In the bustling New York City, skyscrapers are towering like giants, and a sunset paints the sky in hues of orange and purple. The streets below are bustling with commuters, unaware of the impending chaos above.
The Sinister Six has gathered on the rooftop of an abandoned building, plotting their next move against Spider-Man and his allies. Doctor Octopus, Vulture, Scorpion, Shocker, Rhino, and Electro stand in a tight circle, their sinister intentions palpable in the air. They all exited the bank carrying a bundle of cash in their hands, seeing that they managed to escape the light of the police.
Doctor Octopus grinned as he marched out of the bank with a load of cash in each of his arms. "With Spider-Man out of the picture, we can finally take control of this city.
Electro came zipping in while crackling with energy. "Yeah, and once we take him down, the rest will fall like dominoes!"
Suddenly, a flash of fire and a burst of webbing tear through the air as Spider-Man swings into view, followed closely by the Human Torch, which is engulfed in flames. Peter came in and landed on top of a light post while Johnny flew over aside from his friend.
Peter playfully started to mock them. "Sorry to crash your little party, Doc! But I hear you're looking for a few good webs and a whole lot of heat!"
"And we brought the fireworks!" Johnny stated.
Shocker snarled and aimed his gauntlets. "You're outnumbered, web-slinger. We will enjoy taking you down!"
Peter and Johnny shrieked as they jumped out of the way to avoid the blasts, but they needed to play this smart since they were outnumbered.
"I thought it was a party!" Peter stated as he jumped out of the way.
The Sinister Six sprung into action as they went to strike against their enemy. Vulture swoops down, launching razor-sharp feathers at Spider-Man, who expertly dodges and counters with webbing, ensnaring the Vulture mid-air.
"You really should consider a new line of work, Vulture!" Peter mocked as he slammed Vulture into the nearest wall. "Maybe something that doesn't involve risking your neck!"
Meanwhile, Human Torch zooms toward Electro, unleashing a torrent of flames. He shot them around Electro, but he managed to zap himself away and move around the fire and try to escape. But that didn't help as he then ran into Johnny yet again.
"Time for a little heat wave!" Johnny shouted as he shot Electro.
Electro retaliates by firing bolts of electricity, but Torch twists in the air, dodging the strikes. "You think you can outrun lightning, firefly?!"
"I seem to be pretty good so far," Johnny stated as he flew around. "Or maybe you're just sluggish."
Torch ignites a fiery spiral around Electro, forcing him to retreat. On the other side, Rhino came charging as he used his massive horn aimed at Spider-Man. Peter couldn't dodge the strike as he was sent flying and crashed into a window. He groaned as he got up and saw he landed in some playroom. He then looked over and saw a kid in the room playing with a Spider-Man action figure.
"Hey." Peter greeted him and looked down at the toy. "I never got residuals for those, you know?" He then stood back up and he looked out the window. "Alright," he then cracked his neck with his shoulders. "Back in the game!" He then came leaping out the window and began swinging around Rhino. "Okay, Rhino, seriously, this is getting repetitive." He then webbed a piece of debris and threw it towards Rhino. "I mean, don't you ever wanna change things up? Maybe go on safari?"
"I'll safari your face!" Rhino cried, swatting Peter as he swung around.
"Well, that was almost a full sentence, Alexsi," Peter stated as he landed on Rhino's back.
Shocker leaps forward, brandishing his weapon, and charges it at Rhino's back. "I will take you down myself!"
But before Shocker can strike, Human Torch dives in, creating a wall of fire that forces Shocker back.
"Sorry, knuckles! You're not getting past this flame!" Johnny stated, creating another flame in his fist.
Then, Scorpion came in and went to strike him, causing Peter to miss Rhino as he jumped out of the way. "Hello, Spider-Man!"
"Scorpion!" Peter said cheerfully. "Hey, man." He then dodged another swing from the tail. "Did you change your hair? I can never tell under the mask."
But Doctor Octopus sees his chance to strike while he is dodging Scorpion. He launches his mechanical tentacles at Spider-Man, who senses it coming and narrowly dodges. Octavius managed to however damage knocked Scorpion down.
