I own nothing.
I've noticed the mobile app acting up lately, so I hope that starts working better again soon.
Edward POV-
The next few weeks go by without any issues, Leah comes around every few days. Often she joins Elizabeth and I on trips into town or even for hikes around the area. Seth has only been around a few times as the co-alphas have the younger wolves running patrols after school and on weekends, so he's being kept extra busy. I think the young wolf is getting a bit tired of it and last time he came around he was talking about how Sam was complaining about needing more wolves to break up the patrols more. We've made more of a point of visiting Grandpa Charlie and even had him and Billy to the house where Elizabeth could show them her garden and her piano skills. She also used the safety of our secluded house to show Charlie some of her more vampire skills such as how fast she can run, her tree climbing abilities, and more of her special way of communicating. Charlie wasn't too sure how he felt knowing everything he knows about vampires and my gift, but his love for Elizabeth has overpowered everything else.
Jacob has been working on stretching time between his visits. So far he is up to four days before his wolf instincts pushes him too much to come see Elizabeth. When he does come around she is happy to see him, but if she is in the middle of playing with something he normally only gets a quick hello from her before she goes back to what she was doing. These visits are becoming more of Jacob and I talking like old friends while Elizabeth plays.
Today we are sitting on the porch, watching Elizabeth play in her garden as she pulls weeds and digs for bugs.
"I've signed up for that summer science program. Used some of that money you snuck into my account, I would demand you take all that money back. But…. It's the only way I'd be able to do the program, so I guess a thanks is in order." I can tell he's slightly embarrassed by the money, most people are. No one likes to feel like a charity case. So I don't say much about it, nor do I call him out on his embarrassment. Money shouldn't be the reason he misses out on doing any program or planning for a future. When he gets into collage I fully plan to make sure every penny for his schooling is paid for. He's a good kid and does have the smarts when he concentrates on his schoolwork.
"I'm glad you were able to sign up for the program, your wolf seems to be settling better into your old life, into your future plans." There were times when Elizabeth was first born that Jacob couldn't even let her out of his sight for an hour and when he was around her, he wanted to be within arm's length of her at all times. Now he's able to comfortably sit here on the porch and watch as Elizabeth plays. Yes, he still watches her closely, but it's lessening. "My family are all planning to go visit our cousins up in Denali, I'm planning to take Elizabeth up for a few days." Jacob tenses even before I finish speaking.
"Um, I'm sure she will like that." He practically forces the words out but I can see how tense he is. As his thoughts go haywire. 'They're leaving? No they WILL come back! What if Lizzy loves Alaska more than here? Edward already promised that they were not going to disappear. It's not disappearing if he's telling me where they are going.'
I sit there quietly as he fights with himself. Sometimes it's best just to let people have their own internal thoughts to work through any issues and this is one of those times.
I only speak once he's calmed himself.
"I think the trip would be wonderful for her. We're only going to be four days. Elizabeth is a bit worried about leaving her garden for too long, she doesn't want the weeds to take over. So we're going to fly up there with the rest of the family, that way the trip won't take too long." At the mention of flying Jacob turns his face away from Elizabeth and stares at me.
'You're taking her on a plane?' He purposely projects this question to me, not wanting to say it out loud.
"Calm Jacob, we are taking the family plane. Emmett got his pilot license years ago, there won't be any humans crammed onto a plane like sardines with us."
"OH well I guess that should be good then." 'Yeah casually just mention buying a plane. That's totally normal.' I could see now he wasn't really worried about all of us with humans, he was a bit worried about how Elizabeth would deal with being tucked into such close proximity to humans.
"Jacob, she's been doing well. I take her out a few times a week, you know this. We often join Claire and her family at the park when they come into town to see Quil. We go to the grocery store, the Aquarium, the Zoo, museums. She does so well. But we wouldn't risk it by going on a commercial plane. And this way we can come home earlier if we need to. I'll have my phone, if the distance gets to be too much call me. We'll come back. But this will be a good test for your summer plans." I can see man and beast practically fight inside Jacob's mind. He's breathing hard as if a part of him wants to shift, though thankfully he's had plenty of practice and doesn't just explode into his shifts when he gets angry.
