The morning air was crisp, the sky bright with a few scattered clouds as Veronica and Reggie stepped out of their apartment. The events of the previous night still lingered in Veronica's mind, but she pushed them aside. Today was about getting to know Columbus, Indiana—a chance to distract herself from the unease that had been haunting her since they moved in.

"You ready to try something new?" Reggie asked as he locked the car doors, his tone upbeat. "I hear they've got killer tenderloins around here."

Veronica adjusted her sunglasses, glancing over at him with a smirk. "You've done your research, haven't you?"

"Only the essentials," he teased, sliding an arm around her waist as they walked toward the downtown area. "Come on, Lodge. Let's find some food before you start complaining."

Their first stop was a small diner recommended by a friendly neighbor, where they ordered Hoosier Tenderloin sandwiches. The massive breaded pork cutlets dwarfed the buns, and Veronica couldn't help but laugh as she struggled to get a proper bite.

"This is ridiculous," she said, holding the sandwich up to inspect it. "It's bigger than my head."

"Bigger than your ego, too," Reggie quipped, dodging a playful swat from her. "But seriously, this is good. Maybe small-town life isn't so bad."

They sat at a corner booth, surrounded by the casual hum of diners and the clink of dishes. For a moment, it felt like they were just another couple, far removed from the chaos of Riverdale.

Veronica took a sip of her iced tea, her expression softening. "You know, it's weird. Being here. Away from everything. From my dad."

Reggie nodded, chewing thoughtfully. "Yeah. No more Hiram Lodge breathing down your neck. No more shady business deals. No more—what did you call it?—'generational corruption.'"

She rolled her eyes but smiled. "That man could ruin a birthday party with his schemes. I swear, it feels like my entire life has been about cleaning up after his messes."

"Well," Reggie said, leaning back in his seat, "now you don't have to. This is your fresh start, Ronnie. Ours."

Her gaze softened as she looked at him. "You're right. This is our chance to make something for ourselves."

After finishing their tenderloins, they strolled through downtown Columbus, marveling at the town's famous architecture. The blend of modern and historic designs was unlike anything they had seen before, and even Veronica—who had seen her fair share of glamorous cities—was impressed.

"This is actually beautiful," she admitted as they passed the iconic First Christian Church. "I never thought a small town could have so much… character."

Reggie grinned. "See? Told you this move wasn't a bad idea."

As they wandered, Veronica pulled out her phone and decided to FaceTime their friends back in Riverdale. The screen soon filled with the familiar faces of Betty, Archie, Jughead, Kevin, and Tabitha.

"Look at you two," Betty said with a smile. "Exploring your new town like a couple of tourists."

"Guilty," Veronica replied, turning the camera to show off the architecture around them. "Can you believe this place? It's got history, charm, and—most importantly—no Hiram Lodge."

"Sounds like heaven," Jughead remarked dryly. "So, how's the apartment? Still haunted?"

"Not today," Reggie said, his tone light. "But we'll keep you posted."

Veronica smirked but decided not to elaborate on the strange events. Instead, she focused on their surroundings. "So, are you guys coming to our apartment warming party tomorrow? I'll send the details."

"Well," Archie said, glancing at the others, "we actually have news. We're on our way to Columbus right now. Booked a hotel nearby."

Veronica's eyes lit up. "Really? You're all coming?"

"Of course," Betty said. "We wouldn't miss it."

"You're lucky Cheryl's not here," Kevin added with a laugh. "She'd probably show up in a ballgown and steal the spotlight."

"Classic Cheryl," Veronica said, shaking her head fondly. "Alright, text me when you get here. I'll make sure everything's ready for the party."

After ending the call, Veronica and Reggie decided to stop by Zaharakos, the local ice cream parlor, for dessert. The vintage decor and cheerful atmosphere were a welcome contrast to the eeriness of their apartment. They ordered sundaes, taking their time to enjoy the moment.

"This place is legit," Reggie said, licking his spoon. "Almost feels like we're in a different decade."

Veronica nodded, her thoughts drifting. "You know, for the first time in a long time, I feel… okay. Like maybe we made the right choice coming here."

He reached across the table, taking her hand. "We did. And tomorrow, with everyone here, it'll feel even more real. A new life, a new beginning."

But as they finished their ice cream and headed back to their apartment, a familiar chill crept into Veronica's chest. She glanced over her shoulder as they climbed the stairs, half-expecting to see something—or someone—watching them. There was nothing there, but the feeling lingered.

Reggie unlocked the door, pushing it open with a grin. "Home sweet home."

Veronica stepped inside, her gaze sweeping the room. For now, it was just an apartment. But in the back of her mind, she couldn't shake the thought that it held more secrets than they were prepared to face.
