So guess who's back? Sorry it's been a few months since I last updated, I kind of lost motivation for my stories and then life swept me up.
Irina Akashira chapter 31 . Apr 25
Ty for the update
About the comment, based on what you have said
I've seen other fanfics where James is this way, and considering his background, it wouldn't be so much incredible that his canon self would have been this way in slighly different circumstances
On the other hand, I don't think such malfoy-like way of thinking James would have married a muggleborn for free will, it doesn't mind how much powerful and beautiful she was, and "dirty" potter pure blood
Even if dumbleDORK would has convinced him someway to be the best
In this case, and if I understand your comment and his dislike for Ember is a mix of sexism and her interest for muggle things, I can't see practical punish her of this way. I would imagine father trying to indoctrinate her, that muggle things are bad or similar
About the chapter
Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought uggle studies weren't a compulsory subject, so I can't see any benefit to go this class, and if her mother is the teacher, most would can say she isn't impartial. my mum was teacher in my high school, and she wasn't sure never teach in same year I was to avoid conflicts
On the other hand, if this was a problem in this world, Severus wouldn't be allowed teach in Slytherin. Draco is his godson right?
About possibility of other schools
If this would has been a problem, she should have rejected Hogwarts' letter from the beginning and apply for other school
I can see a mix of not be hidden all her life, wish to fully reclaim her rights as head of both Ravenclaw and Slytherin, a little hope to see if it is posible fix the things with her family, and fear if she was to simply reject, they use some distorted/biased legal ways to force her to go there
At least now, with thief attempt trough a child marriage, and the broadlight agression, everyone are seeing them, so if dumbledork or someone else is so bold to attack her now, she would have an excuse to "look for a new school" and no one would can protest without seem an accomplice
Me: Yeah, James is pretty out of character for my story. I'm aware but I also know that people change as they grow and become hypocrites.
Also I meant that since Lily was the Muggle studies professor than she would be at the castle where Ember could see her and get to her if needed.
DragonicTexan36 chapter 30 . Apr 10
I have to say I am pleasantly surprised and invested in this story. I like the fact that you redeemed Lily and are in the process of redeeming Damian. I will say that I havent seen Stephen Universe and to be fair my perception of it was influenced by a YouTube video but luckily one only needs basic information on the Gems to enjoy this story. Keep up the good work I will be looking forward to more chapters.
Me: I'm glad you like my story so much, I've had an idea from the start about redeeming Lily and Damien, Lily because she was trapped and Damien because he was just a child who was doing as told and thought it was okay. I'm trying to keep the story where you don't need to have watched Steven Universe to understand what's happening or all the plot points.
Now this chapter was a bit rushed because I had no idea where to continue after the last chapter. This chapter is just to try and get back into the groove of writing.
It had only been a few weeks since Ember and the other students returned from Christmas break, and she was already getting fed up with the school.
It wasn't the other students that were the problem, it was the Professors. For some strange reason, most of them were singling her out, trying to get her to act out so they would have an excuse to put her in detention. They seemed desperate to get her into detention, Ember didn't know why they wanted her to get into trouble but she had a suspicion that the headmaster had a hand in it.
He always looked at her with frustration in his eyes during dinner, she assumed it was because she hadn't gotten detention yet but that wasn't to last
The only professors who didn't try to get her in trouble were Professor Flitwick, Professor Quirrel, and her mom.
It was three weeks into the new school year when it seemed like the Professors were sick of trying to get her to act out since Professor Snape decided to give her a detention for no reason.
Ember was suspicious when she was told to meet the caretaker, Mr Filch, at the front of the castle at midnight. The reason she was suspicious should be obvious, whenever Snape gave out detentions he had them do one of two things, clean cauldrons in his classroom or have them clean the trophy hall. Neither of those sounded like what she was going to be doing for detention.
When Ember arrived at the front of the castle later that night she could say honestly that she was surprised to see Damien, Granger, Longbottom, and Malfoy were there waiting for detention as well.
"What did you four do to get detention?" She asked Damien as the five students started to follow Filch down to Hagrid's hut, she could spot Hagrid standing outside holding a lantern from where she was.
"Hermione and I were helping Hagrid out with a problem but we got caught out after hours because of helping him," Damien explained, sounding bitter at getting detention for helping someone.
Ember reasoned that he was feeling even more bitter when he realized that the one he and Hermione had helped was going to be supervising the punishment, meaning Hagrid was going to be punishing Damien and Hermione for helping him.
"That sucks, what about Longbottom and Malfoy?" She made sure to keep her voice down so Filch didn't hear her and her brother talking.
"Malfoy found out about Hagrid's problem and tried to snitch on us to McGonagall, she took twenty points away from him and gave him detention for lying to her and being out after curfew," Damien spoke just as soft, not wanting to get in trouble again.
"Neville heard about what Malfoy was planning and tried to come find us and warn us, sadly we had been caught by McGonagall and she thought we were trying to play a prank on Malfoy, she took fifty points from each of us,"
Ember looked at him shocked, "Wait, she took twenty from Malfoy but fifty each from you three? That's so unfair, people normally lose ten or fifteen for being out after curfew, you didn't deserve that many taken away! Neville didn't even do anything wrong besides being out after curfew, if she truly thought he overheard a prank then why would she punish him as if he was involved in the prank?"
