Authors Note: I realize that a CaitxJinx pairing maybe very controverial for obvious reasons, however the purpose of this is to do a sort of character study of Cait and Jinx as foils. Also, i obvously dont own Arcane or ay of the IP of Leaugeof Legends. Cheers!--
Chapter 1-Coyote
Caitlin sighed and plopped down on a stool in front of a street food vendor. She suspected she made it all the way to the lanes but wasnt quite sure. She was so exhausted she didnt have the energy to be completely sure where she was. Her investigation into the terrorist attacks in the upper city was going nowhere. No one would talk to her, or worse, would tell her nonsense so she would wonder in circles. She looked up and read the sign, "Jerrico's" she was starving, and it probably wasn't the best idea to eat food from the under city, but at this point in her day she didn't care if she got food poison and died later, she just needed something in her stomach.
"Ahhhh hahaha, officer... Kirammin, right? You look like shit." The large fish man behind the counter said. Cait assumed this must be the 'Jerrico' in Jerrico's.
"It's been a long day." Cait huffs out and slides her notebook with all her evidence onto the counter. It's open to the page with a picture of the monkey graffiti she found at a crime scene. "No one will talk to me. I just want to know if anyone knows who's tag this is."
"Could I offer a piece of advice?" The gilled man offered with a flick of his hand towel.
"I suppose it won't hurt... "
"Well, simply put, you look like a cop." He says, nodding to her badge.
She looks down at it too, "Ah, bloody hell... that does make sense now that I think on it. Wait, why are you helping me when no one else will?"
Jerrico places a bowl of seafood in front of her, its smothered in some type of sauce, and says, "You aren't like the other enforcers, Kirammin. I've seen you deal with the under city before. You're fair, you listen. It's a rare thing down here." He slids her a napkin and winks at her. She picks it up and sees an address on it. She looks up at Jerrico in suprise.
"Don't worry about paying, it's on the house today, as thanks for what you've done for us down here." He said. She smiles, pockets the napkin and her book. She quickly eats the meal before leaving.
On her way to the address Jerrico gave her, Cait stops by a clothing store so she could blend in better. She shoves her officer uniform and badge into a bag and hides it down a drain pipe, praying it will be there when she comes back for it.
She flips up the hood on her new jacket and makes her way to the worst part of Zaun. Or so she is told. Apparently, it's been over run with homeless drug addicts.
It's a rough climb down to the tent city in the crevice, the sump is what many call it. Cait makes it with few scrapes. As she walks along the tent line, homeless people hold out their hands. Some of them with cupped hands obviously wanting coin, others aimlessly stretch up at her as if asking to be pulled up and out of the dark pit they've dug themselves into. Cait is disturbed but feels empathy for them. She didn't know shimmer had gotten this bad. She hasn't been to the under city much since becoming an enforcer due to her mother's requests that she receive less dangerous jobs, but even her mother couldn't keep her completely out of undercity business.
As she walks up a hill, her destination becomes clear. A house, one of the only ones down here, appears in front of her. It looks very old and as if it's entirely made of random pieces of wood salvaged from a trash pile, and maybe it was, Cait muses.
The most distinguishing characteristic of the house, however, is unmistakable. A large, bright pink monkey face is graffitied across the front of it.
Caitlyn slowly opened the door, clearing the room with her gun held up to make sure no one was inside.
Once she gets a moment to take in her surroundings, she is stunned at what she sees. The walls and pillars are covered in graffiti. This time, it isn't pink monkey faces but multiple scenes of two girls playing games, dancing, and having fun. One of the girls has red hair and looks older than the other one, who has blue hair.
Was this terrorist one of these girls? Or one of their parents looking for revenge? Caitlyn looked around more, and as she went, the girls in the drawings went from playing games to fighting more and more aggressively in the drawings until Cait found herself in what appeared to be a bedroom with bunk beds. There was only one drawing above the dresser. The two girls, but this time the red head had a big red X over her face, and the blue girl had angry blue streaks down her face.
Caitlyn felt a chill up her neck but resolved to keep going. She made it this far on her own, and she wouldnt stop now. She approached the dresser and opened up the top drawer. Inside was a single notebook. It looked like it had been there for a long time. A thick layer of dust covered it. Cait picked the book up and dusted it off. She flipped through it and noticed it was full of journal entries by someone signing every entry with just an x. She was about to start reading it when she heard footsteps. She quickly pocketed the journal and hid under the bunk beds.
Boots clunked around noisily on the wood flooring, and then there was a big plop noise from above her.
"Great!" Caitlyn thought, "Just what I need, to be stuck here while some drug addicts take a nap!"
She hears a sigh, then a girls voice. "I know. But we needed to have the hex gem stone thingy to have a chance!" She hears the girl slap the bed, "shut it! No, he won't! He was impressed! I didn't even screw it up this time."
Cait was confused. Who was this girl even talking to? She was sure no one else came in with her, and she could not hear any of the replies this girl seemed to be responding to. Did she have some type of ear peice? Unlikely as that was expensive tech for some random street kid from the undercity. The girl shifted in the bed above her, and a blue braid fell off the bed onto the floor near Cait's head.
"Shit." Caitlyn thought. " This is probably the blue haired girl in the drawings. I guess that crosses revenge filled parents off the list of suspects."
"Well, he did get angry, but this babby blue changed his mind!" the girl continues to, presumably, talk to herself. "He even wants me to make him cool stuff!"
The blue haired girl then sits up on the bed with her legs dangling. Her boots hit the wood with a smack, and she skips out of the room. Moments later, the front door slams shut. Leaving Caitlyn alone once again.
She had to get the hell out of there before this girl came back.
When Cait returned to the upper city she went home despratly needing a shower and rest. She throws the bag with her enforcer uniform onto her bed and takes a shower. When she gets out she notices an envelpe on the floor next to her bed. Odd, did it fall out of her bag?
She picks it up. The front simply says 'Cait'. Her throat goes dry. Did someone break in while she was in the shower? She cautiously opens the envelope. In clear bold handwriting it simply says, 'Save her.'
