"Sean!"

The boy stopped abruptly and turned around to face Emma, who was now chasing him. When he hadn't gotten an answer from his friends, he stormed out of the restaurant.

He waited for her to catch up before he spoke, "what the fuck was he talking about, Em?" He searched her eyes desperately, hoping to avoid heartbreak. "Hm?" He pressed, growing angrier as the seconds passed.

"Sean," she sighed, defeated, "please don't be mad."

He placed his hands on his hips and nodded knowingly, "anytime someone says that, it's going to be bad. Just spit it out!"

Emma ran a hand through her hair and took a deep breath in, "can we not talk about this at home?"

"No," he spat without hesitation, "depending on how this story goes, I'm not even sure where home for me is yet."

Tears burned at her eyes now. She did plan on telling him, but not like this. Not yet.

"You, of all people, understand how traumatic the whole Rick thing was," she swallowed hard before continuing; feeling her palms grow sweaty, "we were all a little messed up..."

"Get to the point, Em!" Sean was only growing angrier and angrier the longer she held off.

"Jay and I... We..."

"You had sex?" Sean roared, taking large strides toward her now. She stepped back, "no!"

"I mean, it wasn't really sex... He didn't touch me..."

Sean's face was full of disgust now, unwilling to hear another word she had to say, "I can't fucking believe this."

"Yeah, I remember that whole Rick thing... You know, when I saved your life!" He turned around and continued back to his car. Her footsteps lingered behind him, causing him to yell back at her as she followed, "were you even going to tell me?"

"Of course I was, Sean," she pleaded now, "it was a crazy time. We were all fucked up. I'm sure you did things you regret, too."

He turned to face her and waited until she was only inches away from him, "sure, but I didn't have sex with Manny."

They continued to the car without another word; Emma crying silently as she followed.

Emma stood at the passenger door and waited for a moment.

"I'm still taking you home." He said monotone, before getting into the vehicle himself. "I'm pissed off, but I'd still never leave you out on your own."

She joined him in the car, "where are you staying tonight?"

He reversed out of the spot as he spoke, "I'm really not sure right now." He began down the road now, "maybe a trip back to Wasaga wouldn't hurt."

"Please, Sean," she could no longer hide the desperation in her voice, "I'm so sorry. It was the biggest mistake I ever made. Please, don't leave. I love you."

Those words always made his heart flutter. Sure, he was mad, but nothing could make him stop loving her. Nothing.

He pulled up to her place and turned to look into her tear-filled, big brown eyes, "I love you, too, Em."

He grabbed her hand and ran a thumb on top, "but I'm not sure I can forgive you right now. I need some time."

"Sean, I swear I-"

"You..." He could hardly get the words out; they were putrid, "you fooled around with my best friend, Em. It's not that easy to just look past. There's nothing you can say right now. I just need time."

Emma felt mixed emotions. She wanted to kiss and makeup, but she also knew that wasn't an option now. She was also extremely impressed with Sean's maturity since coming back from Wasaga; that much-needed therapy he was getting really seemed to help.

"I understand," she sighed, getting out of the car. Before walking away, she leaned back into the car, "just know, it's my biggest regret; hurting you."

"Have a good night, Em."

His level-headed, calm demeanour was almost unsettling to her. The Sean she knew years ago would've punched a hole in something by now.

"Bye, Sean."

He rolled up the passenger window and watched as the blonde made it to her front door. No matter how mad he was, he'd always make sure she made it home safe at the end of the day.

But now, he found himself truly alone. This was the first time since coming back to Toronto, that he had absolutely no one to turn to. His best friend and his girlfriend... How could he forgive either of them? The two people he was supposed to be able to trust the most; the two people he came back to the big city for. This was going to be a long night.

Back at Emma's house, she laid there in total darkness. For the first time since Sean came to stay with her, her TV wasn't playing some crappy car restoration show. She almost missed it; she missed him. His body against hers, the way he would run his fingers against the back of her neck until she fell asleep. Tears burned at her eyes at the thought of losing all that over some man whore from her past.

She stared at the ceiling silently; a pit growing in her stomach. She suddenly had a bad feeling flood over her. In a panic, she reached for her phone that sat on her bedside table.

Hey Al, is Sean at your place?

She could hardly wait the few seconds for his sister's response. This feeling was eating her alive. Thankfully, her phone vibrated then.

No. Why?

Emma began chewing at the skin on her thumb, scared her suspicions were right. She called Alice immediately.

"Em, what's wrong?" She answered almost instantly.

"I haven't heard from Sean since he dropped me off," she paused to look at her watch, "an hour ago or so."

"But why isn't he with you?"

Emma sat in silence on the other line for a moment, "he found out... About everything."

This time, Alice was quiet.

"What do you mean he 'found out'? You didn't tell him?"

"I mean," she sighed, "I was going to... until Manny's boyfriend spilled the beans about the ravine and—"

"Oop, hang on," Alice interrupted her, "call on the other line. Gimme a sec."

"Hello?" She answered the mystery caller.

"Alice," an all-too-familiar, and almost trauma-inducing, voice spoke on the other end, "can you tell me what Sean doing back here, and why aren't you with him?"
