The next day after breakfast Harry popped a luscious lozenge which made him grow a full, well groomed beard. He finished unpacking for his room, the guest room, the game room, and his art room. It was around noon when they decided to leave and check out the town. Harry drove them to Forks Café for lunch. It was a dingy little thing, nothing bright or new about it, but there were plenty of people at the tables, and it looked lively enough at least.
When they entered the door, every eye not so subtly flickered to them, and not so quite gossip began to spread. Everyone was whispering wondering who these two young men could possibly be, and why where they here in Forks? They sat at a slightly worn, but clean, small yellow table by the window while the bubbly waitress finished bringing food to an elderly couple at the table across from them.
She turned with an eager light in her eye and a set of menus taken from her apron. As she set them down she looked them both up and down while she said "Welcome to Forks Café! Can I get y'all started with anything to drink? Coffee? Coke?" She took a small pad and pen out from her apron then and grinned at them with a little too much enthusiasm for either man to be comfortable.
"Tea for me if you have it," Harry stated gruffly, used to the attention from his years in school, but uncomfortable with it all the same. "How about you Ted?"
"Tea for me too, please." Teddy said, then continued softly with a grimace, "Dad, why is everyone staring at us like this? Is there something on my face?" That made everyone whisper even more excitedly but at least they were keen enough to tear their greedy eyes away for a little while.
"Dad!?" the waitress gasped, "But you're much too young to be this young man's father! You look like you could be brothers!"
"Yes," Harry cut in before she could say more, "but that is not your business is it? We came here for lunch not an interrogation, and if you can't refrain then we will go elsewhere." His calm glance at the waitress's pink cheeks told him all he needed to know. "Now if you could go get our tea while we decide what we want to eat that would be lovely, thanks."
"Of course, Of course!" The waitress stammered and scurried off to grab their tea. Harry sighed and scrubbed his face with his hands, his face looked tired, and Teddy squirmed in his seat.
"This is just a small town Kiddo," made a face at the "kiddo", "We're not in New York anymore, everybody knows everybody here so when they see someone new it's a bit of a shock I guess. It should wear off soon." Harry's grimace of distaste mirrored in Teddys face.
"Uuuuugh, I knew I was gonna hate it here! Why didn't we go to LA? Or Portland at least? Why this little bumfuck town in the middle of nowhere? This is gonna suck!" He sulked into his seat, arms crossed, but luckily his hair stayed electric blue, he had better control than to let that slip in front of muggles by now.
"Teddy! Language!" Harry admonished him, "It will take a little adjusting, but we will be okay. It will just take a little while for them to get used to having us around. When you go to school, that should happen pretty quick. Don't worry too much okay? And if in a few months, you still can't stand it, we'll move okay? I don't want to be somewhere you hate."
Teddy looked at him with hopeful eyes as the waitress came back with their tea, took their orders, and made herself scarce except to ask if they needed anything when she refilled their tea. As they were leaving they ran into a police officer and a kid about Teddys age, who were coming into the café.
"Oh!" blurted the officer, "what do we have here? Are you all passing though?"
"No officer, my son and I just moved to town so we are checking out the sites and decided to stop here for lunch."
"Your son you said?" the officers eyes widened with disbelief before he coughed into his elbow and shuffled his feet a bit and stook out his hand, "Oh my, where are my manners, My name is Charlie Swan, and this is my daughter Isabella Swan! She just moved to town too! She'll be entering her Junior year at Forks High, will you're son be going there too?"
"I'm Harison Black, and this is my son Edward Lupin, but he goes by Teddy. And Yes he'll be a senior at Forks High starting Monday." Harry shook his hand and glanced at Isabella who was sulking behind her dad's back and thought he and Charlie might have something in common. He gave Charlie a warm smile and looked back at Teddy, who looked about as moody as the girl did and shook his head in mild exasperation. "Aren't you going to say anything to your new classmate Ted?"
Teddy glanced at her gave a little wave and said hello before looking away.
Isabella looked at him with big brown eyes and crossed her arms with a stubborn lilt to her jaw. "My names Bella, I don't know why my dad keeps introducing me by Isabella but I hate it."
That got a slight grin from Teddy, "Yeah, I can understand that, I hate the name Edward! I have always been Teddy."
"Well Mr. Swan, It's been nice chatting with you, but I don't want to keep you from your lunch, and we have several more errands we need to run today. It was nice to meet you," Harry maneuvered out of their way, slowly meandering towards his car.
"Call me Charlie! It was nice to meet you too! I'll see you around town and if you need anything don't hesitate to call the line, we're not ever very busy around here!" Charlie laughed and guided his daughter into the café, her brown eyes locked on Teddy and Harry until they got in their car and drove away.
As they drove around town picking up more groceries, a few personal products, and generally just acquainted themselves with the town and the town with them, they discussed their lives and how things were going to proceed. Teddys car wouldn't arrive for another week, so he would take Harrys car to school. Harry wouldn't start really getting into his work until Teddy was out of the house, so they really didn't have too much to talk about, but it was enough to feed the rumor mill of Forks and by that night everyone in town knew about the mysterious men who moved to town, and that the chiefs daughter was also here to stay.
