Chapter 9: Phantomblessed
The morning sun was just beginning to rise, casting a soft golden light over the streets of Magnolia. Naruto walked beside Brandish, the quiet stillness of the early hours wrapping around them like a gentle breeze. The two of them had left his small apartment not long ago, and now they were making their way toward the Fairy Tail guild hall.
Naruto stretched, the sleep still lingering in his muscles as he yawned, his eyes bright with excitement. "You're going to love the guild!" He said, glancing at Brandish with a wide smile. "They're a little… Loud, but welcoming!"
Brandish, her usual calm expression in place, gave a small nod, her hands resting in the pockets of her coat. "Sounds like a handful. Can't I just go back to bed?"
Naruto chuckled. "Don't be like that! Fairy Tail is a big part of my life and if you're gonna stick around I want you to meet everyone! You'll fit in before you know it." His tone was genuine, filled with the warmth he always tried to spread around.
Brandish eyed him carefully, her green gaze thoughtful. She hadn't said much since yesterday's emotional conversation with Aquarius, and though she agreed to stay with Naruto, she was still sorting through her feelings. She wasn't used to opening up, and the idea of joining a rowdy guild made her sick. Yet Naruto was so bright. So warm. He was an infectious addition to her life that she wanted to explore more of.
"Are you sure they won't mind me being there?" She asked, her voice quieter than usual. "I did try to kill you."
Naruto tilted his head, giving her a reassuring smile. "Hey, if you're with me, they'll accept you in a heartbeat. Plus that whole trying to kill me stays between us."
Brandish's lips twitched, almost forming a smile before she caught herself. She glanced down at the cobblestone path ahead, kicking a stray pebble as she walked. "You sound so confident." She muttered.
Naruto grinned wider. "Of course I am! You'll see. I haven't been a member for a long time, but I've never felt more at home since joining."
As they continued through the quiet streets, the large silhouette of the Fairy Tail guild hall came into view in the distance. The sight made Naruto's heart race a little with excitement. He hadn't seen his guildmates in a few days, and he was eager to introduce Brandish to everyone.
"I'm warning you now, though." He said with a playful tone. "Natsu's probably going to challenge you to a fight within five minutes of meeting you. It's kind of his thing. Still he's probably in trouble for stealing an S-class quest."
Brandish made a pout. "Really? He sounds annoying."
Naruto chuckled. "You could say that. Natsu's a handful, but don't let him fool you. He's a good guy. Same with Happy, Gray and Erza. You'll meet them all soon enough."
They walked in companionable silence for a moment before Naruto cleared his throat. "And if you get uncomfortable just let me know. I'm aware Aquarius kinda didn't give much room for an argument about you staying here. I know you'd probably rather be back home."
Brandish's expression softened slightly. "I appreciate that. She was rather adamant about me staying with you. Still I'm my own person. I didn't have to stay. You're different from anyone else I've met before. So I'm curious enough to stay around."
"Really?" Naruto scratched the back of his head, a sheepish smile creeping onto his face. "What makes me different?"
A hint of a smile played at Brandish's lips as she glanced at Naruto. "Well for starters I don't hate you."
"That seems like a low bar." Naruto replied back, which made Brandish roll her eyes.
"Considering the only person I don't hate is my mom or August. That bar is actually quite high."
Naruto nodded with a grin and tucked that small information he was given away. He would ask about who that August person was another day.
"Well if it means anything. I don't hate you either."
Brandish slightly blushed and her heart skipped. She didn't know why, but that was exactly what she wanted to hear. "Thank you."
They were close now, the grand guild doors just ahead. Naruto stopped for a second, turning to Brandish, his expression growing a bit more serious. "Look, I know this is a big change and you don't wanna join, but I'm really glad you're here."
Brandish's green eyes met his, and for a moment, her guarded exterior dropped. "I don't know what will happen, but... I'll follow you."
Naruto smiled, a spark of hope lighting up his face. "Then let's head inside."
As Naruto pushed open the grand doors of the Fairy Tail guild, chaos immediately flooded his and Brandish's senses. The large hall was alive with activity. More like a riot than anything else. Laughter and shouting echoed off the walls, and a few chairs had already been knocked over.
"Welcome to Fairy Tail." Naruto muttered, grinning sheepishly as he glanced at Brandish.
She stood beside him, her green eyes wide with surprise as she took in the scene. There was Cana at the bar, already drinking despite the early hour, a barrel of ale in front of her like it was just another cup. Behind the bar, Mirajane was busy serving plates of food with a sweet smile, completely unfazed by the chaos around her. At one table, Elfman was yelling something about "being a real man" to anyone within earshot, his booming voice overpowering the others.
