Hello, I'm back. Sorry for the long break, I lost interest with the Sonic fandom, but now Sonic 3 is in cinemas and it was awesome! So I decided to add something to this fic…

I do not own any Sonic characters.

Contrary to popular opinion Sonic could sometimes have good ideas. Like the plan to take their collective minds of the fact that Donut Lord was in hospital (again) by racing.

Despite the fact that Sonic was still a little dizzy from the whole 'powering up and saving the world' thing he could still run ok and set about proving it.

Donut Lord would be ok. He'd survived worse things than this. Ok, so maybe that was a LITTLE bit of an exaggeration, but he'd survived Knuckles's bone-crushing handshake and that's got to count for something, right?

Muscles screaming, feeling hurting and out of breath, Sonic ran and ran until he tripped over something big. Sonic automatically curled himself into a ball and rolled into a tree. "Oh, come on!" He whined, getting it his feet. "I have had the worst day in FOREVER! I do not need to deal with your-" He stopped abruptly, eyes going wide as he recognised the prone form. "Shadow!? Oh, you have got to be kidding me! I thought you'd died in that explosion."

No answer.

Sonic frowned and knelt down. "Ok, seriously, if you can hear me growl or something."
No answer.

"Okey-dokey, well Tails tells me that people can hear when they're unconscious, and I'm assuming that goes for us hedgehogs to. I'm going to take your pulse, ok? Don't freak out and kill me."

Sonic gently took the black hedgehogs wrist and felt for a pulse. There was one. Okey, good. "Well, what am I meant to do with you now?" Sonic said, knowing he wouldn't get an answer. "I could leave you here I suppose. No one except me would know and I'm not gonna tell." He sighed. "But no doubt Tails is monitoring me and will ask why I'm late back, and then I'll have to lie and he'll give me those big puppy-dog eyes and…" The blue hedgehog groaned and face palmed. "…ok. Guess we're doing this then." He picked Shadow up and arranged him in his arms bridal style. This was he'd be able to see at least. "Don't get comfortable." Sonic warned the unconscious hedgehog. "As soon as you open your eyes you're out. Which is probably a good job, because you'll have Maddie and Knuckles at least wanting to kill you on sight. And I'm not to fond of you either." He shuffled the dead weight in his arms again. "Alright, Coal Black, let's get going."

"Sonic's been gone for twenty minutes!" Tails said, anxiously.

"I can go and retrieve him if you like?" Knuckled asked.

"No one is going anywhere." Maddie said, firmly. After recent events she wanted all her boys together. "Sonic is a big boy. I'm sure he'll be ok."

Both Knuckles and Tails turned to her and gave her a look.

"He'll be fine." She said again. "He survived getting thrown into the moon, didn't he?"

"Maddie!"

Ozie's ears pricked up as he heard the blue ones voice.

This alerted the rest of the group and they relaxed. Then immediately tensed again when they saw what, or rather who, Somic was carrying.

"No." Knuckled said firmly.

"Where on earth did you find him?" Tails asked.

"Sonic…" Maddie trailed off and just waved her arms around.

Sonic dropped Shadow on the ground and held his hands in the air. "I know, I know, but he was unconscious in New York, what was I meant to do?"

"Leave him!" Tails and Knuckles said together.

Maddie stepped forward gingerly and knelt down next to Shadow. "Unconscious? I thought things couldn't knock this guy unconscious?"

"It was a massive explosion." Sonic pointed out.
"Good point." Maddie sighed. "Well, I suppose we better take him to my practice. At least we can monitor him there."

"I do not understand." Knuckles said, frowning. "He nearly killed Donut Lord. Why are we not killing him? Or at least disowning him?" Knuckles amended, seeing Maddie's glare.

Maddie and Sonic looked at each other like they were expecting the other one to take the lead.

"Technically he broke Toms arm and bottom ribs." Tails said, automatically.

"I care not what he broke, I just wish he be far away from us."

"You and me both, big guy." Sonic said. "But we're committed now so…" He gave a sheepish smile. "Surprise?"
