Clyde's Final Trial
Early the next morning on a battle arena behind the Master Dojo, Klara was standing at the center of it with a look of concern on her face.
'What am I going to do?' Klara asked herself. 'I really need to win my battle against that Clyde boy today if I'm ever to achieve my goal of becoming a gym leader.' She looks down on the arena and a smirk forms on her face as she takes out a pokeball from her belt. 'I think a little 'leveling the playing field' will help me greatly.'
With the Loud siblings and Clyde, they were just finishing breakfast.
"So, Clyde." Lincoln says as he and the others washed dishes. "Are you anxious for your big battle against Klara?"
"A little." said Clyde. "But that doesn't mean I'm not going to give it my all. If I lose, it won't be the end of the world."
"That's the spirit, Clyde." said Lincoln as he scrubbed a plate.
"We'll be cheering you all the way, little dude." said Luna as she rinsed one.
"I hope you beat that, Klara!" said Leni with a frown as she dried one.
"When does your match start?" asked Lana as she licked plates clean before handing them to Lincoln.
"Two o' clock I think." said Clyde.
"Maybe a little extra training before lunch would help you a bit." suggested Lincoln. "They can rest up and eat to regain their strength before your match."
"That's a rockin' idea, little bro." said Luna.
"Totes. Anything to give you an edge against Klara!" said Leni.
"Good idea." said Clyde. They helped Clyde train all his Pokemon. His Kirlia learned Charm, all his other Pokemon got a bit stronger as well. Several hours later, everyone was relaxing while having some lunch.
"It's almost time, Clyde." said Lincoln.
"Do you think I can win?" asked Clyde.
"You've been training your Pokemon really hard, buddy. I think you have an excellent chance of winning." said Lincoln.
"You can do it, Clyde." said Lana.
"Yeah!" said everyone else. Clyde smiles and nods.
"If you all believe in me, then I should have faith in myself, too." said Clyde. Once everyone had lunch and cleaned the dishes, they played and relaxed with their Pokemon for a while longer before they headed over to the Master Dojo. They enter and were surprised when they see that Master Dojo, Ms. Honey, Klara, and all the other dojo students were already there.
"We're glad you could make it, Clyde." said Master Mustard.
"Thanks. Am I late?" asked Clyde with worry. Master Mustard chuckles.
"No, Clyde. You're just in time." said Master Mustard who turns to regard everyone. "Okay, everyone. Let's head to the arena to start the match."
"Yes, Master Mustard." said the students as they headed through a set of doors at the back of the dojo with Klara running ahead of everyone. Clyde turns to look at everyone.
"Well. This is it, everyone." said Clyde.
"You'll do great, buddy." said Lincoln. His sisters give Clyde their support.
"Thanks." said Clyde with a smile. The Loud siblings and Clyde went through the doors and down a path which lead to a valley with a large arena in it with everyone standing to one side of it.
"Whoa!" said Lana.
"I'll say." said Lincoln. They see that Klara was standing at the center of the arena, who then runs over to Clyde upon seeing him.
"Hello, Clyde." said Klara. "I'm glad you made it."
"I am, too." said Clyde.
"I hope you're ready to lose." said Klara. "I really want to win that secret armor." Leni growls at Klara who glares at Leni. The sound of Master Mustard laughing draw their attention to him.
"This should be an interesting match." said Master Mustard. "Are you two ready?" Clyde and Klara look at each other and nod. When they look back at Master Mustard, they see he wasn't where he was anymore.
"Hey. Where did he go?" asked Clyde. A whistle draws his and everyone else's attention to the arena to see that Master Mustard was standing at the center, smiling and waving at them.
"Well don't keep us waiting." said Master Mustard. Everyone looks at him with stunned looks on their faces.
"How did he get to the center of the arena from here so quickly?!" asked Lola.
"I didn't even hear him move!" said Luna.
"That's amazing!" said Lincoln. Ms. Honey chuckles at everyone's astonishment.