Naruto waved at Mirajane, who gave him a quick, friendly nod before returning to her work. "This... this is normal." Naruto said with a laugh, rubbing the back of his neck. "You get used to it."
Brandish blinked, her eyes scanning the room again as a loud crash came from the other side of the hall. Natsu and Gray were in the middle of one of their usual brawls, fists flying, while Erza stood nearby with her arms crossed, glaring at them both.
"Natsu, Gray! How many times do I have to tell you? No fighting inside the guild hall!" Erza's voice cut through the noise like a sword, and even though neither of the two boys seemed to be listening, there was a distinct air of fear as they dodged each other's attacks.
Brandish raised an eyebrow. "This is... your guild?"
Naruto chuckled. "Yup! Home sweet home."
Before Brandish could reply, a familiar voice purred from behind them. "Well, well, who's this beautiful lady?"
Loke appeared out of nowhere, his signature flirtatious grin firmly in place as he slid up beside Brandish, taking her hand with a smooth motion. "I don't believe we've had the pleasure of meeting. My name's Loke, and I'd love to show you around the guild personally."
Brandish eyed him, clearly unimpressed by his approach, but before she could respond, Naruto cleared his throat loudly. Loke's confident smile faltered the moment he spotted Naruto's Celestial keys hanging from his neck.
"Oh… uh… right." Loke straightened up, his expression shifting from flirtatious to uneasy in seconds. "I'll, uh, let you handle the tour, Naruto." He quickly stepped back, offering a weak wave before disappearing into the crowd.
Brandish turned to Naruto with a raised eyebrow. "He seemed... annoying."
Naruto snorted. "He's always like that, but he seems to avoid me because I'm a Celestial Spirit Wizard. Mirajane said one broke his heart once so he avoids anyone who uses gate keys."
"Interesting." Brandish muttered, clearly noting the change in Loke's demeanor.
Naruto flashed her a grin before turning toward the center of the room. "Come on. Let me introduce you to the Master."
They made their way through the chaos, dodging an overturned table and a stray plate of food that had somehow gone flying through the air. Brandish walked cautiously, her eyes still wide with disbelief at the madness around her. Naruto, on the other hand, navigated the room with practiced ease, smiling and waving to his guildmates.
As they approached the raised platform at the far end of the hall, they finally spotted Master Makarov. The tiny, elderly man was sitting calmly on the edge of the platform, observing the chaos below him with a bemused expression. Despite his size, his presence was commanding, and the respect he held in the guild was evident even amidst the madness.
"Master!" Naruto called, waving as they neared.
Makarov looked up, a warm smile crossing his face. "Ah, Naruto, good to see you, my boy! And who might this be?"
"This is Brandish." Naruto introduced, stepping aside so Makarov could get a better look at her. "She's, uh, a friend. Aquarius wanted her to stay with me, so I figured I'd bring her to meet the guild."
Makarov's sharp eyes studied Brandish for a moment before he nodded, his smile never fading. "Welcome to Fairy Tail, Brandish. You're in good hands with Naruto here."
Brandish offered a small nod, still processing the whirlwind of energy and noise that surrounded her. "This place is a goddamn circus."
Makarov chuckled. "Fairy Tail has a way of surprising people. But you'll find that, no matter the chaos, we take care of our own. I'm sure you'll fit in just fine."
Naruto beamed, nudging Brandish gently. "See? Told you."
Brandish sighed, her usual calm expression returning as she glanced around the room once more. "I'm only following Naruto. I have no interest in joining your guild."
Makarov rubbed his chin. "Well no matter if you join Fairy Tail or not. Our doors are always open for you child."
Brandish blinked at the man's kindness. It was genuine like Naruto's. Something that made the girl's chest tighten. "Thank you."
Naruto grinned wider. "So how did Natsu's stolen mission go?"
Makarov grumbled and began retelling the story of Natsu, Gray and Erza completing the mission on Galuna Island. Explaining everything that Naruto had missed from taking his own mission.
As Naruto finished speaking with Makarov, the loud clamor of footsteps approached behind him. He turned to see Natsu, Gray, and Erza walking up, their usual dynamic energy filling the air around them. Natsu was grinning widely, while Gray appeared slightly more irritated than usual, his shirt nowhere to be seen again. Erza, as always, looked calm and composed, but there was a faint trace of annoyance in her expression.
