Drew took off his shoes so they wouldn't make a sound when he stepped inside the house. He unlocked the front door and silently opened it enough to slip inside. He placed his shoes down on the floor and tiptoed through the dark house.
He had promised Sissy he would return soon and that he was just watching the game with the boys. A lie he had used many times before. She had caught him cheating several times before but she always forgave him. That didn't stop him from trying to shield her from the ugly truth. What she didn't know wouldn't hurt her, and he wouldn't have to beg for forgiveness.
In his world their relationship was perfect. It shouldn't matter that he stepped out on her every once in a while when he always came home and loved her like he was supposed to. He was a WWE superstar and that meant he was allowed to do more than other people were. That was how he justified it in his own head. He was on the road often and she couldn't expect him to always be faithful. He was a man with needs.
He walked past the living room and stopped right after. The room had felt alive somehow. It felt like eyes had been staring at him through the darkness. He took a few steps backwards and looked into the room. He could see a silhouette in the darkness. He hit the light switch and two dark blue eyes stared directly at him. Sissy was awake and waiting for him.
"Hi, darling," he said.
He tried with his best smile while wondering why she was fully dressed at this late hour. She was wearing jeans, a sweater and sneakers. Her short, medium brown hair looked like it always did when she started her day. It didn't look like she had been in bed at all.
"What are you doing sitting in the darkness like that? You nearly gave me a heart attack," he said. "By the way, Randy sends his love. I'm very tired. Let's go to bed."
She stood up and he kept his smile. Everything was still fine. She believed him. She had to. He turned to walk towards the bedroom but froze on the spot when she finally spoke.
"I'm leaving you," she said.
He turned his head to look at her again. She looked dead serious. He started laughing, hoping it would make her laugh too and say it was just a joke. Her facial expression remained the same and his laughter quickly died down.
"Where is this coming from?" He asked.
"I can't do this anymore," she said.
"Why not?" He asked.
"I told you last time it was the final time but you went and fucked someone else again tonight," she said.
"No, I didn't," he said.
"Yes, you did," she said.
"Prove it. If you're so damn sure I cheated, prove it," he said.
He was sure she couldn't prove anything. She sighed, took out her phone, and sent him a text. His phone beeped in his back pocket but he crossed his arms instead of looking at the text she sent.
"This is childish. I'm not reading that. Use your words as an adult," he said.
She sighed again and put her phone back in her pocket before walking over to him. He refused to move for her but she pushed her way between him and the door frame. Instead of turning towards the bedroom, she turned towards the front door. He followed behind to see where she might be going.
"Where are you going?" He asked.
"I already told you," she said.
"Alright, alright. I kissed a girl. That's all that happened. I swear. And she came on to me. I pushed her away right after the kiss," he said.
"I don't care, Drew," she said.
She grabbed her jacket and put it on. She pulled the car keys out of her pocket and opened the front door.
"Okay, go for a ride to calm down. I understand that. I'll be waiting in bed for you. Tomorrow we can talk about it. It was just one silly, little kiss. I'll cook you breakfast and we can watch some movies or something," he said.
She closed the door after her. She didn't even slam it in anger. She just closed it normally. He heard her car start up and he turned to walk to the bedroom. It wasn't until he was in there that he decided to see what she had written in that text. He took out his phone and stared in horror at the pictures she had texted him. The woman he had slept with tonight had apparently been recording them and sent several pictures to her as proof. He knew it was risky sleeping with someone who claimed they were a fan but he didn't think this would ever happen.
"Fuck!" He mumbled.
The house suddenly felt empty and cold. Sissy's threat about leaving him was ringing inside his head. He ran to her wardrobe and opened it. It was empty.
"No, no, no," he mumbled.
He ran to the bathroom and found all her belongings gone.
"This isn't happening," he said.
He ran to the front door and tore it open. Her car was long gone. He ran outside and looked both ways on the empty street.
"Sissy!" He yelled.
He didn't get any other answer than a dog barking further down. He hurried inside before any neighbors came out to question why he was shouting at this late hour. He looked at his phone and dialed her number, only to find that she had blocked him.
"What the fuck?" He whispered.
He looked around and saw all her shoes and jackets were gone. She had been serious when she said she was leaving him. His heart broke on the spot. He leaned his back against the wall and slid down to sit on the floor while sobbing to himself. No one was there to listen. No one was there to comfort him. It was just him and the dark, empty house.
