Chapter 9:

Emma Granger sighed as she lay in her bed. The day had been such a topsy turvy one. Her 'escape' to the park with Hermione had started out as normal. But the ending was one that she had been dreaming about for years.

Daniel Granger was a very charismatic man. They had met as both had entered university. From the moment he had met her, Daniel, not Dan, pursued the naive Emma with a force that had taken her breath away. Acting the perfect gentleman, he never showed his true colors till it was too late. Her parents had loved him and actively pushed for a short engagement. They married a mere six months after meeting.

At first their married life was wonderful. But slowly she learned about the 'secret' to her husband and his family. Dan was what the magical society called a squib. His parents had very little magic. Dan's father, Simon, actively hated the magical community because he didn't have enough magic to attend their premier school. Dan had been raised to actively hate magic.

It was that had caused a change in their marriage. Her pregnancy with Hermione had been hard. From birth she had shown a strong magical power, one that Dan was jealous of. The child was punished for every small infraction. Both hers and Hermione's life became a living hell. Every time she tried to break free, someone would foil her plans and she would have to start over. That was until today. Remus Lupin had saved both of them. Their knight in shining armor.

That thought settled her mind and for the first time she fell asleep unafraid.

HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

It had been two weeks since the Granger girls came into their lives. Remus wondered how they had gotten on without them before. Emma Granger had brought a feminine aspect that was sadly lacking in their lives. She had blossomed into motherly love for both boys, who needed it. Hermione had slowly opened up to all of them. Emma had explained her life with Hermione's father, who Remus had discovered was the great grandson of Hector Dagworth-Granger, a famous potioneer. He had reached out to Thomas, Hecter's son, and learned that both Simon and Daniel had been removed from the family legacy, not because of being a squib or near squib but because of their control issues. The family was slowly going insane. Hermione showed no signs of it but both he and James would be watching.

Another sigh escaped as he felt the wards welcome their master home. James had been asked to help in an emergency in the middle of the night. It seemed that Selene Lovegood had died in a miscasted spell. Her daughter had been in the room with her. Xeno had found them both after returning from working and went crazy with grief. He had scared the little girl so much that she had called for help through the floo to anyone who was listening. James had been working in his study when the frantic call had been sent. He went to the home to see what help he could do.

Remus made his way into James' study. One look at his friends' face told him that the news wasn't good. Especially with the little blonde girl in his arms.

"Prongs?"

"Meet Luna Lovegood Mooney."

Remus smiled at the little girl who hid her face in James' neck. James reached up and rubbed Luna's back.

"Selene died horribly. Whatever spell she was working on was powerful. Xeno went insane and tried to kill himself."

Remus Sucked in his breath. One did not try to kill ones' self for any reason. Magic was rather strict in that way.

"He's still alive but he's been placed in St Mungo's for everyone's safety. The Ministry has given me custody of Luna."

Remus nodded and held the door as James walked by with his newest ward.

HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Luna Lovegood was a quiet lonely little girl. She missed her mummy and her daddy. The man that came in answer of her call was her savior. She refused to let him out of her sight. She even slept with him and the two little boys that he had. The other little girl, Hermione, sat with her, read to her and talked to her. Not that she answered. Slowly she came out of her shell, finally breaking at dinner one night. Hermione's mother held her and whispered softly in her ear. After that breakdown she began playing and talking to the other children. Three other girls joined the unusual classes. Daphne and Astoria Greengrass, a young Italian boy named Blaise Zabini, and Susan Bones. They came during the day for lessons with Mr. Lupin. Slightly younger than most of them she had no trouble keeping up and even ventured a few answers. Although not home, this place was nice.

James sat in the Potter seat in the Wizengament. Final it was trial day for those that had wronged him and his house. He had no doubt that of all those on trial most wouldn't see time in Azkaban, but he was going to try. Of all Dumbledore would be the hardest to see justice done but he wasn't the Duke of Wales for nothing. He had an ace up his sleeve for the wily wizard.