"Yo, Naruto!" Natsu greeted with his usual enthusiasm. "You'll never guess what we got to do!"
Naruto raised an eyebrow, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. "What? You took the Galuna Island mission, didn't you?"
Natsu blinked in surprise. "Wait… how did you know?"
Gray groaned, rubbing the back of his head. "Because everyone knows you can't resist missions like that, flame brain. I'm sure the Master told him."
Natsu shot Gray a glare, and the two immediately squared off, tension building as they prepared for another one of their classic brawls. But before fists could fly, Erza stepped between them, crossing her arms and giving them both a stern look that immediately silenced their quarrel.
"Yes, he did take that mission and we followed like I'm sure the master explained already." Erza said, her voice sharp and controlled, though there was a hint of frustration. "Still I wished you could have joined us. You were missed."
Naruto chuckled, crossing his arms. "I appreciate that, but I'm sure we will have other chances for a team up. Just hopefully it won't be from Natsu forcing everyone into an unsanctioned mission."
Natsu pouted, crossing his arms as well. "Aw, come on! It was awesome! Cursed island, creepy demon… It was perfect!"
"You would think that." Gray muttered.
Naruto shook his head, amused. Then he gestured toward Brandish, who had been quietly observing the exchange with a raised eyebrow. "Anyway, before these two start fighting again, let me introduce you guys to someone."
He turned to Brandish, who glanced between the group with curiosity. "This is Brandish. She's new here and staying with me for a while." He flashed her a friendly smile. "Brandish, meet my friends. This fiery guy is Natsu. He's loud, but he's got a good heart. The small cat with him is Happy."
Natsu puffed his chest out proudly. "That's me! Strongest man in Fairy Tail!"
Happy giggled. "That's a big lie Natsu."
Naruto chuckled. "And this is Gray. Just ignore the fact that he's usually half-naked."
Gray frowned. "Hey, I don't do it on purpose!"
Brandish gave him a brief nod, clearly unimpressed.
"And finally." Naruto continued. "This is Erza. She's the one who keeps these two in line."
Erza smiled warmly, offering a hand to Brandish. "It's nice to meet you. Welcome to Fairy Tail."
Brandish shook Erza's hand, her expression softening just slightly. An odd sensation of familiarity swept across her as she looked at the redhead. Yet Brandish couldn't figure out what it was. "I should clarify I'm not joining your guild."
Erza chuckled. "Oh really? Well regardless, a friend of Naruto's is always welcome."
Naruto grinned, throwing an arm around Brandish's shoulder. "I told you Brandy! They'd totally love ya."
Brandish glanced at him, then back at the group. Despite her usual guarded demeanor, there was a faint hint of annoyance in her eyes. "Brandy?"
Natsu's eyes lit up. "Oh! Maybe we can take her on the next mission! You know, show her what it's like to be part of Fairy Tail! I'd bet she'd wanna join then!"
Gray rolled his eyes. "You just want an excuse to blow something up."
Erza sighed. "Natsu, you're gonna scare her away. Allow Naruto to be the one who is involving her with our guild. You don't force her."
Naruto chuckled. "Don't worry, Erza. I'll make sure Brandy is in good hands. Plus I already warned her about Natsu."
"What does that mean!" Natsu yelled.
Brandish smirked slightly. "Wouldn't you like to know?"
Naruto laughed, clapping a hand on her shoulder. "Come on Brandish. Let's head out back. I got something I wanna do!"
The warm afternoon sun bathed Magnolia in a soft, golden glow as Naruto and Brandish stepped out of the bustling Fairy Tail guild hall. The chaos inside was a distant hum now, the air outside calmer and cooler in comparison. Brandish walked beside Naruto, still processing everything that had happened inside. She glanced at him curiously, noting the calm expression on his face as they made their way toward an open space in the grassy fields outside of the guild.
Naruto stopped, turning to Brandish with a smile. "Alright, this is as good a spot as any."
Brandish raised an eyebrow. "For what exactly?"
Naruto reached around his neck and grabbed one of his Celestial Spirit Keys, its golden surface gleaming in the sunlight. He twirled it in his fingers for a moment before holding it up. "I'm going to summon Libra."
Brandish's eyes widened slightly. "Libra? Have you not made a contract yet?"
Naruto nodded, a serious expression crossing his face for a moment. "Yeah, I've been meaning to form a contract with her for a while now, but things kept getting in the way. Today feels like the right time."
Brandish crossed her arms, watching closely. She had only ever seen Aquarius so she was curious to see a different spirit. She stepped back, giving him space as he raised the key to the sky.
