Phantom in the moonlight

There was more to the tale "Mare in the moon", something that Celestia had kept to herself all this time. But as the time of Nightmare Moon's release quickly approached, the secret she held is soon to reveal itself, and a pony no one knew about will come to Equestria's aid. He just came from the last place anypony could think of.

Chapter 11: Off to see Zecora

All the mares stared at Danny as it was clear that out of all the changes that happened to them, Danny had the most extreme.

Danny yawned wide before he rubbed his face with his hoof. "What's wrong, everybody?"

The girls looked at each other before Twilight stepped forward.

"Danny, we were all cursed by Zecora and it looks like you were hit with the worst of it." She gestured to all of them as it was clear that there was something wrong with them.

Danny frowned at that but his eyes were still shut from his sleepiness. "I told all of ya that she didn't curse us. Stop being a bunch of meanies." He yawned again as he was still sleepy and wanted to continue to sleep.

Pinkie Pie popped up in front of him as she shook her head while speaking through her swollen tongue. "Frrr pbbbllttt! Ah burssss, thesssss ggghhhttthththttttthhhhh."

Danny groaned, ignoring or not noticing the spit hitting his face, as he shook his head. "She is a nice mare, Pinkie. How would you feel if somepony said you were cursing everypony you saw?"

Pinkie frowned sadly as she knew she would not like it if she was called as such.

Rarity tilted her head as she asked. "You understood her?"

Danny nodded as he turned his head toward Rarity. "Why wouldn't I?" He didn't understand why he wouldn't be able to understand Pinke since what she said was clear.

The mares looked at each other again before Twilight spoke up once more.

"Danny, I think you should open your eyes to see what is going on."

Danny shook his head before crossing his hooves. "Don't wanna."

Rarity let out an exasperated sigh. "Darling, you really should wake up so you can help us with our current predicament."

Danny dropped back into his beanbag and grabbed the blanket to cover himself. "Make me!"

The mares were confused as to why Danny was acting like this. If they didn't know any better, he was acting like a colt.

AppleJack jumped up on top of Fluttershy's head and shouted as loud as she could, which wasn't much. "Now y'all better get up or Imma make sure ya don't get any desert for the next week!"

Danny's eyes shot open and threw his blanket off him as he gave a small glare at where the voice came from. "You can't do that! That's not fair!" He was finally fully awake and looked toward Applejack to see that she was tiny, like toy size. Once that registered in his head, he looked at every one of the mares and saw that they were all affected by something. Well, except Fluttershy but it looked like she was just trying to hide herself from everything.

Each of the mares expected him to start laughing at the sight of their curses, yet instead, all he did was tilt his head.

Danny wondered what happened to them to cause all of these issues. As he analyzed them, he noticed that Pinkie Pie's tongue had blue spots all over it, just like Twilight's horn. He decided to get a closer look and took a step off his beanbag, "WAH!" only to fall face-first on the ground. "Ow." for some reason, the ground was further from him than before.

"Danny! Are you ok?"

Danny opened his eyes and blinked as the voice that spoke was way too deep for anyone he knew of. He looked up to see Fluttershy worrying about him and tilted his head as he got up on his hooves. He was about to ask if she was the one that spoke but he realized that she was taller than him. He looked around and saw it was the same for all of them other than Applejack. "Uh…."

Applebloom walked up to him and smiled. "Wow, looks like I'm taller than ya."

Danny looked at her and saw she was about half an inch taller than he was. He then looked down at himself and saw that there was something wrong with him. He wasn't in his normal unicorn form but rather in his phantom form. "Woah!" He spun around, looking himself over to affirm that he had gotten younger. "What happened?"

Rarity stepped forward, doing her best not to fall over by her dreads, and spoke. "Darling, we've been cursed by Zecora. I know that you said that she is a fair pony, but this happened after we met her. She is the only one that could have done this to us."

Danny looked at her before rolling his eyes. "Just cause it looks like it doesn't mean that it is. Maybe something else happened to us and she was just the last mare we met before it hit us. Remember, we met her yesterday and we all went back home with nothing happening. Maybe something happened to us during the night and we just didn't see it."