"She does do wonderful. This is a good thing." He says, more to himself than to me as we go back to watching Elizabth play for a bit longer.
"When are you leaving?" He finally asks after a few minutes of silence.
"We plan to leave in three days. I know its short notice for you, we can wait a few more days and just meet the family up there a bit later." He starts breathing hard again. Human and wolf fighting for control.
"No, its ok. It's good. We'll be ok. Um I um, I need to leave soon but maybe I'll come by right before you leave?" Jacob says a quick goodbye to Elizabeth and leaves, not waiting for a reply. I can tell he just needs to process everything.
"Elizabeth I'm going to get your dinner ready you need to come inside and clean up in fifteen minutes please." I say as I go inside. As dinner is cooking I start cleaning up a few things that had been left out. Multiple Barbies and so many books. One book catches my eye, The Legends of the Female Shifters by Lisa and Cass Glass. Leah and I had been reading more of it last night during her visit, we normally put it back on a high shelf but today we got distracted making pancakes. I'm careful with the book as I put it back into its rightful spot. Leah had told me a few days ago that she preferred to leave it here, that she enjoyed reading it with someone. It's an interesting book, its given Leah more hope than she's had since shifting.
Two nights later Elizabeth is jumping on her bed in excitement. Jacob left after visiting for a few hours, he wanted to see her as much as possible before we headed out. But at least he trusts that we're coming back. Our bags are all packed and we would be leaving early in the morning to fly out to Alaska with the family. Elizabeth was more than a little excited. So excited she keeps saying she's not sure how she's ever going to get some sleep, though the moment I get her down and tucked in she falls straight into a deep sleep.
I'm glad she is excited for our trip. The last time we went up to Alaska, Jacob and Bella were with us and things were a bit more stressful than our current planned trip.
The next morning Elizabeth can't stop talking about seeing the family. Her excitement makes me smile as I work on braiding her hair. Before the family moved I made sure to learn a few easy hairstyles so my daughter wouldn't be running around with her hair going all over the place all the time. In the month that we've been here at the cabin Leah has also shown me a few hairstyles.
We're heading out to Denali for a few days, but you're welcome to come by the cabin if you need space or want your book. I send a quick text out to Leah as Elizabeth and I head out. I've told her all this the last time she was here, but wanted to make sure she remembered.
It doesn't take us long to meet the family at the airport. We had decided as a family a few years ago that having a private jet would be easier for us as a family to fly. Especially given Jasper's issue being in such close proximity to humans, it was an easy decision to buy our own private plane. The decision on letting Emmett become a pilot I still wasn't fully sure of, a part of him always wants to try a loop-de-loop.
I know, no loops. We have a VIP. Emmett projects his thoughts to me as he hugs Elizabeth. "Elizabeth, my most favorite niece."
His antics cause her to giggle. "I'm your only niece Uncle Em."
"You're right kid. So I'm your favorite Uncle right?" He gives her a puppy dog look as he sets her back onto her feat.
"NoPE" She says popping the p. "I have two favorite Uncles!"
"Edward, we've missed you." Esme says as the family all board the plane and grab seats. It's been a long running joke that I'm Carlisle and Esme's favorite, unfortunately due to me reading minds and Jasper feeling emotions we know that statement is true. The rest of my siblings didn't necessarily care about it, not really.
Jasper nearly slipped again last night. Alice says in silent greeting. Her mind full of the pain and agony of watching Jasper go through all of this.
I assume she told you. Jasper's thoughts reach me next. Alice and I had always been the closest of the 'siblings'. We quickly bonded over our gifts. 'Freaks among the freaks.' Alice had declared when she had first learned about my ability. 'I hate causing her so much worry, we're thinking about staying in Alaska for a while. Keeping more isolated. Intergrading me into the human world isn't working out so well. Maybe if you assure her that you and Elizabeth will come visit us more up here she will agree. For now none of her visions of our future are looking like I will ever get a full handle on my thirst.'
