The morning light seeped through the curtains as Chloe and Zach sat quietly in the living room, sipping their coffee. It had been two months since the chaos ended, since they finally rid the house of its haunting and the horrors of Mark and Lisa's twisted legacy. Their lives had slowly pieced themselves back together, and the once-ominous house now felt like a home—warm, lived-in, and full of hope.

Chloe glanced at the kitchen, where Emily was humming to herself, coloring at the table. The little girl had been through so much, yet her resilience amazed them both. Adopting her was the best decision Chloe and Zach had ever made, and now she was a part of their small, unconventional family.

"I still can't believe how far we've come," Chloe said softly, breaking the silence. She rested her mug on her lap, her eyes distant. "Sometimes it feels like it all happened yesterday."

Zach leaned back on the couch, his jaw tightening. "Yeah… it's hard to forget. I still hear the screams in my dreams sometimes. And that damn diary… I can't even look at it without feeling sick."

Chloe nodded. "We've been through hell and back, Zach. But look at us now. We're here. We've survived."

Zach gave her a faint smile. "Yeah, and now we've got Emily. She's the best thing to come out of all this. I don't know if I would've made it without her… or you."

Chloe chuckled, trying to lighten the mood. "Well, you're stuck with me. Best friends for life, remember?"

"Forever," Zach said, his smile growing warmer. "You know, I was so scared when we moved here. I thought leaving Liberty High, leaving all the memories behind, was a mistake. But now… I think this was exactly what we needed."

Chloe's eyes glistened as she looked at him. "Me too. I mean, I miss everyone, but… this was the fresh start we both needed. After everything with Bryce, Hannah, and everything that happened at Liberty High… we were drowning there."

Zach nodded solemnly. "Moving here gave us a chance to breathe again. To find ourselves."

"And to help Emily find a home," Chloe added, glancing toward the kitchen. Emily looked up and waved at them with a bright smile, her little fingers clutching a crayon. Chloe waved back, her heart swelling. "She's so brave, Zach. After everything she went through with her parents… she deserves this."

Zach set his mug down and leaned forward, his elbows on his knees. "Do you ever think about what would've happened if we hadn't found her that night? If we hadn't stopped Mark and Lisa?"

Chloe's expression darkened. "I try not to. It's too painful to think about. But we did find her. And we stopped them. That's what matters."

Zach sighed deeply. "I know. I just… I hate that she has to grow up knowing what her parents were. That they were monsters."

"She won't have to," Chloe said firmly. "We'll make sure of it. Emily has a new life now. A good life. And we're going to give her everything she deserves."

The sound of Emily's laughter brought them back to the present. She was giggling at something in her coloring book, a small light in the aftermath of so much darkness. Chloe reached over and squeezed Zach's hand.

"Hey," she said, her voice soft. "We're going to be okay. All of us."

Zach looked at her, his eyes filled with gratitude. "Yeah. We will."

Later that evening, the house was filled with the savory aroma of Cuban food—ropa vieja, black beans, and fried plantains. Chloe and Zach had spent the afternoon cooking together, their movements easy and natural, like they had done this a hundred times before. Emily helped set the table, carefully placing forks and napkins next to each plate.

As they sat down to eat, the conversation was light and cheerful. Emily talked excitedly about her drawings, showing Chloe and Zach a picture of their little family, complete with their dog Max, who had come into their lives not long after Emily.

Chloe smiled as she looked at the drawing. "You're getting really good at this, Emily. I think we might have an artist in the family."

Emily beamed. "Thanks, Chloe! Maybe one day I can paint something big for the living room."

Zach chuckled. "I'd like that. Maybe we can hang it over the fireplace."

As the meal went on, the laughter and warmth filled the room, driving away the lingering shadows of the past. For the first time in a long time, they felt whole.

After dinner, as Emily drifted off to sleep in her new room, Chloe and Zach sat together on the porch, looking out at the quiet street. The stars were bright above them, a peaceful reminder of the life they had now.

Chloe broke the silence. "Do you think we'll ever forget it? Everything that happened?"

Zach shook his head. "No. But maybe that's not such a bad thing. It's part of our story now. It brought us here. It gave us Emily."

Chloe smiled, resting her head on his shoulder. "Yeah. And we're stronger because of it."

As the night deepened, they sat in comfortable silence, the ghosts of their past no longer haunting them but guiding them toward a brighter future. Together, as a family, they were ready to face whatever came next.
