Waking up in a new land
It was just after sunrise the next day when Lincoln started to stir after being teleported to the Galar Region. The morning sun shone in through the windows, hitting Lincoln's eyes, making him start to open them. Once they were half-opened, he sat up and stretched his arms and yawned.
"Man, that was a good sleep I had. Well, I guess it's time to get up." said Lincoln. As he fully opened his eyes, he looked around and realized that he wasn't on his bed, but on a small couch he's never seen before. He looked around some more and realized he wasn't even in his room. He was in a small room with the couch he woke up on, a small coffee table, several plants, and most of the walls were glass. Seeing this, he did the only thing he could thing of...he yelled in fright. "AHHH! Where am I?! How did I get here?!" he says as he looks around in panic. "Okay, Lincoln; get a hold of yourself. Try and remember what happened. Let me see; my family and I were in Lily and Lisa's room where Lisa was demonstrating her new teleportation pad, Charles and Cliff ran underneath my feet, I fell backwards onto Lisa's teleportation pad, there was a flash of light, and next thing I know, I'm waking up in a room I've never seen before." Lincoln's eyes widen in realization as he figured out what happened. "Lisa's teleportation pad must've transported me somewhere." Lincoln gets up off the couch he was sleeping on and walks over to the windowed wall and looks outside to see a lake. Curiosity made Lincoln exit the room he was in and enter what appeared to be a living room, also with a lot of plants in it. As he looks around, he hears some noise coming from the next room. He quietly walks into what looks like a kitchen. Inside he sees an elderly woman at the stove, cooking something. Not knowing what else to do, he decided to ask her about where he is. "Umm. Hello?" Lincoln says, making the woman turn in surprise.
"Oh. You startled me young man." said the woman.
"I'm sorry." said Lincoln.
"That's okay, dearie." said the woman.
"I'm wondering if you can tell me where I am." said Lincoln.
"We're in my home. My granddaughter Sonia and I brought you here after we found you passed out nearby." explained the woman.
"Thank you. What town am I in right now?" asked Lincoln.
"We're just outside of Wedgehurst." said the woman.
"Wedgehurst? I never heard of a town with that name." said Lincoln.
"You must not be from around here. Wedgehurst is a small town here in the Galar Region." said the woman.
"Galar Region? Where's that?" asked Lincoln, surprising the woman.
"You really aren't from around here, are you, young man." said the woman.
"No. I never even heard of any place called the Galar Region. I'm from a city called Royal Woods. It's somewhere in Michigan." said Lincoln.
"I've never heard of those places, myself. You really must be a long way from home, young man." said the woman.
"Oh, I didn't introduce myself, did I. My name is Lincoln Loud." said Lincoln.
"It's nice to meet you. My name is Professor Magnolia." said Professor Magnolia.
"You're a professor. What kind of stuff do you study?" asked Lincoln.
"Oh, I mainly study Pokemon." said Professor Magnolia.
"Pokemon? What are Pokemon?" said Lincoln, surprising Professor Magnolia.
"You don't know what Pokemon are?" asked Professor Magnolia.
"No. I never even heard of Pokemon." replied Lincoln.
"Well that's surprising. I thought Pokemon existed throughout the entire world." said Professor Magnolia.
"Well we don't have them where I'm from. What exactly are Pokemon?" asked Lincoln. Just then, a blue turtlelike creature with an orange horn on its head walks into the kitchen, surprising Lincoln. "What kind of turtle is that? I never seen one like that before; and my little sister Lana brings home a lot of different kinds."
"That my dear boy is one of the different kinds of Pokemon that can be found here. That Pokemon is called a Chewtle." said Professor Magnolia. The Chewtle sees Lincoln and walks over to him and sniffs his leg.
"Is it friendly?" asked Lincoln.
"Yes he is, Lincoln." said Professor Magnolia. Not knowing what else to do, Lincoln kneels down and strokes the Chewtle's head. Chewtle smiles in response.
"This is so cool." said Lincoln.
"I can see you're already becoming interested in Pokemon. Allow me to explain what they are. Pokemon are mysterious creatures that exist throughout this and several other regions around our world. As a Pokemon Professor, it's my job to unlock the mysteries about them and their potential." explains Professor Magnolia.
"How many kinds of Pokemon are there?" asked Lincoln.
"There are hundreds of different kinds of Pokemon. Each one unique in their own special way." said Professor Magnolia.
"Do people keep them as companions like you do?" asked Lincoln.
"Some people do. Some people use Pokemon to help with chores and tasks that their talents could really help with; and some people train them to participate in Pokemon battles." said Professor Magnolia.
"Pokemon battles?" asked Lincoln.
"Pokemon battles are contests between two trainers in which they have their Pokemon battle one another to test their Pokemon's power and skill." said Professor Magnolia. "Perhaps you can tell me how you ended up passed out so far from your home." Lincoln explains how he was transported to the Galar Region by Lisa's teleportation pad, much to Professor Magnolia's surprise. "It appears your sister is quite the genius." says Professor Magnolia.
"She is." said Lincoln.
