Not much important happens in these, so I did short POVs for a little look at everyone.
Leo Fabrizio- District Six male (18)
Our arrival to camp was something like the detonation of a bomb. People were running every which way, there was a lot of screaming, and everyone was trying to find someone. I let everyone else go ahead and followed after the pathway cleared up. Then I caught sight of my dad waving at me from beside our fire pit and I felt my cheeks burn with my smile.
"How was the flight?" I asked. Even as I said it I heard how banal it sounded. I hadn't known what to say and pretty much flubbed the moment.
"Never thought I'd get to do something like that," Dad said. He'd always loved trains and hovercrafts and things like that. Plenty of people in Six used them, but with his job and our income, it wasn't in our means. Pastors didn't get paid much even back when it was legal. "How's it been?"
"It's been a blast," I said, sitting down next to him in our log seat. "I'm going to have so many stories."
"Nice to see you're still here," Dad said. It might have sounded mean, but I knew what he meant. People like us had extra standards we had to live by. A selfish and duplicitous game like this wasn't in our skull set.
"Everyone's really nice here, actually," I said. "I think we're all so happy it's not a real Games and that we all get some prize money means we're not so cutthroat "
"What a blessing," Dad said. For the rest of the day we went on like that, talking about our faith without talking about it. The book does say to pray secretly.
Yarrow's interview, unedited: It was really nice having my mom here. I've missed her so much. I don't know how I can handle another few weeks without everyone.
Shep Howard- District Ten male (18)
Most Tributes had their mothers or fathers, but it was my little brother Roy who greeted me.
"Hey, Goat," he said. It had been ten years since I thought sheep were girls and goats were boys, but nicknames are harder to kill than bedbugs.
"What, didn't want to do your chores?" I shot back.
"Everyone else had to work on the harvest. They said the dishes could wait," Roy said. We didn't know why he was born with a twisted leg, but it wasn't great for farm work. He was a great cook, though.
"How's the farm?" I asked.
He shrugged. "Still chugging along. A hailstorm took out our early beans, but the second crop should make it. Roxy misses you. I think she might be pregnant again."
Well this just keeps getting better and better. I was going to go home to a big pile of money and a new litter of puppies.
Val Vella- District Two male (18)
I may have misunderstood what they meant by "loved ones". I didn't have any family, so I put down my good friend Tanya. I wasn't sure she was the kind of loved one they had in mind. She was a loved one, you know? The kind I had a lot of. So of course we said we had super boring family stuff to talk about and snuck out the the woods. I said she was a loved one and I was a man of my word.
Kallik's interview, unedited: I've been pretty stoic so far but they got me today. I haven't seen my mom in over a year, and that was for a medical emergency. I still can't make myself believe it's real.
Lana Mason- District Six female (17)
"Excuse me?" Aunt Sadie flagged down the nearest crew member. "We haven't received any of the compensation funds yet. Have they been delayed?"
"I'm just a camera operator. I don't know," the woman said.
"Oh, you must be Lana's aunt!" Isabella, who had been mingling with all of us, appeared from nowhere. "I should be able to answer your questions."
"Oh, wonderful. When will Lana's compensation start to arrive? We want to get things ready for when she returns."
Shep's brother was standing nearby. "We've been getting-" he started, then stopped when Shep shook his head behind Aunt Sadie's back.
"Don't worry, everything's all taken care of," Isabella said. "Since some of the contestants are minors, we've set up trusts for them with financial advisors. Of course the money belongs to the contestants, but the advisors are there to prevent forced or manipulated withdrawals. We wouldn't want someone to try to cheat our contestants!" she continued with a beaming smile.
Dorian's interview: Cora always wanted to volunteer. I thought maybe she wouldn't want to come since she never got to, but nope, she came. We had a great time. She had a lot of strategy ideas. If I was smarter I'd use them.
Dorian's edited interview: This is a great time for talking strategy. If the others were smarter they'd use it.
Octavia Jacobs- District One female (18)
Drusus' skin was rosy and smooth. I'd turned him all over and didn't see any bruises. Either Cassius hadn't wanted to risk getting caught on camera or, more likely, he'd dumped Drusus with a nanny as soon as Ieft. While he'd done it for the wrong reasons, it was the best thing he could have done for Drusus.
"He's been so vocal lately," Cassius said as I held Drusus on my knee and put his little hand to mine. "Just 'da-da, da-da' all day long."
"That's good to hear," I said blandly. After the first knife in my heart, I brushed him off. If he cared about our sin at all he would know that Drusus has been a late bloomer in almost every area- within normal, but a bit on the late side. There was no way he was talking, especially after having just been separated from his mother. Cassius just wanted to hurt me, but I was having a good time with my son and he wasn't going to ruin it.
Alara's interview, unedited: I'm the only one whose boyfriend came, which is a little embarrassing. Everyone's asking if they're invited to the wedding. Of course they are, but that's not for a long time, if it even happens. Also I think Val might have been fibbing about his cousin being, well, his cousin. Kissing cousins, maybe.
Cactus Cleo- District Seven male (18)
I was surprised I wasn't more excited to see Leo. I'd thought I would think about him all the time, but when I thought about it, I hardly had since I'd gotten to the island. I'd adapted a lot better than I thought I would.
"Not much to look at," Leo said, looking at my tribemates.
"They're pretty cool," I found myself defending them.
"You'll win this no problem," Leo said.
"Of course," I said, and I did think it was true. Except that I always thought I was about to get voted off.
"Keep your eyes on the prize," Leo said. When he said it, I was looking at my tribemates. Maybe it would be nice to have them, even if I didn't win. It was something to think about.
Make sure to get your vote in! Next up is tribal council

No one wins every time. Even Disney has some failures, like they did in 2012
