The view from the beach was breathtakingly beautiful. It was just as Prompto had imagined it to be, but it was even more than that. He had seen countless pictures and videos of Galdin Quay, but being there in person really set the bar high.
Of course, Scarlet wasn't there to marvel at the beauty. As soon as she saw the beach, that was all her mind became locked on to.
"I told you Scarlet, we need to get to our hotel room first. Then we can go walk around the beach."
"And swim?"
"Maybe swim. Gotta see how the weather holds up."
"Okay… but I wanna swim!"
Prompto chuckled. "We'll have time, even if we don't swim today, okay? Does that make sense, Scarlet?"
Scarlet nodded, staying right by Prompto's side as they were checked in. After getting keycards, Prompto headed to the room along with Noctis while Gladio and Ignis got all of their luggage.
Once they entered the room, Scarlet excitedly ran to one of the big, comfy beds and flopped onto it.
"Looks like she's already having fun," Noctis chuckled.
"Oh the joys of being a kid, finding the excitement in everything," Prompto chuckled.
"It's a super fluffy bed!" Scarlet proclaimed.
"I bet it is, now once uncle Iggy and Gladio are here, we can go explore!"
Scarlet grinned as she rolled across the bed. "Yay! Beach time!"
Prompto shook his head. "Almost, just a little more waiting."
Thankfully, Ignis and Gladio came with their suitcases. Prompto took the one that had his clothes and Scarlets and opened it up to get the swimwear out. As he prepared everything, Scarlet was jumping around excitedly, bouncing up and down on the bed until she was grabbed by Gladio.
"Unca Glaido nooooo!" she laughed, trying to squirm out of his arms.
"No escaping me this time, Scarlet," he chuckled.
Scarlet laughed, still trying her hardest to try and get away. Prompto grinned as he watched Gladio play around with Scarlet. He was glad Gladio was around, being the most experienced with little kids due to Iris. There was no competition between the three, as he knew Scarlet loved them all equally, but Gladio was on the top for being the most playful with Scarlet. Ignis and Noctis had their strengths however, with Ignis really enjoying reading stories to her, and Noctis enjoyed playing with her with her toys.
"Okay, time to get your swimsuit on, Scarlet. Let's go," prompto said as he walked into the bathroom.
Scarlet was finally freed from Gladio and she jumped off the bed running to the bathroom to get changed. Minutes later, once everyone changed into the swim gear, Prompto started applying sunscreen to Scarlet as they headed down to the beach.
"Swimming!" Scarlet chanted happily.
"And sand castle building. Doesn't that sound fun? We could build a big castle!"
Scarlet nodded. "Yeah! And I can help!"
Prompto laughed. "Of course you can, we gotta do it together!"
As soon as they got outside, letting the warm weather surround them, Scarlet was already ready to start running off. Right away they headed down the pier and onto the shore where Scarlet happily chased the waves back and forth. She giggled happily as she did her best to try and outrun the waves all while Prompto started snappily away with his water proof camera.
"Dada! Chase me!" Scarlet said at one point. "You have to chase me!"
"Chase you? Okay, let me just set the camera down."
A moment later Prompto happily chased after Scarlet, who despite her small size was running very fast. She ran back and forth across the shore, and just when Prompto thought he was going to capture her, she slipped away and kept on running.
"Unca Noct, you chase me!" she said as she ran over to Noctis, who was resting on a beach towel.
"But isn't Prompto already chasing you?"
"Chase me too!" she said again, grinning happily.
Prompto ran up behind her, grabbing her and causing a happy squeal of delight. "Gotcha! And sorry Noct, if Scarlet says you have to chase her, you gotta do it."
"Fine…"
"Better start running, Scarlet, 'cause I was just getting comfy!"
Together, Noctis and Prompto chase Scarlet across the shore for several minutes, with the toddler never once stopping to catch her breath.
"How does… she keep going…" Noctis huffed.
"I have no idea, honestly," Prompto said as he slowed down to keep pace with Noctis. He wasn't as worn out, but he wouldn't deny it that he was a little tired.
