Ambush
(Ayla's POV)
*Later, me, Sonic, & Ozzy were on the couch with a bowl of popcorn*
Sonic: All right Ozzie, its movie night at Casa de Hedgehogs and your turn to pick. But I am not watching Snow Dogs again. That movie is the . . . *he sang the last part* wo-o-o-oooorst!
Ayla: At least the dogs are cute.
*Suddenly, the lights went out*
Sonic: Ohoho! Blackout! *he zoomed away & came back with a blanket & a flashlight* Oooohhh... Oooozzzziiiee…
Ayla: Sonic! Don't scare Ozzy!
*Too late. Ozzy ran off, whimpering*
Sonic: Oh, sorry buddy. Everything's okay.
*Just then, the TV turned back, but only showed static*
Ayla: Uh . . . What was that?
Sonic: I don't know. *we both got up from the couch & top-toed towards the door* Um, excuse me? We did not order a poltergeist. *thunder & lightning flashed, showing a shadow on wall. Then the lights started flickering* Um, if this is the pizza guy, this is really unprofessional.
*He put his ear to the door*
Ayla: You hear anything?
Sonic: No.
*He started to reach for the doorknob. Suddenly, sparks started flying out of it, making Sonic jumped. He stood in front of me as the doorknob fell off the door & opened, revealing someone I had hoped we would never see again*
Sonic & Ayla: Eggman!?
Dr. Robotnik: Hello, hedgehogs. Did you miss me?
Ayla: Not a chance.
Sonic: I don't know how you got back, but you made a big mistake coming here.
Dr. Robotnik: Oh contraire mon frere! The mistake was thinking that you've won. But that was just a prelude, an d'oeuvre, an aperitif, an Amuse-bouche -
Sonic & Ayla: We get it!
Dr. Robotnik: I don't think you do. But you're about to. And so will that idiot sheriff and his wife. *Sonic clenched his fist as the energy stared to build up* And your little dog too!
*Sonic jumped at him, ready to punch him with his sparking fist. Just then, Eggman moved to the side, revealing a red echidna wearing spiked boxing gloves, also with a raised sparking fist. Only his sparks were red. He punched my brother in the face, sending him flying through the wall & the TV. He landed on the couch, half destroying it*
Ayla: Sonic! *I ran up to him* Are you okay!?
Sonic: Y - Yeah.
*I looked back through the hole in the wall & saw the echidna, glaring at us*
Knuckles: Pitiful.
*I helped my brother stand up*
Sonic: Uh, what... Who are you?
*Eggman poked his head through the hole*
Dr. Robotnik: Where . . . Are my manners? Sonic, Ayla, meet Knuckles. My new BFFAE. Bestest friend forever and ever!
*Sonic took out the bag of Rings*
Sonic: Look, Robotnik, I don't care who you brought to help you. You're never going to get my power.
Knuckles: Do I look like I need your power?
*He raised his sparking red fist. Sonic went in for another attack, but Knuckles punched him & sent him flying through the wall & into the yard. I ran up to him. Knuckles came into the yard, with his fists still sparking. Behind, Robotnik was eating our popcorn*
Dr. Robotnik: So nice when diabolical evil lives up to the hype!
*I helped my brother stand up again*
Knuckles: Where is it?
Sonic: Oh you want it? Here it comes!
*He started to spark blue*
Knuckles: I was expecting more of you. You're unskilled . . . Untrained . . . And unworthy!
Sonic: You forgot one. Unstoppable!
*He went in for a spin dash, but Knuckles blocked it & pushed back. Then he slammed my brother on the ground, creating a shockwave & a bright light. I covered my eyes. When the light died down, he grabbed my brother by the throat & slammed him into a tree*
Ayla: Sonic!
Knuckles: It is my destiny to do what my ancestors could not. To restore the ultimate power to the home of my people.
Ayla:*in her mind* Ultimate power?
Sonic: Ultimate power? I don't know what you're talking about! You got the wrong guy!
Dr. Robotnik: Ultimate power? Now you're speaking my language.
Knuckles: Don't play dumb with me, eldest apprentice of Longclaw!
*My eyes went wide when I heard that name*
Sonic: You knew Longclaw?
Knuckles: Longclaw and her people were the sworn enemy of my tribe, the echidna! *his fist started sparking again* We fought and died at their hands, and now you will die by mine.
*Hearing that, I snapped. I ran up to him, jumped, & kicked him in the side. He dropped my brother & was sent flying through the fence*
Ayla: Stay away from my brother!
Sonic:*cough* A - Ayla! What are you -
Ayla: Saving you, dumb-dumb! What else?
*Knuckles stood up & glared at me*
Knuckles: You seem to have more skill, young one. Care to test those skills against me?
Ayla: Bring it on!
*I rushed in for a punch, aiming for his face. He dodged, but I swept under his feet, tripping him. He quickly get back up & went for another punch, but I dodged that & kicked him in the stomach, sending him flying back a bit. He used his fist to stop, & rushed in for another attack. Which was multiple punches. I dodged them all & went in for a high kick, hitting him in the chin. He recovered quickly again & rushed in again. I stopped both of his fists & we ended up in a stand still. We pushed against each other until Knuckles' fist started to spark. Then he quickly raised his fist & punched me in the face before I could react. I was sent flying into the bushes*
Sonic: Ayla! *he ran up to me & helped me stand up* You okay?
