"Well, guys, here we are; Stow-on-Side." said Lincoln after he and the rest of the group entered the town. As they looked around the town, Clyde looks up at the sky and saw it was starting to get dark.
"Maybe we should challenge the gym tomorrow, Lincoln; it's getting a little late." said Clyde.
"I guess it wouldn't hurt to wait until tomorrow." said Lincoln as he looks up at the sky. He then looks at several markets that were in Stow-on-Side. "What do you think those markets are selling?"
"I don't know; let's check them out." said Ronnie Anne.
"Okay; we'll meet up outside the Pokemon Center in one hour." said Lincoln. He and the rest of the group split up. At one of the markets, a merchant was standing behind a flat table with a bored expression on his face.
"Excuse me." said Lucy from the side of the table, startling the man.
"Yes, young lady?" asked the merchant with his hand over his chest.
"What may you be selling in your market?" asked Lucy. The merchant picks up a purple cloth from the table he was standing behind.
"This is a Reaper Cloth." said the man.
"I can sense spiritual energy coming from it." said Lucy, making the merchant nervous.
"If you trade a Dusclops while it's holding this, it will evolve into Dusknoir." said the merchant. Lucy pulls out pokedollars from her pocket.
"How much?" asked Lucy.
"Three thousand pokedollars." replied the man.
"I'll take it." said Lucy. She gives the merchant pokedollars, and he gives Lucy the Reaper Cloth. "Thank you, sir." After she walks away from the store, she pulls out a pokeball and tosses it, releasing her Dusclops. "Hold this, Dusclops." She gives Dusclops the Reaper Cloth.
"What's that you're giving your Dusclops, little dudette?" asked Sam as she was walking to Lucy.
"A Reaper Cloth; if I do a mock trade with Dusclops while he's holding it, he'll evolve into a Dusknoir." replied Lucy.
"Hey; I can do a mock trade with my Onix while she's holding the Metal Coat that Lincoln gave me for your Dusclops." replied Sam. "But first, I have to get my Onix from storage."
"I will appreciate that." said Lucy. Sam uses her Rotom Phone to exchange her Vulpix for her Onix; after that, she gives Onix the Metal Coat. After Sam returned Onix to her pokeball and Lucy returning Dusclops to his, they use their Rotom Phones to trade their Pokemon; soon after, they traded their Pokemon back to each other.
"Now let's see what our Pokemon are now." said Sam. Lucy tosses her Dusclops pokeball and releases him; he was now black with a light gray, cylindrical head with a red eye that resembled a smiling mouth, his arms were muscular with two yellow bands around each of them with light gray hands on the end of them, two almond shaped marking on his torso that resembled eyes and a yellow zigzag line below them so it looked like there's a face in the middle of it, and he had a wispy tail instead of feet. Lucy points her Rotom Phone at her newly evolved Dusclops.
"Dusknoir, the Gripper Pokemon and the final evolved form of Duskull. With the mouth on its belly, Dusknoir swallows its target whole. The soul is the only thing eaten— Dusknoir disgorges the body before departing." said Lucy's Rotom Phone. Lucy looks up at her Dusknoir.
"Wicked." said Lucy.
When Sam's Onix was out of her pokeball, she was bigger, her head was wider, her body was a silvery-gray, and she had long spikes coming out of the sides of her body. Sam points her Rotom Phone at her newly evolved Onix.
"Steelix, the Iron Snake Pokemon, and the evolved form of Onix. It is thought its body transformed as a result of iron accumulating internally from swallowing soil." said Sam's Rotom Phone.
"Wow; Onix went from rock to heavy metal." said Sam.
"Please; I hear enough jokes from Luan." said Lucy.
"Well, thanks for the mock trade, Lucy." said Sam. Lucy nods in response; she and Sam return their Pokemon to their pokeballs and continued looking around the marketplace.
Lincoln and the others walking around for a while before they see Hop standing in front of stairs that led to the Stow-on-Side stadium.
"Hey, everyone." said Hop, waving at him.
"Hey, Hop." replied Lincoln, walking over to him. "What's up?"
"I'm still not too sure about what I should do about all that stuff I told you and the others before." said Hop. "About me being weak and dragging Lee's good name and all, yeah?"
"All you can really do is train more and get stronger." said Lincoln.
"I know." said Hop. "Can I battle one of your friends or sisters?"
"How come?" asked Lincoln.
"I want to try out some new strategies I've been working on and see how effective they are, along with any changes I should make to them." said Hop. Lincoln looks back at his group.
"Anyone want to battle Hop?" asked Lincoln.
"I could use a warm-up before my gym battle tomorrow." said Luna as she steps forward.
"Thanks." said Hop. Everyone spreads out to make some battling room for the two of them. Hop and Luna each pull out a pokeball; Hop throws his, releasing a blue, birdlike Pokemon.
