It's driving me out of my mind
That's why it's hard for me to find
Can't get it outta my head
Miss her, kiss her, love her, wrong move you're dead

That girl is poison

Unrequited love is such a sad concept.

To think that one person could love another so much that they would be willing to sacrifice themselves for them, but never get their love in return. Sometimes, they never do notice that you love them until too late. Other times, they know and want to let you down gently. Rejection is a thing no one wants to hear, but it is something that must be done in order to grow.

In Hotaru's case, she was always infatuated with the six eyed demon that lived in her home.

It was small at first, being that he did train her to master the blade and would patch her up when she was done. Her own father didn't even do things like that, and it was greatly appreciated. Other times, she would catch him playing his flute, closing her eyes as she appreciated his music. At one point, she would spy on him from the shadows and watch him train. Her heart fluttered a bit, wanting some form of love that her father would not provide her.

She fashioned herself to fit his style and aesthetic to gain his eye. Her short hair was brushed and glossed to reflect the moonlight. Her kimonos were now purple and black with lunar designs. She even started to wear a bit of makeup to showcase her outer beauty. Kyojin would help her practice what to say when he came around as well.

One evening, while the moon was full, she came into the garden with a determined look on her face. Every top of the 23rd hour, he would wander the garden to take a break from hunting down the Blue Spider Lily. His eyes would carry a sense of longing and sadness whenever he did so. She was ready this time, ready to profess her love and have him return the gesture. The age gap was nothing to her as she could warp her body to become the ideal woman for him. She sensed him deep within the garden as she giddily made her way over to him. The Whispers, those nosy flowers, were doing their late night gossip. She never did pay them any mind, finding their gossip asinine and uninteresting. However, on this particular night, she happened upon a tidbit that made her worry.

"That six-eyed one is at her coffin again!"
"He's always coming here to speak with her. How romantic."
"Hush! Do you want to be plucked? The king would be furious if he knew!"

No...it couldn't be true! Surely, it was a mistake of the ear, a slip of the tongue! No way could her Koku-Chan be in love with her mother of all people! Didn't she have enough suitors to court her that she could leave her lover alone? Her feet moved her quickly through the scented trees of the garden to where her mother slept. To her outrage, there he was, standing over her glass coffin. His face wasn't sullen, nor was he weeping in sorrow like most. There was a smile on his lips, eyes full of pure love, and his hands brushed delicately on the glass. He didn't even look like his usual stoic self.

For a moment, he gave off the aura of a human man in love with a beautiful princess.

"You haven't aged a day since we brought you here." His voice barely heard. "Every day since then has been a constant battle of breaking you out and wrapping my arms around you. What my foolish brother did I can never forgive. Those demon slayers will pay for doing this."

His body language shifted as he knelt before her. "And yet, despite the fact you have not truly married him, I still find myself pining for you. Ever since that night in the cave when we were alone, I often wondered if I was your first choice. If I had met you in your human life, would I have married you? Every smile, every laugh, every small moment together has been ingrained upon my soul. Yet, you chose the master and left me wandering behind you. Even if I can never have you, I shall be your guardian and steadfast companion. I shall let no harm befall your very form. That is my promise to you."

Hotaru's heart shattered when she saw him kiss the coffin where her lips were. Tears went down her face, burning the ground when they landed. A mixture of despair, anger, and envy coursed through her body as she ran out of the garden. Her claws ripped out the hair accessories, the flowers, her necklace, and everything she did to make herself beautiful. Kyojin flinched when she barreled into her bedroom and threw herself on the bed. Her wails echoed inside the chamber as the shadow rubbed her back.

This was Hotaru's first heartbreak.

The sounds of clashing blades broke the silence of the night.

Kokushibo kept a calm face as he parried every strike from the now adult version of Hotaru. Her scythe oozed with poison as she continued to lash out at him. Every bash of the blades made him sweat a bit. He was more skilled, but she was more unpredictable. The fact that he was refusing to use his breathing style also made it a bit harder as well.

Meanwhile, Hotaru was enjoying getting her frustration out on him. All those years of pining and longing were replaced with loathing and hatred. The moon demon was someone she abhors now, and his death would be nothing more than freeing for her! A sick part of her mind wanted to keep him alive, though. After all, when she killed her mother, he would need someone to cry on, and her shoulder was ready for that.

"Don't you think this farce has gone on long enough?" Hotaru brought her scythe down, nearly cutting her adversary. "Just leave her to her own demise! Hasn't she caused you enough heartache and pain for just existing?"

"Do not speak of her in that matter. She is still your mother." He replied, blocking another of her attacks.

"I have no mother! The moment she decided to have other kids with other demons was the last part of respect I had for her! I'm sorry for even being her child!"

