The counter was cleaned at the forks Sporting store, the cash register lady that had been at the front desk before Avrail came in had cleaned it. She had used a new cleaner on it and it looked disinfected. Avrail waited for the customer that had been in the last row of the store to come up to the counter. He walked around the corner and set his merchandise on the counter. Avrail started to scan the items, and he asked if she had heard of the bear attack that had happened in the woods. Avrail replied that she hadn't heard of it and asked how the person was doing. The customer replied that the gentleman was in the hospital, and his wounds weren't too bad. Avrail told him that she hoped the gentleman had a full recovery, the man said his goodbyes and left the store. Mike came to the front of the store and said that it was almost time to close the store. Avrail said alright and went over to pick up Terran.
On the way home Mike was driving through the back road, and saw a car parked on the side of the road. He went to go around the car and a gentleman stepped out in front of their car. He had a passenger in his car. The man waved his hand for Mike to get out of the car. The man looked like a vampire, Mike reached behind the seat and grabbed the crowbar that was in the back seat. Avrail asked Mike if it was safe for him to go out there. Mike said that he was going around the car, but if he couldn't, then he needed to get out. Mike tried again to drive past, the man stepped to the side again in front of the car. Mike parked and opened the door. Mike walked over with the crowbar, and Avrail could hear him ask if he needed help. The man said no, then tried to grab Mike. Mike stepped out of the way, then swung the crow bar. The man jumped back and stumbled a bit. He came towards Mike again and the wolves appeared out of the woods. Mike came back to the car and drove past the fight between the wolves and the two vampires. Avrail looked back and told Mike that the wolves seemed to have won the fight. Mike smiled at her and kept driving.
Later that night, while in bed, Avrail turned to Mike and put her hand on his chest. She had been worried about him and was glad that he was safe in bed with her. Mike kissed her and she moved her hand towards his t-shirt. She followed his chest with her hands to reach the top of his shoulders. Her warmth mixed with his, while she felt the presence of his chest.
The next morning Avrail was down stairs feeding Terran, when her phone rang. It was Eda, she asked if that was her on the back road that was attacked. Avrail replied that it was them last night. Eda asked if everyone was alright and Avrail replied yes they were. She then told Eda that she had seen her cousin Daisy at the store. Eda told her that she liked knowing that situation had a good ending.
After hanging the phone up, Avrail heard a knock on the door. When she opened it, Eric and Angela were on the other side. Angela said that she heard they were on a back road the night before, and were almost attacked. Avrail asked how she knew. Angela said that her friend had been behind them, she saw a large dog attack the man, and she drove through the road after Avrail had left. Mike came in the room after hearing the story. He looked at Avrail and see knew he wanted to tell them. Avrail said to Angela that it was a vampire that attacked them. Angela said what, and Avrail said that vampires had been in town a few times and that She had seen a girl bitten In the woods by the grocery store while she was pregnant with Terran. Angela said that she believed her, she also had seen something strange. Angela had seen a woman taken in the woods while driving home from the Forks high school. She said that man looked like he was a vampire. Mike asked Eric if he was there, and Eric said he wasn't with Angela that day.
After Angela and Eric left, Avrail went outside with Terran to the patio. Mike came out after she did. The sun was shining and was in a spot that wasn't blocked by the trees.