"Open! Gate of the Heavenly Scales! Libra!"
A soft wind picked up around them, and a bright light burst from the key as the spirit gate opened. A moment later, a figure appeared before them. A tall, slender woman with long, flowing hair and golden scales balanced delicately in her hands. Her eyes gleamed with quiet wisdom, and her expression remained serene as she materialized.
"Libra." Naruto said respectfully. "Thank you for answering my summons."
Libra regarded Naruto with calm eyes before turning her gaze to Brandish. She tilted her head slightly, her voice soft but direct. "I've heard good things about you from Virgo and even Aquarius. You wish to form a contract with me?"
Naruto nodded. "That's right. I want to form an official contract."
Libra's scales shifted slightly in her hands as she studied him. "I understand. Let us proceed, then. Tell me, what kind of man are you? How would you utilize me?"
Naruto rubbed his chin. "Hmmm well how should i explain this. I want to protect people."
Brandish lifted her brow at this declaration. She knew very little about Naruto, but she found his resolve to help others admirable.
Libra's eyes glowed faintly as the contract ritual began. The air around them shimmered with magical energy as Libra's scales tipped to one side, her power connecting with Naruto's own magical aura.
"State your terms, Celestial Wizard." Libra said, her voice carrying an air of formality.
Naruto raised a hand, palm up. "My terms are simple. I'll summon you when your strength is needed, but I won't force you into battles that go against your nature. I'll use you to help me protect those who cannot protect themselves."
Libra's golden scales glimmered as she nodded. "Agreed. I, Libra, accept the terms of this contract."
A surge of energy pulsed between them, sealing the agreement. Naruto felt the connection with Libra solidify in his mind, the warmth of her power now a permanent part of him. The light faded, and Libra gave a graceful bow before stepping back.
"I look forward to serving you, Naruto." Libra said calmly, before her form began to fade. "Call on me whenever you need."
As she disappeared, Naruto lowered his hand, a satisfied smile on his face. He turned to Brandish, who had been watching the entire process in quiet contemplation.
"That was… easy." She admitted. "I've never seen a contract being made before. It seemed so effortless."
Naruto shrugged with a grin. "I've had a bit of practice with this whole Celestial Wizard thing."
Brandish smirked slightly. "It seems like you're more capable than you let on. Maybe there is some merit to the Starblessed rumors."
Naruto scratched the back of his head, looking somewhat sheepish. "Well, I do my best. But hey, now that Libra's officially under contract, that brings my spirits up to three."
The sound of raised voices and clattering furniture spilled out from the Fairy Tail guild hall as Naruto and Brandish approached the building. The uproar was loud enough that even from outside, they could tell something was happening. Naruto paused, glancing toward the door with a curious frown, while Brandish tilted her head, her eyes narrowing slightly.
"What's going on in there?" Brandish asked, sensing the tension. "It seems a little more chaotic than a moment ago."
Naruto shrugged. "Only one way to find out."
They pushed open the large wooden doors, stepping inside to find complete chaos. Naruto scanned the guild, not bothered by the mess as they continued making their way through the crowded room. But before they could reach Makarov's usual spot, the room fell into a sudden hush. A heavy presence entered the hall, and Naruto immediately tensed, sensing something off.
At the front entrance, a towering figure stepped inside, flanked by several intimidating men dressed in black. The man in the lead was none other than Jose Porla, the Master of Phantom Lord. His presence commanded attention, and his cold, calculating gaze swept over the room, landing on Makarov, who sat at a table near the back.
The air grew thick with tension as Jose approached, his voice calm but filled with menace. "Makarov, I think we need to have a little chat."
Makarov, unfazed by Jose's presence, leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms, his expression stern. "Well this is a surprise."
Naruto and Brandish exchanged a glance, both of them feeling the weight of the situation. Naruto's eyes narrowed as he watched Jose's every move, his mind already racing. Whatever Phantom Lord's master was here for, it didn't seem pleasant.
Brandish leaned closer to Naruto, her voice low. "Who is that?"
"I actually have no idea." Naruto muttered. "Whoever he is, I can tell he's strong."
The entire guild seemed to hold its breath as the two guild masters stared each other down. Whatever was about to happen, it was clear that things were about to get a lot more complicated. As the tension in the guild hall continued to thicken, Makarov sighed heavily and stood up from his seat. His eyes never left Jose as he gestured towards his office. "If you want to talk, let's do it in private. No need to make a scene in front of my children."
Jose smirked, his eyes gleaming with malice. "As you wish, Makarov."