Rainbow Dash crashed into a bookshelf before shaking her head. "Yeah, like Zecora placing a curse on us!"

Twilight looked up at Rainbow Dash with a frown. "It's not a curse!"

Applejack hopped onto a nearby table as she spoke up. "A Hex than."

Twilight grew frustrated at how the girls were saying it was a curse of hex when those don't exist. "It's not a hex either!"

Danny groaned as the girls began to bicker amongst themselves till he noticed Sike looking at a book. Feeling curious, he walked up to him and asked. "Whatcha reading, Spike?"

Spike looked over his shoulder at Danny before he held up the book. "I found this book while going through the others as Twilight was trying to find a way to fix her horn. I tried to show it to her but she said it was all hooey. Said spirits, voodoos, and hexes are just make-believe."

Danny read the book title before he gave Spike an amused expression. "'Spirits'? I can guarantee that spirits are actually real." He brought his hooves up to his eyes and opened his eyelids wide. "I seen 'em."

Spike chuckled at that before the two looked at the girls. "What do you think is going on?"

Danny shrugged. "Dunno, but I'm sure we can find a way to fix all of us." He noticed Applebloom walking away from the others, with Applejack jumping into her tail. He was about to go after her until he heard Rainbow Dash exclaim to Twilight.

"I'm telling you that we should pony up and force Zecora to fix us! Are you with me, girls!"

The other mares nodded in agreement as they wanted to get fixed up as soon as they could.

Fluttershy was the only one who was hesitant to go after the zebra. In a deep voice, she spoke "Ooh, I don't know, it could be dangerous."

Danny froze as he heard the voice and he walked up to her with wide eyes. "Woah~. That voice is cool."

Fluttershy blushed at the compliment and bashfully kicked the ground.

Rainbow Dash floated over them as she cried out. "Now isn't the time. We need to head over to Zecora and get ourselves fixed up! Come on, Applejack, you with us?" she looked over to the table to see what the farm pony had to say but she didn't see any sign of the shrunken pony.

They were all confused as to where Applejack might have gone, as she didn't say anything about it.

After they looked around for a moment, Rarity cried out. "She's gone!" she then gasped as she thought of a horrible tragedy. "Did one of us step on her?!"

Danny looked at the mares as he brought up a hoof. "Uh, girls."

Twilight looked at Danny with panic. "Not now, Danny, we might have just stepped on Applejack." her eyes widened as she thought of something else. "Or maybe sat on her!"

Danny watched all the mares look at their flanks to make sure they didn't sit on the small pony. "Girls."

Rainbow Dash finished looking at her flank, despite the fact that she had been in the air all this time, and noticed another missing mare. "Applebloom is missing too!"

Twilight then noticed the door was open and came to the conclusion that the two apple mares must have left. "They must be going after Zecora."

Rainbow Dash pointed a hoof at the door till her wings launched her into the ceiling. "Ow, let's go after them! They're gonna need our help getting Zecora to fix us!"

Twilight nodded as she gestured for them all to follow. "Come on, girls, we should hurry and catch up with them!"

All the mares left the library to chase after the Apples, with Rainbow Dash crashing into the area just above the door before flying through and Rarity tripping on her dreads.

Danny blinked as he watched them all leave, and he couldn't help but roll his eyes as he grumbled. "I was trying to tell you that they left a while ago." he straightened up before looking at Spike. "You coming?"

Spike shook his head as he lifted up a quill and piece of parchment. "Nah, gonna stay here and think up some names for Twilight."

The two had a small laugh as Danny floated off the ground.

"Alright, I'm gonna make sure the girls don't get into trouble." He nodded to Spike until he looked at the book Spike was reading before. "Hey, Spike…"

Applebloom was running through the forest with the goal of reaching Zecora and asking her to help her big sister and friends. As she was running, her mind went back to all the problems that occurred with the others. She couldn't help but find it a little funny how each of the older mares was inflicted with silly curses, but she knew they had to fix it. Her mind went to Danny and how he was adamant about Zecora not being the one to do this to them, but she had no idea who else could be the culprit. She focused on Danny and thought it was cool how he had become her age, but she needed to focus on what she had to do right now.

