Chapter 31
Marinette giggled as Luka swore at the bread dough he was attempting to knead. He turned to shoot her an annoyed look which just made her laugh more.
"I fail to see how this is funny," he groaned
"It isn't funny it is freaking hilarious," Marinette laughed
"Hold on isn't that Nadja?" Luka said turning to glance at the TV behind them
"Yeah it is hold on," Marinette said grabbing the remote. She quickly turned the volume up.
"Don't be bemused it's just the news. This is Nadja Chamack reporting for TVI news. We are reporting live outside the studio. As you can see behind me the studio is currently under the control of Hawkmoth himself. What could this madman want you ask? He is demanding the guardian of the miraculous come to the studio within the next 20 minutes or he will kill anyone trapped inside"
Marinette glanced at Luka before turning the TV off.
"What if it is a trap," he asked warily
"Then I expect my team to back me up," she said bluntly as she called for Tikki.
She arrived at the studio fifteen minutes later. She walked past the cameras and reporters straight into the studio. She waited a moment inside the doorway for Hawkmoth to acknowledge her.
"I am here," Ladybug says
"I don't want you I need the guardian," Hawkmoth said as he approached her
"I am the guardian," Ladybug says "The master passed down the responsibility and title to me a week ago"
"Very well you need to come with me"
"Why"
"She needs your help"
"Who Mayura or your wife?"
"Both"
"Very well bring me to them"
He leads her to a waiting car. The car had been hidden beyond the reporter's sight. She gets in and watches him hesitate
"I know who you are, just get in"
"Right," he nods warily, "I am sorry. If you save them then I will willingly hand over the miraculous and turn myself in,"
"Just bring me to her," Ladybug said studying him
Marinette transformed as Ladybug followed Gabriel through his office and down into his lair. She didn't say a single word as she followed him. He paused in front of what appeared to be a glass coffin a first glance as she studied it she realized what it was. She sighed pulling out her Yoyo.
"I only asked for you," he glared
"She is beyond my cure," she said bluntly, "however the other guardians at the temple have dealt with this before. They will be able to help. I can promise you she will recover fully."
"Okay," he nodded
She quickly dialed Max informing him of the situation and asking him to open a portal from her location to the temple. Seconds later the portal opened.
"Where is Natalie?" she asked
"I just asked her to come down," he said softly
Once Natalie arrived she told him to grab his wife and go through the portal. He did as she said and the three of them stepped through the portal.
"Grand Guardian," a monk greeted, "Come we have prepared a room for your guests. We will begin treatment right away. Where is the broken miraculous,"
Natalie handed it over and the monk nodded directing them to follow. They followed as he led them to a room. He gestured for Emilie to be laid on the bed before directing Natalie to the other bed.
"This will take several days," the monk informed them, "I will summon you when it is done,"
"I wish to stay," Gabriel said
"Very well," the monk nodded
"I will await your call," Marinette shrugged before sending Max another message and stepping through the new portal.
Once she was clear and the portal closed she dropped her transformation. She quickly sent a message to all the holders. Moments later another portal opened and the entire miraculous team stepped through. Once everyone was there. Marinette explained what happened.
"Okay," Alya said, "but umm we should probably address the media…i mean he did take over TVI studio…and the press is going crazy cuz you didn't walk out of there…"
"Okay, so what should we say?" Adrien asked
"So we make it simple," Alya sighed, "Just tell them that Hawkmoth has surrendered. He has been taken into custody at an undisclosed location and you will give them more information at a later time,"
"Got it," Marinette nodded before transforming, "Chat let's go,"
Ladybug and Chat Nior landed in front of the media swarm outside the studio. Several reporters immediately noticed them and surrounded them asking questions. Ladybug raised her hand silencing them all.
"As of an hour ago Hawkmoth surrendered," she stated clearly, raising her hand to silence them all, "We have taken him into custody at this time. He is awaiting judgment at one of a thousand Miraculous temples. Once he had been judged by the order we will set up another press conference to talk about it all. For now, Paris, celebrate because the reign of Hawkmoth is over,"
"Can you tell us who it is?" "Why was he doing this?" "What did he hope to gain?"
Questions were thrown at them left and right. Ladybug once again held up her hand silencing them.
"We cannot answer any more questions at this time. We will make an official announcement when we are able to," Chat said
They waved everyone off and took off.