Damien just shrugged since he didn't understand McGonagall's logic any more than Ember did. Soon enough the group finally got close to Hagrid's hut, Ember was happy about that. Filch had been mumbling about some disturbing things, things she was going to mention to Jasper and have her try to take care of this guy. She would also mention this detention and see if Jasper could have anything done about the school sending students to detention at midnight.
She heard Hagrid call out and tell Filtch to hurry up, causing the group to speed up slightly.
She saw relief fill Hermione and Neville's faces, Filch must have seen the relief too since he sneered, "I suppose you think you'll be enjoying yourself with that oaf? Well, think again, kiddies, it's into the forest you're going and I'm not expecting you to all come out in one piece."
Ember's eyes widened just a tad while Neville let out a scared whimper and Malfoy stopped dead in his tracks. What kind of adult said that to children, no actually, what kind of adult assigned this kind of detention in the first place?
"The forest?" Malfoy repeated, sounding terrified, "We can't go in there, it's off-limits for a reason!" He looked on the verge of running back to the castle and Ember wouldn't blame him if he did try to make a break for it, she was feeling a bit uneasy herself and she had actual self-defense training
Filch only chuckled darkly when seeing the fear on the five children's faces, "Should have thought of that before you broke the rules then, huh boy?"
Hagrid finally started walking towards them, his dog right on his heels.
"About time," he said. "I have been waiting for half an hour already. All
right, Damien, Hermione?"
"I wouldn't be too friendly with them, Hagrid," Filch said coldly, looking at Hagrid with distaste clear on his face, "They're here to be punished, after all."
"That's why you're late, isn't it?" said Hagrid, frowning at Filch. "You've been lecturing them? It's not your place to do that, your job was to bring them here so you've done your bit now get,"
Filch narrowed his eyes at Hargid before speaking, "I'll be back at dawn for what little is left of them," He eyed the five students with a dark gleam in his eyes before he turned and started back towards the castle, the lamp he was holding bobbing away in the darkness.
Malfoy turned to Hagrid and spoke up, "I refuse to step foot in that forest." He crossed his arms.
Hagrid turned to give him a stern look, "You will if you want to stay at Hogwarts you hear me, you broke to rules and now you're going to pay the punishment for it."
Damien gave Hagrid a small glare, no one but Ember noticed it and she reached over to give his shoulder a small squeeze to try and calm him down, thankfully it worked and her twin gave her a nod after a moment to show he was good.
Ember could understand why he was so mad, Hagrid might have been talking to Malfoy but it was clear that he was speaking to the others around him as well. It was like he didn't care that two of the children got in trouble for helping him, one got in trouble for trying to help the other two and She didn't even do anything to deserve this detention.
Honestly, the only one there that she felt deserved to have detention was Malfoy and even then she believed sending him into the forbidden forest was overkill.
She must have zoned out as she was thinking but the sound of Malfoy's voice brought her back to reality, "But this is servant stuff, it's not something that we should be doing! When I tell my father about this he'll-"
Ember frowned when Hagrid cut the boy off, "He'll tell you that that's how it's done at Hogwarts, now you either do the detention or be expelled, which is it?"
Malfoy glared at Hagrid harder than he had before before lowering his gaze. She didn't think that Malfoy would truly be expelled if he refused to do this detention, nor did she believe that his father would be so willing to encourage his son to do this detention just to stay at an old drafty castle.
Ember listened in horror as the giant of a man explained that the group of five children would be going into the forbidden forest with him to search for whatever was killing the unicorns. She couldn't believe that the school was allowing this, she was even more horrified when the giant split the students up. It took serious dark magic to kill a unicorn from what she had read.
She made a mental note to try and move the unicorns to someplace safe after this.
Hagrid took Hermione and Neville with him while sending Damien, Malfoy, and Ember down another path with nothing but his cowardly dog with them. Ember could tell that this was going to be a disaster even if she didn't know that her brother and Malfoy had a habit of fighting whenever they were within feet of one another.
She was a bit annoyed that she had to keep breaking up fights between the two, eventually she hissed at them both that they were going to bring the thing killing unicorns right to them if the two boys kept making so much noise, that seemed to be the thing that finally got through their thick heads and the two settled for just glaring at each other.
As long as the two weren't yelling she didn't care if they glared at one another. She was sure that the only reason Malfoy listened to her at first was because she outranked him, he was Heir Malfoy while she was Lady Ravenclaw.
Honestly, even if he was Lord Malfoy she would still outrank him since the Malfoy family came here from France a few hundred years ago, this meant that the family wasn't nearly as old as the Ravenclaw family was.
Not long later she heard Damien gasp, making her turn to see what made him surprised, she felt her blood freeze at what she saw. She quickly put herself in front of Damien and Malfoy, both of who were frozen still at the sight in front of them.
