After all the sudden rush of questions and meeting the other Lucy, Team Natsu decided that it was best to follow the blonde woman to her home in the unknown town. It was a small place to say the least - more like a small village than a town. There were not a lot of shops and all the houses were pretty separated. It reminded Team Natsu of the villages of Galuna island and Cait Shelter. There were not a lot of people and it was peaceful.
It definitely was not the type of place any of the fairies would imagine Lucy staying at. Her living in Crocus would make more sense than this place. Especially with the way she was dressed. The blonde woman looked like she was ready to go and duke it out with some bandits or something. But none of the mages could see her whip or celestial spirit gate keys in sight. All of them could only assume she left them at her home not knowing what they were or she lost them.
It made them pray for her celestial spirits. Lucy did explain how her contracts with them worked and how they broke, but they wondered what the case would be like if the mage had amnesia. Hopefully, the contract was just on hold. But that was only one of the few things that the fairies wondered about the blonde woman in front of them. There were so many more. Like how did she get amnesia; how did she get there; where were their other selves; who exactly is this Lucy?
When they got to her house, it was a small cute home, kind of similar to Natsu and Happy's house but just a little bigger. They walked up the stairs of the porch and passed by the swing couch while the blonde woman opened the door. It was decorated similarly to how their Lucy decorated her apartment in Magnolia. Simple furniture and simple decorations to give a homey vibe.
Upon entering the home, they were met with Lucy's living room. A couch was propped up against a large window, a small side table with a lamp on its right and a large shelf of book taking up the entire wall on its left. A coffee table sat in front of it with two comfy beanbag chairs sat on the other side. Going deeper into the home, they passed by a dining table made for six and then the kitchen. A backyard door was at the very back wall which led to her small garden.
She led them up the stairs that were next to the backyard door and revealed four set of doors. On one wall, she emphasized that the door led to her room and did not want them to go in there. The one adjacent wall was the bathroom and the two other doors that were on the last wall were the two rooms that the four mages and two cats would share amongst themselves. Once that was settled, they went back to the living room to talk.
"Are you lot hungry?" Lucy asked while pouring some tea for everyone. "I figured we could eat while we talk."
"Uh sure! If you're okay with it." Wendy said for everyone.
They all looked around the room while the blonde moved about. Even though there were many books and decorations, there was not a single picture of Lucy, her parents or the guild like in her apartment. They still had not seen her celestial gate keys or her whip in sight either. "Something you need?" Lucy asked.
"Forgive us, we don't mean to be nosy," Erza apologized. "You may not believe us, but the reason we're here is to look for our friend who bears a strong resemblance to you."
"Oh? And who would that friend be?"
Gray picked up a cookie that was on one of the plates that Lucy set up on the coffee table. "To be blunt, she's another version of you. Her name is also Lucy Heartfilia."
"Heartfilia?" Lucy asked after she sat down on one of the beanbag chairs and drank some tea. "She has a last name?"
"You mean you don't have one?" Erza asked to which Lucy just shook her head.
"To say I don't might not be entirely correct either," she replied fidgeting with her tea cup. "Besides my first name and a guess to how old I am, all my memories have been wiped clean. It's been two years and nothing has come back to me."
"So you remember nothing at all?" Natsu asked, crossing his arms with a puzzled expression on his face. "Not even how you got here?"
She shook her head again. "Nothing. I've tried to think back, hopefully force my mind to show me anything, but blank."
This made the fairies pity the girl. She was alone in someone random town, with none of them to help her out and to remember the things she could not. It made them wonder if their Lucy was wondering where this version of herself is. Surely, considering how smart she was, she knew that the Fairy Tail she was at was not the one she was looking for. It made them wonder if their other selves surprised her too. This Lucy was completely different from her Edolas version anyway.
"Speaking of your memory, you said you have a guess to how old you are?" Carla asked. "How'd you find that out?"
The blonde woman chuckled and shifted in her seat to expose her stomach to them. The requip and ice mage, sky dragon slayer and white exceed stared and gasped in shock at the sight of her stomach, a small stitched scar somewhat next to her belly button. Natsu and Happy looked at it in confusion, not understanding why the others were gawking at it. But when the pink headed man saw at the serene smile on Lucy's face, he could tell she treasured that scar.
"I don't know why, but even though I don't have any memories, I just have this feeling that I wouldn't want a child until I was late into my twenties and early thirties," she said which made Natsu and Happy fully understand the meaning of the scar. "If I have this, that must mean I have a family out there right?"
The fairies looked at her sparkling eyes, how hopeful and excited she was just thinking about the family waiting for her somewhere. If she had a child, who was the father? And does that mean that their other selves have children too? Similar questions followed through their heads. But then, it made them all realize, just how far were they in the future!? If this Lucy was pushing thirty, what about them?
"No way... Lucy's old now!?" Natsu and Happy cried while hugging each other, causing the others to look at them with disappointment and Lucy to look at them with a confused but fond expression.
She chuckled, making them all look at her as she fixed her top. "You guys are so silly," she stated. "Now that I think about it, I realize that you lot know who I am but due to my memory loss, I don't know your names. May you tell them to me?"
"Oh yeah," Gray said realizing they were jumping too many formalities even though she, technically, did not know them. "Our bad. The name's Gray Fullbuster."
"My name is Erza Scarlet."