"Age is just a number, children." said Ms. Honey. "My husband is fitter than most people that are even a third of his age." Everyone was surprised. After getting over their surprise, Clyde and Klara ran out to the center of the arena. Master Mustard looks at the two of them.
"This will be a four-on-four Pokemon battle between Clyde and Klara. Both trainers will battle until all four of a trainer's Pokemon become unable to battle. The trainer to have any Pokemon remaining after the match will be the winner." said Master Mustard.
"Yes, Master." said Clyde and Klara.
"Take your positions." said Master Mustard. Clyde and Klara run to opposite sides of the field.
"You can do it, Clyde!" said Lincoln.
"Give your all, dude!" said Luna. Clyde looks at everyone and smiles. Klara had a smile on her face, but for a different reason.
'Your Pokemon should watch their step during this match, Clyde. It seems some Toxic Spikes have gotten on the field somehow.' Klara thought to herself. She and Clyde each pull out a pokeball. She throws her pokeball, releasing a purple, scorpion-like Pokemon whose stinger looks more like a claw. Clyde pulls out his Rotom Phone and points it at the Pokemon.
"Skorupi, the Scorpion Pokemon. It attacks using the claws on its tail. Once locked in its grip, its prey is unable to move as this Pokémon's poison seeps in." said the Rotom Phone.
"Okay, it's part bug type." said Clyde. He throws his pokeball and releases his Flapple. All of a sudden, she suddenly started to look ill.
"Hey! What's wrong with Flapple?" asked Lincoln.
"It looks like she's poisoned!" said Luna.
"How? I didn't see Klara do anything!" said Lana. Klara smirks to herself. Seeing Klara smirk, Lincoln looks down on the field and sees something reflecting the sunlight. He bends down and pulls what looks like a purple spike out of the ground.
"What's this?" asked Lincoln. A student looks at the spike and recognized it.
"That's a Toxic Spike!" said the student.
"What's that?" asked Lana.
"It's a Pokemon move that litters the ground with poisonous spikes that poison any Pokemon that comes out when they're present on the battlefield." explained the student.
"How did they get on the field?" asked Lola. Lincoln looks at Klara with a frown.
"Klara! She planted them on the field before the match!" said Lincoln. His sisters shout their disapproval at Klara's underhanded tactic.
"Cheater!" said Lana.
"It's bad enough she has bad fashion sense; but cheating?! That's low, even for her!" said Leni.
"Stop the match, dude!" said Luna.
"No!" said Clyde, surprising everyone.
"What? Why, Clyde?" asked Lincoln.
"This is just another obstacle to overcome. I'll bet there's other trainers who uses tactics like those, but during a match instead of before it. This is just something I can learn from." said Clyde. Master Mustard nods in approval of Clyde's speech. Lincoln and his sisters look at each other, then back at Clyde.
"I guess if that's what you want; then you go ahead and do what you feel like." said Lincoln. Clyde had a smirk on his face, which Klara noticed.
"Why are you smirking?" asked Klara. Clyde looks at his Flapple and nods at her. who then opens her mouth, revealing a Pecha Berry. Klara was surprised by this.
"A Pecha Berry?!" responded Klara.
"I knew you specialize in poison type Pokemon, so I had Flapple hold onto one, just in case." said Clyde. Flapple eats the Pecha Berry and was cured of her poisoning. Klara growls in response.
"Clever." said Klara.
"Let's show Klara how we deal with cheaters." said Clyde. "Flapple, use Dragon Breath!" Flapple opens her mouth and releases a stream of green energy which hits Skorupi. All of a sudden, Skorupi started to twitch as electricity surged through its body.
"Looks like Dragon Breath has paralyzed Skorupi." said Lincoln.
"Serves Klara right!" said Leni. Klara growls in response.
"Hey! My Pokemon wasn't suppose to have a status conditon, yours was!" said Klara. "Well I won't let that stop me! Skorupi, use Poison Fang!" Skorupi fights through paralysis, leaps at Flapple, and bites down on her with poison-coated fangs, doing super effective damage to her due to her being part grass type.
