CHAPTER 4

They drove the (very cramped) car to an abandoned railway leading into City 17. Dog ran alongside them as Alyx gunned the motor and sped down the track. When they arrived in City 17, Alyx told Dog to stay behind and guard the vehicle. Gordon suggested that they check Kleiner's secret lab first, and so that was where they went. The main entrance was collapsed, but Gordon managed to squeeze through the window. He landed painfully on his rear.

"Minor fractures detected," his suit chirped. He activated his flashlight and shrieked. He had seen a zombine not two inches from his face. Luckily for Gordon, it was dead.

"Oo, what's this?" he heard Chell ask.

"Um, Chell, that's a grenade," Alyx warned.

"Cool!" Gordon heard Chell pull the pin and hurl the grenade against the wall.

"Chell!" Alyx screamed. There was a huge explosion that blew a large hole in the wall, throwing Gordon across the room into some equipment.

"Major fractures detected. Blood loss detected. Morphine administered. Seek medical attention."

"Ow." Gordon moaned. Chell and Alyx dropped down into the room. Gordon hauled himself to his feet and limped over towards the teleport room.

"What the…" There was a bus. This was especially strange because Gordon had never seen a bus in City 17 before. The bus stuck through the wall at an odd angle. One end rested on the teleport pad. They heard a noise. "Is that… the hamster dance?" Alyx commented.

"I think so," Chell replied. They climbed into the bus. Kleiner and Lamarr were in the front seats. Kleiner was singing the hamster dance song to Lamarr, who was dancing.

"What are you doing?" Gordon asked the doctor.

"Gordon Freeman!" Kleiner cried. "I knew it!"

"What are you doing?" Gordon repeated.

"Singing to Lamarr. She likes it."

"You are a strange person," Chell remarked.

They decided to pull the bus out of the rubble and drive it back. Everyone, including Dog pulled except Gordon ("Warning: do not attempt heavy physical exertion"), and Lamarr, who was too small. As they drove back in the bus (minus Alyx, who was driving the car), Gordon and Kleiner got in a fight over what music to play on the stereo. When they arrived, GLaDOS, who was driving, reached back and smashed the stereo. "We're here," she growled. The two men, not wanting to anger the malevolent AI further, stopped fighting and got out, followed by everyone else.
