Chapter 10: Nationals

The day had finally arrived.

The excitement in the air was palpable as the Glee club boarded the bus, heading toward Chicago for Nationals. Two days of intense preparation, sweat, and dreams had all led to this moment. The competition of a lifetime awaited them, and despite everything that had happened—Quinn's manipulations, Rachel's pregnancy, Will and Emma's wedding—there was only one thing on their minds now: victory.

Rachel sat by the window, her thoughts swirling. She had always dreamed of performing on a national stage, but now, with the twins growing inside her, everything felt different. The stakes were higher, and the weight of it all was more real than ever. She rubbed her hand over her stomach absentmindedly, still in awe that she was going to be a mother of two. But today wasn't about her worries or the complications of pregnancy; today was about the music, the team, and the dream they had been working toward for months.

Finn, seated beside her, gave her hand a reassuring squeeze. "We've got this," he said, his voice full of confidence, but there was an edge of nervousness in his eyes.

"I know," Rachel whispered back, though she wasn't sure if she meant the words for Finn or for herself.

The bus ride was filled with nervous chatter, but the team was clearly energized. Emma and Will sat at the front, offering words of encouragement as they headed to their final destination. The closer they got to the competition venue, the more Rachel could feel the nerves creeping up. She tried to focus on the music, on the rehearsals, but the pressure was immense. It was Nationals. They were about to compete with the best Glee clubs in the country.

When the bus finally rolled to a stop, the club spilled out into the arena parking lot, the towering building before them gleaming in the sunlight. Nationals was happening here, in this grand space, and the team was about to perform in front of thousands of people. The adrenaline rush was nearly overwhelming.

Rachel felt a flutter in her stomach. She wasn't sure if it was nerves or the babies shifting, but she took a deep breath to steady herself.

"Alright, everyone, this is it," Will said as he stood on the steps of the bus. "This is our moment. We've come this far because we believed in each other, and now we have to bring it all to this stage. Let's show them what we've got!"

The team erupted into cheers, their confidence rising. But Rachel couldn't help but notice Quinn standing a little apart from the rest. She looked more subdued than usual, but she still held her head high. Despite everything that had happened between them, Rachel couldn't deny that Quinn was a part of this team, and her presence felt like a necessary piece to the puzzle.

They made their way into the arena, each member mentally preparing for the biggest performance of their lives. The atmosphere was electric, with Glee clubs from all over the country warming up and preparing backstage. The Glee club members passed other teams, each with their own unique style and swagger, but the group remained focused.

Rachel stood with Finn backstage, their arms around each other, exchanging quiet words of encouragement.

"We're going to crush this, Rachel," Finn said, giving her a tender kiss on the forehead.

"I hope so," she replied, her voice laced with a mix of excitement and nerves. "We've worked so hard."

As the time drew near, the group huddled together in a tight circle, their hands joined, ready to face the spotlight. Will's voice cut through the buzz of backstage chatter.

"This is our moment, Glee club. Let's remember who we are. We're a family. And that means we give it everything we've got. No matter what happens, we should be proud of each other. Now, let's go out there and show them what we're made of."

With those words, the group filed onto the stage. The spotlight hit them immediately, blinding and intense, but they didn't falter. The music began, the familiar beat pulsing through the arena as the Glee club launched into their first song. Rachel felt the surge of energy fill her, and for a brief moment, the rest of the world disappeared.

They danced. They sang. They poured everything they had into each note and every movement, remembering all the sacrifices, the struggles, and the victories that had led them here. Rachel couldn't focus on anything except the music, the harmony of their voices blending together, each voice elevating the others. It was as if they were one entity—no longer individuals, but a collective force working toward a shared goal.

But Rachel, with her growing belly, felt the familiar discomfort creep in as she hit higher notes. She did her best to push through, but it became harder and harder to ignore the weight of her body. She couldn't hide the slight grimace on her face as the performance continued. She pushed through for the team, for the audience, but every so often, the exhaustion and the physical toll of pregnancy were impossible to ignore. Still, she refused to let it affect the group's performance.

At the end of their set, they stood together on stage, breathing heavily, their clothes slightly askew from the energy of the performance. The crowd erupted into applause. The cheers were deafening, and the sense of accomplishment was overwhelming. Rachel felt a sense of pride swell in her chest. They had done it. They had given it their all.

The Glee club huddled together backstage, a sense of euphoria radiating from each of them. There were no words needed; everyone knew how hard they had worked, and how far they had come. They had poured their hearts into this, and now, they just had to wait.

But before anyone could speak, Emma and Will came rushing over, smiles wide and proud.

"You were amazing," Emma said, her voice filled with emotion. "You all were incredible. I could feel the energy in the air. You gave it everything."

Will clapped Finn on the back, grinning. "That was one for the history books."

Rachel could barely contain her excitement, but her body was now sending clear signals that she needed to sit down. Finn, noticing her discomfort, gently took her arm.

"Come on, let's sit for a bit," he said. "You did great, Rachel. You were amazing out there. We all were."

Two hours later, the Glee club stood in a tense cluster as the judges tallied the scores. The air was thick with anticipation. Will, Emma, and the rest of the team exchanged hopeful glances. This was the moment they had all been waiting for.

Finally, the announcement came. "And the winners of this year's National Show Choir Competition are…" The room seemed to hold its breath.

"…The New Directions!"

The roar of excitement filled the room as the team erupted into cheers. Tears of joy and relief flooded their eyes. They had won. They had actually done it.

Rachel, overwhelmed with emotion, turned to Finn, her voice barely above a whisper. "We did it, Finn. We really did it."

Finn pulled her into a tight hug, his joy contagious. "We did, Rachel. We made it."

And as the Glee club celebrated their victory, Rachel's heart soared. They had faced so many challenges, but they had come through stronger than ever. Nationals had been the final test, but this was just the beginning for the New Directions.

With their future now open before them, there was only one thing Rachel knew for certain: they had finally found their place in the world.

Together.