"Enough games, Spider-Man!" Octavius cried in anger, preparing to strike again.
"And you call yourself a doctor?" Peter asked as he shot two webs and dodged two of his tendrils. "You really need to work on your bedside manner, Doc!"
As the battle rages on, Human Torch and Spider-Man coordinate their attacks, creating a dazzling display of fire and webbing. Johnny shoots fire, which causes Otto to try to block the flames with his arms. That gave Peter the opening to swing in and shoot two webs to yank his arms and cause the old man to get thrown back.
Otto let out a groan as he made a resounding thud upon hitting the ground. "You…" His words seized their attention. "You failed to keep count."
In unison, they readied themselves to unleash a swirling, fiery webbing attack to ensnare the Sinister Six. However, at that instant, a colossal surge of negative energy blasted forward, hurling Johnny and Peter off their feet. Emerging from the shadows, Martin Li strode purposefully forward. He swiftly moved to extricate his fellow Sinister Six members.
"What took you so long?!" Otto asks.
"You wanna argue or run?" Li asks.
"This isn't over, Spider-Man!" Otto cried as he and everyone escaped down the sewer using a hole from construction.
Peter and Johnny groaned as they got back up and saw that they were escaping. "Oh, god." He groaned as he got back up, smacking Johnny to wake him back up. "Wake up, fire boy. We've gotta catch those guys."
"Seriously?" Johnny asked as he groaned. "Can't we let them go for the day?"
Peter walked over to the hole in the ground and saw that it went deep. "Yikes, they went deep. Rhino probably blew a few of these pipes." He then sighed and shot a web to latch it to the top of the street so he knew how to get back. "Okay, fine, go back to the Baxter Building, and deal with Ben."
Johnny then froze when he realized that Ben definitely didn't have the time to calm down. He then looked over towards the Baxter Building and then over towards Peter as he dropped downward into the hole. He wondered if he'd rather deal with Ben or the Sinister Six.
"Pete, hey, come on, you know better than dealing with six crazy psychopaths on your own!" Johnny cried in fake sympathy as he leaped down and used his powers to slow his descent. "You need someone watching out for you!"
"What would I do without you?" Peter asked sarcastically as he fell down the hole. His voice echoed through the hole.
Peter landed on the bottom of the hole first, seeing it was the furthest the Sinister Six could have gone. Evidenced by the cater that was likely left by Rhino when he slammed into the ground. Johnny flew down beside him as the two of them were curious about where the Sinister Six were. Since they were so deep underground, there was no way that they managed to escape. But this was strange to see as it was like they were standing on an old sewer system.
Johnny lit his fist up like a torch so they could look around. "What is this place?"
"I don't know," Peter admitted as he leaped upward to see the construction. "This looks like nobody's been down here in s while." He then tapped his ear device, seeing if they got a signal. "Hey, HERBIE, are you back online?"
There was no response from HERBIE, but there was some static coming from what he believed was Susan. "Peter, I can - - - hear you. We're tr - - - - track - - - hard."
"Sue, you're breaking up," Peter said as he turned away from Johnny. "Could you repeat that?"
Johnny walked down some of the pipes when he saw one that was big and green. He took a few steps in and Peter then began to notice the dimming light.
"Johnny, I still need that light," Peter said, only to be responded with empty space. "Johnny?" He then looked around and noticed there was no sign of Johnny. "Okay, Johnny, this isn't funny." He stated as he looked around, hearing a strange sound coming from the green pipe. "Johnny?" He then worked his way into the pipe where he saw some fresh scorch marks. "Johnny!?"
Then all of a sudden, Peter felt a strong wind almost like a vacuum that started to drag him in. He tried to stick to the surfaces. But whatever this tube was made out of, it stopped him from sticking. Peter then felt himself being yanked down the pipe and screamed as he tried to shoot a web and escape, but his web was yanked down the pipe as well.
He then watched as the incoming darkness was filled and saw now he was in the Warp Zone, being carried along a series of clear passageways moving through brightly colored clouds. He calmed down a little seeing the colorful clouds and lights in every direction.
"Whoa..." Peter muttered.