Kokushibo snarled, his blade drawing first blood as he sliced her cheek. "You have no right to speak like that to her. She kept you safe away from harm. Her love brought life to your very body. Had it not been for her!"

"SHUT UP!" Hotaru spun the blade in her hand as her eyes glowed. "YOU ARE NOTHING BUT A LOVESICK FOOL WHO WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO GAIN HER LOVE! IT SICKENS ME THAT YOU WASTE YOUR TIME CLAMORING AFTER SOMEONE WHOSE LOVE IS FOR SOMEONE ELSE! SHE'S NEVER GOING TO LOVE YOU LIKE THE WAY I DO!"

Her words made him hesitate, which was the exact moment she had been waiting for. With a flourish, she kicked him in the chest and watched him slam against the wall. Before he could get up, her blade stabbed the spot beside his neck.

"Don't you dare move Kokushibo." Her voice was hardened as she glared down at him. "I don't wish to harm you, but if it's the only way for you to understand that you are mine, not hers."

"This is madness Hotaru. I don't love you in that light and I-!" He winced, feeling a stabbing pain as Hotaru's claws dug in his shoulder.

"Hush now. Demon Arts: Hypnos Slumbering Spell."

Hotaru pumped her potent poison through his body as his eyes slowly closed. His body slumped forward as she caught him, caressing his face with a dreamy look in her face. She placed a kiss on his forehead.

"Rest well, my love. For when you awaken, we will be the only ones here. My mother shall not burden you no longer." She placed him against the wall and got up. "In fact, I am certain she will not live to see the sunrise come morning."

Hotaru shrunk down to her child-like state and made her way back in front of her mother's door. With a smirk, she knocked on the door.

Inside Douma's mansion, a single bud began to glow and grow.

Fuyuka hummed to herself as she watered the various plants around the estate. The cult members tried to convince her not to do so, not wanting to sully her hands. She was grateful for their concern, but wanted to do something to please her father. After all, if she was a princess, it was only right for her to serve her kingdom.

Following behind her as she did her daily tasks was her cute human companion Inosuke. The baby practically crawled after her, getting frustrated when she went too fast. He was growing up pretty fast, but he tried to walk before he could wiggle. Now he was on his belly as he squirmed to keep up with his big sister.

Trailing behind him was Akasei, who glared at the baby. He had a rivalry with Inosuke as they vied for her attention. There were many times that he tried to eat the baby, only to be saved by Inosuke's mother or Fuyuka. He would keep his distance and growl at the baby instead.

"Akasei! Stop growling at my cute baby human!" Fuyuka glared at her brother and turned to Inosuke. "Aren't you the cutest? Trying to follow me, aren't you?"

She picked up the baby, laughing as he tried to make a mean face at her. Once she brought him close to her body, he stopped and cuddled deeply in her arms. The growls coming from Akasei made the baby stick his tongue out. The hallway then got unbearably hot.

"Guys! Stop heating up the hallway! Our other little sibling is growing!" Fuyuka pointed at the flower, which started to twitch.

"Bad...baby...bad..." Akasei hissed before sniffing the air. "Thunder..."

"Thunder?" The older girl furrowed her eyebrows before staring at the flower. "Oh! Do you mean this one? I don't smell any electricity. Maybe your nose is stronger than mine."

There was the sound of a shock, making them all jump. Inosuke clenched on her robes more. Akasei latched himself on her back. Fuyuka sweatdropped, feeling a bit weighed down by all these young boys. They all stared at the flower that was growing bigger and sending out sparks. The watering can dropped from her hands as they slowly backed away.

Douma immediately zoned in on their location, the usual smile on his face and eyes full of worry. When he saw the flower bud, his grin went wider.

"Well, this is fun." He used his body to shield the kids from the electric bolts. "Looks like the kid is coming prematurely."

It was great to have his wife back.

Muzan thought this as their bodies were intertwined in a tangled manner. Even if they were cold-blooded creatures of the night, it felt like their bodies were aflame with the passion of their eternal youth. Their lips pressed hard, one more dominant than the other as their tongues danced. His hands squeezed her supple breasts, enjoying the noises her mouth made. Her back arched a bit, allowing him to put his face on her chest.

"Muzan..." Sorashi whispered. "I've missed you so much while I was asleep."

"I've missed you more." His voice was muffled. "I never took another after you and I never will."

"You could've." A slight hint of doubt rose from her lips. "You have power, wealth, devilish good looks..."

"You flatter me, my queen."

"I'm just saying that you may have wanted to find some other releases of pleasure. I was just a cold body in a coffin while you waited for me."

