The next file is worded "INCIDENT 0106151995" and depicts a sleeping cap and Zs.

Ruby: "Next we have incident 0106151995. I believe that is the incident where a woman died in her sleep."

The file's picture shows a woman with blonde hair lying back in a bed. She is grimacing, as if having a nightmare.

Shannon: "Unlike most of the deaths we have here we can't really pin down a cause of death, which in my eyes makes this one even scarier."

Zoom in.

We open to see what appears to be a bedroom in a house. The queen-size bed is covered in blue sheets, and nearby is a painting of a tree and the entrance to the bathroom.

Date of Incident: 15 June, 1995

Location of Incident: Alexi's Apartment, Fargo, North Dakota

The woman from the file, dressed in a pastel-striped nightgown, walks in, closing the door behind her.

Ruby: (Narrating) "Alexi had, like, the kind of looks anyone, boy or girl, would kill for."

Alexi begins disrobing herself. As the nightgown comes off her black, lacey underdress, bra and panties are revealed. We then see her climb into her bed, turn the bedside lamp off, and close her eyes.

Ruby: (Narrating) "But she traded it all in for something most take for granted - a good night's sleep."

Soon enough Alexi begins tossing and turning.

Ruby: (Narrating) "Every night, she would have, like, the same nightmare."

We cut to a view of the world from Alexi's eyes, where we see a dwarf with red skin and a Freddy Krueger-like face attempting to strangle her.

Ruby: (Narrating) "A creature would appear and, like, try to suffocate her."

Alexi continues turning in her sleep.

Ruby: (Narrating) "What Alexi is going through is called SUNDS - Sudden Unexpected Nocturnal Death Syndrome. It typically involves the victim having, like, a nightmare so intense it causes cardiac arrest leading to death. Since 1977, over one hundred people, mostly Southeast Asians, have died from this mysterious disorder."

The dwarf is still strangling Alexi, leaning over her face and barking at her. She continues twitching and rolling in her sleep.

Ruby: (Narrating) "If you were, like, a fly on Alexi's wall you'd see nothing but the bizarre sight of this beautiful chick…"

Alexi: "NO!"

Ruby: (Narrating) "...being violently choked and thrashed to within an inch of her life. But it was nothing but the baddest of bad dreams."

A series of CGI shots show the beginning of the end. First electrical impulses in Alexi's brain as her closed eyes shake in their sockets, then her heart beginning to beat erratically.

Ruby: (Narrating) "Unable to wake up, poor Alexi was being frightened to the point her heart was beating erratically, a condition known as cardiac arrhythmia."

More shots of the dwarf growling at Alexi's face and clamping his hands on her throat.

Ruby: (Narrating) "The fiendish little person sat on her chest, wrapped his tiny little hand around her throat, and squeezed with all his might."

Eventually Alexi's spasms stop and she slumps down into the bed.

Ruby: (Narrating) "She died in her sleep. Cause: heart attack."

Zoom out to a shot off the side of the bed, showing Alexi lying lifeless.

Ruby: (Narrating) "They say if you die in your dream, you, like, die for real. I wish I could ask Alexi if this was true, but she never woke up from her… frightmare."

We see one final close-up shot of Alexi's face.

Ruby: (Narrating) "Maybe I should ask the dwarf."

The dwarf appears one last time, growling menacingly at the screen.

WAY TO DIE #818

FRIGHTMARE

Return to the Sharuby couple in their office.

Ruby: "I'm pretty sure deaths like these caused by SUNDS were the inspiration for Nightmare on Elm Street."

Shannon: "I'm pretty sure you're bang on - franchise creator Wes Craven said SUNDS was his inspiration for the franchise. Next file please - my turn to narrate."

Ruby nods, closing the file and marking it before wheeling over to get the next one.