"Flapple, use Wing Attack!" said Clyde. Flapple swings her wing at Skorupi, hitting it and sending it flying to the ground unconscious.
"Skorupi is unable to battle. Flapple is the winner." said Master Mustard.
"Way to go, Flapple!" said Clyde.
"Thanks, Clyde." said Flapple. Klara growls as she returns her Skorupi to its pokeball.
"You may have beaten my Skorupi; but let's see you beat my next Pokemon!" said Klara as she puts her Skorupi's pokeball away, takes out another one, and throws it, releasing a gray Pokemon that looks like two lumpy orbs with eyes and mouths with the bigger one having a skull and crossbones mark on it, both having tall, hat-shaped growths that have smoke coming out of them on top of their heads, one orb had a green mustache, and the other one had a green beard. Clyde points his Rotom Phone at the new Pokemon.
"Weezing, the Poison Gas Pokemon. Long ago, during a time when droves of factories fouled the air with pollution, Weezing changed into this form for some reason." said the Rotom Phone.
"Flapple, use Wing Attack!" said Clyde. Flapple flies at the Weezing and strikes it with his wing.
"Weezing, use Sludge!" said Klara. Weezing opens one of its mouths and releases a stream of black ooze out of it which hits Flapple, sending her flying to the ground, unconscious.
"Flapple is unable to battle. Weezing is the winner." said Master Mustard.
"Hooray! I did it!" said Klara. Clyde returns Flapple to her pokeball.
"You did great, Flapple. Take a good rest." said Clyde. Luna turns to Lincoln.
"Dude. Is there a way for a Pokemon to avoid being poisoned?" asked Luna.
"I recall that the only kinds of Pokemon that can't be poisoned are poison types and steel types." said Lincoln. Clyde, hearing what Lincoln just said, puts Flapple's pokeball away and pulls out another one. He throws it, releasing his Ivysaur. The Toxic Spikes suddenly fly off the ground and gets absorbed into Ivysaur.
"What happened to my Toxic Spikes?!" asked Klara.
"One thing you obvious didn't know about Toxic Spikes, Klara, is that when your opponent sends out a Pokemon that's a poison type or part poison type, the Toxic Spikes will get absorbed into it." explained Master Mustard.
"No." said Klara with displeasure.
"Awesome! The Toxic Spikes are gone!" cheered Lincoln.
"Take that cheat down, Clyde!" said Leni.
"Okay, Ivysaur, use Growth!" said Clyde. Ivysaur becomes surrounded by a green aura, increasing his attack strength.
"Weezing, use Assurance!" said Klara. Weezing flies at Ivysaur and rams him, knocking him back.
"Ivysaur, use Take Down!" said Clyde. Ivysaur charges at Weezing and rams it hard, doing a lot of damage due to Growth increasing Ivysaur's attack strength. Ivysaur winces in pain from the recoil damage of Take Down. "You okay, Ivysaur?" Ivysaur nods.
"Assurance!" said Klara. Weezing flies towards Ivysaur.
"Dodge it!" said Clyde. Ivysaur leaps out of the way of Weezing's attack. "Now use Sleep Powder!" Ivysaur unleashes a blue powder from the flower on his back onto Weezing. It got drowsy and falls asleep.
"Weezing? Wake up!" said Klara.
"Tackle!" said Clyde. Ivysaur runs at Weezing and rams it into the air.
"Wake up!" yelled Klara.
"Tackle one more time!" said Clyde. Ivysaur runs towards the sleeping Weezing as it was falling towards the ground and rams it. It falls to the ground near Klara with swirly eyes.
"Weezing is unable to battle. Ivysaur wins." said Master Mustard.
"Great work, Ivysaur." said Clyde.
"Yeah!" cheered Ivysaur. Klara returns Weezing to its pokeball and pulls out another one.
