Chapter 17
The sun trickled in lightly from the balcony as Rin slowly opened her eyes. Sesshomaru's bed was very comfortable and warm, so the cool breeze coming in didn't bother her in the least. Rin turned over onto her side, trying to go back to sleep until noticed she wasn't the only one in the bed, but she was the only one awake.
Rin nervously didn't move; she didn't want to wake him. It was the first time she'd seen him sleep and he looked so peaceful. Sesshomaru looked like he was made of marble with his straight nose and strong jaw. Red lips parted slightly with the tips of his fangs shown as his chest rose and fell calmly.
Rin in her sleepy haze didn't realize she had reached out to him until a clawed hand shot out, wrapping around her right wrist and pulled her closer to his face.
Sesshomaru lazily opened one eye to look at her, still heavy with sleep and then he did the most unexpected thing. The demon pulled her flush on top of him and turned onto his side, long arms wrapping around her tightly before shutting his eyes again.
"Go back to sleep, it's early." he murmured and rested his chin on top of her head.
Rin was in shock of the situation and still not fully awake enough to notice his chest was bare, but she recognized that he was fast asleep once more. So, without thinking too much, she put her blushing face against his chest and went back to sleep.
Her last thought was that it was probably a dream, a very happy dream.
The next time Rin had awoken, it was one of Sesshomaru staff telling her to come down for breakfast. Looking at Rin oddly as she was still curled up in her Lord bed with a thin sleeping top on. Rin dismissed her quickly.
Rin tied her long hair into a braid and the servant girl named Miki led her to a huge table where servants were shuffling around setting down many dishes.
One almost knocked Rin over with her fast pace and muttered a quick 'sorry'
Rin grabbed her elbow tightly, "What going on?"
"Guests!" she shrieked. The women pulling out of Rin's grasp leaving more questions than answers.
"Rin."
The woman jumped up and squeaked at the deep voice from behind her, holding her hand to her chest.
Sesshomaru looked down at her with faint amazement as she stared back at him with a wild gaze.
"You scared me." she said.
Sesshomaru tilted his head back and looked around as the servant openly stared at their interaction.
He glanced back down at her and Rin looked up at him in suspension, "My apologies General."
A loud shattering noise and someone squeaked out, "General?!"
Rin turned around quickly and leveled her gaze on the shocked Ninma who looked between Lord Sesshomaru and herself. Ninma snapped out of it and began picking up the pieces of the shattered dish. Everyone avoided looking at Rin and went back to work, continuing on as if the awkward exchange with the Lord of the castle never happened.
Rin spun back around and looked up at Sesshomaru, who looked highly amused by this whole situation.
Rin went to open her mouth, but he cut her off, "When you've finished eating, one of the servants will show you to my study."
The demon Lord disappeared after that, and Rin ate her food in silence before heading toward his study.
When Rin entered Inuyasha was already there looking angrily at Sesshomaru, who was sitting in a comfortable looking chair. He paid Inuyasha absolutely no attention and when Inuyasha saw her, he pulled her in for a hug.
"Hey Rin, how are you?" Inuyasha asked with haste.
"I'm wel-"
"Great, can you tell this bastard to pull his head from his ass and answer my question." Inuyasha said loudly.
Now that got Sesshomaru's attention and glowered at the irritated half-demon before him. Rin nervously glanced between them.
Rin cleared her throat and began speaking, "My Lord, Master Inuyasha has some questions, and he was wondering if you'd ans-"
"No." Sesshomaru said through gritted teeth.
Rin swallowed nervously and turned to look at Inuyasha, "Master Inuyasha, Lord Sesshomaru cannot answer your questions at this time."
Inuyasha looked up at the ceiling and took a deep breath through his nose and looked back down at a nervous Rin.
Inuyasha forced a smile, "Rin tell Sesshomaru I will NOT go in front of a bunch of pompous demons and tell them shit."
Sesshomaru stood up and Rin backed up, "I think he heard you Inuyasha."
Inuyasha began to speak and Sesshomaru cut him off, "You speak for half-demons. You will answer for them to the demon court. Just as Rin will speak for the blue bloods. End of discussion."
Inuyasha looked ready to burst and swiftly turned towards Rin, "You," he pointed back at Sesshomaru as he spoke, "knew about this Rin."
"I did not but I do now." Rin took a deep breath "My Lord, why are we speaking to the demon court?"
Sesshomaru ignored Inuyasha and turned to Rin with his piercing golden eyes, "I intend to make you both representatives on the demon court."
Inuyasha interjected, "Yes but that's never happened before Sesshomaru! To top it off, they hate half-demons, you hate half demons! They won't recognize me or Rin! This is pointless."
Sesshomaru sat back down, "Inuyasha you led 4,000 half demons into a fight, and you are a son of the previous General of the west. Rin is a General who led 2,000 blue blood soldiers, a new species, into battle for the West." Sesshomaru turned to Rin, "A species that needs to be represented in order to seek asylum."
Inuyasha growled and left, slamming the door on his way out.
Rin cringed at the sound and took a seat in front of the desk.
"He is not wrong. The hostility between demons and half demons is undeniable my Lord." Rin mumbled.
"It won't matter." he stated, looking over a few papers on his desk.
Rin gulped, "Why now? I understand the blue bloods, but half demons are just a sect of demons."
"I agree. However, my Lieutenants have come forward and spoke in favor of half demons being recognized because of Inuyasha's display of power on the battlefield, among others. They all intend to speak on his behalf in court." the demon said calmly.
"You did say none of your lieutenants could best him. Now they believe it. It took Inuyasha going berserk for them to recognize his power?"
"None of my Lieutenants could beat Inuyasha in a true fight, that's a fact but he is also my half-brother." replied Sesshomaru.
Rin scoffed loudly, "They'd believe you are showing him some kind of favor because he's your brother? They're going to love it when I'm there because I'm your ward."
Rin crossed her arms, "This is going to be difficult."
"They'll allow it because Inuyasha isn't going to just speak, he's going to fight as well." he stated coyly.
"Oh? Who?" she said quickly.
Sesshomaru laced his fingers together and rested his chin on them, remaining silent.
Rin mouth dropped open, "You?!"
Sesshomaru's lips tilted up in a smile, "Me."
"When?" Rin groaned.
"Two days from now," he said.
Rin stood up and placed her hands on the desk, "You'll kill him, my Lord."
Sesshomaru scoffed, "I won't kill him."
Rin sat back down, "The two sons of the Great Dog demon pitted against each in front of the demon court…. why?"
Sesshomaru's eyes held a certain amount of mischief as he spoke, "He cut off my arm, I want to see if his can grow back too."
"My Lord!" Rin said seriously.