The two guild masters turned and walked towards Makarov's office, disappearing behind the heavy wooden doors that closed with an ominous thud. The moment they were out of sight, the murmur of confused voices spread throughout the guild. The atmosphere was heavy with uncertainty, and everyone seemed on edge, waiting for what would come next.
Naruto crossed his arms, glancing at Brandish, who looked just as confused as he felt. "Seriously, who is that guy? I've never seen him before."
Brandish frowned, her eyes narrowing in thought. "He doesn't seem like the friendly type."
Before they could say anything further, Erza approached them, her expression serious. Her usual authoritative aura was more intense than usual, and she seemed on high alert.
"That man." Erza said, her voice low but firm. "Is Jose Porla, the Master of Phantom Lord. Fairy Tail's biggest rival. He's also a member of the Wizard Saints like Makarov."
Naruto furrowed his brow. "Rival? I didn't know we had rivals like that."
Erza nodded, her gaze shifting toward Makarov's office door as if expecting trouble at any moment. "Phantom Lord and Fairy Tail have always competed to be the strongest guild. But Jose… he's a dangerous man. He's not the type to settle things peacefully. He and the Master actually got into a fight a few years back."
Brandish listened quietly, but there was a hint of annoyance in her eyes. "So why is he here? What does he want?"
Erza's eyes narrowed. "I don't know yet, but it can't be anything good. Jose's never been one to negotiate without an ulterior motive. Whatever he's planning, we need to be prepared."
Naruto glanced back at the door where Makarov and Jose had disappeared. "If it's that bad, shouldn't we get ready for a fight?"
Erza gave him a sharp look, but there was a glint of understanding in her eyes. "We won't start a fight unless it comes to that. Makarov will do everything he can to avoid unnecessary conflict, but… be on guard. We may have to act if things go south."
Brandish crossed her arms, her usual calm demeanor replaced with cautious concern. "Why would he walk into your guild for a fight? What's the gain?"
Erza let out a small, frustrated sigh. "Power. Influence. Control. Phantom Lord and Jose have always had an obsession with becoming the dominant guild in Fiore. To them, Fairy Tail is an obstacle in their path. If they can take us down, it solidifies their position. So what better way to demonstrate that power than to stroll into your enemies home, cause a scene and walk away untouched."
Naruto clenched his fists, his jaw tightening. "So they're just after power, huh? I hate people like that."
Erza nodded solemnly. "Exactly. Which is why we need to be cautious. Jose isn't above playing dirty, and he's willing to go to any lengths to achieve what he wants."
The room remained tense as the guild members whispered among themselves, each of them feeling the weight of the situation. The rivalry between Fairy Tail and Phantom Lord was well-known, but having Jose personally visit the guild meant something was brewing beneath the surface. Something none of them could predict yet.
Naruto glanced at Brandish, his expression softening slightly. "Stay close. If things go bad, I don't want you caught up in it. Me and Aquarius will keep you safe."
Brandish smirked, her usual confidence overflowing as she gave Naruto a teasing look. "Please. I'm not some damsel in distress. But I appreciate the concern."
Naruto chuckled, though the tension never fully left his body. Whatever was about to happen, they had to be ready for it. And if Jose Porla was truly as dangerous as Erza said, then this was far from over.
Eventually the door to Makarov's office creaked open, the entire guild fell silent, all eyes locked on the imposing figure of Jose Porla as he stepped back into the hall. His smirk was still plastered across his face, smug and confident, but there was no immediate hostility in his actions. He adjusted his coat, casting one last glance at the Fairy Tail members who watched him with suspicion, before making his way toward the exit.
Naruto tensed, instinctively gripping one of his gate keys as Jose passed by. He could feel the overwhelming power emanating from the man, a darkness that sent shivers down his spine. Brandish stood beside him, her eyes narrowed, she seemed more ready than anyone for a fight. Even Natsu, usually the first to start a fight, stood silently, fists clenched, waiting for something to happen.
Jose paused briefly at the door, turning back to face the guild. "Makarov, I trust you'll be ready when the time comes."
Makarov, who had followed him out, nodded once, his expression stern but unreadable. "We'll be prepared. Don't you worry about that."
With a final smirk, Jose left the guild hall, disappearing into the streets outside. As soon as the door closed behind him, the tension in the room broke. The murmurs of concern and confusion erupted, and it felt like everyone was holding their breath, unsure of what had just transpired.
"What's going on?" Natsu growled, breaking the silence. "Why was that guy here? Shouldn't we be smashing his face in?"
