Chapter Four:
Peter shoved the last of his stolen money across the register towards the cashier. The young man with way too many pimples merely wrinkled his nose briefly, before counting out the cash. A moment later, he handed over the exact change, four dollars and thirty cents. Pocketing the change, Peter darted out of the store, his newly bought and paid for items clutched tightly to his chest. Moving quickly, he made a beeline for home. Well, that was the plan originally. Why Anya and friends were hovering near the store in the first place was not a mystery to him at all. In her determination to make friends with him, she decided that all of their plans were going to be follow Peter around and constantly ask if he needed help with anything. To say he was annoyed was an understatement. Shaking his head at them, he debated not going home just yet, loose them first so that they don't see the pitiful condition the apartment he lived in was in. They might end up calling social services and he definitely didn't need that.
"Where to next? Now that we've been to the grocery store and to a electronic thrift store." Miles rolled his eyes, giving Anya a look as he did so.
Anya glared at him, before turning to face Peter. "Well?"
Peter bit his bottom lip, feeling the pressure to finish the debate within himself now... or suffer the consequences. Biting his bottom lip, he pulled out a notebook and quickly scribbled out a message for them. Just need to get these groceries home.
"Finally." Harry sounded a little too relieved at that announcement.
Gwen and Anya both whacked him in the back of the head at that. Gwen then planted a smile on her face as she turned to face him. "How about we all go to your place to work on our group project?"
Actually, I just had a brilliant idea that would prevent the government getting involved. I'll take my groceries home. Let's meet up at Harry's place since he has more things available than the rest of us.
"He's got a point there." Harry was definitely not pleased to agree with Peter on that note.
Before Peter could write anything else, Miles was helping Gwen drag the protesting Anya away, Harry casually following after his friends. Relieved to be alone once more, Peter darted off in the direction of the gang ran area of town that he unfortunately called home.
He really should have seen that this was going to happen. After putting everything away, and giving Arahna the scratches that she was begging for, he had bolted out of the building knowing that he was going to be late for the meet up. Maybe someone should have told the wrecking crew not to go on a rampage just now. Spiderman flipped over Thunderball, barely avoiding getting crushed by his giant wrecking ball.
"Come on! Can't ya guys give up and go to jail quietly or something? Ooh! That would be real nice!" Spiderman shot a web at Piledriver, trying to wrap him up in the sticky substance.
Piledriver ripped the webbing off himself, using it as leverage to throw the unsuspecting young thief into a nearby wall. "Do you ever shut up!?"
"Why yes... yes I do. Why? Do you think I'm talking too much? Cause I've been told that I need to speak up more." Spiderman's spidey-sense went off, giving him just enough warning to leap out of the way of Bulldozer.
That's three... where's Wrecker? Spiderman scanned the area for the leader of the wrecking crew, tensing just slightly as his spidey-sense continued to hum.
"Spidey! Behind you!" Tony Stark soared into the battle, blasting the unsuspecting Wrecker in the face with one of his beams. Well, Wrecker wasn't expecting it until Tony gave his own position away.
Spiderman squealed slightly, gawking at the armor clad superhero. "Oh wow! You're Iron Man! I love love love your work on ARC reactors! So awesome! Oh, hey that dude is about to smack you from behind." Springing forward, Spiderman quickly webbed up Thunderball, somehow managing to separate him from his weapon.
Tony and Spiderman worked in tangent for a while, trading jokes as they did so. Finally, the wrecking crew was tied up and ready to be sent to jail... and Spiderman was really late. "Gotta go. I'm so late it's not even funny." With that said, he leapt away, shooting out a line of webbing to swing himself away from the scene of the crime.
No sooner was he gone than Steve Rogers approached him. "Tony... we're supposed to be arresting Spiderman."
"Oops."
Peter fidgeted slightly as the burly bodyguard knocked on the door that the others were behind. Harry answered the door, glancing past the butler to Peter's smaller form. A grin flashed across his features as he pulled the door open. "Peter! You're here! Was beginning to get worried."
Fishing out his notebook, Peter scribbled out a response to that. Traffic jam. Sorry.
Harry gestured for him to come in, a gently nudging him into the room. "No need to apologize. We're just going over blueprints right now."
Peter took a deep breath as he sat down next to Miles, as far from Anya as possible. Gwen grabbed a pile of papers, which she promptly handed over to him. Peter scanned them briefly, noting that they were notes on what they've already covered... for him seeing has Gwen had written his name across the top as clear as day. Peter nodded his thanks, carefully flipping through the notes to see if there was anything that he could improve upon.
"Okay, next order of business now that we have a general idea on what the end project should look like... what exactly are we programming them to do?" Anya tapped her pen to her chin, looking some how looking as if she were having fun and taking this assignment seriously at the same time.
"Throw disco dance parties!" Miles blurted out, looking very pleased with himself.
Peter drew his eyebrows together upon hearing that, not seeing how dance parties could be beneficial to police officers. Gwen must have felt the same way, as she actually questioned him on that. "Why would the police need robots to help them throw dance parties?"
"Just cause, everyone deserves to have some fun!" Miles was getting really into his idea of having their robot throw dance parties.
Harry shook his head, eyebrow inching upwards. "Wouldn't it make more sense to program them to, I don't know, clear civilians from the area?"
"Good point. I'll make note of that." Anya interjected, scribbling Harry's suggestion down.
It didn't escape Peter's notice that she did not write down Miles's suggestion. Gwen spoke up, another idea being tossed out there. "It should be able to safely remove people from a moving vehicle."
Peter quickly scribbled something down in his notebook, pushing it over for the others to see. If it removes the driver, it should be able to pull the car over and stop it so as to prevent crashes.
Anya brightened up at reading that, nodding vigorously as she scribbled something down on her notes. "Wonderful ideas guys."
"Still think it needs to throw dance parties." Miles pouted as he sank low in his seat.
Peter shrugged, not really seeing how any of that would be helpful. They don't need to throw dance parties, they need to catch criminals. Which means that it needs to be able to keep up in high stakes situations without having any trouble. We're supposed to be building a devise to help the officers due their job more smoothly.
Silence fell as the friends gawked at their classmate for a minute, then Anya grinned, giving him a small applause. "Couldn't have said it better than myself there Peter. I really hope that you got the message across Miles."
"Oh it did... but I'm not budging on the dance party idea."