"AAAAHHHH!" Johnny was screaming as Peter saw he was trying to escape using his fire. "Flame on!" But every time he torched up, the winds would stop him. "Come on! Flame on!"
"Johnny!" Peter went into a dive position as he tried to get closer to his friend. He then shot a web and yanked himself over to Johnny. "I got ya, man!"
"What the hell is going on?!" Johnny asks Peter.
"I don't know," Peter said as he looked around. "But we'll get through this."
"Yeah, okay..." Johnny said with a sigh. But then they felt another gust of wind and Johnny was being dragged down another direction from the tunnel Peter was going down. "Pete!"
"Johnny!" Peter tried to save him, but they were already heading in two different directions.
Peter saw that whoever Johnny was heading it was filled with fire and ash, almost like he was heading towards a volcano. He however was heading towards what looked to be a more colorful land.
Peter shrieked as he was flung from the pipe and is ejected, he then shrieked and landed on a giant mushroom. He slammed face first where he then slid off and tumbled to the grass-covered ground. He groaned as he rubbed his face and yanked off his mask to breathe.
"Oh, god." Peter groaned as he stood up. "That had to hurt." He then stood up and cracked his back. "That was worse than Reed's old teleportation machine."
Suddenly, Peter realized he was no longer in New York as he gazed around in wonder. He found himself in a forest where mushrooms towered like the trees of Central Park. Mesmerized by the Mushroom Forest, Peter's attention was drawn to a blue mushroom. As he approached, a peculiar man with features resembling a mushroom sprang up, startling Peter into a scream as he staggered back. It seemed he had encountered one of the forest's mushroom inhabitants.
Toad belongs to a humanoid mushroom species characterized by fair skin, dark eyes, plump cheeks, and a perpetually smiling mouth. His small arms and short legs support a mushroom cap that's white with five red spots. Adorned in a blue vest edged with yellow trim—though the trim wasn't always visible—Toad pairs it with white pants and brown shoes. Completing his ensemble, he carries a backpack and wields a stick.
"DON'T TOUCH THAT MUSHROOM, YOU'LL DIE!" Toad screamed in terror, only to then calm down. "Oh, no wait, sorry, that one's perfectly safe." He then hugged the mushroom. "Sorry."
"And...now there's a talking mushroom man," Peter said in confusion. "I wish I could say that's the strangest thing I've ever seen."
"Pleased to meet ya. I'm Toad." Toad introduced himself to Peter, giving his hand a shake before he walked off.
"Uhh... Peter." Peter said when he saw a creature waddle out of the bushes as he got up and followed Toad. "So this is, uh... I just wanna clarify something... This is, this is not a dream, right?"
Toad whacks Peter's arm with his walking stick, causing him to exclaim in pain. He rubbed his arm and wondered why his spider senses didn't pick up on that, but then again, it was just a stick.
"That hurt, right?" Toad asked as he continued to walk.
"Yeah," Peter stated as he followed Toad.
"Definitely not a dream," Toad stated.
"Then, it's... This place is..." Peter tried to wrap his head around it.
"The Mushroom Kingdom!" Toad said with pride.
"I was going to say some sort of pocket dimension that is adjacent to my universe, but The Mushroom Kingdom works." Peter shrugged as he kept walking when suddenly, he heard something. He turns around and spots a Bramball stooping over his head. "Uh...Hello."
The Bramball continues walking.
"Yeah, I'm actually looking for somebody, uh, my friend, in fact. He is a bit of a hothead. He's a bit scrawnier than me, and a little taller, like maybe an inch. He wears an all-blue suit with a '4' emblem on it. Scruffy blonde hair." He did his best to describe Johnny as he looked around the environment. "See, I saw him falling through a pipe. It was foggy and- and I believe there was lava..."
Toad gasped when he heard that and froze in fear. "Uh, that... is not good. Umm..." He then stuttered as he turned to face Peter. "Your friend has landed in the Dark Lands. They're under... Bowser's control."
Peter obviously didn't know who that was. "Bowser? Who's that?"
"He's the most evil, wretched creature alive." Toad explained as he ran ahead, making Peter have to hurry to catch up. Toad sticks his walking stick into a mushroom and pulls himself and Peter up. "I'm taking you to see the princess. She can help you. She can do anything."