"Calm down, Natsu." Erza said, her voice sharp, but even she looked uneasy. "Let Master explain."
Makarov stepped forward, the weight of the decision clearly heavy on his shoulders. He looked out at the guild, his expression grim but resolute. "I know you're all on edge after seeing Jose Porla here, and you have every right to be. But I need you all to listen carefully." He paused, taking in the anxious faces of his guild members before continuing. "Fairy Tail and Phantom Lord will be joining forces."
The room erupted in disbelief. Shouts and cries all directed at Makarov.
"WHAT?" Natsu shouted, his voice filled with outrage. "Why would we team up with those jerks?"
"Master, you can't be serious!" Gray added, his usual cool demeanor shaken.
Even Naruto and Brandish exchanged looks of confusion, unsure of what to make of the situation. Teaming up with Phantom Lord? It sounded absurd, especially after what Erza had just told them about their rivalry.
Makarov held up a hand to silence the outcry. "I understand your anger, but this isn't about our rivalry with Phantom Lord. There's something bigger at stake here." He paused, his expression darkening. "The Balam Alliance. A powerful evil that threatens all of Fiore. Jose and I agreed that neither of our guilds can handle this alone. That's why we're joining forces. Fairy Tail and Phantom Lord are combining our might to eliminate these dark guilds."
The guild fell silent again, the weight of Makarov's words sinking in. An enemy powerful enough to force Fairy Tail and Phantom Lord to cooperate? That was no small matter.
Naruto frowned, stepping forward slightly. "What exactly are we dealing with, Master?"
Makarov's eyes met Naruto's, his expression grave. "The Balam Alliance is a hierarchy of dark guilds led by the three most prominent dark guilds in Fiore. Oración Seis, Grimoire Heart and Tartaros. They've been in hiding for years, building up their strength, and now they're making their move. They're responsible for a string of attacks and disappearances across Fiore, and their influence is constantly growing."
Gray raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued but cautious. "And Phantom Lord has agreed to help us take them down?"
Makarov nodded. "Yes. Jose and his guild will be joining us in the fight. We will be undertaking joint missions to eliminate smaller dark guilds under their umbrella. This will weaken the Balam Alliance and give us leads to locating the major three guilds. It's an arrangement to snuff dark guilds completely out of Fiore. I don't like Jose, but this is for the wellbeing of our kingdom."
There was an uproar of questions and complaints. It was obvious that the majority of the guild didn't agree with this joint agreement.
Erza stepped forward, her expression firm. "Master is right. We may not like Phantom Lord, but this seems like a logical step."
Naruto nodded his head in agreement. "Yeah we need to stop these dark guilds before their power gets out of control."
Natsu's fists were still clenched, but he growled in reluctant agreement. "Fine. But the second those Phantom Lord guys try anything, I'm burning them to the ground."
Makarov sighed but gave a small nod. "Let's focus on the task at hand, Natsu. There will be time to settle things with Phantom Lord later if need be. Right now our two guilds are the only in Fiore with the power to contest the Balam Alliance."
Naruto, still processing everything, glanced at Brandish. "Looks like things are about to get even crazier."
Brandish crossed her arms, a small smirk tugging at the corner of her lips. "Seems like it. Guess we are about to get busy."
Naruto arched his brow with a smirk. "Oh it's a we?"
Brandish rolled her eyes. "I'm only taking missions with you to keep you alive. Don't get any ideas Starblessed."
"And we will tag along!" Natsu roared loudly as he tossed an arm around Naruto and Brandish.
"Aye!"
Naruto grinned wide and Brandish looked annoyed. This was her first introduction to Fairy Tail and she would tell anyone who asked she hated it. Yet no matter what Brandish told herself. This was the start of her new home. A home she would grow to cherish.
(Later)
Naruto's apartment, small but cozy, was where Naruto and Brandish sat together on his tiny orange space was quiet, save for the occasional hum of the refrigerator or the faint sounds of the bustling street outside. They had recently returned from the guild and were finally enjoying a moment to themselves.
Brandish, lounging with one leg crossed over the other, was closer to Naruto than usual, her body turned slightly toward him. She took a sip of water, glancing at him over the rim of the glass. "You know." She started, her voice soft, "I didn't think I'd find myself hanging out like this with a guy like you."
Naruto chuckled, though he was feeling the weight of her words. His heart was pounding in his chest, and he could feel the closeness of her presence more than usual. "Yeah? And what kind of guy am I?" He asked, trying to keep his voice light, even though his thoughts were racing.
