Notes & Disclaimers:
• MLP is Hasbro.
• This parody is based on a Disney story.
• Despite the Disney variation being labeled as a family film, I recommend parental guidance be required for all younger viewers, but this parody will remain appropriate to all audiences.
Here it is. The re-publishing of my very first MLP:FiM fanfiction. I hope you like it, and the image that will grab all of your attention.
Now the reason why I first made this was because the song "Out There" was the best song of the whole Disney movie, Hunchback of Notre Dame, in my opinion. So I thought, what if there was like an MLP parody or anything of that scene, and maybe Spike could be Quasimodo? Giving me the inspiration to create this…
The first installment to "My Little Disney Pony."

Out There
A long time ago, in a totally different world…Spike, a bell ringing dragon, lived within the large town known as the Crystal Empire. He was the only dragon that resided there, and on one day of his young life, everypony in the city was getting together for the Festival of Fools. While Spike was in his home, the bell tower of Crystal Dame. But not alone. He had the company of five enchanted statue ponies. Everyday, throughout his life he had been up on the tower watching everypony from down below, wishing he could interact with them. But he knew he wouldn't because he was a dragon, not a pony, and…too many ponies in his time thought that all dragons were savages. As well as a rare endangered species.
Not only that, he has been told to stay put by his master…King Sombra, leader of the Crystal Empire. But as the morning of a brand new day went on, the five statues named Twilight, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, and Fluttershy kept telling Spike that he should go to the festival. Spend at least one day with the ponies of the empire and enjoy it. Spike felt fearful at first, but wanted to take the chance, wanting to know what it was like to live amongst them.
So, through the high time of noon, he quickly got ready to leave the tower. He ran off, wearing fake hooves, a fake muzzle, and a black cloak on top of his green shirt so he could pose as a young pony. He ran quickly down the stairs, feeling very "nervicited", until he was stopped…by none other than his master.
"Hello, my son." King Sombra.
Spike backed up and spoke nervously. "Oh…hello master. What brings you here?"
"This is my home as well as yours, isn't it? And might I ask, what are you wearing?"
"Oh this? Well…I got bored so…I made a costume to play around in here."
"In here? At one of the lower floors that is near the exit of the tower?" King Sombra got him, so Spike gave up.
"Okay. Master, I was heading near the doors, b-b-but only to wait for you so maybe you could chaperone me for the festival."
Sombra looked disappointed so he walked up the stairs, giving Spike a cold shoulder.
"Master? Oh come on." Spike took off his costume and followed him. "Master, please. I love the festival and it's just that, you go every year and-"
"I know. I'm supposed to be there because I'm the king of this empire. I'm a public host, but that doesn't mean I enjoy it." After following him up, they made it to the top outside floor.
"Then why do you allow it?" Spike asked.
Sombra replied, "It's one of the only things that's meant to occupy the citizens with morale, and it's amazing I've put up with it this long. Fools, thieves, drunkies, all coming together for useless parties."
Spike turned and saw one of his secret friends, Pinkie Pie, in the shadows looking mad, but he gestured to her to stay there and not hurt Sombra. Because Sombra was unaware of the five friends Spike had.
So he looked at the view of the empire and said, "Spike. Look out there and tell me what you see."
"An empire filled with ponies who are getting together and ready to have fun?"
"Really? Well, what I see is an empire filled with ponies, who are shallow, who all bear dark secrets, and who will never see or care for you the way I do."
"I know, sir." Spike dropped his head down.
"Yes. You must remember that it was I who found you after your kind reached extinction. When you were an egg, I found you and brought you here to make sure no pony would know of you or hurt you."
"Yes, master. But seeing how you are the ki-"
"But nothing!" Sombra snapped. "Is this really the thanks I get for everything I've done for you?"
"No. M-Master, I'm sorry I didn't mean to offend you." Spike bowed down, looking sorry.
"Oh I know, just watch what you say."
"Yes. Again, I'm sorry."
"Alright. But look here again." Sombra gently helped him rise. "Being in this tower for years can make one curious about the world out there. But you shouldn't be. You do not know what it's like out there. I do. My son, I do." Sombra placed his hoof on Spike's shoulder and made him look at the town again.
