Chapter 2: Consequences
Marcy didn't know how to feel. Relieved that she was back on Earth and out of danger? Worried that her parents would make her move still? Or maybe… guilty. Anne was most likely dead because of Marcy!
Dead.
Marcy felt sick to her stomach.
Not most likely dead.
Anne was dead.
She had 0% chance of survival.
And it was Marcy who caused it.
Stupid, stupid, stupid!
She was supposed to be the smart one! But it was her who caused them to be in Amphibia in the first place! She was responsible for the death of her very first friend!
Stupid.
"Ahh! What is that thing!?" Sprig's voice cut through her thoughts and brought her back to reality. He was watching a plane fly through the sky.
"What is that thing?!" Polly yelled, pointing at a wacky waving arm inflatable tube man.
Marcy fumbled trying to find the right words, "I- I can't- Oh wow- I'm home?!"
"This is where you guys came from? It's so… loud!" Sprig had to yell the last part to get over the noise of the freeway.
Freeway.
AW CRUD!
Marcy hurried them off the road and got them to a city square.
She looked around. It looked like Earth. But she had to be sure. She didn't know what universe they were in.
I mean of course she had input the coordinates to take her to Earth, but according to her calculations there were more than an infinite number of universes in the multiverse. She could have put in an incorrect number by complete accident.
But no. This was Earth. She knew it. Same way she always knew the answer to any quiz. Why might you ask?
Her phone had reception.
"WOOOOOOOOAHHH!" Sprig gazed up in awe before falling over. Marcy had forgotten how high skyscrapers really went. The castle looked puny compared to it!
Wait skyscrapers? Why was she wasting brainpower on skyscrapers?! Anne had just been stabbed for pete's sake!
A sickening thought filled Marcy's mind. Where were they gonna stay?
Her parents were just going to make her move and then the Plantars wouldn't be coming with her. Sasha's parents would most likely call her parents no matter which one they went to. That just left one more family.
Anne's.
How could Marcy break the news to them that Anne was dead? How did she know that they wouldn't also call Marcy's parents? So many questions ran through her head that it hurt.
But she had to take a leap of faith.
She pulled the Plantars along as she walked to Anne's home. It was so strange to be back on Earth especially without Anne.
Polly of course had her mind preoccupied by her new legs.
Sprig was fascinated by everything on Earth like all the buttons everywhere. Of course his short attention span would make him not be thinking about how Anne was most likely dead. Especially without Anne.
Polly of course wasn't thinking about stuff like that. She seemed preoccupied with her new legs.
Ugh. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead.
"So what's our next move Marcy?" Hop Pop's voice cut through Marcy's thoughts. "What about Anne? Do you think she's..?" He continued with obvious worry in his voice.
"She's alive. She just has to be." Marcy wanted so badly to believe these words, but she knew they couldn't be true. But she wanted the Plantars to keep being hopeful. And maybe their hope could strengthen her own.
In almost no time, she was there. Anne's house.
"So it's too early to call them Mom and Dad. Should I call them Mrs. and Mr. Boonchuy? Are they tongue shake people?" Sprig asked. Did he really think he would be like there adopted son?
Well whatever he thought, Marcy couldn't just waltz up to Anne's parents and say, "Hi! I know we went missing for 5 months and you probably thought we were dead but here's some major truth bombs! We were in another world and the aliens of that world are here with me! And on top of that, after crazy blue powers showed up in Anne, she literally got stabbed in the heart and is probably dead. And I got us trapped in that world on purpose! Mind if we stay?"
No. She had to ease them into it slowly and maybe withhold some information. Like the fact that Anne was probably dead. And had powers. And that a honking invasion was on the way.
Wow.
Marcy had the Plantars hide in the trash cans saying, "You stay here. I'm gonna ease them into all of this slowly. I'm not going tell them a few things like Anne being stabbed, me getting us trapped there, Sasha's betrayal, the invasion on the way, or Anne's anime glowing blue powers! That's a lot but telling them those things will just get you guys sent to the FBI to be dissected. Now don't come out till you hear me say, CAW CAW! Don't come out until you hear that."
The Plantars agreed
Marcy went up to the door and hesitated…
But then she knocked.
