Chapter 65
Monday July 8th2013, Special Victim's Unit, 16thPrecinct, Manhattan
"Hey Cap, the dragon lady is ready to be escorted to her new home," Fin declared from her doorway.
Olivia smirked, she knew her squad was looking forward to the bad press heading their suspect's way.
She nodded from her desk, "You know the drill."
She watched longingly as Fin left, even though she had been the Captain of SVU for more than half a year, she still missed being on the streets at times.
Olivia stood and moving the blinds she looked out her back window. Sure enough there were her officers walking their latest perps out to the cruisers. A large crowd had gathered, taking photographs as they moved.
Olivia turned her attention back to the files on her desk when a loud bang cracked through the silence in her room.
She froze. She knew that sound. There was no mistaking the sound of a gun shot, ringing in her ears.

Chapter 66
Monday July 8th2013, Hospital Trauma Centre, Manhattan
"Talk to me Fin!" Olivia demanded as she pushed her way through the hospital door, leading from the main emergency room, to the trauma centre.
"Shooter's in the wind but-"
"I meant Rollins! How is Amanda?!" Olivia had travelled to the hospital after she had secured the scene. It was a horrible way for Jet to start her career with SVU, but Olivia had left Munch, and Amaro, in charge at the 16th, until she got back. She was in good hands with Nick, and her Uncle.
Olivia checked her blackberry, she had sent another message that went unread on her way there.
O: I understand you're busy but you need to call me as soon as you see this. There's been an incident at the precinct.
She hated to do it but she knew that would get his attention. She didn't care about what transpired over the weekend, all she cared about was Amanda, and unfortunately the intel she accidentally gathered that weekend, was about to play a key part.
"Cap, this is Dr. Bell, Amanda's doc-"
"How is she?" Olivia tucked her phone back into her pocket, and gave the middle aged woman her full attention.
The olive skinned woman eyed Olivia for a moment before answering, "Your Detective got lucky, very lucky, looks like a through and through, in her shoulder, but she's lost a lot of blood. We suspect she banged her head, she hasn't woken up yet."
"She has you listed as her emergency contact, you and a… Mister Dominick Carisi? We can try to contact him too or?" Dr. Bell explained.
"I've already tried contacting him on my way here, I'll let you know as soon as I hear anything," Olivia stated, hoping that her old Detective would respond to her so that she could be the one to break the news to him.
"That's fine, I suspect Detective Rollins might have a moderate concussion. Does she have any other pre-existing diseases or conditions?"
Olivia bit her lower lip and stared at Fin, she thanked her lucky stars when his phone suddenly rang.
"It's Munch I should take this…" Fin explained walking away from the two women.
Olivia waited until he was out of earshot before grasping the doctor's forearm.
"She's pregnant," she whispered to the doctor.
Bell's eyebrows flew up her forehead.
"How far along?"
Olivia shook her head, "Honestly? I'm not sure, I just found out on Friday, she hasn't even told the father. I don't think she's too far along, she isn't showing yet."
The Doctor snorted, "That doesn't mean a damn thing. She could be 8 weeks or 8 months. Some women ever put on weight or show. My sister barely put on 20 pounds for both her pregnancies, even at 9 months, she just looked like she'd had a buffet for dinner."
As the Doctor was talking they were walking towards the Detective's room.
"It does complicate her injury and treatment, thank you for notifying me," the woman said as she took a deep breath.
Dr. Bell entered the trauma bay and took control of the room, she didn't need to shout out orders, the nurses and technicians around her seemed to really respect what she had to say.
Olivia stood at the threshold, shocked to see the blonde looking so tiny on the stretcher.
"Liv, Olivia, Liv?"
Olivia spun on the spot when she heard the panicked tone. She walked away from her Detective, back into the chaotic waiting area.
"Carisi?!" she called, recognizing his voice.
It took her a minute to spot the man that she had been trying to get a hold of all weekend, since the infamous celebration party.
Carisi appeared through a small crowd of people, "Liv, wha-what happened? All I heard was someone was shot at the 16th. I've been calling Amanda but she's not answering. Where is she? Tell me it wasn't her Liv, please God tell me she's okay…"
Sonny grasped both her arms, Olivia could tell he was spiralling.
