Now, this is an idea I have had in mind for a long time since watching Yugioh Zexal. I was amused by the idea of Dark Mist becoming the main number for Yuma's deck, but what if Yuma was actually a Dark duelist, one who didn't 'high five the sky' and liked getting rough with his opponents?
Oh, and Yuma is a female in this one since she will also be a bit older than in the canon version. I hardly ever see the main characters in the Yugioh series being genderswapped since it would cause some hilarity and amusement, so why not?
Fifteen-year-old Yumi Tsukumo was looking at her deck, spread out on her desk, to prepare for the duel she was going to have against Shark, or Reginald Castle, tomorrow since he was the one to challenge her after he destroyed Bronk in a duel.
Yumi was a dark one since she enjoyed causing pain and watching her opponents suffer as they lost all hope before losing. It was all thanks to her new way of understanding that her useless, cowardly old self was just a phase because she was no longer that coward who listened to that fool of a father when he put her in danger and didn't care about her wellbeing after literally ditching on that day.
"Tch. Feeling the flow? That's what you tell a fifteen-year-old girl who's terrified of her life before you ditch her? Father of the year he was." Yumi mumbled the last part since she didn't have the best relationship with her father due to her being afraid on those trips that he hoped would give her the confidence to 'feel the flow.'
Yumi held the key in her hands, recalling the memories she had with her father before he vanished without a trace.
It had been a long time since he had last seen this key, and holding it only brought up the bad memories of how she had received it in the first place. It, along with several other items, had been left to her in her father's will. Her father was now either dead or missing, but Yumi didn't care either way since all she could remember was when she thought of her father on that damned camping trip, the trip that had sealed her fate as a duelist who doesn't give a care about useless things like friendship, and 'feeling the flow.'
Going out with her father had been such an escape, a way to be free from school for at least a short time since while she wasn't a genius or idiot at school, out there, nobody called her stupid, teased her for not being able to do a decent duel, and other things.
After all, how could she be a good duelist when many of the other girls bully and mock her and have their little friends demolish her deck, card by card, piece by piece?
It didn't matter if she went to the teachers to stop the bullying since they didn't care about it or the banned rule about taking a person's card when they lost.
At the very least, she could pretend to be fine when she was with her father, but then, that one climb up that cliff face changed everything.
"I can't do it! It's too scary. I can't do it!"
"Of course you can, Yumi! Just feel the flow!"
And then, without a further word, her father kept climbing. Yumi, held by only a thin rope, could do nothing but follow lest it snap.
Continually being dragged onward and upward, against the cold and the wind and the fear, her father ignoring or not hearing her crying to stop, her hands and knees cut against the stone as her little body struggled to keep up with her father's strong movements, so much unlike her own.
But then the camel's back broke.
The rope snapped from being put under so much strain, her father too far up and too fast for Yumi to keep up with him. Yumi was lucky to be so close to the ledge where her father had pulled up, and all she had to do was haul her body up the last foot or so of bedrock.
Unfortunately, her body was too tired and worn out as her hand lost its grip, too numb even to try and exert any strength.
If her father hadn't caught him…well, that would have been nice of her father, wouldn't it?
Unfortunately, that's not what happened.
When she fell from her spot, she was barely able to survive because of her landing in a tree, and it softened her descent from the cliff, but her father didn't seem to care that she actually fell from the cliffside. And all it did was make her enraged how her father gave little to no concern, thinking she would be able to say that stupid catchphrase.
After recovering from her fall, Yumi had to make her way back to camp on her own rather than having her dad save her. And to add the cherry on top of the traumatic experience, her father was already asleep in his sleeping bag without a care in the world.
That destroyed her relationship with her father since Yumi couldn't believe that her father didn't even seem concerned or try to call out to her when she fell and almost DIED!
When his father went missing only a few weeks later, Yumi found that she felt little for the father, who should have been able to do so much for her. Yet, she couldn't even feel anything since all she felt was anger at her old man for just abandoning her and didn't even care about her wellbeing.
When the box of various ancient trinkets came into her possession, she felt a hollow emptiness, as if any hope of her 'feeling the flow' or even some words of encouragement were null and void now.