In front of them, lying on the grass was a unicorn on the verge of bleeding out. Ember felt a great sadness fill her as she took in the sight, it was both beautiful and heartbreaking. The poor thing was lying on the ground, two of its legs were bent at awkward angles showing that they were broken. Its pearly white mane was spread across the forest floor, contrasting against the dark green of the leaves and grass under it.
"Damien, Malfoy run now!" She snapped and heard Malfoy run off without another word while Damien hesitated.
"Ember I can't leave you alone here," He protested, trying to drag her away.
Ember didn't move though, she knew that whatever harmed this beautiful creature had to be near, she also knew that if they all ran then one of the boys could get hurt, she was the strongest, least likely to get hurt out of the three so she would stay behind to stall the creature.
"Damien, you need to go now, go get Hagrid, I have to try and save the unicorn!" She didn't turn around but it was clear to her brother that she was serious.
Damien hesitated, "I'm not explaining this to Mom if you get yourself killed," He finally said before turning and running off.
Ember relaxed slightly when Damien was far enough away that she couldn't hear him running anymore, she took a hesitant step towards the unicorn before she froze as she heard a slithering noise coming from the bushes, she quickly hid behind a tree before the creature could see her.
She held back a gulp as she watched as out of the shadows came a hooded figure, it crawled across the floor towards the unicorn like some sort of stalking beast.
Ember narrowed her eyes, she refused to let this monster kill the unicorn. Taking a deep breath she quickly brought out her sword from her chest, she was thankful no one was around but her and this creature. She picked up a rock and threw it at the creature, it whirled around as soon as the rock hit it and spotted her standing there.
She knew that she didn't paint an intimidating figure standing there, the most impressive part of her was the sword in her hands and the dark glare she was aiming at the thing in front her her.
Before she could do anything a centaur jumped out from behind the bushes and started chasing the creature away, she didn't know where he had come from but she knew that this was her chance to save the unicorn and didn't waste any time before she rushed to the poor thing.
She knelt, ignoring the silver blood getting on her skirt, she placed her hands on the unicorn and used a decent amount of power to bubble the unicorn and send it back home, she hadn't ever bubbled anything nearly as big as the unicorn before, she had been practicing with tea cups. This showed her that she needed to work harder to master her bubbling powers.
She heard something walk up behind her, "Interesting," She quickly spun around, pointing her sword at the centaur before she relaxed slightly realizing that he wasn't the creature.
She gulped, "You can't tell anyone about this," She spoke, feeling a bit scared that her secret would get out.
Thankfully the centaur looked at her, "Child of the gems, I will not reveal your true self, you are destined for great things."
Ember relaxed, "I'm Ember Ravenclaw," She said as she stood up, wincing when she realized she scrapped her knees when she kneeled down the way she did.
"I am Firenze, are you alright" He said, as if he just now realized that she might be hurt.
Ember nodded, "I'm fine, just a bit scrapped up, I'm going to try and find the others I was with."
Firenze frowned and glanced up at the sky before looking down at Ember, "It is late, I will lead you out to your group."
Ember relaxed and followed Firenze through the woods, She smiled slightly when she saw her brother and saw the relief that she was alive on his face.
Surprisingly, Malfoy also looked relieved to see her alive. Strange, but perhaps he wasn't that bad. He might even feel a bit guilty for running away the way he had, he hadn't stayed around to hear Ember tell him and Damien to run.
Hagrid took the five students back to the castle, the entire time she was reassuring her brother, and Malfoy to her surprise, that she was okay and wasn't hurt.
She told the truth that the centaur that brought her back had chased the creature off before it could even get close to her. She didn't tell them about bubbling the unicorn, she didn't trust Malfoy and she didn't know her brother much at all to know if she could trust him or not.
~~~In Dumbledore's Office~~~
Albus watched the small light from Hagrid's lantern bobble in the dark, it looked like he was bringing the students back in. He would have to ask the man what happened in the morning.
Sitting behind his desk he sighed, he was thankful that he managed to get Ember into detention with the others, it would make his plans so much easier.
He was going to have to see how Damien reacted to coming face-to-face with Voldemort, he had been getting worried about how little reaction to boy had to being around Quirrel.
Albus was aware that Voldemort was possessing the Defense Professor, it worked for his plans to allow the man in. It would be a wonderful test for Damien to see how he reacts to stressful situations.
His mind turned from Damien to his twin, Ember, and sighed. Why could that girl not just do as he said without question? He cursed the fact that James had been so hard on the girl, if he hadn't been as bad then perhaps it would have been easier to convince her to go back to her family and perhaps give him her votes until she was older.
He put pressure on his Professors to find a way to get the girl in detention, he was frustrated that it had been so hard but was relieved it happened in time. He would have to thank Severus for putting her in detention without a good reason, he would have to warn him against doing so again in the future, however. He had been hearing rumors that there was going to be an investigation into the Professors of his school and how they taught.
He would delay for as long as he could but he had a feeling that he couldn't avoid it entirely like he had in the past.
He once more cursed Lady Peverell, everything started going wrong when she came into the picture.