"Carisi, listen to me," Olivia grabbed him by his shoulders. "Amanda is in that room over there, behind me. She took a bullet through the shoulder, and banged her head on the way down. Doctor said she was lucky, her shoulder will be fine. She lost some blood, and she has a concussion but-"
Olivia didn't get the chance to finish as Carisi sprinted past her towards the trauma bay she had pointed to.
She turned back to the room too, and tried her best to keep the young lawyer out of the way.
Carisi was demanding information as the doctor and nurses worked on the Detective.
"Amanda!" Carisi exclaimed, he seemed to be in shock, and she could hardly blame him.
Olivia held him back, "Let them work."
"Rollins!" Sonny practically sobbed.
"Shhhhh, it's-" Olivia began to say but was cut off by the Doctor.
"No, keep talking, she's coming around," Dr. Bell stated as the blonde began squirming on the stretcher.
A nurse raised her arm, and beckoned Carisi to come closer to her.
Olivia stood back as she watched the scene unfold before her. It felt like a miracle, and something out of a movie as Rollins responded to the sound of her boyfriend's voice.
She barely heard the Doctor and nurses as she was focused on the couple instead.
A loud cough caused everyone in the room to pay attention to the older woman in the white jacket.
"Amanda I'm Dr. Bell, I've been responsible for you since you came in, and as delighted as I am to see you awake and aware, I have some important questions, and tests we have to perform," Dr. Bell pointed at Carisi, "And I'm going to need a few minutes with you outside of this room while I examine her, anyone who's not medical staff, please give us some space."
Olivia pushed off the wall, and bowed her head as she saw Sonny kiss Amanda.
She took a deep breath outside of the room, as Carisi exited the trauma bay shortly after her.
Sonny leaned over, and Olivia rubbed her hand up and down his back. Feeling his body trembling beneath her finger tips.
"She's okay, Carisi. Amanda's strong, she'll be okay," Olivia spoke softly as she tried to comfort him.
"I know, I mean thanks Liv," Carisi replied as he stood up straight.
"Hey," he began, "I'' sorry I've been MIA since the party, they called me in early on Sunday, I haven't even been home since then, but anyways I wasn't ignoring your messages on purpose I swear."
Olivia had no intention of bringing up the party in the middle of a busy Manhattan emergency room, but it seemed like they had a few minutes to spare, and she had been trying to get in touch with him since his celebratory get together.
"Carisi, I don't know what happened that afternoon, what you think you know, or what you might have seen…"
"Liv I didn't mean to, but when I was in your bathroom I noticed-"
"There you guys are! The waiting room is a circus, and heads up Liv, Dodds incoming," Fin informed them.
Olivia tried to switch back into her professional mode, "Chief," she nodded when Dodds came into view.
"What do we know?" Dodds wasn't one to mince words, he got straight to the point.
"Detective Rollins is awake, she's currently being examined, bullet through and through the shoulder, she'll need some physiotherapy but she should be fine-"
"I meant the shooter, talk to me," Doods rubbed the back of his neck, he seemed exasperated even though he had only just arrived.
"Not a lot yet, Fin," Liv called her number two over, knowing he had been on the phone since the moment Amanda had been rolled into the trauma bay.
"Cap, Chief," Fin nodded. "Just got off the phone with CSU, they pulled a full metal jacket out of the concrete, but it was pancaked, they're not gonna get a lot from it in the lab."
"Do we think it was personal?" Dodds inquired. "The bust, it was Detective Rollins' case, are you sure you got everyone? What about threats?"
"We've got people looking down every avenue Chief, but now a days with text, and email, it's hard to keep track of threats-"
"Let's call computer crimes, get Dana Lewis on it, one less thing for SVU to handle, Olivia-"
"Don't even suggest it Chief, this is our case, Rollins is one of us, if an SVU detective isn't a special vict-"
Fin's eyes were bouncing back and forth between the pair as they kept cutting the other off.
Dodds held up his hand, "All I was going to say was, I know how involved you personally want to be with this case, just try not to strain yourself too much, I heard you had a bit of a moment this weekend."
Olivia shook her head, "It was nothing Chief, just a combination of heat, and not eating all day."
Olivia couldn't help glancing at Carisi out of the corner of her eye, she saw him shifting awkwardly, and knew that the young lawyer would not be able to keep her secret for very long.