I don't say anything, Jasper didn't want to have a conversation. It's why he's told me all this in his thoughts. I give him a nod as I work on projecting emotions towards him, drawing on the brotherly bond we've formed and filling it with love, hope, and reassurance. His empathic ability wasn't as easy to answer silently without filling everyone in on our conversation but we have worked out ways. This wasn't the first time we've had a similar conversation. He's often so hard on himself about his lack of control. I have caught Jasper thinking a time or two how different of a vampire he may be if Carlisle had changed him. If his introduction into our world wasn't the bloody southern vampire wars he had to endure for nearly 50 years. Jasper has always tried to squish down his memories from before Alice, but I have caught them a few times.
I had forgotten how it felt to be so close to the family, even though it's only been about a month since they left Forks. None of them have ever faulted me for hearing their every thought when they are in my presence. But still they didn't like having no privacy with their own thoughts and as much as they tried to hide their feelings on that they couldn't completely hide their thoughts about it, especially Rosalie. As a human she was very shallow about looks and status. Now as a vampire it's an obsession of hers, she can't help it. Only three of them accepted it without any annoyance, Carlisle for one. My ability to read minds made my newborn stage easier on him, something he highly appreciated when Esme was changed, it took both of us to contain her. To stop her from hurting any humans. Emmett didn't care that I could hear his thoughts, because he will say anything and everything that pops into his head anyways, so his thoughts aren't secret. Last is Alice, she liked that someone else could share her visions with her. She liked that she wasn't the lone freak among vampires.
"Are you two doing ok? We could build another cabin close by. I can stop working as a doctor for a while. Esme and I can be closer, you wouldn't have to be so alone." I can hear the worry in Carlisle's voice and see the worries in his mind. 'You know we never love it when you are away from the family. We worry.'
I watch Elizabeth play with her family before I answer Carlisle.
"We're doing good Carlisle, Elizabeth is amazing. She's done well with hunting; she does her school work. Her control is unmatched one time when we were at the park with a human Claire she's Quil's imprint, the little girl fell and scrapped her knee. Elizabeth knew exactly what to do and ran quickly to me. Leah has been coming around often, she was given this incredible book by Billy. It has so much information and in there it suggests that an imprint can be broken. It doesn't fully say how, but we're on the right path. Jacob has been stretching his visits out longer and longer. He's planning by summertime to be able to be away for an entire month. You love working as a doctor Carlisle don't quit. If this works, we'll be able to leave the area earlier than we had planned. Jacob will be able to have a normal life." I keep my voice low, not wanting Elizabeth to overhear us.
"That's all good son, but there is no need for you to be isolated." This isn't the first time we've had a conversation like this.
"We just miss you dear." Esme says joining us. Esme was so broken when Carlisle found her, when he changed her. She had just lost her baby, and the pain of that loss had been too much. Once the newborn cravings had calmed down she had started treating me as a surrogate son. I didn't mind, its what she needed at the time. But at times it was difficult to be treated like a child by her.
"I'm sorry we haven't been around much. We'll make more plans to visit more, or you can come visit us at the cabin more. But there is no need for the two of you to move again so soon."
They want to continue arguing. But thankfully stop as Emmett announces we'll be landing soon. Alice and Rosalie have already buckled Elizabeth up safely in her seat as the rest of us sit, so we at least look buckled up to the humans who could potentially be around to see us after we land.
Once we land and disembark the plane we all load up into the two waiting rental cars a Cadillac SRX AWD V-8 and a Acura MDX Sport. It was a coin toss on who was going to get to drive but in the end I won the Acura and Rosalie won the Cadillac. The drive to Denali didn't take long, though I had turned down Rosalies challenge of a race. No way was I going to race on icy roads with Elizabeth in the car. The welcome we receive this time when we pull up to their home is warmer than the last. Though this time they knew we were coming, unlike the time I brought Bella with Elizabeth and Jacob.
"How wonderful to see all of you again." Tanya says welcoming us. Carmen and Eleazar on one side of her and Kate and Garrett on the other. At least one good thing came from our non-fight with the Volturi. Kate had found a mate in Garrett. He's even changed his feeding habits to match her vegetarian diet.
