I'm already not the best at controlling my anger, so with the combination of having to play volleyball and Selene; no one should be surprised when I "accidently" hit her in the head with a volleyball. I also guess I shouldn't be surprised that I'm sitting outside the principal's office right now.
Basically, after I finished changing I went to the gym, which is where this whole mess started.
When I entered the gym I heard Coach yell, "Meadows! You're late."
"What? Coach, I'm on time. I walked in before two-twenty-five," I tried to explain but Coach Rosales is a bit of a jerk and marked me tardy anyway.
Coach Rosales told us we were going to play volleyball. So that's what we did, but then I noticed that Selene and most of her friends who were on the other team, I say most because two of them were on my team but that's for later, were glaring at me and whispering to each other. I just knew they were talking about me. You usually don't whisper to your friends and stare at someone if you're not talking about that person, right?
Anyway, I swear her two friends that were on my team kept trying to trip me. When I would run to hit the ball they would run past me and put their foot in the way, and when I stumbled I would hear their snickers as they walked away. Typically, I don't like to solve my problems with violence but I was this close to walking over to them and pulling their stupidly perfect ponytails.
After that I started noticing that the ball was being thrown in my direction a lot, like a lot. I looked to see who it was that was hitting it to me and it was always Selene or one of her friends. Then, I think that my breaking point was when some guy accidentally hit the top of my head with the ball which made Selene and co. burst out laughing.
So the next time I had the ball I really focused on Selene and hit the ball towards her, and surprisingly it hit her right on the nose. I know that hitting the girl you don't like in the head with a volleyball is very teen movie-esque, but I've always wanted to and who better to hit than Selene? Honestly, she was asking for it in my opinion.
But of course that caused her nose to start bleeding and for her to start crying, which made me feel a bit bad, while her friends surrounded her to console her while shooting me daggers with their eyes. Can she not function without her friends or something? Like seriously. I couldn't help but feel a little proud of myself, not only for my aim but also that I was able to make her day a bit worse. On the other hand I also felt a little bad, it's not like I meant to make her nose bleed. I just meant to hit like the top of her head.
For a second I thought that maybe Coach wouldn't notice but the next thing I knew Coach yelled, "MEADOWS! Get over here NOW!" And all I could think was, Shit. Which leads me to where I am now. Outside the principal's office praying to whatever god is out there that he won't tell my parents while picking at my lips. This chair is really uncomfortable.
My thoughts are interrupted when I hear, "Evangeline, would you join me in my office?" Obviously the principal didn't actually mean it as a question, but why even say it like a question if that's not how you mean it. Anyway, I stand up from the uncomfortable wooden chair that made my butt hurt, and follow Mr. Altman into his office. He takes a seat in his fancy leather chair and gestures for me to take a seat in the probably filthy seat across from him, but it's an upgrade from that atrocity outside so I sit down.
I zone out as Mr. Altman's voice drones on about how "violence is never the answer" and how "team sports are supposed to teach cooperation, not conflict." I nod at the right times, throw in some "I'm sorry"s and "It'll never happen again." He lets me off with a warning, saying that if anything like this happens again, he'll call my parents. I tell him I understand and as I stand up the last bell of the day rings so I leave and make my way to the parking lot. I stop to go check my hair in the mirror which takes a bit longer than I expected, so by the time I get outside there aren't too many people. Lucky me. At least I won't have to deal with all the people trying to get out through the one exit.
As I get into my car and connect my phone to the speaker, Take on Me plays, and I think about Selene. When I really think about it I guess I don't blame her. If my boyfriend kept staring at and talking about his ex, I'd be pissed too. But knowing that doesn't make it any easier. It doesn't change the fact that Dean chose her. And maybe that's why I can't stand her—because she's everything he wants, and I'm just... not.
When I finally get to my house, I turn off my car and walk inside. My parents aren't home yet, so I have the whole house to myself. Nice right? For once, I don't procrastinate and decide to work on my homework until my parents get home.
After I turned on my ringer, I connected my airpods and put on spotify. I was sitting at my desk staring at my desk, not doing my work like I said I would when I got a notification. I picked up my phone and saw it was from Courtney, my friend who wasn't at school today.
heyyy
so
sorry I wasn't at school today
i skipped with theo
If my eyes could roll out of my head they would have just then. Of course she was with him. Theo's her boyfriend from seventh grade. I had been sure they wouldn't make it past middle school, but clearly I was wrong. Now don't get me wrong, I'm happy for her but they're just so lovey-dovey, sugary sweet you know? After a minute I decided on what to say.
Dw about it
It's fine
But Selene confronted me about texting Dean
And then I may or may not have hit her in the face with a volleyball
And then I got sent to the prinicapls office but he let me off with a warning :/
Her response came nearly as soon as I sent the last message.
OMG really?
you told her that it was your friend that texted him right?
and she totally deserved that
I'm glad that someone agrees with me.
Yeah I told her but she didn't care
She thought I was lying
Once again her response was lighting fast.
of course she thought you were lying
shes such a biotch
well that sucks
if i was there i would have fought her for you ;p
I started typing but she typed faster than I did I guess.
hold up
sorry
i have to go
my mom is making me go get groceries :(
Ok
Well, that's the end of that conversation. I guess I actually have to get to work now. Ugh.
A/N: Okay so here's the thing: the prologue, the first chapter and the second chapter are the only ones that I've had the chance to work on, so I don't know when the third chapter will be posted because I haven't worked on it. I have a general idea of what I want it to be but that's it. Just figured I should tell you. Anyway, have a good day :)
