I groan rolling away from Mathilda "Let me sleep" I whine.

"kleine Maus we need to move".

I frown looking at her "Why?"

"We need to pick an area with more room, fewer people around when the egg hatches, we will have to worry about people knowing Lily was never pregnant same with Emily, that will

raise questions when it first shifts we don't want them being hurt by humans, and when we have babies we need an area they can shift in safely".

I sigh nodding "And we can set the area up to be perfect for all our group your friends agreed to join us".

I groan "We can't afford to move into a new area or anything babe".

"NEIN, we can't but my parents insist on paying for our area to get us started".

"Fine but no going crazy with crap" I mumble.

A month and a half later

I sigh reading a book with a few more by me as I sit under the tree, when Nix comes curling up by me "What are you studying so hard?"

"Something my Aunt asked me when she was here and something about their trip".

"Maybe I can help?"

"My Aunts met in Hungary there was a woman rumored to drain virgins and bathe in their blood, the villagers ended up locking her in a tower to starve, I was asked if I thought she was a vampire".

"She is a creature but not a vampire and did not drain blood, she's a banshee and very much alive still, now what's the other thing?"

"The woman running a winery was rumored to be a vampire".

"It's possible she could also be another type of creature or even human".

I nod "I met Scarlett" I mumble closing my book.

Nix smiles looking at me "She is the youngest child I had".

"She gave me a scale and told me to use it to call her if we needed help" I say frowning.

"Each creature has at least one secret talent they rarely if ever tell anyone outside their mate, hers is a connection to her scales if she removes them it works like those strange boxes you all communicate on".

I nod frowning "How do you know if you have a talent like that?"

Nix's hums relaxing on her coiled body "Nowadays it happens by accident but in the past, it was often found in times of great need".

I scoff looking at her "Times of great need?"

"Yes one of my talent came up when one of my descents was in danger I could hear her cries and feel her pain, the closer I got the less pain I felt, I found her in the woods in labor, her life was fading and her lower body was covered in blood I changed her it caused the baby to change as well".

"So you found it because your family needed help? Is that how others find theirs a descent needing help?" I ask.

"Yes on me but in a war I witnessed many find their talent like a Harpy, when she was injured she screamed, the human was lifted and thrown it causing the banshees to scream signaling his death, I even witnessed the first Banshee to ever scream, some gifts become a trait in all she was the first Banshee ever".

"How does someone become a creature that never existed?" I ask confused.

"Hurt, pain, and trauma in life can cause a slow change that could take generations to happen if a family is continuously tormented without stop, but the most common is something happens in their life so horrible it changes them".

Nix sighs "She was a widow with three beautiful daughters she met a man who she agreed to be with, one day she came home from gathering food and believed he was out hunting still, she came back to her cave and found he had done something so horrible and unthinkable, he had killed her daughters and violated their mutilated corpses, her scream was so loud she caught the attention of others nearby myself included, he came running from the cave naked

and covered in blood with her after him, she tackled him screaming in his face while strangling him, her scream went from human to what's now known as a Banshee, the people witnessed her change, this was back when humans had an understanding of creatures and were less fearful. I had to stop her from attacking others in her rage the people handled her daughters' remains I ended up taking her with me after that to help her".

I swallow feeling sick "How were you created?" I whisper.

She sighs "You know the rumors about me correct?"

I nod looking at her "Well what no one knows is I was never the first wife, I lived out with the other creatures and banished humans I met Eve when they were thrown out of their settlement she ended up leaving him because of his lies, we were together for years. She died in childbirth our daughter was the first hybrid of human and Lamia she is the child that traces to you".

I frown looking at her "You didn't change her?"

"Back then I couldn't she was pure human, no creature DNA in her, it would have killed her" Nix whispers.

"Why do I never hear about male Lamias, and you gave birth to children but just hinted you got a human pregnant".

Nix laughs nodding "Lamias are all female and are also one of very few who can reproduce both ways".
