Alina and Anton Solace loved their little girl, she had the brightest green eyes and brown hair, they named her Bree, meaning Noble or power in Latin. They loved her with all their hearts, but that soon ended when one day, Bree was having a nap, he mother walked into the room to wake the peaceful child but instead found chaos. Objects hovered in the air, a green glow emitted from her daughter's hair and eyes, casting an ominous glow through the room. Alina screamed in disgust and horror, vowing on that very to never love her daughter again.
This started the pain and torture that was Bree Solace's life. Her parents ignored her, starved her and hit her till she was senseless. She was numb, all alone and forgotten.
Then one day when she was 11, her parents had enough of her, so they sent her out onto the streets, completely abandoning her. Living on the streets was hard at first but she soon learned how to steal, where to find shelter and clean water. One thing she was grateful for was the beautiful sights of Sibiu, the well-preserved medieval architecture, helped her feel at peace on the cold nights.
But Bree still felt alone and unaccepted, there was always the odd few gangs who beat her up, so she eventually learned how to fight and was able to stay clear of trouble. But eventually her luck would run out.
When Bree was 15 she was living in a secluded alleyway, rarely anyone ever went down it, usually only for drug trades or people looking to start a fight. This was one of those times.
A gang of men armed with guns came out of the blue as Bree was entering the alleyway, they corned her and starting attacking her. One guy swung his legs at her as she jumped up and kicked at his neck, landing softly she blocked a punch and twisted another guys arm backwards and swung him over her shoulder, knocking him into another one. Suddenly a shot rang out and pierced the brown haired girls shoulder, a kick hit her gut and a punch was flung at her face as she was pushed back into the wall with a hand meeting her throat in a death grip. Suddenly a red glow replaced the murky green eyes and the light forestry brown waves on her head, a strange vibrant red shot throughout the alley blasting the men away. The light faded out, the brown haired girl nowhere to be seen.
…
Deep into the murky depths of Gotham City, the area known as Crime Alley lay in darkness. Soon a red glow stretched throughout the alleyway, filling the crevices with light. As quickly as it came the light faded into nothingness as a young girl took its place. Waking up with a sharp jolt, Bree felt a sudden shortness of breath and a pain that followed with each tug of her lungs. A dull ache settled in her jaw and gut as she struggled to figure out where she was, slowly she looked around, standing up as she did recognizing the brick walls of an alleyway. However she did not feel as though she had been here before. Ignoring the pain that spread throughout her body, she slowly made her way out into the street, she looked around and a news board across the street caught her eye. Quickly crossing the street she saw the headline 'SCARECROW FREE FROM ARKHAM ASYLUM' There was only one place with an asylum that menacing and that city was Gotham.
"Gotham, that's just my luck" She mutter under her breath.
She supposed it was somewhat of a good thing she was far from Romania, she'd no longer run into her parents, but the bad side was that Gotham would most likely have much worse things in store for her. Her knowledge on Gotham was rusty, the only things she knew was that the city had a group of vigilantes and it was very well known for high crime rates, she'd have todo some research on that but for now she would need to get of the streets, for tonight she'd find a rooftop to stay on. Gotham was dangerous at all times but she thought it wise to look for shelter during the day rather than night. So she headed to the nearest alleyway checking for any signs of a ladder but found none, so she decided to scale the wall instead, it wasn't that hard she'd pretty much grasped the concept of climbing walls in a hurry back when she first started living on the streets, it was hard but it was a useful skill. It took awhile because of her shoulder but she made it.
Pulling herself up onto the roof a light glow shone down from the moon casting an ominous look over the city. As she sat on the ledge she took a moment to admire the sights of Gotham, it wasn't exactly a pretty sight but Bree always found some beauty in things others didn't, that probably has something to do with never being accepted for what she was. 'Stop thinking like that you freak, there's no beauty in you'the voices raged at her.'Why don't you just go kill yourself bitch' they pestered. She had thought about it in the past, had even attempted it in the past but she always woke up in a hospital. And now was the perfect opportunity for her, no witnesses and by the time she was found she'd be long dead.
Suddenly she sensed a presence followed by the light thud of feet, one thing she noticed lately was her hearing seemed to get more and more sensitive she'd have to look into hearing aids, if she lived that is. Slowly craning her s]neck she looked around, trying to find this presence, looking deep into the shadows, she found her presence. Tilting her head down and out of sight, her eyes turned a scarlet red, entering this presence's mind she read thoughts, this pre- man goes by Nightwing aka Richard 'Dick' Grayson. Thinking that was enough she quickly withdrew herself from his mind, sensing he was not a threat she announced "you can come out, I know you're there." She said with a slight rasp as she turned her head back to the murky sky of Gotham City as she felt someone sit alongside her.
"How'd you know I was there kid?" Said a cheery voice, trying to contain a hint of confusion.
"You made a thud when you landed,a-and I'm not a kid." The girl said emotionless as ever. The bird themed superhero seemed confused at that as he could've sworn he landed quietly.
"So, what's your name?" He said to the girl with a stiff posture.
"Nothing important." The girl said seeming on edge. "I'm not gonna jump, you know that right, mystery man?"
"Mystery man?, you don't know who I am?" He said sounding confused.
"Not a clue"
"I'm Nightwing, one of Gotham's protectors." He said sticking his hand out. "Do I get a name now?"
"Bree." She replied as the man put his hand down. "I don't do physical contact, I don't like it, I'm sorry if I seemed rude." She said still speaking lowly and finally turning to face him.
Gasps echoed throughout Nightwing's ear, as she did so, trying to keep his face neutral he asked " Do mind if I ask why you're up here at this time?" The vigilante said, not tearing his eyes away from the hand print bruised into her soft skin.
"Ju-just trying to relax." She said unsure.
"Bree, did someone hurt you?" Nightwing asked with concern evident in his voice.
"No." She replied all too quickly.
"Are you sure?, that bruising looks quite bad." Now even more concerned with how close to the edge the kid was. She looked horrible, dressed in an old dirty crop top, with an old leather jacket, jeans that look 2 sizes too small and oldish looking boots, as well as some rings and a necklace.
"It's fine." She said trying to block out the pain.
A voice came from Nightwing's earpiece urgently announcing "Scarecrows been spotted at an old warehouse house not far from your location Nightwing, can you try to get over there to meet up with Batman?"
"On it." He replied, though he didn't want to leave this kid who clearly needed help.
"Go, I'll be fine, your needed right now.?
He sighed "Ok, I'll see you around kid, and stay out of trouble." He said jumping off the roof and swinging away.
"I'm not a kid." But it was too late he had already left. Finally alone again she refused to listen to her thoughts, she wouldn't do that to Nightwing, not when he seen]med so concerned, so instead she just lay down and watched the night turn into day.