Brandish shrugged, a smirk playing on her lips. "The kind who doesn't know how to stop talking, but somehow… it's not annoying."
Naruto scratched the back of his head, feeling both flattered and nervous. He'd been getting the sense that something was changing between them. Something he wasn't quite sure how to handle. And now, as they sat in the dim light, he felt that tension growing, making his pulse quicken.
Suddenly, Brandish got up, stretching lazily as she walked toward the small kitchen. "I'm getting more water. Want anything?"
"No, I'm good!"
Naruto watched her go, swallowing hard. His mind raced. Was she just being friendly? Or was there something more? He couldn't tell, and that uncertainty was eating at him. He didn't want to assume anything and make a fool of himself. Or worse, make her uncomfortable. Yet the more he spent with Brandish the more he started to feel emotions he'd never felt for a girl before.
An uncharted territory where Naruto knew he needed reinforcements. Yet Libra was new and Aquarius was conniving. So he truly had one option.
In a sudden bout of panic, he stood up and quickly summoned Virgo. Shimmering the spirit into their world with a fast summon.
"Virgo!" He whispered, trying not to draw attention from the kitchen.
Virgo appeared in a flash of light, bowing deeply. "You called, Master?"
Naruto leaned in, speaking in a rushed, hushed tone. "Virgo, I need you to, uh, help me with something. I think I'm starting to like Brandish… But I don't want to mess things up or accidentally do something wrong. Can you… Just make sure I don't do anything stupid? Be my middle man?"
"Should I turn into a man?"
Naruto shook his head. "No, just make sure things don't get out of hand."
Virgo stood up straight, her face as serious as ever. "Understood, Master. I will ensure no inappropriate actions take place."
Naruto sighed in relief, though he still felt on edge. "Thanks, Virgo."
As Brandish returned to the couch, water in hand, she gave Naruto a curious look. "What's with Virgo?" She asked casually, sitting down beside him, once again a little too close for Naruto's peace of mind.
"Ah, nothing! She just popped by to say hello." He said, trying to downplay his nerves.
Brandish raised an eyebrow but let it go, sipping her water. "Right… So anyway. This Balam Alliance mess. I figured me and you could take a few of the assignments for eliminating dark guilds."
"Natsu and the others would like to join us." Naruto replied.
Brandish made a small pout and groaned. "Urgh. They're so loud and overbearing. That sounds miserable."
Naruto chuckled. "They grow on you, but we can do a few missions with just you and me."
"That's preferable."
They fell back into conversation, though the tension between them lingered in the air. Naruto felt his nerves rising with every passing minute, unsure how to handle the growing closeness between them. Brandish's occasional glances, the way her leg brushed against his. Every little touch made him second-guess his every move.
He had to ask himself, was this what it was like to have a crush? He needed to ask someone that wasn't Aquarius. He mused in thought that Makarov could be a potential source of advice. Yet the man was useless to him within his current living situation.
Just as the moment started to stretch into something more, Virgo abruptly stepped forward. "No intercourse."
Naruto choked on his breath, eyes wide. "V-Virgo!" He stammered, his face turning a deep shade of red. Realizing Virgo didn't exactly understand her assignment.
Brandish gave Virgo a long, confused look but said nothing, though Naruto could see the hint of amusement in her eyes. "What did she just say?"
Naruto scrambled to cover up Virgo's strange outburst. He was now trapped to either admit why he summoned her or just keep pushing forward and hope Virgo didn't say anything worse.
"Oh, nothing! She's just… uh, Virgo's really strict about personal space. You know, very professional."
Brandish chuckled, shaking her head. "If you say so…"
"Am I doing good, Master?" The pink haired spirit asked in an aloof tone.
Naruto groaned and touched his thumb to his finger. Sarcasm covering his words. "You're doing great Virgo."
Brandish leaned a bit closer, her arm brushing Naruto's own. "So, Naruto, what exactly is Virgo doing?"
Naruto gulped, his heart thudding in his chest. He was about to respond when Virgo suddenly stepped forward again. "Two feet of distance is recommended to avoid any misunderstandings."
Naruto groaned, dragging a hand over his face. "Virgo, please!"
Brandish smirked, clearly enjoying the chaos. She placed her hand lightly on Naruto's shoulder, looking at him with a teasing glint in her eyes. "What about direct contact?"
Virgo furrowed her brow and hummed to herself. "Mmmm no breeding!"
Naruto couldn't decide if he wanted to disappear or die. His thoughts were a mess, caught between Brandish's teasing and Virgo's overly vigilant watch. "Virgo this isn't helping." Naruto muttered, trying not to die of embarrassment.