Muzan's red eyes bore into her own purple ones. She saw various emotions in them; lust, anger, and...sadness. His hand reached for hers, rubbing her wrist in a gentle manner. The progenitor of demons was not one to show his vulnerable side often and would kill anyone who asked. However, when it came to matters regarding Sorashi, his guard was down and his true feelings came out.

"My queen..." Muzan leaned forward and placed a chaste kiss on her forehead. "Why would I find someone else when the woman I first laid eyes on, the one whom I turned first, and the one who gave my children life is right here. This is where you belong, in my arms surrounded by luxury. I would kill for you, I would live for you, and when we become immortal, we shall have eternity to bring each other love."

Sorashi smiled gently. "You know, we never did tie the knot. Our wedding was canceled due to old enemies."

Muzan smirked, kissing her once more. "Then we shall have to rectify that."

"How touching. It almost makes me feel bad for what I'm about to do."

The two looked up from their coverings to see Hotaru standing at the sliding door. They could smell the iron coming off her robes along with the splatters against the door. Her right cheek had a dark red blood stain on it and her eyes glowed widly in the moonlight. Sorashi saw a sickle in her hand.

"Hotaru? What are you doing in here?" Muzan asked, his eyes narrowed. "How did you get past the-?"

"They were weak otousan. You've trained me to be your most powerful child. It would've been an insult if they had beaten me." She slowly made her way over to them. "But right now, all I want to do is make sure you two shed blood for my ascension."

Muzan got up, angered by her words. "How dare you betray your parents!"

"Parents? You've been nothing but an abusive a-hole for most of my life! And that woman, she's been a brain-dead vegetable for part of it!" She scoffed, twirling the sickle in her hands. "This has gone on long enough. You haven't even found that stupid lily yet! How incompetent can you be?"

Muzan shot out his his arms whips, aiming to punish his daughter. However, he noticed her smirking. The whips were reflected by the shadowy ones created by Kyojin, who had hid inside her shadow. Though his was weaker than the king's, it didn't mean he didn't feel the burning effect of the sun on them. Muzan's eyes widened at this, seeing how he had to regenerate a bit.

"This is why I am better than you otousan. You cannot change yourself to combat me, the one child you trained personally. I know your moves, I've improved my own, and I have embraced any tactic to secure my victory!"

She charged forward, slashing her sickle across his cheek. Sorashi screamed when she saw it deteriorate into rotten flesh. Her eyes darted to Hotaru, who gave stuck her tongue out at her.

"My sun poison is potent enough to make sure he is weakened enough to easily defeat. Sure, it took me burning a bit to master how to harness solar energy into poison, but what's a few rotting limbs for the sake of revenge?"

"You're mad..." Sorashi came forward, her eyes glowing on and off. "Why are you doing this? Why go through all this to prove a point? We are your family."

"No you're not. At best, you are my temporary incubation chamber and he's a sperm donor." Hotaru aimed the sickle at her mother's heart with a sadistic grin. "I feel no remorse for what I am about to do."

Muzan went to attack her again, but Kyojin's shadow tentacles wrapped around his body. The feeling of the sun poison dripped into his body, making him clench his teeth. He couldn't be losing to his own child, he couldn't! For the first time in his life, he felt actual fear that he was going to lose Sorashi again...along with his own life.

Hotaru smirked when she saw her mother utterly shut down in front of her. How cute, she would never harm her own child. That just made this too easy. At the end of the day, she still believed herself to be a good mother.

Pathetic.

"Farewell mother. This time, when you injest the poison, stay dead."

Before she could stab her through the heart, a blast of lightning sent her flying backwards into the paper walls. The sickle flew out of her hand and stabbed the picture on the dresser of the last good moment she had with her family.

Her hand raised to her eye, a freshly made scar appearing on her face. The flesh itself was burned off by the lightning and left her aching in pain. She screamed, furious that something had interrupted her crowning moment. Kyojin came over to her, wrapping his arms around her screaming body.

Sorashi looked towards the window to see a storm brewing outside along with a figure standing there. Pale skin, red markings, glowing eyes, and a young body looming over her. The demon woman saw a bed of white curls in their head, lighting bolt marks under their eyes, and the most majestic pair of white wings on their back.

The child was ethereal.

And also naked.

"W-W-Who are you?" Sorashi asked, but deep in her heart, she knew.

The child looked at the woman on the ground and the man tied up with a soft smile. He raised his hand and summoned a spear made of pure lightning.

"Me? I am the fifth child. Call me...Dentaro."

The world trembles as the thunder roared.
Feeling the mighty power of the one who wields it.
However, a demon born with the wings of an angel?
Surely this will cause some form of...trouble?
