Sonya blinks her eyes open slowly, confused. She hasn't felt this disoriented in a long time, turning her head from left to right as she tries to make sense of things around her. "What the..." she mumbles, blinking hard. She sits up in a rush as soon as she realizes she's not in her bed any longer, a strange world stretched out before her. The grass, the sky, everything looks and feels weird. Even breathing feels strange but she considers later upon recollecting that it was probably just panic.
"Hello, Sonya," a voice greets her and she's on her feet within seconds, staring at the strange red creature before her, just barely tall enough to reach her knees.
"Who the hell are you?" she demands, wishing she had something to defend herself here, even if just some pepper spray. Though... she's not sure if that would work on whatever the thing before her is.
"I'm your partner," the creature says simply. "My name is Shoutmon."
Something about that eats at her, leaves her gaping at him. "Why... does that sound familiar?"
Shoutmon smiles at her. "We met once, when you were a child. But it wasn't time for you to fight alongside me, so you were returned to your life and I spent the time waiting for you, growing stronger and smarter. I am a proper partner for you, I hope I will be everything you need and expect."
She shakes her head. "I don't remember you," she says helplessly.
"It's nothing to be concerned about," he says, reaching forward and pressing his fingers to hers. Almost as soon as they touch, flashes of memories wash over her and she grasps, grabbing at his claw as her knees threaten to give out on her. When the memories ease and she can see the world around her once more, she blinks tears away. "How did I forget you?"
He smiles. "It s alright." He squeezes her hand back. "I look forward to seeing you soon."
Before she can protest, or beg for more time, she awakens in her own bed, grasping at something that's not actually there.