"What's that?" asked Lana as she takes out her Rotom Phone and points it at the Pokemon.
"Cramorant, the Gulp Pokemon. This hungry Pokémon swallows Arrokuda whole. Occasionally, it makes a mistake and tries to swallow a Pokémon other than its preferred prey." said Lana's Rotom Phone.
Luna throws her pokeball, releasing her Toxtricity.
"Cramorant, use Dive!" said Hop. Cramorant flies up and dives into the ground as if it were made of water.
"How did it make the ground do that?" asked Clyde.
"Pokemon are so amazing." said Lincoln.
"If I can't attack Cramorant right how, then I can let get ready when I can; Toxtricity, use Charge!" said Luna. Toxtricity gathers energy himself and boosts his special defense. Suddenly, Cramorant pops out of the ground and hits Toxtricity.
"Good one, Cramorant!" said Hop. Everyone notices that Cramorant had an Arrokuda in its mouth.
"Where did it get that from?" asked Sam.
"Toxtricity, use Discharge!" said Luna. Toxtricity releases a blast of electricity from his body that hits Cramorant, doing lots of super effective damage; and before it passes out, the Arrokuda in its beak shoots out and hits Toxtricity.
"That's handy." said Ronnie Anne. Hop returns his Cramorant to its pokeball, puts it in his pocket, then pulls out another one; he throws it, releasing a Toxel.
"Why would he use that Pokemon?" asked Lana. "It doesn't know many attacks and they wouldn't affect Toxtricity."
"Toxel, use Nuzzle!" said Hop. Toxel runs over to Toxtricity and nuzzles his leg, barely doing anything to him; suddenly, Toxtricity starts to twitch.
"So that's what he was going for." said Lincoln. "Nuzzle paralyzes the Pokemon it's used on."
"Toxtricity, use Flail!" said Luna. Toxtricity fights through paralysis and flails around, hitting Toxel, knocking it out.
"I feel bad for the little dude." said Sam.
"It was nothing personal." said Lincoln. Hop frowns as he returns his Toxel to its pokeball; he puts it back in his pocket, pulls out another one, and throws it, releasing a Silicobra.
"He has a Silicobra like I did." said Lana.
"Silicobra, use Dig!" said Hop. Silicobra tunnels into the ground, vanishing from sight.
"Keep your eyes open, dude." said Luna. As Toxtricity looks around, Silicobra bursts out of the ground and rams Toxtricity, dealing super effective damage.
"Toxtricity, try using Flail!" said Luna. Unfortunately for her, paralysis stops Toxtricity from attacking.
"Brutal Swing!" said Hop. Silicobra's tail glowed pink and it swings it at Toxtricity, hitting it, and knocking him back; he struggles to stay on his feet.
"Flail!" said Luna. Toxtricity fights through his paralyis and thrashes Silicobra, knocking it out. "Good thing Flail becomes more powerful when the Pokemon using it is weakened." Hop returns Silicobra to its pokeball and pulls out another one.
"Go, Thwackey!" said Hop, throwing Thwackey's pokeball and releasing it. "Use Knock Off!" Thwackey leaps at Toxtricity and strikes him with one of its sticks, knocking Toxtricity out. "Way to go, Thwackey." Thwackey raises its stick and lets out a yell.
"I can't believe that Toxtricity lost." said Lola.
"What's Luna going to do now?" asked Leni. Luna returns Toxtricity to his pokeball.
"You were rockin' Toxtricity." said Luna. She puts Toxtricity's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "Let's go, Exploud!" She throws Exploud's pokeball and releases him. "Exploud, use Crunch!" Exploud runs at Thwackey while his teeth were glowing and bites down onto Thwackey, damaging him, and weakening its defense.
"Razor Leaf!" said Hop. Thwackey swings its head and releases leaves from the leaves on its head and they hit Exploud, making him take a step back.
"Exploud, use Stomp!" said Luna. Exploud jumps at Thwackey and stomps down on it with his foot, knocking it out. "Rock on, Exploud!"
"Luna won!" cheered Leni.
"Hop did good himself." said Lincoln. Hop sulks as he returns his Thwackey to its pokeball; he walks over to Luna and the two shake hands.
"You're Pokemon are tough." said Hop.
"We all take the time to train them up very often." said Luna.
"Maybe I need to take some time to train my Pokemon also." said Hop. A look of resolve appears on his face. "I am going to get stronger, so I don't disgrace my brother!"
"That's the spirit, Hop!" said Clyde. Hop runs off somewhere to do some training.
"You think he's going to be okay?" asked Lana.
"I think he'll be just fine." said Lincoln.
Lincoln, along with his sisters and friends, had a quick reunion with Hop. What will their next gym battle be like? Wait and find out.