"If you say so Captain," Dodds looked around at the other two men still standing beside the Captain, "Catch this guy," he stated firmly.
"Well at least he didn't pull us off this case…" Fin began, but they all heard another voice above all the others chatting around them.
"Liv! Liv!"
All three heads turned to the new voice calling the Captain's name.
"El?" she was surprised to see him there, although by now there were easily over 30 officers from all over Manhattan filling the waiting area outside the trauma section of the emergency room.
Elliot stopped a foot away, but she could tell that he wanted to embrace her.
"We heard the gunshot from our unit, but we weren't sure which hospital they took the victim to, we didn't even know who had been shot, rumours were swirling, sorry Carisi…" Elliot trailed off quietly.
Carisi simply nodded, his gaze was fixated on the curtain separating them from his girlfriend.
"Shit, gotta take this too," Fin said when his blackberry rang again. He clapped Carisi on the shoulder as he went further down a hallway, probably in search of a quieter spot.
"What are you doing here?"
"Uh Dana, I mean Lieutenant Lewis, well I think she knew I'd be worried, so she told me to come down and offer any assistance from computer crimes," Elliot supplied.
Olivia gave him a small tight lipped smile, and patted his upper arm.
"Ahemmmmmm," Carisi cleared his throat. Olivia had practically forgot about the lawyer.
"Oh um-"
She watched him glance around quickly.
"I'm not gonna say anything, to anyone, and that includes the woman in that room. The secret of whomever the father of your baby is, is not mine to tell, to anyone, no matter how I accidentally found out-"
"Mister Carisi? Is there a Mister Sonny Carisi out here?" the older female Doctor was asking the room at large.
Carisi raised his hand.
The Doctor walked over to the trio.
"Hi I'm Dr. Bell, I'm the trauma doctor who has been working on Amanda. She's stable now, and is asking for a few minutes alone with you," the older doctor gave Olivia a meaningful look. Olivia understood that Rollins was most likely about to tell Carisi that he too was going to be a Father sooner than he probably expected.
"Hey," Elliot whispered. "You okay? You feel better now?"
Olivia had been blowing up his phone all weekend, after she had told him what transpired at the party. Which only occurred after he had got her back to her apartment, with the help of Fin, she seemed to bounce back with some food, fluids, and rest. Just to be sure they went to the Urgent Care centre closest to her apartment on Sunday. Everything checked out, they concluded the same thing, and she needed to pay closer attention to how much she was eating and drinking.
Olivia tried to discreetly rub a couple of his fingers with hers.
"We're okay," she answered him.
"When I heard that shot Liv…" Elliot looked just like Carisi had when he ran into the hospital.
Olivia glanced around and spotting a room she slowly inched her way towards it. Elliot caught on to his girlfriend's movements and whipped out his cell phone, pretending to make a call. He too snuck inside the unlocked door.
It was dark inside the room, but it was clearly for patients, the 2 beds were the obvious giveaway, but Elliot didn't care about where they were, only that they were alone.
"Christ Olivia!"
"I know, I know," Olivia cooed as she was swept up in his embrace. She felt as if she had just comforted another man out in the waiting room the same way, a boyfriend terrified for his girlfriend, except this time it was her boyfriend, and she could feel him trembling, not just by her hands on his shoulder as she had felt from Carisi, but from Elliot's entire body touching hers from head to toe.
"I'm okay, we're okay," she repeated in a soft voice, her lips inches from his ear. She ran her fingers through his hair with one hand, while her other arm was wrapped around his broad shoulders, holding him as close as she could while rubbing her hand up and down his upper back.
"I knew what you were doing this morning, and for a few minutes," he practically sobbed, just like Carisi had done earlier.
Olivia kissed whichever part of his body that her lips were touching.
She closed her eyes, she could feel his heart pounding against her chest, and it soothed her. She was hoping he could feel hers too. When he continued to shake, she grabbed his hand and placed it over her heart.
She knew the sound and rhythm would sooth him too, and it did.
"Thank you," she heard him whisper.
"I love you Liv," Elliot rasped.
She felt him move around slightly, then next thing she felt his lips on her face. She wasn't sure when she began crying, but sure enough there were tears on her face. She sat down on the nearest bed.