"I'm Wendy Marvell, and this is my exceed Carla."
"Pleasure to meet you again."
"You can call me Happy!"
"Call me Natsu! Natsu Dragneel."
"Gray, Erza, Wendy, Carla, Happy and Natsu huh?" Lucy recited, looking at each one of them and committing their faces to memory. "The other me must be lucky to have you guys as her friends. I bet you lot have been on many adve-"
Lucy stopped her sentence abruptly, a migraine travelling across her head like a tsunami. She rested her forehead on the palm of her hand, her body trembling as she tried to endure the pain. She could hear muffled voices in her head, saying things she could not decipher well. Flashes of images she had never seen before faded in and out of her mind. A port town. A boat. Water. And soldiers.
Team Natsu gathered around her immediately, with the fire dragon slayer kneeling in front of her while Wendy used her magic to check her condition from behind. The blonde woman was shaking while mumbling incoherent sentences and phrases. Even with his heightened hearing, Natsu could not properly understand her words. It was only when she barely managed to move her gaze to meet eye contact with him that he noticed the flame tattoo on her neck lighting up and smoke rose from it.
"Whoa, that mark-" he said causing Erza, Gray, Happy and Carla to also look at the flame tattoo.
"It's smoking?" Happy asked.
Gray slowly inched his hand forward towards it before backing away swiftly. "The thing is scorching but I don't think it's actually hurting her."
Wendy finally put her hands down and dismissed her healing spell. "I've done what I can to soothe her migraine but I think the mark is responding to whatever she's feeling."
Natsu continued to look at the flame tattoo with worry, Lucy was breathing heavy but luckily she was not hyperventilating so he surmised that Gray and Wendy were right. Suddenly, his attention was brought back to meet her gaze when the blonde woman used her free hand to grab his hand that rested next to her thigh. He did not know what was going on but Natsu noticed that he could feel her surging magic power move through her body just by their physical contact - and it felt like fire.
He guessed she could feel the same energy because after another minute, she pulled him forward, bringing the palm of his hand to rest against her scorching tattoo. It did not burn him but instead cooled at his touch almost immediately. They all watched as the smoke died down and her body start relaxing. Natsu could feel her magic power calm down too and the fiery feeling dissipate. Lucy passing out in the process into Natsu's arms.
"What on earth was that?" Erza finally asked, baffled by what she just witnessed.
"If the mark was responding to what she was feeling, what emotion triggered it?" Carla added.
"I'm more curious to know why it stopped when Natsu touched the tattoo," Wendy said tracing the pattern with her finger. "Lucy doesn't know or remember that Natsu is a fire dragon slayer, but she took his hand anyway."
"Could you sense something when you touched it, Natsu?" Erza asked him while he brought Lucy to lay down on her couch.
The fire dragon slayer said nothing as he fixed the blonde woman into a comfortable position. He moved any hair that was in her face away and fixed her hands so they rested on top of her stomach. The fire he felt passing through her body was nothing normal, but he could tell it was not dangerous. It felt like the feeling he gets whenever he drinks something warm. It was protective and it felt like it was searching for something.
"...Like mine." he muttered under his breath making the others raise an eyebrow.
"What'd you say, Flame Brain?" Gray asked.
"There's some magic connected to the mark," Natsu said more clearly, placing a hand on the nape of her neck where the tattoo was and running his thumb across it. "And it felt a lot like mine."
"But how is that possible!?" Happy exclaimed.
"Maybe it's like what we thought," Carla said looking at Lucy while the others looked at her. "Perhaps it's the doing of another Natsu. It's clear that this place is not Edolas, but likely some time in our future. This Lucy was separated from Fairy Tail which would mean our Lucy would likely be with them."
"So if we want to go find our Lucy, we would need to figure out where we are and find a route that would bring us back to Magnolia." Erza noted.
"And if we bring this Lucy with us, maybe she can remember her own memories as we travel," Wendy added. "Or maybe the Fairy Tail here could help figure out how to get them back."
"Let's talk about this with her once she wakes up," the requip mage suggested as she brought all the dirty dishes to the kitchen sink. "She hasn't left this place in two years so she should decide whether to leave or not. We should also learn how she settled here and such, maybe it can give us a clue as to what happened to her."
The mages and exceeds all nodded at the plan before getting up settle themselves in Lucy's home while said blonde slept. Wendy went to help Erza with the dishes while Happy and Carla went to check guest bedrooms they would be staying in. Gray went to freshen up in the bathroom and Natsu stayed by Lucy's side. There was something else about the blonde woman he could not properly pinpoint. There was a feeling he got from her that was not necessarily off, but concerning.
The way she looked at him before using his hand to cool down her tattoo looked like she was trying to determine if using him would work. Like the feeling he got when she grabbed his hand was mutual. This other self of his that was probably in the other Fairy Tail, the fire dragon slayer wondered what the relationship between him and this Lucy was like. If they were in the future, why was Lucy in this town instead of with him?
Natsu did not like thinking. It hurt his brain too much. Lucy was much more smarter than him. She probably would have some kind of theory all figured out by now, whether it be right or wrong was a different story. Nevertheless, it would have been a better lead than what they had going on right now. Natsu placed his head on the couch, his head directly above the blonde's head and he just stared at her blonde hair while taking in her scent.
"Luce..." he mumbled while missing his blonde partner. "I'll find you. I promise."
