Chapter 4:
Absolute silence reigned in the Wizengament Chamber. While many had given the thought to what James Potter had said no one had ever had the gall to say it out loud. But here and now the younger generation was standing up to the ideals of the older one. There were those of a Darker nature who felt that Dumbledore's time had come and gone. But he also had the political clout to stay in power. Now there was someone not from the dark, but someone who was raised in the Light calling the old man out. But what most forgot was that James' mother was a Black. Dorea Potter nea Black had been a powerful woman. She had fallen in love with Charles Potter and had basically thumbed her nose at them. But that didn't mean that she had given up all their ideals. No, James Potter was raised by both Light and Dark. Very few realized that Lily Potter was just as grey as her husband.
Once she and James had married Dorea had taken the muggleborn witch under her wing and began her education of blackmail. While James worked for the Department of Mysteries with Sirius Black, it was Lily that was his partner behind the scenes. Every tip that he told his boss came from either Lily or his mother. They were always accurate. He missed them both very much.
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Dumbledore was speechless. No one had told him that he had been wrong since the days of Gellart.
"I beg your pardon?"
"I said that YOU WERE WRONG!" James Potter stood there, defiant as ever. But he wasn't done.
"You were wrong, and you knew it! You sent my heir someplace that he was never supposed to go to. To be raised like a house elf. To look up to you as his savior when you would allow him to return to his heritage."
Dumbledore was still speechless. How had the boy learned all of that.
"Well?"
Dumbledore shook himself. There was no answer that would appease the boy. A little misdirection would be needed.
"My sealing of your and your wife's wills was for your son's protection. I will be willing to discuss this with you in a more private setting as the nature of that information is a State Secret and can only be discussed by those in the know."
"You mean that so called prophecy from the slush that you have hired as the Divination Instructor at Hogwarts?"
"Such THINGS are not to be discussed without the security of special wards!" thundered Dumbledore. "AURORS! Arrest this man for Sedition and Treason!" That should get things back to what they were.
"HOLD!" Another voice shouted over the chaos of the Wizengament. Madam Amelia Bones stood up.
"Madam Bones! You heard him! Such information is considered a State Secret! He has broken the law!" stated a smug Dumbledore.
"His Grace did no such thing."
"Were you not in the room when he made that statement? The Record Keeper would be happy to allow you to read the offending statement."
"I was in the room."
"Then I insist you do your duty!"
"I cannot arrest His Grace as he revealed nothing that we didn't already know."
"Excuse Me?"
"You seem to forget that you, yourself, told this body that due to a prophecy made about You-Know-Who and His Grace the younger, was what gave you the power to seal the will and claim guardianship over the child. So where has His Grace broken the law?"
Albus Dumbledore was stunned. Again. How in the bloody hell had that woman remembered that, specifically that? But the witch was far from done.
"As I see it, Chief Warlock, you pushed those laws to almost the breaking point. So, if anyone should be charged as such it should be you."
Chaos reigned down.
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
James Potter could barely hide his smirk at the dumbfounded Dumbledore. Regent Bones seemed to have been waiting for years to say something like that. As the chaos continued a plan began to form. One that would hurt the old man where it hurt the most. His "fiefdom", or what other people call Hogwarts. To pull Harry out of the 'premier' school for magic would hurt the old man. But if several prominent heirs did then that might cause a shakeup. One look at the old man and James had made up his mind. Harry and a few young heirs would not be going to Hogwarts. That thought would have to wait. He needed to get things back on track.
"ENOUGH!" It was said years later that James Power literally glowed with power in that instant. His glare at the Chief warlock would have sent any sane person screaming for his mummy. He raised his wand in the air.
"I, James Edward Charles Potter, Duke of Wales, Duke of Gryffindor, Viscount Potter, Regent Black, and Regent Baron of Slytherin call for a vote of no confidence in Albus Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, Cornelius Fudge and his staff, including his advisors. I ask that such a vote be done immediately. After which each be tried for bribery, conspiracy, and line theft."
That shut them up. For all of two minutes before chaos resumed. But at least the room sealed itself blocking those that tried to escape, um leave. A chuckle escaped.
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Martin Tremaine had been relatively a nobody. He lived a quiet life, married to a wonderful woman, with whom he had three children. Two girls and a boy. He had worked his way up from the bottom in the ministry, working in various departments until he had found his calling. No one could say that he wasn't good at his job. That job, head of the Records Department, now put him in a strong position to do something.
James Potter had both just returned from the dead, not just turn the entire Ministry on its backside, but had nominated him as the new Chief Warlock. Why? He never had thought of attaining such a position. But in the time that he was thinking of saying why he couldn't he had been voted in. Him. What was going on?
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
James nearly laughed out loud. The look on Martin's face was hilarious. He could almost read the mind of the other wizard. His mother's information on the man had been spot on. Croaker had given the man the same endorsement. No one, absolutely no one knew the laws better than Martin Tremaine. That he had no political ambition and an unwavering moral compass. He was perfect for the job.
Within the hour the man was sworn in and some order was restored. Trials were arranged, starting with Sirius Black's, before moving on to those that had been voted out. Dumbledore was given house arrest of sorts at Hogwarts. Fudge, Malfoy, a simpering woman named Delores Umbridge, Thaddeus Nott, Walden McNair, and a few that James barely remembered their names were sent to the holding cells of the Department of Magical Law. If things go his way that's where they would stay.
It was time to go home to Harry.
