Why Did I Get Married?

Chapter Three

.i do not own yu-gi-oh!.

Several Hours Later

Everyone gathered round the table after the last of the dishes was placed. Several different conversations were happening as everyone filled their plates with desired portions of each dish before passing them along. Everything was relatively calm, happy even, until Joey happened to catch Tomi chastising Yūgi about her portions.

"You know you're supposed to be losing weight," Tomi grumbled, pulling the platter out of his wife's hands and passing it along. "You're already taking up so much of the bed. I don't need you taking up more of it, for fuck's sake."

"You should be the last one to talk about anyone losing weight, Tomi," Joey cut in angrily, leaning over and snatching the platter from his hands before handing it back to the tri-colour haired female. "Get what you want, Yūg, and don't let this asshole make you feel bad about what you eat."

"I'm just looking out for her health," Tomi stated haughtily, rolling his eyes. "Having that much fat around her heart isn't good for her. Excuse me for showing concern for my wife."

Poor Yūgi flushed a bright shade of scarlet, before passing the dish along again – deciding in the end not to get more like she'd originally intended. She was so embarrassed, her burning eyes focused on her plate in front of her, that she missed the death glare Yami sent Tomi's way and the subtle way he shifted as if he was about to stand. Her husband, however, was not so lucky to miss the scathing look or the movement that accompanied it. He swallowed thickly – and prayed to whatever Gods were listening that he could escape before the Sennen man got his hands on him again. His jaw still hurt from the hits he'd taken earlier that evening, when they'd first arrived.

"Looking out for her health," Joey asked with a bitter laugh, irking a brow. "Or just being a dick? Because to me, it seems like the latter."

"It's okay, Joey," Yūgi tried to placate, laying a hand on her best friend's. "Really, it's fine. Just let it go, please. I don't want anyone to fight. Especially over me."

Joey opened her mouth to say something else before her husband placed a hand over her other one. He spoke a moment later when she looked up at him, shaking his head. "Let it go, Joey. It's not the time or place. We came here to relax. Let's just finish dinner."

Pursing her lips, the dirty blonde shot a scathing look at Tomi before she jerked her hands away and commenced eating. She would let it go, for now. But if he opened his mouth and said anything else that disrespectful to her best friend, all bets were off. She would tear him a new one. And no one would be able to stop her.

Yūgi, having now lost her appetite because of the altercation, stood and grabbed her plate to discard it, "Excuse me. I'm not feeling well."

Everyone waited until she left the room before all heads turned towards Tomi, heated glares boring into him. If looks could kill, Tomi would be dead a hundred times over and he knew it.

"You really just don't learn, do you," Marik asked, shaking his head.

"Obviously not," Malik answered before she leaned forward so that she was practically nose to nose with him. "If you ever speak to or about her that way again, I promise, I will hang you by your dick off the edge of the roof. You have no right to disrespect any woman, let alone your wife, like that. Have you lost your mind?"

"Mind your own business, Malik," Tomi spat, before shrinking back when Marik cast a death glare in his direction. He might be able to get away with talking to his own wife out the side of his neck (when no one was around at least), but he absolutely wouldn't be able to do that with any of her friends. Their husbands would sooner stomp him into the ground before letting him disrespect them.

"My friend is my business, and I will not sit here and listen to you degrade her every chance you get like it's a fucking game," Malik hissed menacingly. "You will respect that woman, or so help me Kami, I will cause extreme bodily harm."

"You have to get to him first," Joey spoke up, fork tapping the porcelain plate in front of her lightly. "Because I promise you if I even think you're talking to her that reckless again, I will knock your teeth down your throat. Happily."

"Be kind to your wife, Tomi," Ishizu commented softly. "You never know what could happen. Yūgi is a good woman. Instead of berating her and embarrassing her every chance you get, maybe help her? You could benefit from some weight loss too. Since you're so worried about her health, you should probably take your own into consideration as well."

Yami nearly choked on a laugh as he began to stand, taking his plate with him before leaving the dining room to dispose of it. After discarding the remnants and rinsing his plate, he left in search of Yūgi to make sure that she was okay. It didn't take long to find her, he saw her shadow being cast out in the backyard, near the fire pit. Deciding to join her, he dawned his coat, and noticing she'd left her own, he grabbed that too and walked out into the snow. She didn't notice he was there, he could tell, by the way she jumped when he placed her coat over her shoulders.

"You'll freeze to death out here without your coat," Yami commented lightly, moving to help her when she adjusted to push her arms through the coat sleeves. "Are you okay?"

Yūgi sighed, arms wrapping around her middle and she attempted to hide her chin in the collar of her coat. "I'll be okay. I just… I just don't like seeing everyone fighting. Tomi does say some pretty hurtful things, but he's not always like this. And while I appreciate everyone coming to my defense, really I do, I don't like the confrontation. I want everyone to get along. We don't always get to see one another. I just want this weekend to be relaxing and everyone to enjoy themselves. We all deserve a little break from life. And fighting amongst ourselves is not…"

Yūgi was cut off by sudden loud yelling coming from inside the house. Both she and Yami spun around and headed for the door, wanting to investigate to see what was happening. The second they stepped inside and made it into the main living area of the cabin-mansion, they were met with the sight of Seto and Atem holding both Joey and Mana back while Tomi shielded a newcomer. Yūgi blinked, brow furrowing.