Until today, Yumi felt the strings of the old and dusty hammock creak from the strain as she shivered a bit from the cold, recalling the same dream she had had for a long time until she finally opened that damned door.
It was nothing more than a creepy door that muttered like an old legend or prophecy in a cartoon she had watched as a kid.
"Whoever opens this door shall have nothing to fear. But in exchange, they will lose what is most precious."
And for a long time, she didn't care enough to open that door. Granted, it was a terrifying thing, all tall and demonic, stone mouth large enough to swallow her whole should it not feel like bothering to chew Yumi up with the large, foot-long teeth.
However, she didn't care since she didn't need some false power to help her get stronger. Yumi just needed to let go of her past and leave the old Yumi behind for the new one to take over, which she did, thanks to her duels in Underground Dueling.
Underground Dueling had become Yumi's sanctuary—a place where she could finally shed the weak, naive version of herself that had clung to the idea of friendship and hope. It was nothing like the sanitized, regulated duels she once knew at school.
The Underground was raw, brutal, and unforgiving. Here, a duel wasn't just a test of skill—it was a battle of endurance, and Yumi was all too eager to prove herself. This place was where she went to gain the power she craved and leave the old Yumi behind for good.
It all started after one particularly brutal day at school. Her so-called friends had torn her apart verbally, mocking her dueling skills and how she couldn't win a match even if she tried.
After that day, Yumi had wandered the streets, her mind reeling from the taunts, when she found herself near the city's outskirts. The dark alleyways and dimly lit buildings called out to her like beacons for those lost to the normal world. She followed the shadows, her heart hardened and found the entrance to what would change her life—an underground dueling arena.
The first night, there was a blur.
The atmosphere was charged with energy and tension, far more intense than anything she had ever felt at a regular tournament. There was no distracting crowd, no flashing lights—just the cold, calculating gazes of the duelists who had come to claim victory at any cost.
No one cared about fairness or sportsmanship.
The duelists in the Underground thrived on cruelty, and it was here that Yumi saw the truth: strength was the only thing that mattered when it came to dueling.
Her first duel was a brutal wake-up call.
Yumi had stepped in, still clinging to the strategies she'd once thought could get her through any match. She had been crushed, utterly dismantled by an opponent who didn't hesitate to use underhanded tactics and relentless aggression.
But in that loss, she saw something—an opportunity. Instead of retreating into the shell of her old self, Yumi learned her first lesson: power wasn't given. It was taken.
The next day, while nursing her defeat, she met a fellow duelist who was also a loner like her at school.
Cathy was the only person she could talk to at school and enjoy their company. Maybe it was because they both had a shared love for things others didn't understand. Yumi's love for cats was a secret she kept close, but it was something Cathy picked up early. Yumi also didn't judge her for being rich and enjoyed having a real friend.
Their bond was quiet but strong. Cathy didn't bother Yumi with questions about ridiculous things like the other girls did when she overheard them at school; she respected Yumi's space when she wanted to be alone, and in return, Yumi found herself actually enjoying the girl's company.
Cathy and Yumi even dueled each other a few times, and Yumi was happy to use her new skills in the underground duels.
After a few weeks, when she lost the first time, Yumi sharpened her deck, replacing her weaker cards with darker, more aggressive ones—monsters like Dark Armed Dragon and spells that allowed her to sacrifice her opponent's monsters or steal them to use them for herself.
The change in her deck mirrored the change in herself. The old Yumi, the one who cried and pleaded for her father's attention when she was afraid, was gone, replaced by someone who relished in the destruction of others.
Her victories in the Underground earned her a reputation as the Dark Queen, and she even changed her attire.
When Yumi entered the dueling arena, her presence commanded immediate attention.
Gone were her old clothes, and now, it was a true testament to her new self.
A long, black leather coat flows behind her, the red inner lining catching glimpses of light with every step. The coat's edges move like shadows, whispering with the promise of chaos as they brush the ground.
Beneath the coat, her deep violet corset is tightly fitted, and the black lace detailing is intricate and almost elegant—until one notices the chaotic crimson embroidery swirling across it like cracks in reality.
The corset emphasized her dominance, hugging her figure and drawing a clear line between her and the opposition. Her asymmetrical skirt is jagged and torn in a way that feels purposeful. It is short in the front, reveals tight black duelist leggings, and is perfect for movement and intimidation.