"Now what am I going to do with you? Without knowing exactly where your home is, I'm afraid you're stuck here." said Professor Magnolia, much to Lincoln's disdain.
"But where will I stay? How will I eat? I don't even have any money on me." said Lincoln.
"I don't know, Lincoln. But for now, you can stay here until we can figure something out." said Professor Magnolia. Suddenly, some smoke starts pouring out of the frying pan on the stove, much to their surprise. "Oh, dear. I forgot about breakfast." said Professor Magnolia. Lincoln rushes over to the stove and turns it off. The food in the frying pan was burnt beyond recognition.
"I'm sorry. This wouldn't have happened if I didn't distract you." said Lincoln.
"That's okay, Lincoln. I should've been paying attention to the stove. Looks like I'll have to start over." said Professor Magnolia.
"Allow me to help. It's the least I can do to repay you for helping me and taking me in." said Lincoln. Ten minutes later, they finished preparing a breakfast consisting of fried eggs, bacon, toast, and orange juice. After they've eaten, Lincoln washed the dishes and the two of them step outside. Lincoln looks around at the yard and sees a small garden. On the other side of the stone wall surrounding the house was what appeared to be some sort of small arena. "Professor? What's that?" asked Lincoln, pointing to the arena.
"That's just a basic Pokemon battle arena. Some people battle in them, but battles can be done almost anywhere." explained Professor Magnolia.
"Oh. So what now?" asked Lincoln.
"Well we should go into Wedgehurst and visit the Pokemon Research Lab where my granddaughter is currently working." said Professor Magnolia. The two began walking down a dirt road towards Wedgehurst. As they do, Lincoln notices several different kinds of Pokemon. There were a furry, black and white striped Pokemon (Galarian Zigzagoon) some small blue birdlike Pokemon (Rookidee) and some small red foxlike Pokemon (Nickit). With each different kind of Pokemon Lincoln saw, his interest grew and grew.
"These Pokemon are so cool." said Lincoln with delight.
"And these are just a few of the many kinds of Pokemon in our world. You might learn about other different kinds at the research lab." said Professor Magnolia. The two soon reached their destination: Wedgehurst. Lincoln looked around and took in the sights. Not much to see; there was a train station, a few houses, a building with a red roof, a store that looked like it sold berries, a clothing store; which made Lincoln think about what he was going to do about clothing considering all he had was what he was wearing, and the Pokemon Research Lab which was on the other side of town.
"Professor? What's that building?" asked Lincoln, pointing to the building with the red roof.
"That's a Pokemon Center. It's a medical facility which specializes in treating injured or exhausted Pokemon. There's also a store in there that sells supplies for Pokemon trainers." explained Professor Magnolia. The two continued to walk until they reached the Pokemon Research Lab. They enter and Lincoln couldn't help but be awed by all the books that were on shelves in the walls.
"That's a lot of books." said Lincoln.
"Well there is a lot of Pokemon in the world. All that information and knowledge would require a lot of books to store it all in." said Professor Magnolia.
"Hi, Grandma Magnolia." said a voice from above them. Lincoln looks in front of them and sees a red-headed woman walking up to them, holding a book.
"Hello, Sonia." said Professor Magnolia. Sonia looks over at Lincoln.
"Oh, hello. You're that boy we found yesterday." said Sonia.
"Yes, dear. This is Lincoln Loud." said Professor Magnolia.
"Hello, Lincoln. My name is Sonia." said Sonia.
"Hi. It's nice to meet you." said Lincoln.
"So where are you from, and how did you end up passed out near our house?" asked Sonia. Professor Magnolia told Sonia everything she found out from Lincoln.
"So for now, he'll be staying with us until we can figure out how to get him back to where he came from." said Professor Magnolia.
"Don't worry. I plan on helping out with any chores you would like help with. It's the least I can do." said Lincoln.
"Well maybe you can help me around the lab. Like maybe cleaning up lab equipment, organizing books, stuff like that so I can focus on research." said Sonia.
"That sounds simple enough. Maybe I can learn about Pokemon while I help out. They sound like something I would be very interested in." said Lincoln.
"Maybe you could be a Pokemon trainer." said Sonia.
"I'll think about it. It could be kind of cool." said Lincoln. Just then, a small brown and white doglike Pokemon with a ring of yellow fur around its neck scampers into the room. "Is that a Pokemon?" Lincoln asked.
"Yes, Lincoln. This is called a Yamper." said Professor Magnolia. The Yamper walks over to Lincoln and looks up at him with a curious look on its face. Lincoln kneels down and scratches its neck, making Yamper smile.
"I see Yamper likes you." said Sonia.
"Well, dear. I'll leave you to help Sonia. I'll see you two back home when you're done." said Professor Magnolia. She then exits the lab and starts heading back to her house. Lincoln looks at Sonia.
"So what would you like me to do first?" asked Lincoln. Sonia reaches into a nearby closet and pulls out a broom.
"Maybe you can sweep the floor. Yamper tends to shed every now and then and I'm usually too busy to clean up after him." said Sonia.
"Sure." said Lincoln. He grabs the broom and begins sweeping. He may not know it yet, but he will soon be starting a whole new adventure.