"Ajia, what are you doing here?" Yūgi asked as she stepped toward her husband and assistant.

"Hi Yūgi," Ajia smiled, though it didn't quite meet her eyes. She was still keeping a wary eye on Mana and Joey, who were still trying desperately to break free of their husbands holds. "Tomi invited me. He said that there was an extra bedroom and thought that maybe I would enjoy some time off since you would be gone until Tuesday. So, here I am."

"Excuse me," Joey hissed, gaining everyone's attention. "But does anyone want to fill us in on exactly who this bitch is and why your husband would invite her to a friendship retreat when we don't know her?"

"I'm quite fond of finding out those details as well before I maim a bitch," Mana chimed in.

Ajia gulped, Yūgi sighed, and everyone else raised an expectant brow (except Tomi, of course).

"This is Ajia Watanabe," Yūgi introduced her. "She's my assistant at the museum."

"Okay," Malik said, arms folded over her chest, "That explains who she is. Now on to the next part. Why the fuck did you think it was a good idea to invite her here, Tomi? This is a friends only retreat… and last I checked, she's not our friend. We don't even know her."

"It's as she said," Tomi replied nonchalantly. "Because Yūgi will be gone until Tuesday, I figured why not invite her up so that she can relax as well? She works just as hard as Yūgi does, maybe even harder, so she deserves some leisure also."

"Oh no the fuck he didn't," Joey growled.

"Maiming is really starting to look great, jail time be damned," Mana murmured.

"Watch your mouth, Tomi, no one works as hard as Yūgi," Malik grunted before turning to grab Mana and Joey's hands and pulling them away. "She can stay, but she better come up with some money for this trip. This isn't a free vacation on us."

"Of course," Ajia said nodding, "I'll be happy to pitch in."

"It's the least you can do, since you're crashing our friend-cation," Mana called over her shoulder before she, Malik and Joey disappeared through the door that connected to the kitchen.

Tomi turned to Marik, Seto and Atem, "You three need to get your wives under control."

"You need to mind how you talk to me, unless you want a part two of this afternoon," Atem said calmly, before he too turned and walked away followed by Seto and Malik. "I'm not as gentle as my brother."

Tomi rubbed his jaw at the thought. Yeah, he'd rather avoid getting hit by Atem if what Yami did would be considered "gentle". He liked his face the way that it was, thank you very much.

Yūgi looked at Yami, brow furrowed, "What exactly did Atem mean by a part two?"

"I would like to know as well," Ryo chimed in, irking a brow.

"Do enlighten us," Ishizu demanded, fists planted on her hips.

"Nothing to worry your pretty little heads about," Mahad said kissing his wife's forehead before gently ushering her back to the dining room. He beckoned everyone else follow as well, "Everything is just fine. Now, let's finish dinner and relax before bed."

Eyes narrowed, the women followed Mahad and Ishizu back into the dining room, with Yami and Bakura at their sides, Tomi and Ajia bringing up the rear.

The Next Day

Yami yawned as he walked into the kitchen the next morning, his left hand scratching his left side –the right rubbing the sleep from his eyes.

"We thought we were going to have to send someone to wake you up," his brother quipped with a laugh. "I declined to volunteer as tribute. I'm not getting punched for waking you up."

There was laughter from the others accompanying the yawn Yami let out. Blinking to clear his blurry vision, he nodded his head. "Yeah, the worst possible thing you could do is wake me up before I'm ready."

"I know that all too well," Bakura muttered, shifting his lower jaw. "My jaw still locks from time to time since that hit you dealt me in college. I refuse to go through that again."

"At least you didn't have to grow up with him," Atem chimed in, bringing about another round of laughter from their group of friends as Yami took the last open space at the table, which happened to be between Aija and Yūgi.

He couldn't help but notice that Tomi happened to be sitting at Aija's side, instead of his wife's. Irking a brow, he looked at the other man before he spoke. "Tomi, would you like to trade seats? You know, so you can sit beside your wife?"

"Nope, I'm good right here," Tomi said offhandedly, reaching to pick up his orange juice. "I'd rather not be squished while I was trying to eat, thank you very–"

He was abruptly cut off by the cup colliding with his face, making him sputter and choke. Yami had reached around Aija and forced the cup to splash in the other man's face so quickly, he didn't have time to react and brace for it. Joey burst out laughing, wiping tears from her eyes.

"We told you to watch how you talk about her," Atem said chuckling. "You know how my brother is about Yūgi, she was his best friend. And if you thought that you were going to get away with talking about any woman, let alone her, like that in front of him, you clearly have forgotten who he is."

"Apologise to your wife," Yami demanded, folding his arms over his chest as he leaned back to glare at the other male. "That was rude, and completely uncalled for."

This was definitely going to be… a long week if they kept having altercations like this.