Her boots, high and combat-style, hit the ground with a heavy sound adorned with silver buckles. Her long, black gloves with exposed fingers are made for both elegance and control as if even her hands are weapons in this chaotic game.
Her hair was now a sleek black with sharp violet streaks and spikes, slightly adding to her rebellious, destructive nature. Perched on her head is a jagged, dark metal crown with crimson gemstones, completing her look as the "Queen of Chaos and Destruction."
It was a little gift from a duelist she had defeated who was also a fashion designer.
Her eyes, lined with dark, smoky makeup, scan the arena with an intensity that promises a duel filled with suffering and despair for her opponent. Yumi radiated a calm confidence, ready to watch her enemies crumble beneath her merciless strategies.
Other duelists began to notice her, not as the weakling who had walked in weeks ago, but as a ruthless opponent who didn't flinch in the face of pain or defeat when taking damage to her life points. Yuni embraced the Darkness of the Underground, and in doing so, she gained power. She learned that pain was a tool, not an obstacle. The more she embraced it, the stronger she became.
It was during one of these duels that she truly felt the shift. Her opponent had been a veteran of the Underground, someone who had dominated the scene for months. But Yumi, driven by her desire to erase her past, fought harder than she ever had.
However, when she was about to summon a monster from her extra deck, the door appeared, and if it meant leaving her past self behind, then so be it.
And Yumi finally did it. She finally opened that door and took the power that it gave her. Granted, she said power was scattered now, but she had what she had needed for so long: power.
She jammed the key into the door and was brought back to her duel, where she summoned Dark Mist, her ace, who was the key to her victory.
The Monster, with its ability to drain the strength of others, was a perfect reflection of Yumi's new philosophy—if she couldn't win by strength alone, she would take it from her opponents.
That duel ended with her opponent lying on the ground, defeated and broken, as the crowd watched in stunned silence. Yumi had done more than win; she had crushed him. She stood over him, feeling nothing but satisfaction. The old Yumi would have felt guilt or maybe even sympathy. But not this Yumi. This Yumi knew that this was the path to real power.
From that moment on, Yumi became one of the top duelists in the Underground, feared and respected by all. She had embraced the Darkness fully and, in doing so, had destroyed the weak, fearful girl she once was.
She left the arena that night, clutching her deck, with Dark Mist looming in her thoughts. It had been her partner in this transformation, and together, they would grow even stronger. As Yumi walked through the city streets, she felt a strange sense of peace. She was no longer shackled by the past, by her father's betrayal, or by her weakness.
In the Underground, Yumi had learned the only lesson that mattered: to survive, you had to be ruthless. And she had every intention of proving that lesson in tomorrow's duel against Shark.
At the school, many students had recently fallen to the troubled student, Shark, and his ferocious, almost vengeful, dueling. Just today, Yumi had been unfortunate enough to see Bronk, the strongest duelist in her class, fall to the terrifying rouge duelist. Then Shark spotted her and designated her as his next victim "for a breather round," as Shark had put it.
"That is all a pathetic person like you could offer at your best, anyways."
"Tch. Enjoy your glory while it lasts, Shark. You're about to deal with someone who has true power." Yumi said before heading some chuckling as Dark Mist appeared in his Astral form.
"Hehehe. You seem rather excited, Your Majesty."
"Must you call me that?"
"But of course. You not only earned my respect, but you've done well gaining a powerful deck and using your other XYZ monsters with my form." Dark Mist said that he liked her style and how she struck fear into her enemies while showing no mercy.
"Heh. Still, I do appreciate your assistance since these number cards took a lot of work to find, even with my connections in the Underground Dueling Arena." Yumi said before she leaned back in her chair, her fingers tracing the edges of the cards in her Extra Deck. Dark Mist was, of course, the star of her strategy, the card she trusted the most, but she still had a few other Xyz monsters that served her well in the Underground. As she thumbed through the stack, her mind wandered to the duels she had fought with each one.
Galaxy Queen was one of the more recent additions to her deck. Its ability to make all of her monsters immune to battle destruction for a full turn had saved her more than once. She remembered the smirk on her opponent's face the first time she summoned it, expecting to take down her monsters easily, only for Galaxy Queen's protection to turn the tide.