"I'm sure you remember this Pokemon, Clyde." said Klara, "Whirlipede, go!" She throws Whirlipede's pokeball and releases it.
"Ivysaur, Tackle!" said Clyde. Ivysaur runs at Whirlipede and rams it, knocking it back.
"Use Screech!" said Klara. Whirlipede lets out a shriek, releasing soundwaves onto Ivysaur, weakening his defense.
"Take Down!" said Clyde. Ivysaur charges at Whirlipede and rams it. Ivysaur winces in pain from Take Down's recoil damage.
"Use Bug Bite!" said Klara. Whirlipede rolls towards Ivysaur and jumps into the air. As it got close to him, Whirlipede's feelers glowed white and it jabs Ivysaur with them. Ivysaur collapses to the ground with swirly eyes.
"No, Ivysaur!" said Clyde.
"Ivysaur is unable to battle. Whirlipede is the winner." said Master Mustard.
"You did it! You did it!" cheered Klara. Leni growls in response. Clyde returns Ivysaur to his pokeball.
"You were great, buddy." said Clyde. He puts Ivysaur's pokeball away and pulls out another one. He throws it, releasing his Torracat.
"Good choice. Whirlipede is part bug type; so fire type Pokemon like Torracat should have an advantage." said Lincoln.
"Torracat, use Fire Fang!" said Clyde. Torracat's fangs become coated in fire as he runs at Whirlipede. He bites down on it when he got close enough, doing super effective damage. Parts of Whirlipede's body suddenly caught fire.
"Yes! Whirlipede's burned!" said Lincoln. Klara gasped at that fact.
"Hurry, Whirlipede; use Poison Tail!" said Klara. Whirlipede rolls at Torracat, spinning around as it does. Part of its body uncurls, showing a glowing purple tail which hits Torracat, not doing much damage thanks to its burn weakening its attack strength, and sends him skidding across the field. Torracat starts to look ill.
"Uh oh! Torracat's poisoned!" said Clyde. "Torracat, use Fire Fang one more time!" Torracat uses Fire Fang on Whirlipede once more, this time doing enough damage to knock it out.
"Whirlipede is unable to battle. Torracat is the winner." said Master Mustard.
"Awesome!" said Lincoln. Klara growls as she returns Whirlipede to its pokeball and pulls out her last one.
"This is my last Pokemon." said Klara as she looks at it with worry. She then looks at Clyde with a look of fierce determination. "But I won't let that stop me from trying my best!" She then throws her pokeball, releasing a Pokemon that looks like a bipedal Slowpoke with a purple accents on its face, right hand, and tail, along with having some sort of gray spiky shell on its left hand. Clyde pulls out his Rotom Phone and points it at the new Pokemon.
"Slowbro, the Hermit Crab Pokemon, and the evolved form of Slowpoke. If this Pokémon squeezes the tongue of the Shellder biting it, the Shellder will launch a toxic liquid from the tip of its shell." said the Rotom Phone. Klara smirks as she pulls up one of her sleeves, revealing a Dynamax Band on her wrist, surprising Clyde and the Loud siblings.
"You have a Dynamax Band, too?" asked Clyde. Klara smiles as she returns her Slowbro to its pokeball, then uses her Dynamax Band to enlarge it.
"How did she do that?!" asked Lincoln. "We're not in a Pokemon Den!"
"If an area has a large amount of Dynamax energy in it, you can use Dynamax your Pokemon." explained Master Mustard. Klara throws her giant pokeball, releasing a Dynamaxed Slowbro.
"Hurry, Slowbro! Use Max Geyser!" said Klara. Slowbro aims its shell at Torracat and releases a large blast of water out of it, hitting Torracat, doing lots of super effective damage to it, and knocking him out. It suddenly began to rain due to Max Geyser's secondary effect.
"Torracat is unable to battle. Slowbro is the winner." said Master Mustard.
"Yay! Just one more to go!" said Klara. Clyde returns Torracat to his pokeball.