Peter followed the little guy and walked on top of the mushroom, wondering who this Princess was. "Princess?" He then looked out to the distance and gasped when he saw the entirety of the Mushroom Kingdom and a magnificent white and red castle on a hill surrounded by a large town. "Whoa..."
"Come on, Peter! Our big adventure begins now!" Toad said as he ran off, leaping off the mushrooms like a bounce house.
Peter sighed and knew he was going to have to follow along until he knew more about this Bowser if he was gonna rescue his friend. "Hang on, Johnny."
Peter and Toad start to jump across mushrooms, making their way to the castle.
We now look to a dark forest, where Johnny pulls himself up off the ground. He groaned and looked around and saw that he was in some sort of dark forest. He lit his fist and looked around, looking for some way of getting out. He walked around and was wondering where he ended up.
"Peter? Peter? Where are you?" Johnny called out, hearing something in the distance. "Huh?" Then he stumbles near a lava stream but runs across it, he bumps into a tree and then gets attacked by bats. Johnny shrieks as he shakes them off. "Good thing nobody saw that."
Then Johnny hears something which causes him to look over and see something in the distance. He sees something that looks like the skeleton of a turtle. Johnny shrieked again, causing his fist to go out. Lighting his fist back up in a panic, he looked and saw that the skeleton was now gone.
Johnny looked around in terror when he heard something charging causing him to see Herman Schultz with his gauntlets. "Well, well, look who I found?"
"Shocker?" Johnny was shocked to see him. "You're here?"
"Yeah, and where is here exactly?" Herman asks. "I wound up here when that idiot Rhino walked down a pipe. We all got separated."
"How should I..." Johnny froze when he saw something terrifying. "Shocker? Turn around."
"What? You think I'm stupid?" Herman asks.
"No... but you are. And you should." Johnny said in terror.
Herman decided to just do it and turned around. When he did, he ended up coming face to face with a turtle skeleton with fire eyes. Herman shrieked in terror and punched the bones with a full blast, sending the bones scattering.
"Ha!" Herman cheered as he picked up the head of the turtle. "That's what you get when you mess with Shocker!" Then the turtle came back to life, causing Herman to shriek and run towards Johnny. The turtle began to slowly reform itself, bringing its bones back and returning to one creature. "Kill it! Kill it!"
Johnny used his fire and blasted the turtle but to little avail. The turtle was taking the flames like it was nothing and was doing nothing to harm it.
"Well, every man for himself," Johnny said as he ran to take to the skies. "Flame on!" When he flew high enough, he was approached by a giant ghost. He shrieked and turned, only for another ghost to appear. "Oh, come on!"
Herman tried to shoot the turtle skeleton again when a hand came from the ground belonging to another Dry Bones. Then an entire swarm of them came out of the ground and began to make their way towards them. Johnny flew back towards the ground as the two of them ran off to try and escape them.
"Where are we going?!" Herman asks Johnny.
"Away from here!" Johnny screamed in terror.
The more they ran, the more Dry Bones emerged from the ground and gave chase to the two of them. Johnny then noticed there was a castle in the distance and a destroyed bridge leading to it. Johnny used his flight to fly over the rubble while Herman was left jumping and praying he didn't fall into the labs surrounding the castle. The Dry Bones continued to chase after him when he reached the doors as Johnny opened them up.
The two then got inside where the entire swarm of Dry Bones tried to get inside. Johnny was holding the doors back when Herman charged his gauntlets and fired. The blast sent the Dry Bones back and allowed Jonny the chance to close the doors. The two of them heard the doors were being pushed on and were wondering if they were going to hold. Then to their relief, the doors stopped and the Dry Bones seemed to have given up.
"Whew," Johnny said with a sigh as he lay on some rubble.
Herman sighed as he leaned on the rubble. "That... that was close."
"Yeah.." Johnny said with relief.
Just when they thought they were safe, a thunderclap illuminates a group of Shy Guys behind them. With a Snifit among them in the shadows, the Thunder then returned to darkness and were filled with the screams of Johnny and Herman in the dark.