She set the card aside, flipping through the others.
Baby Tiragon was another Xyz monster that, while cute in appearance, had a surprising level of utility. Being able to let her low-level monsters attack directly was a dirty trick she liked to pull when her opponent least expected it. The duelists in the Underground had learned quickly not to underestimate her just because a monster looked harmless.
She smiled at the memory of her opponents' disbelief when such an unassuming creature beat them down.
Then there was Djinn Buster. It had been an absolute powerhouse in her deck, negating monster effects and providing control over the field. She used it to disrupt her opponents' combos when they were sure they'd have the upper hand. That kind of ruthless precision was something Yumi thrived on—it was the sort of power that defined her now.
But what truly drew her attention was Number 45: Crumble Logos, the Prophet of Demolition. A recent acquisition from the Underground duels, Crumble Logos had quickly become one of her favorite Xyz monsters outside of Dark Mist. Its ability to negate the effects of her opponent's cards—especially those that relied on continuous traps or spells—fit perfectly into her strategy of dismantling her opponent's hopes.
Yumi's finger paused on the final cards in the stack: the Djinn Band members—Xyz monsters like Temtempo and others that she had won in some of her earliest Underground matches. While not as powerful or intimidating as her other Xyz monsters, they had their uses, offering different utilities depending on the situation.
But still… they lacked the sheer destructive force that she craved now. They were fine for control, but Yumi had moved beyond just winning on technicalities. She wanted to crush her opponents, to watch their strategies fall apart completely.
She sighed, staring at the assortment of monsters. Dark Mist was her ace, but she needed something… more. Something with the same hunger for victory as her.
Dark Mist's voice interrupted her thoughts.
"Still trying to search for more Numbers, Your Majesty?" it said, its ghostly form flickering beside her.
Yumi glanced at him, then back at the cards. "Yeah. I've won the numbers I currently have in my Underground duels, but so far, there haven't been any new ones showing up lately."
Dark Mist chuckled darkly. "Of course not. But there are others out there. Powerful Numbers like myself, waiting for a worthy master to claim them. All you need to do is seek them out."
Yumi clenched her fists, feeling a surge of determination. "And I will. But for now, Shark is my next target. He's strong, but he doesn't understand real power. I'll make him see it tomorrow."
Dark Mist grinned, his hollow eyes gleaming. "That's the spirit. With me by your side, your reign will continue. Shark doesn't stand a chance."
Yumi stood up, placing her Extra Deck cards into her deck box. Tomorrow's duel was just another stepping stone. She would prove once again why she was the Dark Queen of Underground Dueling, and Shark would know the real meaning of fear.
"Tomorrow," Yumi whispered, "I'll show him what real power looks like."
Yumi then headed to sleep as she dreamed of defeating the rogue duelist.
The next morning, Yumi awoke to the soft light of dawn filtering through her bedroom window. She stretched, feeling a familiar surge of adrenaline course through her veins as she remembered what lay ahead. Today was the day she would face Shark—and show him exactly why she was feared in the Underground.
After getting dressed in her signature outfit—black leather coat, violet corset, and combat boots—Yumi made her way downstairs. Her grandmother was already in the kitchen, humming softly as she prepared breakfast. Despite everything, her grandmother had always been supportive, even though she didn't know the full extent of Yumi's involvement in Underground Dueling.
As Yumi entered the room, her grandmother turned to her with a warm smile, holding out a small package. "Morning, Yumi. I made you some Duel Fuel. Thought you might need the extra energy for that match today."
Yumi chuckled, accepting the package. Her grandmother's Duel Fuel—a rice ball she made herself—was a mix of healthy ingredients, and it had become a tradition before any of Yumi's big duels. "Thanks, Grandma."
Her grandmother's eyes twinkled as she patted Yumi's arm. "Give that bully a good beating, okay? He sounds like he deserves it."
Yumi giggled softly, nodding. "You can count on it."
With the Duel Fuel stashed in her coat pocket, Yumi headed out the door, her deck safely secured in her Duel Disk. As she stepped onto the street, Dark Mist's shadowy form flickered into existence beside her, floating lazily as if it had been waiting for this moment all night.
"Hehehe," Dark Mist chuckled. "Excited, Your Majesty?"