"Tanya, thank you for having us." Carlisle had arranged this trip. He had told us that it would be great for the family to get together and that we should visit our "cousins" more often. But now I could see he had slightly hoped I would find a mate in Tanya, now that Bella had left. Someone who could help me raise Elizabeth.
We've talked about Tanya before, time and time again even before Bella, I have never been interested in Tanya. She's beautiful, I've told her so before, even more beautiful than Rosalie. But there has always been something off. I've never been able to put my finger on it, but her flirtations never worked on me. They felt strange to me. I've never told anyone that. Since I wasn't sure what it was. But there was always a whisper of something in her mind. I could never fully hear it. But it was something different. Something I had never heard before. It was off putting and the reason I didn't give into her flirtations and obvious interest.
'Edward, we were sorry to hear that Bella left. I.. I'm sorry I was hoping you'd find happiness with her.' Tanya's thoughts catch my attention. This time there is no hint of any of the flirtation she normally has when I'd come to visit. That small whisper I can never fully make out in her thoughts is there, but more dormant, not trying to push on me. I wouldn't mind if she had found a way to block my gift, but I knew whatever was happening was happening without her knowing. She wasn't aware of it. 'I was really glad when Carlisle said you and your daughter would be joining the family. Esme let us know that she's changed her name to Elizabeth. She's an extraordinary child. I… I know in the past I've made your visits here uncomfortable. I won't do that anymore.'
"Thank you, Tanya for your warm welcome." I give Tanya a smile letting her know I appreciate her words. "We can let the past be the past Tanya." I whisper quietly in her ear as I give her a hug before moving on to give my greetings to Kate, Garret, Carmen and Eleazar.
It doesn't take long for Emmett to drag Garret and Eleazar into some playful wrestling matches as the rest of us head inside.
"I went to the grocery store and got a few things I thought Elizabeth would enjoy, but if I missed anything the store isn't too far of a drive." Tanya says leading us inside. "Elizabeth I also re-did this room here for you. I know you'll only be here a few days but I wanted you to be comfortable."
Elizabeth squeals in excitement as she opens the door and steps in. Pink everything practically spilling out of the room.
"You spoil her Aunt Tanya." I say, though I'm glad Elizabeth will have a place of her own while we are here visiting.
"Yes, but it has made her so happy." Tanya can't take her eyes off Elizabeth as she runs around the room only stopping when she notices a doll house. Different from the one at home, but just as big.
"Aunt Tanya thank you so much! Oh who wants to play I brought all my Barbies!" and like a shot she's running out of the room and to where her bags had been dropped by the front door.
Elizabeth makes herself comfortable unloading all her Barbies she brought, handing one to each of the ladies telling them they could play with her. I leave the ladies and follow Jasper outside. Carlisle has now joined in with Emmett and the other guys matches, its times like this that I enjoy our visits with others of our kind. Carlisle can shed that older dr image and let loos a bit.
"Alice didn't say much. Just that you had another close call last night." I say to Jasper as we walk a bit away from the family to have a private conversation.
"She's too good to me." He exclaims. "She thinks I can keep a handle on myself, but I know better. I think the love she has for me blinds her to it. But you see it, you know I shouldn't be around so many humans. The learning about them, trying to make them people it doesn't help. Even knowing I will feel their fear and very last emotion. Nothing helps."
I can feel the stress pouring off of him. Jasper doesn't like to be seen as weak. Weakness in the territory wars of the South would get you killed. It shows how much trust he has for us, that he can admit his weakness. We've had conversations like this before, the reason I struggle killing. Since I can hear my victims' last thoughts. Jasper can feel his victims' last emotions, but he's numb to it, It doesn't bother him as much.
"Tanya has always said anyone in the family can build a house here. I think if this is what you want talk more to Alice about it. She'll listen. I'll bring Elizabeth up to visit often, we're family. Once Elizabeth and I can leave Forks we can plan to move here also if you two need. Maybe its about time we all build our own homes here in Alaska, will give us all a more permanent place to come. Since its away from humans." As I said this I could practically see it. We would have a home to always escape to, somewhere we could stay for as long as we want. Or come whenever we want. We wouldn't have to wait for a human's lifetime before returning to the area. We had a few favorite houses scattered around the world, but every time we left one we had to make sure to stay gone for a while.