"It's like she has… infinite energy…"
Prompto smiled. "Well, that's a good thing! It means she'll be able to go on runs with her old man!"
"Until she outruns you," Noctis snorted.
"Hey! I won't complain about that! Now come on, she's waiting for us to never actually capture her."
Noctis groaned. "I didn't come to the beach to get exercise."
Later on, when both Noctis and Prompto had enough running and chasing, they finally went to make a sand castle.
"Alright, Scarlet, can you fill this up with lots of sand? We need even more to make the castle."
"Uh-huh! I can fill it up!" Scarlet beamed as she picked up her shovel. She then stood up, grabbing her pail before running down to the shore where the other three were.
As Prompto worked on making sturdy sand walls, he heard some giggles coming from nearby. When he lifted his head, he saw a couple of young women looking his way, they smiled when he saw them before whispering to one another.
"Finally putting your traits to good use I see."
Prompto turned to his side, seeing Gladio had brought some pails of wet sand. "What traits?"
Gladio tilted his head directly to the side, in the direction of the two women. "The ladies. They all dig a young, hot, single dad."
Prompto felt his face growing warm, and he knew it wasn't because of the sun. "D-dude!"
Gladio smirked. "What? It's true. You got a kid who you are great with, and are clearly single, so the chics love it."
"But that's not something you just say to a guy! I'm not trying to use a 'single dad trait' or anything!"
"You ever think about it though? Eventually marrying so Scarlet has a mother?"
Prompto sighed, looking down at the sand. "I dunno… I don't usually think about that stuff. On one had, yeah, it would be nice if she had a mom. But, I'm not just going to go and get married just for that reason. I need to marry for myself too, y'know."
Gladio shook his head. "Hey, I didn't say you shouldn't. Just curious what you thought about it."
"Well, I don't know entirely. I'm happy right now with what I got… Scarlet's happy. We're all happy, so I don't know if I want to change things. Maybe one day… but not right now."
He had given it some thought before, knowing one day Scarlet would probably ask about not having a mother. He knew there would have to be a time when he had to explain it all, but for now he was content with how things were. There were plenty of people out there that were single parents, King Regis included!
"Alright, sorry if I pushed you, Blondie."
"It's fine, but uh hey, good to know that I can impress the ladies in another way!"
"Another?" Gladio laughed. "What were you doing before to impress them?"
Prompto pouted angrily. "Quit it! We're trying to make a sand castle here and you're supposed to be helping!"
"I brought the sand, didn't I?" Gladio asked, holding up the pails.
"Yeah! Now stop hogging it and let's really get this castle cooking!"
By the time the day was done, and the sun was setting, the group had packed up everything and walked back to the room. Scarlet was a bit sad, but Prompto promised to take her again the next day.
Once they were in their hotel room, Noctis was the first to flop down on the bed. "Ugh… I'm so exhausted. I could sleep right here."
Letting go of Prompto's hand, Scarlet ran up, pulling herself onto the bed before poking Noctis. "Wake up!"
Noctis opened one eye. "What?"
"Wake up," Scarlet repeated. "No sleeping!"
"What… But I'm tired," Noctis mumbled, closing his eyes again.
"No! Wake up!" Scarlet laughed.
"No…" Noctis replied.
She started poking him again. "No sleeping, Unca Noct!"
Much to Prompto's surprise, he heard Ignis start to laugh. "It seems she's found yet another new game, though I don't think she will win this one."
"Yeah? You don't think she can manage to keep him from dozing before he gets into his pjs?"
"Noct has quite the sleepy reputation, it would be a miracle if Scarlet could pull it off."
"Well, her energy hasn't stopped yet, so who knows!"
"She is rather lively, I was having a hard time keeping up near the end," Ignis mused.
Prompto smiled, walking to the bed and picking up Scarlet. "Come on, let the guy sleep. And you should too, once we've cleaned you up and had some dinner."
"But, I don't wanna! Can't we play more?"
"Nah, it's sleep time. Everyone's tired because of all the fun."
Scarlet pouted. "But more fun tomorrow?"
Prompto gave her a warm squeeze. "Totally. That's what this vacation is for!"
