She had to let them know she was ok. It had been two days. But she secretly hoped the well would not react to her. She pulled on her light blue skirt and adjusted her navy turtleneck before jumping over the lip of the well.
The well greeted her with magic; the past still wanted her back.
She landed softly and looked up and waited. True enough, Inuyasha offered his hand. One day she would look up, and he wouldn't be there, but he told her not to worry; that would be a long, long time from now.
Inuyasha helped her up, and her eye greeted Kikyo, who stood behind him.
"We were starting to worry," Kikyo stated,
"Sorry,"
"Don't apologize,"
She looked down. "How did it go?"
"We left," Kikyo spoke,
"You didn't stay?" Kagome looked at Inuyasha. "Was he mad you left?"
"K, like the jerk cares, come on, Sango and Miroku are waiting,"
She nodded and made their way back.
The trees here also turned orange and brown, and there was a nice chill in the air. Kaede was making stew, and they all warmly greeted her.
They sat around a fire as the sky turned from pinks and oranges to navy.
Kaede passed out the soup, and for the most part, they sat in silence, all sitting on logs.
Kagome stared into the fire, watching the flames dance.
Miroku cleared his throat. "He noticed, you know,"
Kagome didn't hear him,
"Kagome?" Sango touched her arm making Kagome look at them, "Hu?"
"Sesshomaru noticed you were not there,"
Kikyo didn't think it was a good idea to tell her, but they knew her better than she did. But she did warn them that it was best not to tell Kagome that they told him her feelings. Though they were doing what they thought best, it may not sit well with Kagome and would likely result in her coming less and less. They agreed not to tell her. Of course, that left Sesshomaru. But they doubted he would say anything. Cruel, he could be, but it would serve no purpose.
Kagome looked down at her bowl, unsure what to think about that.
"Speaking of the devil," Inuyasha said quietly. Kagome knew instantly, and her tummy flopped, and her grip on her bowl tightened.
"She's with him," Inuyasha hated to admit, but he wanted Kagome to know.
Kagome stared at the fire and lifted her bowl to her lips, unable to look up just yet.
Sesshomaru stood close and looked at them all. Miroku looked up. "To what do we owe this pleasure, you two?"
"K," Inuyasha cut short, making Kikyo elbow him.
"Winter draws near," He stated
"You came all the way here to tell us that?" Inuyasha asked,
Kagome still did not look up,
"You belong in the West, though you did once again abandon my side,"
Inuyasha jumped up "Oi!-
Kikyo yanked him back down,
"My mother is quiet instant,"
"I don't give a damn about your mother asshole,"
"Inuyasha," Kagome bit out, looking at him. She was quite fond of his mother, oddly enough.
Sesshomaru looked at her. "My mother was most displeased at your lack of presence, Miko,"
Kagome swallowed and finally drew her eyes to him, and he didn't miss how her eyes darted for a mere second at the woman next to him.
Interesting indeed.
"I didn't even think anyone would notice," She said more to herself than anyone else.
Needing to save her, Miroku quickly spoke up, "So you want Inuyasha and Kikyo to come back West?"
"The four lords are coming together; it is past time for the lands to be ruled as they once were," The demoness spoke.
Kagome wanted to not like her, but it wasn't her fault, just like it wasn't Kikyos fault. Kagome sighed inside, setting her bowl down. She sounded so smart and formal. Kagome frowned at herself on the inside. The whole time she was dropping hints to Sesshomaru, not once did she think of what it would mean to be Lady of the West. But now that she thought about it, she would have made of horrible lady.
"What does that have to do with me," Inuyasha asked, not at all caring.
The demoness moved her eyes to him. "You are his one and only brother,"
"Half-brother," Inuyasha corrected,
"It matters not," She said,
"K, really, because up until now, it has mattered; oi you gonna let her do all the talking?"
"Regardless of feelings, Inuyasha, you are of our father's blood,"
"Don't care,"
"You should," Sesshomaru snapped,
"Yeah, well, I'm not coming,"
"I expected nothing less from you," Sesshomaru stated,
"Then why did you come?!"
The truth was, he came to see Kagome. To feel her out, to see what everyone else claimed to see, but so far, she hardly looked at him. She sat in what seemed to be, distraction.