That night after putting Elizabeth to bed we were all sitting around quietly. Everyone aware that if they wanted to be loud they would need to take it elsewhere to not wake my sleeping child.
"So, Jasper and I were speaking." Alice says, having finally made up her mind after Jasper had filled her in on our conversation. "Tanya if the offer still stands, we would love to build a house here and stay a bit longer."
Alices statement catches Tanya off guard but makes her happy. So far her family has always made it work just staying in the one house. They've just added onto it through the years. "You two are more than welcome to build a home here."
"Thank…." Alices words get cut off as she gets thrown into a vision.
She's standing outside on the driveway looking around. Where only one house used to be now sat five more houses, all forming a comfortable looking community. "OH, um I guess we're going to need a lot of space."
Alice doesn't say anything else as she practically dances out the door. I know what she is about to do as she runs around marking the ground she had just seen in her vision.
"We're going to need to remove all these trees. We'll plant new ones over there to replace what we cut down. But yes, five houses will fit lovely here." She's talking fast even for a vampire. Excited about the future she just saw.
"Alice dear. I can tell you're excited but would you or Edward like to clue us into your vision you just had? Because we're at a bit of a loss, why would we need five houses?" Jasper finally says, trying to get Alice to stop dancing around.
"We're all going to build houses here Jasper. It will give us a more permanent place we can all come. It won't matter how long we stay or how often we come. It will be amazing Jasper and we, well we can stay here as long as you want."
"Alice, wouldn't we only need four houses then? One for Carlisle and Esme, the second for Rose and Emmett, the third for Edward and Elizabeth. The fourth would be for us. Who is the last house for?" Jasper asks turning to look at Tanya and her family who had also followed us all outside. So far they have always stayed in one house together.
"None of us, we've discussed that we prefer to all stay in this house together just recently." Garrett said. The others all echo his statement.
"Hmmm, well I don't know that's just what I saw." Alice says, not bothered that there is an extra house, more excited to design her own home. Which isn't a first for us, but Alice always loved designing and decorating. If she had been human she would have been a well known fashion or interior designer. But as a vampire it's a little difficult to do either of those things when you don't age.
We spend the rest of the night designing our homes, Esme had taken some classes and had become quite skilled at designing blueprints. We all work on designing our homes, leaving the mystery home for last. We'll build it, Alice's vision was strong enough that we know the house will be there. We just don't know who will be living there. Together we decide to make a simple 3 bedroom home, that can easily be changed up once we learn who the home will be for.
I opt for a home that surrounds a courtyard that we can enclose when the weather is bad. It will give Elizabeth a place to play and be "outside" even in the middle of a storm. The outside of the houses we use similar material to the current house, not wanting them to look too odd. Though our homes will be a bit smaller since they will house far less people than the current home.
We'll hire some professionals to come up and be discreet about building our homes once we've gotten all the plans sorted.
The next few days feel wonderful, not often are we able to completely shed the human act that we play. But here we are able to be freer, no humans around for miles. Elizabeth loved watching all of our antics as we race, wrestle, and all try to outdo each other. Esme normally acting as referee especially when Jasper and I try to go head to head in a wrestling match. She let us go on for about an hour before calling it a draw.
"I would have, had you eventually Edward." Jasper teases as we break apart.
"Yes oh mighty warrior." I mock with a small bow. I missed these times, where we could just be carefree. Truthfully, we both knew eventually Jasper could outmaneuver my mind-reading. But I'm also a faster runner, if needed I could outrun him, possibly. This is always why we have Esme, or another family member referee our matches. We could go on for days if we really wanted to.
"Daddy do we have to leave so soon?" Elizabeth asks while she eats her breakfast on our last day. "Can't we stay and watch the new homes be built?" She has talked non stop about our new home, and even had some input on what kind of stuff she would like. I've opted to spoil her a bit and added an amazing looking kid slide structure to our courtyard area along with some greenhouses so we could plant a garden eventually.
