A/N
Hey y'all, I'm sorry I've been away for a while. I had some really bad writer's block, and then I got in a pretty bad wreck (which was terrifying as someone not even outta their teens) but I think I'm back now. Updates might be closer together than normal, but I honestly can't tell you if that's true or not. Anyway enough moping from me, on to the story.
Seven
The lights were still off in the main area of the mall. Raina was forced to stay slightly behind the animatronics so she could actually see what the hell she was doing. Monty had suggested going to the kitchens, claiming that Freddy likely would've taken the boy to get something to eat, especially since it had been a good hour or so since they'd gotten trapped and separated.
Minutes later, and the trio stood just outside the entrance to the kitchens, walking in through the double doors. Raina looked around, trying to get her eyes to adjust to the much darker scene of the kitchens. Glancing over at Monty, she asks him to turn on the flood lights in his eyes.
"It's a lil weird that you know so much about our endoskeletons, Sheila."
Raina shrugged, wondering where the nickname came from. "I told ya, I'm a mechanic, I read your manual."
Before the conversation can continue, a sound rings out in the kitchen, something that sounded suspiciously like a human scream. Without thinking, Raina ran towards the noise, gripping her bat so tightly her knuckles turned white. When she got to the back of the kitchens, her eyes landed on the source of the screams.
It was her little brother. And in front of him stood a deranged looking white bunny, the knife in its hand gleaming in the low light. Freddy was nowhere to be seen. The bunny hadn't taken notice of Raina's presence, and the teen used that to her advantage.
Sneaking behind the rabbit was much easier than Raina would've thought it to be, but she had always managed to quiet her footsteps when she really needed to. The teen brought the bat carefully up behind her head, fixing her stance to better aim for the rabbit. Rage was written across her face when her dual colored eyes caught sight of the bleeding scratches on Gregory's face and arms.
The bat came down fast and hard, a harsh thunk resounding to the animatronics who'd finally made their way into the back of the kitchens. The bunny dropped, the white suit's head flopping around as if the suit wasn't entirely made for the body it held. Raina didn't bother with the suit, letting it sit there. She ran to her brother, sliding on her knees until she could kneel beside him.
Other than the cuts on his body, he didn't look too worse for wear. The boy was definitely frightened, and he looked exhausted, but his blue eyes lit up with recognition before a hiccup escaped him. Soon, Raina was holding her brother tightly against herself, petting down his back as tears stained her borrowed and bloody shirt. When the boy was calmer and could actually breathe, she set him aside and glanced around.
Her eyes locked onto Monty and he tilted his head slightly, silently asking if he was okay. If they both were. She just nodded ever so slightly before another sound was heard in the distance.
"Chica…" Gregory muttered, not looking up from his well-worn sneakers.
"What about Chica, Kiddo?" Raina questioned, gently tilting the boy's chin up to meet her eyes.
"She was in here when the bunny first came after me. Freddy and I split up, he was supposed to get Chica. It was like he couldn't even see the rabbit-lady."
Raina looked back at Monty and Moon. "Could y'all see the rabbit?"
Monty shook his head, while the moon stared silently. Raina hummed slightly before she stood up, grabbing onto Gregory's arm, hauling him up beside her. She sent one last look at the white rabbit suit before turning her back to it and walking to the animatronics that had followed her.
"Alright, Kiddo. I want you to stay here with Mr. Moon, okay? Me and Monty are gonna go see if we can't find Chica and Freddy."
Raina didn't give either animatronic nor kid time to argue, quickly grabbing up her bat and making her way towards the back of the kitchens. She only turned her head back when she didn't hear the loud step of the giant alligator behind her. Monty vented slightly, before he stomped over to the human girl, looking down at her with his violet eyes. She was so damned stubborn. Maybe too much so.
The back of the kitchens was eerily quiet, even though Raina had seen many little helper and security bots around. She wanted to find Chica and Freddy as soon as she could. She didn't like the idea of leaving Gregory there by himself. Sure, the animatronics would protect him, but what good would they be against something they couldn't even see?