Yumi smirked as she walked, her boots clicking against the pavement. "More than ever. Shark thinks he's going to intimidate me, but I'll show him what real fear looks like."
Dark Mist hovered closer, its ominous form shifting with each step she took. "I look forward to seeing him crumble before us."
The streets were quiet as Yumi made her way to the duel arena where she and Shark had agreed to meet. It was an isolated lot near the school, one often used by students who wanted to duel without prying eyes. The perfect place for what she had planned.
As she approached the lot, she spotted Shark already waiting. He stood with his arms crossed, his expression as fierce as ever, his Duel Disk glinting in the sunlight. His eyes narrowed as Yumi arrived, but Yumi met his gaze without flinching. She wasn't the least bit intimidated.
"You finally showed up," Shark said, a smirk playing on his lips. "I was beginning to think you'd back out, but I guess even you have some guts."
Yumi smirked back, feeling Dark Mist's presence beside her like a shadow. "Back out? Please. I'm just here to teach you that power isn't something you're born with. It's something you take."
Shark raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed. "We'll see about that."
They both activated their Duel Disks simultaneously, the familiar hum of energy filling the air as their Duel Gazers slid into place over their eyes. The holographic field shimmered into existence around them, bringing the digital world of monsters and magic to life.
"Duel!" they both shouted in unison.
Yumi drew her opening hand, the cards sliding smoothly into place in her Duel Disk. She glanced down at them, a calculating gleam in her eyes as she assessed her options. Her starting hand was okay: she had a few good opening plays, including cards that would allow her to set the stage for summoning Dark Mist later.
"I'll go first," Yumi declared, her voice calm and controlled. She selected her first card and placed it onto her Duel Disk. "I summon Gagaga Magician in attack position!"
The familiar figure of Gagaga Magician appeared on Yumi's field, his dark robes fluttering in the wind as he readied himself for battle. His chains glowed with arcane energy as Yumi set the next part of her play into motion.
"But that's not all," Yumi continued. "Since I control a Dark monster, I can special summon Caligo Claw Crow from my hand!"
A dark, winged creature swooped onto the field, its form outlined in shadows. It landed beside Gagaga Magician, its red eye gleaming. The combination was falling into place, and Yumi's lips curled into a confident smirk.
"Now for my spell," Yumi said, flipping her card face-up. "I activate Dark Copy! I target a Dark monster on the field, and my spell card becomes a copy of the Monster without their abilities or attack points."
Shark narrowed his eyes, already sensing the threat building on Yumi's side of the field. The shadows around Caligo Claw Crow shifted and morphed, transforming it into a mirror image of the crow.
"But I'm not done," Yumi continued, raising her hand dramatically. "I activate Gagaga Magician's effect! I can change his level to any between 1 and 8. I choose level 2!"
The numbers floating above Gagaga Magician shifted, dropping to 2 as the magical energy surrounding him crackled with new intensity.
"I now overlay my three Level 2 monsters to build the Overlay Network!" Yumi declared, thrusting her hand toward the sky as the two monsters were drawn into a swirling vortex of energy. "I Xyz Summon Number 96: Dark Mist!"
The vortex exploded outward, revealing Dark Mist, a fearsome entity of pure shadow. Its form was dark and menacing as it hovered over Yumi's side of the field. Its eyes gleamed with malevolence as it stared down Shark, waiting for its first command.
"Not bad," Shark muttered, his gaze fixed on Dark Mist. "But don't think that'll stop me."
Yumi smirked, confident in the power she had on her field. "I'll set two cards facedown and end my turn. Let's see what you've got, Shark."
Dark Mist's presence lingered next to her, its spectral form watching Shark with an amused grin. Yumi could feel the excitement building within herself, too. This duel was just getting started, and she had plenty more in store for him.
"Then here I go, draw!" Shark said before looking at his card. "Nice!"
Shark drew his card, his eyes sharp with focus. He glanced at his hand, quickly assessing his options. Yumi could feel the intensity of his concentration; Shark was no ordinary duelist, and she knew he wouldn't take it easy on her.
"I summon Hammer Shark in attack position!" Shark declared.
A massive shark-like creature, half-submerged in water, appeared on his field. Its iron-like hammerhead gleamed in the light as it growled menacingly.