"I love you so damn much," he whispered as he kissed both her closed eyes, then her cheeks, next her nose, and lastly she felt his warm wet lips against her own.
Olivia felt overcome by the moment too, and gladly opened her mouth when she felt Elliot pull on her lower lip.
"Mmmm," she moaned while dropping her hands, and tugging him by his lower back.
Elliot's hands were holding her by the sides of her face, caressing her cheeks.
She didn't know what was wrong with her. One moment she was in anguish over her friend getting shot, the next she was clawing at her boyfriend, trying to get his body as close to hers as humanly possible.
Neither of them were speaking with their words, they both seemed to be talking through their bodies.
Olivia tugged on the back of his shirt, pulling it out of his work pants. She slipped her hands up the back of the shirt, moaning when she felt the warm skin of his back.
Elliot for his part seemed focus on tracing every part of bare skin available to him. He slowly moved his hands from her cheeks, down her neck, and finally when he felt her fingers begin to dip down the back of his work pants, he used his to unbutton her work shirt.
They were both breathing heavily in the dark quiet space, as they tried to keep their lips connected.
"I-I-unghhhh!" Olivia cried when she felt the cool hospital air on her chest, only for a moment before Elliot's lips were descending down her sternum.
Just when she expected him to tug her bra aside, he grasped her breast instead. Her breath hitched, and she knew he'd be able to feel her pebbled nipple through the thin cotton she was wearing that day.
But his hand didn't stop on her breast. Instead it kept moving, up and up, until it came to a stop, right over her pounding heart.
Olivia's eyes sprang open, and she caught a pair of glassy baby blues staring down at her.
"You're okay," he repeated, his voice was gruff and raspy.
"Ye-yes," Olivia stuttered.
"You're both okay," Elliot repeated again as he closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
Olivia only then realized he had his other hand on her stomach, his large hand cradled their growing Baby B.
More tears came to her eyes when he placed his head on her chest, and folded his body in half, keeping both hands on her stomach.
Olivia placed her head on top of his, he clearly needed the skin to skin contact. She could only imagine the fear that ripped through him, when he heard the crack of the gunshot. She herself had fainted when she had heard he had been shot. The fact that he feared for not only her life, but their blossoming baby, it was too much.
Their trance was broken by a commotion outside the door.
Olivia felt Elliot take a deep breath, before he uncurled himself from his position.
"You're both okay," he repeated for the third time.
"Yes, we are my love," Olivia smiled as she stroked his cheek.
"I love you, Olivia Benson," Elliot ducked his head, and gave her a sweet kiss.
Olivia began doing up her shirt, as Elliot tucked his back into his pants, though they continued to share short kisses.
"Thank you for knowing what I needed," Elliot whispered as they stood by the door. He knew the moment they stepped outside of their little sanctuary, that they had to put their work personas back into place. And Detective Stabler, did not have such acute reactions to Captain Benson.
"Ready?" Elliot asked as he squeezed her fingers.
"With you in my life? Always," Olivia held his cheek and sealed her lips against his once more.
She wasn't sure if it was the chaos of the morning, or her hormones, but she noted once again how happy she would be once they disclosed, because she was sincerely struggling not to touch her boyfriend, no matter where they were, in some way, whether it be sexually, or comforting. She wanted it all with Elliot, day and night, seven days a week. They had been dragging their feet searching for an apartment, but she realized she was willing to make some exceptions, if it meant they could live together sooner than later.

A/N: Sorry for the delay. Main chapter note is just that, it was Carisi who hadn't been responding to Olivia in the last few Chapters, people assumed it had been Elliot, that he wasn't too pleased after meeting Dean, and David at that party too.
A/N 2: My life is SO different now. When doctors and nurses warned me that going from being in an isolation room for nearly 3 years, then back into the world, that it'd be like waking up from a coma, they were 1000000000000% right. Physically and mentally. The world has changed so much in a few years, and before that we were all stuck at home in a pandemic. So it's been a drastic change and struggle, I'm slowly starting to try to expose myself to parts of the real world again. So there have been a LOT of distractions, not a lot of time for writing.
Tony didn't get a chance to beta this, so all mistakes are mine, not his lol.
Consider this an early holiday present! 3