"Hold your horses, lil' missy!"

Applebloom came to a skidding stop as she looked around for her sister as she recognized that voice. She felt something move in her mane and looked up in time to see Applejack pop out of it.

Applejack looked down and pointed her hoof in the opposite direction. "You turn 'round right this minute, Applebloom!"

The young filly smirked as she gave a haughty. "No."

Applejack's eyes widened as she heard this. "'No'? You can't disobey yer big sister." she would have continued to reprimand the young filly, but she found herself being thrown into the air by a jolt of the young filly's head and caught by her teeth.

Applebloom placed Applejack on an elevated branch as she gave her sister a cheeky smile. "Sorry, Applejack, but Ah'm the big sister now."

Applejack frowned as she shouted. "Applebloom! It's too dangerous for a young filly to wander in there!"

Applebloom frowned as she looked over her shoulder. "No, it ain't. If Danny can do it, Ah can too."

Applejack shook her head. "You ain't Danny. He can handle a lot! More than any pony I know, so you can't compare yerself to him!"

"Yes, Ah can!" she ran off, leaving Applejack so she could find Zecora.

"Applebloom! Imma tell Danny on ya!"

Applebloom paused at the comment, and she considered it for a moment before she grew determined once more and ran off.

Applejack huffed as she saw her sister run off. She looked around and saw that she was trapped on the branch. "Oh, Ponyfeathers."

The mares were walking through the forest as they were afraid of what they might run into if they rushed. They knew that they had to get there fast, but if they ran into any danger, it would slow them down even more.

Danny was lying back on Pinkie Pie's back, wearing a satchel that Spike helped put on him and a book in his hooves.

Twilight took tentative steps as she looked around for anything dangerous. "Careful, girls, we don't know what could be in here."

Dany waved a hoof in the air as he kept reading. "I can tell you that there are a bunch of weird stuff in here. Last time I crashed here, I swore I saw a two-headed bird flying."

Twilight rolled her eyes. "Danny, there are no such things as two-headed birds."

Danny looked over his shoulder and pouted at her. "But I saw!" came his whiny retort.

Twilight shook her head. "Not now, Danny, we need to focus."

Danny huffed as he looked back at his book.

Rarity shook her head. "Honestly, Darling, you are acting like a colt. We are in dire need of your assistance - oh!" She was interrupted when she tripped on her hair once more, getting leaves and twigs stuck in her dreads. "Like now, for instance."

Danny giggled at the sight before his eyes caught something. He jumped off Pinkie's back and ran off, placing the book onto Fluttershy's back as he ran past her.

He jumped into a bush, causing the girls to gasp in concern.

Twilight was about to run after him as she was worried he might get hurt. "Danny!"

Danny's head popped out of the bush, and looked at the mares in confusion. "What?"

Rainbow Dash frowned at him as she pointed at him. "We all need to stick together if we want want to get Zecora to- Whoa!" She couldn't finish as she ended up crashing into a tree.

Danny gave Rainbow Dash a flat look before he ducked back into the bush and came out with a vine in his mouth. Using his powers, he flew out of the bush and floated over to Rainbow Dash. "few nee ta schtot using yer yings, hright now." He dropped the vine before lowering his head and biting down on it to cut it. After he did that, he used his teeth to grab the vine and phased into the ground before he flew around the grounded Rainbow Dash. Using his hooves and teeth, he was able to tie the vine around her torso and keep her wings tied down. Proud of himself for getting it right, he looked over to Rarity before he grabbed the cut vine and flew over to her.

After he turned her intangible so that all the debris would fall off her, and after a bit of a struggle getting the vines to work with him, he was able to tie back Rarity's hair so that she would be able to see and tie the dreads of her body to the back so she would be able to move easier.

Rarity smiled at how she was now able to move with little issue. "Thank you ever so much, darling."

Danny beamed at her thanks before he looked at Rainbow Dash. "You're gonna have to use your hooves for now till we fix this."

Rainbow Dash groaned as she looked at her tied-down wings. "Seriously?"