"Princess, we need to go back to the Cabin at least for a few days. Don't you want to check on your garden? Wouldn't you like to see your friends, I've been in contact with Claires parents they wanted us to join them for a beach day in two days." At the mention of her garden and visiting Claire at the beach, Elizabeth becomes excited to be going home.
"My garden! Oh I hope its ok." She says as she goes back to eating her breakfast. "Claire and I said next time we go to the beach we're going to build the biggest sand castle."
The entire family are sitting scattered around the house talking peacefully as thoughts hit me, stopping my conversation with Tanya in its tracks.
Sis, this land reeks of vampires. We shouldn't be here. Voice one.
I was just following my instincts, why would they lead us to vampires when we're looking for other female wolves? Voice two.
There's more than just a few vampires around here. There are a lot, I don't know if we should be here. Voice three.
"Edward, what is it?" Carlisle's voice catches my attention as I notice Alice has her faraway vision look. I was so distracted by the voices I didn't realize Alice having a blank vision. One that she used to get around the wolves before she got to know them.
"Um, female wolves. Looking for other female wolves. I'm going to see if they will speak with me. Elizabeth, please stay here." I'm aware of Jasper, Emmett, and Tanya following me out the door. The others ready to come out at a moments notice if need.
It's easy enough to find them, though I am careful not to get too close to them before calling out. "Hello shifters, you're looking for female wolves? I know one, will you speak with us? We mean you no harm."
How does he know what we're doing? Voice three asks.
I'd bet money he's a mind reader; we've met a few vampires with strange skills. Voice one said.
If he knows where a female wolf is I want to speak with him. Maybe only one of us should shift, speak to them. Voice two says. I wait giving them time to decide if they want to speak with us or run off. Praying they choose to speak to us, since I'm not sure if I would be able to just let them run off. They could have information important to Leah.
If you really can read our minds wait there, I'm going to shift and then we'll come closer. Voice one says as I see their wolf forms disappear behind some trees.
"One of them will be shifting to speak with us." I let the others know.
Soon enough a woman looking to be in her twenties comes walking towards us, flanked by two wolves. "Stay here, they're nervous to see so many vampires." I whisper to the others as I slowly start walking forward.
"Hello, my name is Edward. You're right, I can read minds. My companions here are my brothers Jasper, Emmett and our cousin Tanya."
"You have strange looking eyes." The woman says as we stop near each other.
Lisa you can't go saying things like that. Voice two yells at her. Looks like they are all still mind connected.
"Yes all of us here, my family we don't hunt humans. We call ourselves vegetarian and hunt animals."
"Now that is interesting. I'm sorry for my rude comment. I'm Lisa and this is my twin sister Cass." She points to a wolf on her right before pointing to the wolf on her left. "Tiffany joined us only a few years ago. We've been looking for other female wolves for years. We seem to be pretty uncommon."
"Glass." I say the name before I can stop myself "You're Lisa and Cass Glass, the writers of The Legends of the Female Shifters."
"You know our book?" Lisa asks, unsure how she feels about that.
"I've skimmed some of it. I have a friend Leah who was given the book by one of her elders, she lives in La Push, Washington. The book has helped her learn things about being a female shifter." At the mention of Leah her feelings turn to curiosity.
'That's why we ended up here then. We were trying to find a female wolf we are no where close to going all the way to Washington.' Cass says.
'So you can direct us on how to get to this Leah?' Tiffany asks.
"How old is she, how long has she been a wolf. Does she still have a pack?" Lisa starts spouting off questions, her thoughts filling with even more. Cass and Tiffany are just as excited.
"Leah will be 21 later this year. Her pack is around still." I don't give them all the information about Leah. We don't know these wolves and most of what they want to know about her, Leah can share if she meets them. If she wants to.
'Since they seem friendly enough, I'm going to head inside and fill the others in.' Tanya says to me as she heads back inside the house.
"We would love to meet her or at least get into contact with her." Lisa says.
"If you want to give me your contact number I can pass it over to her. But there was a part in the book that caught our attention, you don't go into any more detail about it from what we can see. How can an imprint bond be broken?" This was my chance to actually find out how to break the bond, if it truly can be done.