Ayla: Y - Yeah. This guy's really strong.
Knuckles: The younger one had more training that you, hedgehog. But it won't be enough to save either of you.
*Suddenly, a police car came crashing through the fence & hit Knuckles, sending him flying into the garden shed. A young twin-tailed fox with blue eyes poked his head out of window*
Tails: Come on! Get in! I'm on your side!
Sonic: I'm sorry, who are you?
*Knuckles groaned*
Ayla: Doesn't matter! Let's go!
Sonic: Yeah!
*I pushed my brother into the car. Just then, Robotnik jumped on to the hood of the car, making us scream*
Sonic: Get us outta here! Go, go, go, go, go!
*The fox started driving the car, with Robotnik still on the hood. He had his mouth on the windshield*
Ayla: Ewww!
Sonic: Aahhh! He's gone rabid!
Tails: Aahhh! He's gone rabid! *he swerved the car to the right* See ya!
*Robotnik flew off*
Sonic: Make sure to get your shots, Eggman!
Ayla: And some mouthwash!
*The fox started driving away from the house, a bit wildly*
Sonic: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!
*He & I looked back & saw Knuckles was catching up to us, almost as fast as my brother*
Tails: Wow. Okay, let me just say, it is an honor to finally meet you, Sonic and Ayla. Is it okay if I call you Sonic and Ayla? My name is Miles Prower, but everyone calls me Tails. You're probably wondering why.
Ayla: Because of the extra tail, right?
Tails: That's right! I should've known you'd get that.
Sonic: Cool. Also, what is going on?! Robotnik's back? And who is Clifford the Big Red Rage Monster!
Tails: Oh, that's Knuckles. The last of the echidnas, and the most dangerous warrior in the galaxy. He's obsessed with finding the Master Emerald.
Ayla: The Master Emerald? I thought that was just a bedtime story.
Tails: Well, he believes it's real, and he must think you two are the key to finding it
*Sonic & I looked ahead & saw a red light at an intersection*
Ayla: Look out! Red light!
Sonic: Give me the wheel!
*He took the wheel & started driving*
Tails: Hey! What are you -
Sonic: Move your foot! *he drove the car to avoid traffic & barley missing a water delivery truck* I think we lost him.
*Suddenly, Knuckles came crashing through the truck & jumped on to the roof of the car. He punched it*
Ayla: We didn't lose him!
*Then he pulled the passenger side door off*
Sonic: We definitely did not lose him!
*We made it to a sharp turn that was next to a cliff & Tails almost fell out, but I grabbed his hand & held on tight*
Tails: Great save!
Ayla: Thanks!
Tails: I got an idea! Do you trust me?
Sonic: Of course not! I literally just met you!
Ayla: Sonic! We don't have a choice right now!
Tails: Just let me -
*He took back the wheel & steered towards the cliff*
Sonic: What are you doing!?
*Tails drove the car off the cliff, grabbed both of our hands, & pulled us out of the car, with his tails spinning like helicopter blades. Knuckles tried to reach for us , but missed & jumped, clinging to the side of the cliff with his knuckles. The police car exploded on the ground below. Sonic was screaming while we in the air*
Ayla: Uh . . . Sonic. You can stop screaming now.
*He opened his eyes & saw that we were flying. He looked up at Tails*
Sonic: We're flying. Uh, did your butt just turn into a helicopter?
Tails:*laughing* A butt-copter! Only Sonic the Hedgehog can come up with something like that.
*We flew off towards town*
(Third-Person POV)
*Meanwhile, Knuckles was climbing up the cliff wall, until a swarm of drones surrounded him. Dr. Robotnik was at the top of the cliff, wearing a red jacket. Behind him was a giant white pod*
Dr. Robotnik: So, my . . . massively metacarpaled friend. You mentioned- *he let out a howl* Uuuuuuuuuuuuuultimate power . . . back at the house?
Knuckles: The Master Emerald? It does not concern you! I got you off that planet and you brought me to the hedgehogs. We have no more use for each other!
Dr. Robotnik: Well, I hate to be a contrarian but, I think we might.
*The drones got closer to Knuckles*
Knuckles: You think these machines are a match for me? I will shatter them like the bones from a fallen - *then he looked down & realized something* Oh. They're stairs.
*He used them like stairs & walked to the top of the cliff*
Dr. Robotnik: You see... Earth, is my turf, G. If ya don't know how to floss, you'll be lost without me.
Knuckles: I understand nothing of what you just said.
Dr. Robotnik: I help you retrieve the Emerald, and you use it to destroy the HEDGEHOOOOOOOOOOGS!
Knuckles: You're suggesting an alliance?
Dr. Robotnik: Around here, we simply, grip each others hands tightly *he held out his hand & Knuckles nearly crushed it* You truculent space bumpkin! You crushed my favorite hand!
Knuckles: Really? My hand is uninjured. But I am now convinced of your commitment.
Dr. Robotnik: Oh goodie. *he relocated the bones in his hand* Ayyyyy . . . I'm delighted . . . To be . . . On the same . . . Team. *he pushed a few buttons on his glove & his EggPod came out of the pod* Road trip! I'll let you stick your nose out the window.