Dany shrugged as he floated over her, almost teasingly. "Hey, Fluttershy is walking, and you don't hear her complain." he flew over to the shy pegasus before he picked up his book and laid his stomach on her back. He moved his head next to her and excitedly spoke to her. "Hey, Fluttershy…" he whispered in her ear as he wanted her to do something.

Fluttershy lowered her head as she slowly shook her head.

Danny pouted at her rejection. "Aw, come on, please~" he gave her a puppy-eyed stare, which caused the mare to whine before nodding. "Yay!"

Fluttershy lifted her head and sighed. She looked over her shoulder to look at him. "Luke, I am your father."

Danny was wide-eyed at it before he hugged her. "That was awesome!"

Fluttershy blushed at the hug. She didn't know why he wanted her to say that, but if it made him happy, she was ok with it.

The mares began to move once more as they were making very slow progress.

After a few minutes, Rainbow Dash wined out. "This is taking forever! We should be moving fast to get to Zeocra's."

Twilight nodded. "I know, but we don't know what dangers there are in the forest. Better to be safe than sorry. And we need to be at our best in case we need to fight Zecora."

Danny looked ahead to the purple mare. "But I keep telling you that she isn't-"

"Not now, Danny, we need to be alert." She didn't want to be mean to Danny, but he wasn't seeing the danger Zecora was. If the zebra could curse them all, who knows what else she could do? She still didn't believe in curses or hexes, but whatever spell Zecora did, she was powerful.

Danny frowned at the dismissal but just shrugged. He looked back at Fluttershy as his smile came back. "Ok, now say…." he whispered something else in her ear, and she was starting to blush every time he did.

Fluttershy was starting to be ok with all the things he asked her to say and just nodded. This time, he asked for two things, and it reminded her of young colts and their excitement in saying everything at once. "Everything the light touches is our kingdom." She smiled as Danny clapped his hooves at this. She started to feel like she was doing a performance, one she didn't mind. Moving on, she said the next thing. "My name is Optimus Prime."

Danny laughed as he thought it was the most awesome thing to hear these lines. He hugged Fluttershy again as he was super thankful for her doing this.

The other mare didn't know why he was asking Fluttershy to say these weird lines, but seeing him laugh, they figured it was alright.

Danny finished laughing and looked back into the forest. He lifted his head before he floated off Fluttershy and flew back into the forest.

The mares didn't know why he kept doing this. Every now and then, he would stop and fly into the forest before coming back. They asked him, but all he told them was that he saw something interesting.

This time, Danny came out of the forest and called to the mares. "Hey, girls! Look who I found." He held up his hooves to reveal that he had found Applejack.

Twilight was relieved to see her missing friend safe. "Applejack, you're ok."

Applejack shook her head. "Ah'm fine, but Applebloom is off to Zecora's! We gotta move and stop her!"

Twilight nodded. "We are heading there now. We still have to be cautious as we get moving, but we should pick up the pace."

The other mares nodded as they began to move, with a bit more speed to their pace.

Danny looked at the tiny Applejack before he figured that he should just put her on his head for now. She brought her up to his mane and put her there just before flying after the mares.

Applejack felt her hooves cool when she stood on his mane, but she soon fell into his mane. She popped out of it as she wrapped her hooves around her body, and shivered. "Hooy~ your mane is colder than a frozen apple pie, Sugarcube."

Danny looked up and smiled sheepishly. "Sorry, Applejack." His eyes caught sight of something else and flew toward it before he made a U-turn and flew back to Fluttershy and laid on her back. He laid on his back this time and opened the book again but frowned as he continued to read.

Applejack was too preoccupied with getting to Applebloom to pay attention to what Danny was reading, though she was wondering why he was reading at this time when they were in the middle of a crisis.

Danny flipped the pages back and forth as his frown grew deeper. "Oh, come on!" He looked up from his book to look around and paused when he noticed that they were already at Zecora's. "When did we get here?"

"What if she is making Applebloom soup!?"

