Chapter Two

Before Hank could suggest anything, a loud explosion rented the air. Stumbling backwards, he slammed into the brick wall behind him. Spiderman flipped over to stand in front of him, quickly webbing up several of the supervillains. "Are you alright there?"

Hank coughed, his insides aching at the simple gesture as he hauled himself back to his feet. "Yeah... fine. Let's just wrap this up already."

"Agreed!" Spiderman waved his hand through the air, as if to clear away the dust from the explosion. "Any ideas on how to do that? I have places to be and whatnot."

Hank gave a quick nod in acknowledgement on that, before turning his attention to the problem at hand. "Let me see if I can't talk them down..."

"Dude... you can't talk everyone down. Some people just refuse to listen." Spiderman shook his head at the older hero.

"Worth a shot if you ask me." Hank shrugged, before striding forward, his gaze latched onto the Serpentine Society's leader. "Just watch. It's gonna work. I made great progress with these guys before the Big Breakout."

Spiderman slapped his face, realizing that Hank really was being a bit too stubborn about this to be of any use. "I guess saving the day is up to me then... where are the other Avengers?"

"Uh... they're working on something for S.H.E.I.L.D." Hank evaded the question, even as he suddenly realized that he couldn't quite remember what it was that Fury had asked them to do.

"Okay." Spiderman flipped over Hank, quickly knocking another villain down before he could succeed in knocking the Avenger out. "So we have an arachnid and a pacifist to stop this crime in its tracks... no problem I've worked with less before!"

Anya drummed her fingers as she stared at the whiteboard. Miles was gave off a soft snort as he jerked away for the tenth time since class started. She would know, she's been counting. Mrs. Salud turned to face the class, finally noticing that her students were falling asleep during her important lecture on mental and emotional health. Crossing her arms, she leveled a stern glare at the bored teenagers. "Does anyone here know what signs there are to look for in situations that someone needs rescued from?"

There was a thud as someone's elbow slipped from propping up their head for the past half hour. Anya glanced around, hoping against hope that someone knew the answer to that one. Mrs. Salud sighed, before pointing to the whiteboard. "Have any of you written down any of the notes that I just went over?"

Anya shifted slightly, before glancing down at her notes that she had been dutifully writing down. Having not paid any attention to the notes as she jotted them down, she scanned them carefully... a gasp escaped her as one note in particular jumped out at her. "One can become a selective mute due to traumatic events or fear of retaliation from their abuser." Anya swallowed hard, her mouth suddenly very dry as she stared at that tidbit of information.

"Very good Miss Chavez." Mrs. Salud clapped her hands, relief flashing in her eyes. "I see that at least one person is paying attention to this class. I recommend that the rest of you join her. This could easily show up on the final."

Groans rippled through the class at that, heads dropping down to the hard desks with a solid thump. Anya stared at the notes, rereading what she had written down about selective muteness. One with this may feel comfortable in certain situations to actually use their voice. A bad feeling settled deep inside of her, even as she pulled out her cellphone, careful to keep her health instructor from seeing it as she typed out a hurried message. What are the chances that Parker is a selective mute? She pressed send, hoping that one of her friends might respond sooner rather than later.

"Well... that was fun! See you around Ant-man!" Spiderman shot a piece of webbing out, quickly webslinging away from the exhausted Avenger.

"Hank! Sorry we're la... why is Spiderman leaving? We're supposed to arrest him! Fury's orders!" Wasp showed up right then, the other Avengers right behind him.

Hank slapped his forehead, a groan escaping him. "I knew I was forgetting something!"

Tony shook his head, glancing in the direction that Spiderman had just disappeared in. "So... what exactly did we miss anyways?"

"Nothing much. Spidey and I did a team up to stop the Serpentine Society." Hank shrugged, not really seeing the big deal.

Clint tapped his bow against his knee, a frown crossing his features. "How exactly are we supposed to stop Spiderman... when anytime one of us is close enough to him he's trying to stop another crime from happening?"

"Who knows." Tony shrugged, even as Hulk grunted as he shifted slightly where he was at.

"He did said something about having somewhere to be." Hank hummed, suddenly wondering if that was important.

The owner of the business that was just trashed walked out, looking slightly annoyed. "You should have stopped Spiderman. He took off with close to two hundred dollars worth of my money."

"Oops."

Peter bounced nervously on the balls of his feet as he watched as the leader of some gang, he never really paid much attention to which one it was, counted out the stolen money that he had just finished stealing. A grunt escaped him as he suddenly moved, shoving past Peter rather roughly. "You're lucky that you got all of your rent in. Guess we don't have to chase you off just yet."

Peter silently sighed with relief, before almost sprinting for it, slipping into an abandoned apartment building that appeared to be falling apart. Moving carefully through the debris littered halls, and stairways, he made his way to the upper-floor. Yanking open a rusty door close to the rundown, disused elevator, he stepped inside to find that it was exactly as he had left it. Meaning an old falling apart couch with ripped cushions sitting in the living room, basically empty cupboards with food, a mostly finished jar of peanut butter and a loaf of bread that appeared to be growing mold... and so much dust it wasn't even funny.

Finding that he was too tired to care for a bit to eat, he collapsed onto the coach, his eyes already sliding shut. There was no way that a little nap was going to cause him too much trouble.

A/N: Time for Reviews!

hitomyemail: Hi! Um... yeah. I squeezed in a scene with Anya in here that should help clarify that up nicely.

Chai Chandler: Thank you! Got the idea from... quite a few Avenger crossovers with Spiderman. The movies not the cartoons... which is why I'm doing it with the cartoons. That and I know the cartoon versions better than the live action versions.

fairy1: Your wish is granted! And wow... amazing masterpiece? Really? I didn't think it was that good... but I'll take it!