Virgo craned her neck. "I'm confused, Master. Are you wanting to experience intercourse then?"
Naruto swung his head down like a hammer against his coffee table. Brandish on the other hand merely giggled and glanced between the wizard and spirit.
"Virgo no." Naruto mumbled through the wood.
The moment stretched, and despite Virgo's interference, Brandish didn't move away. If anything, she seemed to enjoy the tension it caused. Naruto couldn't help but notice how her hand stayed on his shoulder, her touch light but lingering. His thoughts whirled, but he couldn't help but feel like maybe. Just maybe. She was waiting for him to make a move.
"Don't even think about it!" Virgo suddenly said, her voice flat and authoritative.
Naruto flinched, holding up his hands in defeat. "I should have just summoned Aquarius."
Brandish let out a full laugh this time, shaking her head in disbelief. "Oh so you did summon her huh?"
Naruto blinked, her words finally sinking in. His eyes met hers, and for a brief second, he debated jumping out his window.
But just as he was about to move, Virgo stepped between them, her hands forcefully moving them apart. "No copulating."
Naruto slumped back against the couch, burying his face in his hands. "Okay, you're done." The embarrassed Celestial Spirit wizard mumbled before dismissing Virgo with a wave of his hand.
As Virgo vanished in a flash of light, Naruto let out a long, exasperated sigh, covering his face with his hands. "I should've known better..." He muttered to himself, his cheeks still burning with embarrassment.
Brandish, still laughing softly, shifted closer again, her fingers gently tapping Naruto's shoulder. "You know, if you're going to summon someone to keep an eye on us, you might want to choose someone who is a little more discrete." She teased, her voice warm.
Naruto slowly lifted his head, peeking at her through his fingers. "I swear she wasn't supposed to do that." His heart was still racing, but now that Virgo was gone, he found himself relaxing a bit. Though the tension between them hadn't disappeared.
Brandish tilted her head, a playful smile on her lips. "You're easy to embarrass. Especially for someone who saw me naked." She said, her tone light but holding a hint of something more. "Don't tell me I was the first girl you saw naked? There has been other girls, right?"
Naruto blinked, unsure how to respond. He wasn't even sure what he was feeling at the moment. For the longest time he was focused on his memories and past. Girls and feelings were always his last thought and Aquarius didn't exactly teach him about this topic.
So he was confused on so many levels. Was Brandish teasing him about his summoning? Or was she talking about... whatever this was between them? And Naruto swore he was crazy, but Brandish almost sounded like she was upset at the idea of him seeing other girls naked. He wasn't sure, and it made him feel all the more lost.
Naruto eventually decided to do what he was known for and wear his heart on his sleeve.
"I've never even hugged a girl besides my mom." Naruto began, which made Brandish giggle. Yet his next words stopped her amusement. "I was never taught about how to act around a girl. I lost my parents and my memories. So I just wanted to make sure I treated you with respect and didn't make an idiot out of myself."
Brandish's gaze softened as she leaned in, her voice dropping to a whisper. "Relax, Naruto. You don't have to try so hard. I've only ever hugged my mom too."
Naruto swallowed, feeling her closeness again. Her words were gentle, but they held a weight that sent his heart into overdrive. "I'm sorry for pulling Virgo into this. I should have just been honest with you." He admitted, his voice barely audible.
Brandish's hand lingered on his arm, and for a moment, they sat in silence, the hum of the refrigerator the only sound between them. Then, she smiled. a real, soft smile that Naruto wasn't used to seeing from her. "I think you're doing fine." She whispered, her voice sincere.
Naruto's chest tightened at her words, but this time, he didn't feel the same panic. Instead, he felt something else. A quiet, growing warmth. Maybe, just maybe, he wasn't messing this up after all.
The two sat there for a while longer, the weight of unspoken feelings filling the space between them. But for now, they were content to let things unfold, one moment at a time.
(Chapter End)
And there is the next update with big things set up moving forward. Cause if you can't tell there are some major changes happening that are going to shake things up moving forward and make things more exciting.
Also I hope you enjoy the start of Naruto and Brandish's relationship. For Naruto he's completely clueless to understanding how to act on his feelings and needs guidance. He's more of the fall first of the pair. Meanwhile Brandish is the more hesitant with both joining the guild and her feelings, but will lean more into the fall harder when things progress. Especially with the biggest arc I have planned.
Anyway thanks for reading and leave a review! Until next time.