Danny blinked as he had no idea what he missed since it looked like the mares were in the middle of another superstitious assumption. He looked back at his book before closing it and holding it up. "How engrossed was I in this book?" He suddenly felt his head be kicked off by a tiny pony and looked to his right to see Applejack jumping on top of Rainbow Dash.

Applejack undid the vine around her wings and kicked the cyan pegasus on a spot to cause a reaction.

"What the?!" Rainbow Dash found herself moving against her will, flying into the air and launching into Zecora's house.

The other mares nodded to each other before they charged after them.

Danny fell off Fluttershy as she ran off and found himself falling to the ground with a grunt. "Oof! Ok, this is getting too crazy." He ran in after them to try and stop them from doing something they might regret. Once he came in, he saw the girls were making a mess of things.

Knocking over shelves

"Girls."

Throwing ingredients onto the ground

"Girls!"

knocking a cauldron over

"Girls!"

tearing curtains

"Stop!"

And basically breaking the whole place apart.

"THAT'S ENOUGH!" Danny's horn and eyes lit up in light as a wave of misty energy exploded from him. Once it swept over the mares, each of them was levitated from the ground before they were held up in the air. Danny blinked, and the light from his eyes and horn vanished as he looked at what he had done. "Woah,-" he looked up at his horn in awe. "- how did I do that?"

Zecora shook herself out of her shock as she noticed Danny. "Though my heart is swelling, what are you doing in my dwelling?!"

Danny could see that Zecora was mad and felt a little hesitant to tell her, but he steeled himself and stepped forward. He opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted by Applejack.

"We came here to stop ya from making soup of mah sister!"

Zecora blinked in confusion to the odd statement. She looked to Danny as if he would have the answer.

Danny pointed a hoof at the floating mares as he answered. "We were looking for her sister, Applebloom. We know she was heading here, but…" He looked around for any sign of the filly. "...we don't know where she is."

Zecora gestured to the knocked-over pot as she gave a glare to the floating mares. "Ingredients I need from Applebloom, if not, it will spell out your doom."

Rainbow Dash struggled as she tried to move her hooves, but she was able to shout her anger. "If you think we are gonna make it easy for you to make soup out of us, I'll show you earth ponies aren't the only ones that know how to buck!"

"Soup of pony is not what I desire, your ailment is much more dire." Zecora looked at Danny as she had never seen such a reaction from the Poison joke.

"Zecora, I got your ingredients!" Applebloom came in through the door with a smile before it dropped at the sight of the house. "What happened?"

Dany gained a flat expression before he pointed a hoof upward. "The girls went overboard and made a complete mess of things."

Twilight looked over to Applebloom as she spoke frantically. "We were trying to stop Zecora from turning you into soup and to remove this curse."

When she finished her statement, Applebloom and Zecora had a small laugh.

Applebloom looked up at Twilight as she asked. "Oh, Twilight, did those silly fillies finally get in your head?" She began to walk under the floating mares and toward Zecora. "There is no curse."

Zecora nodded as she looked up at the mares. "If you refer to your aliments, in fact, my previous words were quite exact. 'Beware, beware, you pony folk, those leaves of blue are not a joke'."

Applebloom nodded as she looked at the mares. "She was warning us about the blue plant that you walked in. It's called Poison Joke, it's what caused all of the stuff that happened to you."

Danny tilted his head as he asked. "Are you telling me that plant is the reason Twilight's horn to become floppy, Rainbow Dash to have upside-down wings, Applejack to be tiny, Rarity to have weird hair, Pinky to have puffy tongue, Fluttershy to have the voice of an awesome actor, and for me to be so small?"

Zecora nodded. "Indeed, my young friend, this potion was to be its end." She gestured to the knocked-over pot which had several herbal plants being visible.

Danny looked at the spilled-over antidote before he looked up at the girls. "See, I told you so."

Twilight looked at the pot before at the Zebra. "But I tried to find a cure for all this, but I couldn't find anything in all my books."

Zecora walked over to the table that was thankfully still upright and gestured to the book that was on it. "This read is very merry, it is a pity you don't have it in your library." She closed the book to reveal the title.