Then as he continued speaking, he spoke in a manner that set a different tone.
"The world is cruel. The world is wicked. It's I alone whom you can trust in this whole city. I am your only friend. I who keep you, teach you, feed you, dress you." He made Spike look him in the eye. "I who look upon you without fear. How can I protect you, boy, unless you always stay in here? Away in here."
They walked back into the tower, and sat near a large table that had an entire scale model of the empire and figures based on the citizens, all made by Spike.
"Remember what I've taught you, Spike." King said. "You are a dragon."
Spike, "I am a dragon."
"And you are scary."
"And I am scary."
"And these are crimes for which the world shows little pity. You do not comprehend."
"You are my one true friend."
"Out there they'll revile you as a monster."
"I am a monster."
"Out there they will hate and scorn and jeer."
"Only a monster."
"Why invite their calumny and consternation? Stay in here. Be faithful to me."
"I'm faithful."
"Be grateful to me."
"Do as I say, obey, and stay in here."
Sombra stopped singing, and Spike sadly said to him, "Thank you, master. You really are my one true friend."
"Yes."
Spike hugged Sombra and he hesitantly allowed it.
"Remember Spike, this is your sanctuary and it always will be." Then Sombra left to attend the hosting of the festival. Spike just sat near the scale model, feeling more sad and glum than he thought over his master's reaction. Then the five ponies came by his side.
Twilight took his shoulder saying, "You know, Spike...there's a total difference between sanctuary and prison."
"I know." Spike looked at his friends, the bells, the model, and everything outside as he began to "speak" more.
"Safe behind these windows and these parapets of stone. Gazing at the people down below me. All my life I watch them as I hide up here alone, hungry for the histories they show me. All my life I memorized their faces. Knowing them as they will never know me. All my life I wonder how it feels to pass a day. Not above them, but part of them." Spike looked at the town again but more joyfully. "And out there, living in the sun. Give me one day out there. All I ask is one to hold forever. Out there. Where they all live unaware. What I'd give, what I'd dare…" He moved around the tower athletically, and hugged his friends as they smiled to see him the way he was this morning. "Just to live one day out there! Out there among the millers and the weavers and their wives, through the roofs and gables I can see them. Ev'ry day they shout and scold and go about their lives. Heedless of the gift it is to be them." He slid down to the next edge of the tower. Looking at the bright sun and one large part of the city. "If I was in their skin, I'd treasure every instant. Out there, strolling by the sand, tasting a morning out there." He reached the top of the tower. "Like ordinary men, who freely walk about there. Just one day and then I swear I'll be content with my share." He reached back down to meet up with friends, feeling more joyful, more courageous, all enough to do what he wanted. "Won't resent! Won't despair! Old and bent, I won't care! I'll have spent one day OUT THERE!"
Spike and his friends smiled at the distance out there, and Spike had decided…it was time. He planned to go and head to the festival. Just to at least enjoy this one day out there.
End of Chapter 0-1
More Notes & Disclaimers:
• "manner": In other words, while he was talking in the perspective of the story, he was singing in our perspective.
• "Out There" by Tom Hulce.
There we go. I hope you all liked it again, and here's some more info to remember in case that didn't make any sense.
Spike is Quasimodo, as it was established, and again, he isn't deformed but the last dragon of his kind, and King Sombra is the wicked Frollo. And you could see that Twilight and the others were the gargoyles. But for Rarity, since Spike is Quasi, then why not have Rarity as Esmeralda? Those are the characters, and again, I hope you all loved sweet little Spike's big moment as the heroic bell ringer of Crystal Dame. In this story that is THE DRAGON OF CRYSTAL DAME.
Now, after this, there was a time where I tried to merge this and the other scenes that came after all together. But now that's done a little differently. This is pretty much Chapter 1 and the rest of the scenes will be merged. Though since it has also been merged with "My Little Disney Pony," I guess I can instead mark it as Chapter 0 . 1 as a way to remind everyone that it used to be a separate thing.
So feel free to read more when the next chapters come up, and someday you'll enjoy more insight on "The Dragon of Crystal Dame" and "My Little Disney Pony."