Raina's wounds were agitated again, and every few steps she winced, the injury to her side most likely having been her ribs, not just her flesh. She could feel the skin wanting to tear again, the droplets of blood staining her shirt making her worry slightly. If she didn't manage to sit somewhere and properly tend to her wounds soon, she'd lose consciousness from blood loss. And then she'd be of no use to the animatronics or Gregory.
The pizzaplex's kitchens were huge, so it took them a good couple minutes to find their way around, but when they did, they found Chica next to the garbage disposal. Along with the rabbit suit. Raina had to cover her mouth with her hand to keep herself from making any noise at the surprising sight in front of her. If the rabbit was here, then what did that say for Moon and her kid?
Looking back at a strangled hissing noise, she saw Monty's violet eyes adjusting, trying to spot the white rabbit. Shit. If Monty nor Chica could see the damned rabbit, then she was on her own again. Raina waved a hand in front of Monty's face, getting the animatronic's attention.
"If I can distract the rabbit long enough, can you manage to drag Chica back to the others?" Raina whispered, careful to not let her voice travel across the echoing distance.
Monty merely nodded. The rockstar's voice wasn't able to go as quiet as the human's and he knew that, so he did the next best thing as a confirmation. The alligator didn't necessarily like the plan, but he still knew it was the best course of action considering what they were dealing with. Who they were dealing with, he supposed.
Taking the quick agreement, if hesitant, Raina counted down in her head and on her fingers, starting at three.
One
They didn't know if the rabbit had already noticed them, but for Chica;s sake, they hoped that it hadn't.
Two
Raina could feel her heartbeat slowing down as she forced herself to draw back into herself, her breaths becoming even again.
THREE!
They both launched at the person (or animatronic) they'd been "assigned", Raina scrabbling with the rabbit, while Monty dragged a struggling Chica back into the main kitchen. The rabbit was fighting back hard, but Raina had managed to get onto her back, throwing an arm around the white rabbit's throat. Raina couldn't get enough leverage to do what she wanted to do, so she let her grip go, easily sliding away from the rabbit.
Once again, she ran at the rabbit, tucking her chin into her shoulder and grabbing hold of the rabbit's waist. There wasn't much for her to use, but she grabbed onto whatever fabric she could get her hands on. Planting her feet, she crouched down slightly before sharply throwing her weight backwards. The result was the white rabbit being thrown over the teen's shoulder, their back slamming into the hard tile floor.
The person didn't move once everything was settled. There was no other noise besides Raina's harsh breaths. She didn't know if the white rabbit was dead, but she wasn't taking the chance to have Gregory in the same area as it.
With a slight huff, Raina went back into the main part of the kitchens, not taking her eyes off the white rabbit until she was walking through the doorway. Outside, Monty and Freddy were wrangling with Chica, trying to keep the animatronic from going back to the garbage compost. Monty's violet eyes met her own double colored ones, a slight nod coming from the bigger of the animatronics.
The alligator and bear managed to pin down and hold the chicken long enough for Raina to open up the plate in the back of her neck and dig out the red-ish pink chip, crushing it in her palm. The dust glimmered in the light as it fell from her hand, landing at the shoes of the two humans.
Chica took a bit to power back on, slightly longer than Monty had, but the gator's chip removal had been much more violent. When the chicken's blue eyes turned back on, it seemed as if the whole group took a breath of relief. Raina checked one more of the animatronics off her mental list. That meant there was one more animatronic she had to deal with. And knowing how the wolf was, she had a feeling that it wasn't gonna be as easy as the first three had been.
Looking around at the giant robots that surrounded her though, she also knew that they'd be able to win the wolf back from the white rabbit. She caught the sky blue eyes of her brother, slightly wet from unshed tears. The boy loved this place, these animatronics. Raina had to admit, she was starting to understand why. And she'd be damned if some bastard in a fur suit messed everything up for them.
They had finally found somewhere that they had felt safe, and nobody would take that from them. Nobody would take that from Gregory, not if Raina had anything to say about it.