"You did your best, Torracat." said Clyde with a smile. He puts Torracat's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "It's up to you now, Quagsire." He throws Quagsire's pokeball and releases him. He then returns Quagsire to his pokeball and uses his Dynamax Band to enlarge it. He throws it and releases Quagsire, but Dynamaxed.
"This battle will decide the winner." said Lincoln. Everyone nods in agreement.
"Shouldn't have had Slowbro use Max Geyser and making it rain, Klara." said Clyde. "Now Quagsire's water attacks are stronger now."
"I won't let that stop me!" said Klara. Master Mustard nods at Klara's determination.
"Quagsire, Max Geyser!" said Clyde. Quagsire opens his mouth and unleashes a blast of water from it and it hits Slowbro, dealing a lot of damage due to the rain powering Max Geyser up.
"Slowbro, Max Mindstorm!" said Klara! Slowbro unleashes large rings of pink energy and they hit Quagsire.
"Quagsire, Max Quake!" said Clyde. Quagsire burrows into the ground and towards Slowbro, hitting it and dealing super effective damage. Quagsire then returns to the surface.
"Slowbro, Max Ooze!" said Klara. A purple puddle of slime appears below Slowbro. Purple slime erupted from underneath Quagsire, hitting him, but not doing much damage to it. Slowbro begins bulking up due to Max Ooze powering up its special attack strength.
"Quagsire, Max Geyser!" said Clyde. Quagsire unleashes another blast of water and it hits Slowbro. Slowbro shrinks to its original size and passes out.
"No! Slowbro!" yelled Klara.
"Slowbro is unable to battle. Quagsire wins. The winner of this battle is Clyde McBride." said Master Mustard. Quagsire returns to his regular size.
"Way to go, Quagsire!" said Clyde.
"All right!" cheered Quagsire. Klara drops to her knees and returns Slowbro to its pokeball. She stands back up and she and Clyde walk towards each other and stood a few feet from each other.
"Aw man, I totally lost." said Klara. "Well, this stinks. I do everything, even cheat a little, and I still lose. I don't expect a young, talented kid like you to really get it, but I really was trying, you know? As hard as I could" She looks down. "Maybe I should just give up my dream of being a gym leader."
"No. You should never give up on your dream." said Clyde, surprising Klara. "You just need to work harder and believe in yourself. Do that and you will be a gym leader someday."
"I'll probably be expelled from the dojo anyway for cheating." said Klara. Master Mustard walks over to them. "Master?"
"Clyde, I would like to apologize on Klara's behalf." said Master Mustard. "What she did was wrong, but she just didn't want to be beaten by her rival, that's all. She's a good, hardworking student." Tears formed in Klara's eyes.
"Master, thank you." said Klara. She turns to Clyde. "I'm sorry, Clyde."
"Klara, your punishment is that you must look after the Pokemon in the dojo for six months by yourself." said Master Mustard.
"What?! I mean, yeah, that's a lot of work, but is that all?" asked Klara.
"Of course. Let's work on strengthening your heart." said Master Mustard.
"O-Okay." said Klara, nodding. Master Mustard walks over to Lincoln, his sisters, Ms. Honey, and all the other dojo students.
"All right, everyone. Things are settled here." said Master Mustard. He turns towards Clyde and Klara. "I'm proud of you both. You mustered so much effort and tried so hard. I got so teared up that I couldn't see half the battle, but what I saw was amazing. So moving, I'm tearing up." He turned towards Clyde. "Clyde, you gave it your best and triumphed, even when faced with an unfair challenge. To you, who has completed the trials, I grant you the secret armor of the Master Dojo." Everyone else applauded for Clyde. "It'll take some time to prepare, so I'll go ahead and get things sorted. That's all, everyone, as you were." Everyone walked off to go on with their business.
"Clyde." said Klara, stopping Clyde and he turns to look at her. "You're very strong."
"Thanks." said Clyde. Klara then runs back to the dojo. Clyde has completed all three trials, earning him the secret armor. But what is the armor?