"You know someone who wants to break an imprint?" Lisa asks, the other wolves thoughts mirroring her question.
"The situation is complicated." I say, not too sure how much I want to tell them. Movement behind me catch all of our attentions.
"A bad storm is rolling in soon. Tanya said you shifters are welcome to come into the house." Alice doesn't come as close as I am, but close enough to speak. Edward I think that other house we saw, I think it's for them.
Alices thoughts make me a bit more comfortable, though I'm still a bit unsure about brining them into the house where my daughter is.
'A house would feel a lot better than getting caught in another storm.' Tiffany says.
'I'm not sure, there's a good handful of vampires there. We smelled all those scents.' Cass puts in her own thoughts.
"We don't particularly like…" Lisa stops trying to think of the right words. "We don't like being out in these crazy Alaskan storms, but um, we can tell there's quiet a few vampires around. I'm assuming they're all in the house that your little pixy just invited us into."
"The pixy is my sister Alice, she is Jaspers mate. You're right there are quite a few of us here. But none of them mean you any harm. The house is Tanya's and her families, Kate and Garret, along with Carmen and Eleazar. My family's currently visiting, Alice and Jasper, Rosalie and Emmett, Carlisle and Esme. There is one member of the family, she is special. She is also the one that has been imprinted on." I pause watching them, gaging their reactions. "My daughter, she is unique."
"That's what I can feel. I can tell you're somehow connected with an imprint. She's underage, that's why you asked about how to break an imprint you want to break it." Lisa's mind is racing as my words sink in. "I guess that right there shows we should be able to trust you, you haven't killed the wolf that imprinted on your daughter. How old is she?"
"She is technically under a year old. But looks to be about four in human years. The story is complicated, I can fill you in on it if you come inside. According to my sister the storm will be a whiteout, not an ideal place to talk." After a few more moments they all agree to come inside, Cass and Tiffany agreeing to shift.
They're all a bit nervous as they follow me into the house. But I'm happy to see everyone trying to look calm and welcoming towards them as I make introductions. "And this here is my daughter Elizabeth." I say last as she runs to me, she's always unsure about meeting new people.
"Its lovely to meet you, welcome to my home." Tanya says extending her hand for a handshake, that Cass kindly accepts.
"OH." Cass gives a cry of surprise. "I'm sorry I didn't realize you're also a succubus."
"A what?" Tanya asked pulling back her hand.
"You're unaware. But you should have noticed by now, un attached men run to do your bidding. You can get any man you want as long as his heart isn't taken." Lisa's words cause Tanya to laugh.
"OK you had me going there. But I have been turned down before, by someone unattached. So I can't be a succubus like you're saying." Tanya says moments away from demanding the wolves leave. She's thinking about me, about how I have turned down her advances. Years before I met Bella, then again right after coming into contact with Bella. But what Tanya doesn't know is that strange whisper in her mind that has always been off putting.
"Say you're right, could someone be immune to a succubus?" I ask, not wanting to hurt Tanya's feelings but catching Cass thoughts about being sure on what she felt.
"I um I'm not sure. From everything we've learned a succubus…. A Succubus twists the mind to its bidding. You're a mind reader." Once Lisa says this everyone's minds practically explode with theories.
Tanya is practically frozen. 'Edward, I…. I never knew that I had some sort of power like that. I'm sorry.' I could feel her dislike of the thought that she's ever caused anyone to do something they wouldn't want to.
"Tanya, I'm sorry I should have mentioned it sooner. But I was never sure what it was, so I never brought it up. I think Lisa is right, my ability has caused me to be immune to your succubus power. In the past there's often a shadow present in your mind. Like a whisper that can't be grasped." I didn't want her to feel bad. Especially because her unknown power never worked on me anyways.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to cause anything." Cass inputs, feeling embarrassed. And a bit worried that they'd be asked to leave just as the storm starts to pound the house.
"You're ok Cass, we can tell you didn't want to cause anything and no harm has been done." I say trying to reassure her and the others.
Everyone's thoughts are running wild, my own thoughts are running. Wondering the power a succubus would have if I couldn't read her thoughts.