Twilight saw the title of the book, and her ears pinned to the back of her head. "I uh…"

"You mean this one?" Danny held up the book he was reading to show that it was the same book Zecora had.

Applejack was really wanting to get out of whatever spell Danny used to keep them frozen in the air. She looked at Danny and asked. "Is that what you been reading all this time?"

Danny nodded. "Yeah, when I found this, I saw something that sounded like it was what happened to us." he flipped the page to the start of the section and found the name. "It's called…. Pa…. pasalaw…. Polawa…" He groaned as the official scientific name was too long for him. His eyes shifted to the parenthetical section right next to it. "Oh, here it is. Poison Joke."

Twilight realized that she had the ability to find the cure this whole time, yet she brushed it aside due to the name of the book. But now that she got a good look, she saw the subtitle of the book. "Remedies that are naturally super." she dropped as she looked at the zebra apologetically. "Sorry, Zecora, it turned out that I did have the book, but I brushed it off because I thought it was talking about curses and the like."

Zecora chuckled at that. "Perhaps next time you will take a second look before judging the cover of the book."

Danny smiled before he walked up to Zecora. "Zecora, do you mind if you whip up another batch of the antidote?" He turned his head to grab the satchel he had. "Iff gotff alotff of the ingredientss here."

Applebloom smiled as she walked up next to Danny. "I got them too." She then looked up at the mares. "But there is one ingredient that she said she needs from Ponyville, but every time she goes there, the shops are closed."

Danny pouted as he figured that they should fix that now. "We can fix that when we get to town. Then you can help us get rid of this PJ issue."

Zecora nodded as she looked at the shrunken pony. "Accept your favor, I must, for fixing your age is just."

Danny smiled up at her as he was glad they could get this fixed.

"Hey, what about us?" Rainbow Dash cried out as she did not like being stuck in one pose for long.

Danny looked up at the mares before he sheepishly rubbed his head. "Uh… I don't know how to undo it."

After about twenty minutes, the spell finally wore off, and the Mane Six were able to move.

Rainbow Dash was the most excited to be able to move again.

After that, they all went to Ponyville in order to finally get this ailment fixed. They all went to the spa as they had the largest tub they could use to fix them all.

As they soaked in the bath, they found themselves all being fixed and back to normal.

[Dear, Princess Celestia, my friends and I have all learned a valuable lesson today. That you can't judge a book by its cover, no matter how silly it might come off as at the beginning. Even if they may seem strange at the beginning, you should learn more about them in order to better understand them. That is how you make a real friend that will last forever.

Something else I learned is that I should trust in the word of my friend. They might know the situation better than you, and you should always consider what they have to say.]

Twilight sighed as the bath she and the other mares were having was extremely relaxing. The herbs made the water just seep into their bodies and relieve them of all stress. "I don't think I've had a bath this relaxing before."

Rarity smiled as she threw her hair over her shoulder. "Trust me, dear, this spa has so many other services that will just remove all tension from your body."

Applejack popped up from the water and shook her head. "Gonna have to check this out after a hard week's work. Might help with my sore shoulders every once in a while."

Fluttershy nodded as she spoke in her normal voice. "Oh yes, it is really nice." Wondering how Danny was doing, she moved to the edge of the tub and looked down at the smaller tub he was using. "What about you, Danny." she paused when she saw that the tub was empty.

Rainbow Dash saw this and looked around for him. "Speaking of, where is he?"

The girls looked around for him till they saw his hair on the surface, in the tub they were in.

Rainbow Dash frowned at that as she made her way toward him. "Hey, don't you know it's rude to come into the same tub as a mare?"

Rarity nodded as she covered her chest with her hooves. "Indeed, such a scandal, Darling."

Danny looked over his shoulder and smiled at them. "But you girls got the bigger tub. Why can't I enjoy it too?"

The mares froze as they saw Danny. He had turned back into his normal pony form…..but…. He had lost his horn. Not only that-

Danny tilted his head. "What's wrong, girls?"

He was still a colt and had wings.

I am sorry that it took me over a year to write the next chapter. I just kept coming up with a bunch of ideas and they kinda took over. I promise the next chapter will not take so long