Shark still needs to be done. "And now I activate Hammer Shark's effect! Once per turn, I can reduce his level by 1 to special summon a Level 3 or lower Water monster from my hand." The numbers above Hammer Shark dropped from 4 to 3 as Shark reached for another card. "I summon Big Jaws in attack position!"
Another shark-like monster, more streamlined and sleek, emerged beside Hammer Shark, its fanged mouth snapping open and shut as it prepared for battle.
Shark had all he needed, but before he could summon Aero Shark, his body began to release a dark aura, which intrigued the Dark Duelist since she knew what that aura meant.
"He has a number card. Maybe this'll be fun after all." Yumi muttered to herself while Dark Mist agreed with her as Shark continued his turn.
"Now I overlay my Level 3 Hammer Shark and Big Jaws to build the Overlay Network!" Shark declared, thrusting his hand forward. "I Xyz Summon Number 17: Leviathan Dragon!"
A massive sea serpent burst forth from a whirlpool of energy, its enormous form coiling and writhing as it rose from the depths. Its glowing red eyes locked onto Yumi, and its sharp fangs gleamed dangerously in the light.
"Number 17, huh?" Yumi muttered, her eyes narrowing. Shark's Leviathan Dragon was a powerhouse, and she knew it could quickly become a threat if not dealt with.
Shark smirked. "I activate Leviathan Dragon's effect! By detaching one Xyz material, I can boost its attack by 500 points. Why stop at one when I can use the second one!"
Both of the orbs circling Leviathan Dragon disappeared, and the creature roared as its attack power surged, rising from 2000 to 3000.
"Now, Leviathan Dragon, attack Dark Mist!" Shark commanded, his voice cold and determined.
The massive dragon reared back, opening its jaws as a torrent of energy began to gather in its mouth, ready to obliterate Yumi's Monster.
But Yumi was ready. "Not so fast!" she shouted, flipping over one of her facedown cards. "I activate Dark Mist's special ability! By using one Overlay Unit, Dark Mist can absorb half your Monster's attack points!"
Dark Mist laughed as Dark Mist absorbed half of Leviathan Dragon's attack before Dark Mist fought back and destroyed the dragon, making Shark growl and his Life Points fell a bit.
[Dark Mist: 1600 ATK]
[Leviathan Dragon: 3000/2=1500]
[Shark LP: 4000-100=3900]
"Tch, you got lucky," Shark growled. "But your Dark Mist is still weak compared to what I have in store."
Yumi smirked, unphased. "Let's see how long that confidence lasts, Shark."
Shark clicked his tongue in irritation. "I'll set one card facedown and end my turn. Let's see you try to survive now."
Yumi's fingers curled around her next card as she prepared for her comeback. Dark Mist was still on her field, and it was time to unleash its true potential.
"My turn! Draw!" she declared, feeling the surge of anticipation as she glanced at her next card. "Let's see what happens when the shadows fight back!"
Dark Mist floated beside her, its sinister grin widening as it awaited its master's next move. The real duel was about to begin.
"I'll take care of your facedown, thanks to my Shadow Eater!" Yumi declared as she summoned Shadow Eater, who took on the form of a spellcaster that seemed to be entirely made of shadows.
Shadow Eater
DARK / Fiend / Effect
Level: 4
ATK: 1600
DEF: 1200
Effect:
When this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can target 1 Spell or Trap card your opponent controls; destroy that target, and if you do, this card gains 300 ATK for each Spell card and 600 ATK for each Trap card in the opponent's graveyard.
"And when Shadow Eater is summoned, I can target one of your Spell or Trap cards and have it devoured!"
Shadow Eater's eyes glinted as it zeroed in on Shark's facedown card, its form shifting and growing more menacing. The shadowy tendrils lashed out, wrapping around the hidden card as they crushed it into nothingness. Shark's facedown card shattered into fragments, and Shadow Eater began to feed on the remnants of the destroyed card.
"Since it was a Trap card," Yumi continued, her voice cold, "Shadow Eater gains 600 Attack Points, giving it a total of 2200 ATK."
Shark's scowl deepened as Shadow Eater's form grew larger and more imposing. Its power surged, and the shadows around it cracked with dark energy as it prepared to strike.
