The caverns beneath Atlantis stretched endlessly, their smooth walls etched with glowing lines of Atlantean script. As Kia led Senku deeper into the labyrinth, the faint hum of energy in the air grew stronger, vibrating with a strange resonance that seemed alive.
"It's just ahead," Kia said, her voice steady but quiet.
Senku followed, his sharp eyes darting around, absorbing every detail of the alien architecture. The air was charged with anticipation, and the faint light of the walls glinted off the strange object clutched in Kia's hand—a small crystal that seemed to pulse faintly with a greenish glow.
"This was my mother's," Kia explained, holding the crystal up. "My father kept it after she…" Her voice faltered, but she straightened her posture. "It's a backup key. Without it, we wouldn't be able to access the Crystal of Atlantis."
"May I?" Senku asked, his hand outstretched, curiosity radiating from him.
After a brief hesitation, Kia handed it to him.
Senku turned the object over in his hands, studying its design. It was unlike anything he'd seen, a strange fusion of metal and stone, its surface marked with delicate engravings that shimmered faintly. Rings of material looped around each other, almost floating in place, as if defying gravity.
"Interesting," Senku muttered, holding it closer to his ear. He expected to hear the faint hum of energy he'd encountered in other Atlantean devices, but instead, there was a deep, eerie silence. He focused harder, his mind straining to connect with the technology.
Suddenly, a vision overtook him.
He saw Atlantis as it once was—a thriving island bathed in golden sunlight. The streets were alive with people, their laughter echoing through crystalline towers that gleamed against the sky. Then came the cries of warning, guards shouting of an incoming attack.
And then, the green flash.
At the center of it all stood a woman—Kia's mother, the Queen of Atlantis—holding a glowing green device. Senku recognized it instantly.
"The Medusa," he whispered aloud.
The light erupted from the device, sweeping across the island in an instant. People froze where they stood, their bodies turned to stone. The entire island, encased in petrification, sank silently beneath the waves.
The vision ended as abruptly as it had begun. Senku staggered, his breath coming in short bursts as he handed the key back to Kia.
"Later," he muttered to himself. "There'll be time to process this later."

They entered the central chamber, a massive cavern lit by the eerie glow of a singular object suspended in midair.
The Medusa.
It was larger than the one Senku had seen before, its rings spinning slowly in place. Its surface shimmered with a greenish-blue light that cast strange shadows across the walls. A faint hum filled the room, growing louder with every step they took.
Kia stopped at the edge of the shallow pool surrounding the Medusa. Her eyes were fixed on the device, and her voice trembled as she spoke in Atlantean. The words flowed from her lips, melodic and haunting.
Senku couldn't understand the language, but the meaning resonated within him. Her voice spoke of history, loss, and hope. The Medusa wasn't just the heart of Atlantis—it was the source of their power, their longevity, and their downfall.
"This is it," Senku whispered, his eyes locked on the Medusa. "This is how your people survived… and how they were lost."
Kia nodded, her expression solemn. "It controls everything. The dome, the currents, the energy… It even determines who lives and who dies. My father said it was a gift from the stars, but it's more like a curse."

Senku took a step closer, his boots splashing softly in the water. As soon as his foot touched the pool, the light of the Medusa shifted. The green glow turned red, pulsing in time with a low, ominous hum.
"Kia?" Senku asked, glancing back at her.
But Kia wasn't responding. She stood frozen, her eyes wide with shock as the Medusa's light intensified.
"Kia!" Senku shouted, stepping back quickly.
The room shook as the Medusa's hum grew louder, its rings spinning faster. The air grew heavy, charged with energy that prickled against Senku's skin.
"Kia, stop!" Senku tried to grab her arm, but she was already stepping into the pool, her movements slow and deliberate, as though she were being drawn forward by the device itself.
"Kia, don't do this!" Senku yelled, desperation creeping into his voice.
She stopped in the center of the pool, her face tilted upward. The Medusa's glow surrounded her, casting her in an ethereal light. When she turned back to Senku, her eyes were no longer her own. They blazed with the same green light as the Medusa.
"Do not be afraid, Ishigami Senku," she said, her voice layered with an otherworldly tone. "All will be well."
Senku stepped forward, his fists clenched. "Kia, listen to me! You don't have to do this! We'll figure something out—together!"
Her lips curved into a faint smile. "You cannot stop this. Atlantis has waited too long. The Medusa has chosen."
The device above her began spinning faster, its rings blurring together. The hum became a roar, reverberating through the cavern.
"Kia!" Senku shouted again, his voice raw.
She turned toward him one last time, her expression softening. "Feeling brave, science guy?"
Senku stared, speechless.
She leaned forward, her lips brushing his ear as she whispered something he couldn't quite process.
Before he could respond, the Medusa's light flared, filling the entire cavern with blinding intensity. When the glow faded, Kia was gone.

The room fell silent, save for the faint hum of the Medusa. Senku stood frozen, his heart pounding as he stared at the empty space where Kia had been.
"The princess…" he murmured, his voice barely audible. "She's… gone."
He turned back to the Medusa, its rings now spinning lazily, as though it had completed its task. The weight of what had just happened pressed down on him.
The fate of Atlantis—and perhaps the entire world—now rested in his hands. A teenage scientist with no army, no royal bloodline, and no way to stop an erupting volcano.
Senku touched his ear, remembering what the princess had asked of him. "Alright, Medusa," he muttered, his voice filled with determination. "Let's see what you've got."
The power of science might not be enough this time, he'd need a little bit of luck. But, despite the fact that he wasnt lucky—at all—Senku Ishigami wasn't about to back down.