[Shadow Eater – ATK: 1600=2200]
Yumi glanced at Dark Mist, still hovering ominously by her side. "Now, let's clean up what's left. Shadow Eater, attack Shark directly!"
Shadow Eater lunged forward, its tendrils snapping out to lash at Shark, who braced himself as his Life Points took a hit.
[Shark LP: 3900-2200=1700]
Yumi crossed her arms confidently. "It's your turn, Shark. But I don't think you'll last much longer, so make your move."
Shark wiped the corner of his mouth, glaring at Yumi. "Don't count me out yet. I've got a few more tricks up my sleeve…"
Shark drew his next card and smiled as he used Surface to bring back Big Jaws and Monster Reborn to summon back Leviathan Dragon before doing something that surprised Yumi.
"I overlay Number 17: Leviathan Dragon and summon Chaos Number 17: Leviathan Dragon of the Abyss!" Shark shouted as the massive dragon transformed into a new, chaotic version of itself.
Name: Chaos Number 17: Leviathan Dragon of the Abyss
Type: Dragon / Xyz
Attribute: Dark
Rank: 4
ATK/DEF: 3000/2500
Effect:
1. This card can only be summoned by overlaying Number 17: Leviathan Dragon.
2. Gains 300 ATK for each Xyz Material attached to it.
3. Once per turn, this card can take a Water monster from the field with the same level as its Rank or one lower and add it to its Overlay Units.
"And now I activate his special ability! I can add BigJaws to my dragon's Overlay Units and give Leviathan Dragon more power!" Shark said as he laughed while the dragon grew stronger.
[Leviathan Dragon: 3000=600=3600]
"And now attack Shadow Eater!" Shark yelled, knowing Dark Mist was too dangerous until Yumi smirked.
"Nope! I activated my Trap: Shadow Shift! This trap allows me to force your Monster from one Dark Monster to another one on my field, so attack Dark Mist and use your ability! Shadow Gain!" Yumi yelled as Dark Mist became the attacked Monster. But it was all part of her plan as Leviathan Dragon lost more power.
[Dark Mist: 1600 plus 1800=3400]
[Leviathan Dragon: 3600/2=1800]
Dark Mist destroyed Leviathan Dragon and harmed Shark's life points.
[Shark LP: 1700-1600=100!]
"Cute trick, but it won't save you forever! I activate the spell Overlay Heal! And for every Overlay Unit, one of my monsters had, I gain a thousand life points." Shark said with a sigh of relief as his life points rose.
[Shark LP: 100 plus 2000=2100]
"And I'll end my turn by putting a monster in defense mode," Shark said, knowing that was all he could do for now, but Yumi smiled.
"So much for the big bad Shark," Yumi said as she drew her next card and smiled. I'll summon my Equip Spell, Shadow Claw, to my Shadow Eater since this card allows my Monster to negate your destroyed Monster's abilities."
Shadow Eater cackled as his claws glowed ominously before Yumi sent her Monster to destroy Shark's facedown before Dark Mist finished this duel, which made Yumi smirk as the Number card flew to her, and she caught it.
"Hm. It's a bit basic in its forms but could be useful in the long run." Yumi muttered to herself before knowing how this victory could come to bite her back, so she needed Shark to keep quiet about this.
Shark groaned before looking at Yumi, who had a smile on her face as she spoke to him.
"Let's keep this between us. I don't want to be annoyed by others who will only surround me like some harpies because I beat you, so let's say you let me off easy, and in return, I keep this card. It's a win-win when you think about it. I get a new card, and you keep your pride." Yumi said before Shark just nodded in agreement, which made Yumi smile as she began to leave.
"Thanks for the duel. Bye-bye!" Yumi said as she smiled at her new Number monster while this amused Dark Mist.
"Nicely played, Your Highness." Dark Mist said in amusement while Yumi chuckled in response.
"Indeed. This will truly be fun. Now I wonder, just who'll be my next victim." Yumi said as she looked forward to not only becoming a Duelist Champion but also destroying anyone who got in her way.
Scene!
This is just a pilot, so let me know if it should live or die in the reviews since I thought a touch of Darkness would make a really interesting protagonist instead of a goody two shoes like the others.
