Mountain Chase

*The next morning, Sonic & I held on to Tails as we flew over the mountains to our destination*

Sonic: Hoo-hoo! Today's forecast calls for clear, sunny skies and a one-hundred percent chance of adventure!

Ayla: Which way now?

Tails: I pinpointed the coordinates. It's right up ahead.

*We soon saw the tallest of all the mountains in the distance*

Sonic: Wow . . . *we flew up to the top of the mountain & found a cave. we started to go inside* Hey, guys. Wait up. *when we reached the end of the cave, we found a door in the shape of an owl* Okay, we got a giant owl door. Seems encouraging.

*We walked up to the doors, made our way in through a crack in the wall & then made our way inside. There were lots of hieroglyphs on the walls*

Tails: Whoa. Ohh, check this out.

Ayla: Can you translate this?

Tails: Uh, yeah. *he used his Miles Electric to translate the hieroglyphs* Ages ago, a fearsome group of warriors, known as the echidnas, forged the seven Chaos Emeralds into the most unstoppable weapon ever created.

Sonic & Ayla: The Master Emerald.

Tails: With it, a single warrior could defeat entire armies. Believing no one should have such power, an order of heroes recovered the Emerald and swore to protect it from evil. Sounds like the owls and the echidnas have been fighting each other for centuries.

Sonic: Like Vin Diesel and The Rock. *Tails & I started to walk ahead* Whoa, wait for me! *we walked into a big room, with a giant statue of an owl in the middle. lots of smaller owl statues were above it* Okay, giant owl door, giant owl. Makes sense.

*Sonic & I walked up to the statue. We noticed some symbols at the base of the statue*

Ayla: Wait a minute . . . I know these symbols. Sonic, the map!

*He pulled out the map & compared the ones on it to the ones on the statue*

Sonic: Here we go. *he flipped the stones until the symbols matched the ones on the map. just then, the symbols started to glow green & then create an image of the Master Emerald. then the statue's eyes started to glow & the wings began to open* Well, that did something.

Ayla: Yeah.

*We stepped back as the wings opened wide & a bright light appeared from it's chest. The light hit us & an orb came out, landing in Sonic's hands. Then it floated up in the air & started to spin*

Sonic: Whoa. The compass!

Tails: This will lead us to the Emerald!

Ayla: This puts us one step ahead of Robotnik and Knuckles.

*Apparently I spoke too soon. Sonic took the compass, put it in the pouch, & then turned to Tails. We both noticed a glow red dot on his forehead*

Sonic: Hey, you got a little something on your . . . *then, his whole face was covered with red dots* Oh, no.

*I looked up & my eyes went wide*

Ayla: Tails, get back!

*Sonic & I got in front of him & looked up. An army of drones was floating above us*

Sonic: Run!

*We started to run towards the exit, but one of the drones sent a laser beam that destroyed it, causing it to collapse. Then Robotnik came in, flying his EggPod, with Knuckles hanging on*

Dr. Robotnik: Oh-de-lay-hee, Oh-de-lay-hee, Oh-de-lay-hee-hooo!

Tails: Ooh, that guy again?

Dr. Robotnik: Heads up, my little stalagmites. Someone call an Uber? Hey, thanks for doing all the hard stuff.

*Knuckles jumped down & landed in front of us*

Knuckles: But we'll take it from here.

Sonic: Okay, we really gotta talk about your new look. It's like Professor X meets the Monopoly man. And what kind of genius shows up to Siberia in a convertible?

Ayla: Somebody better call the fashion police.

Sonic: And what kind of genius shows up to Siberia in a convertible?

Dr. Robotnik: The kind of genius that can turn up the heat . . . With a flick of a switch. *he pressed a button & it launched a missile from the EggPod. but Sonic caught it & threw it back. Knuckles dodged & it hit the base of the statue, causing the whole cave to shake. parts of it started to crumble, almost hitting Knuckles* Good one! I'm sure that wasn't important.

*Suddenly, the statue collapsed, hitting the cave wall & creating a hole*

Sonic: Guys, that's our exit. Come on.

Ayla: Right behind you!

*We all up the statue, avoiding & smashing Drones on the way. Sonic & I then each grabbed a long piece of Drone. We stopping at the top of the statue & saw that it was hanging over a cliff with a long drop*

Sonic: Uh-huh. Tails, let's split up. You go high, we go low.

Ayla: Sounds like a plan.

Tails: Right.

*He flew away. Sonic stretched his body*

Sonic: Quick little stretch and here we go.

Ayla: Yee-haw!

*We both jumped off the statue & used the pieces we had grabbed as snowboards as we went down the mountain. Drones were right behind us*

Sonic: Oh, so you want to play?

*I quickly got out my screwdriver. Suddenly, the Drones changed into wasps & shot lasers at us, but we dodged them all*

Ayla: That's new!

*The Drones stayed behind us as we slid down the mountain. Any that got close to me, I quickly took apart with my screwdriver. Tails was overhead*

Tails: Sonic! Ayla!

*He tried to come & help us, but one of the Drones & Robotnik started chasing him*

Ayla: Tails!

*Sonic then picked up multiple snowballs*

Sonic: Snowball fight!

*He threw the balls at the Drones like a machine gun, hitting them all & destroying them*

Ayla: Nice one, bro!

Sonic: Eh, it was nothing. Ha ha ha! It's too easy. Come on, challenge me! *suddenly, as we went off a jump, an army of Drones was in front of us. they fired lasers & missiles at us. but we managed to dodge them all. everything seemed to be going in slow motion as we did* We are talking style and pizzazz!

Ayla: Yeah! 10 points!

*Sonic then jumped on one Drone & used it to destroy the other Drones. After he jumped off, I took it apart with my screwdriver. Then we jumped back on our make-shift snowboards*

Sonic: Yeah! We make this look good!

*He & I high-fived*

Ayla: Aw, yeah!

*Suddenly, Knuckles game out of the explosion, sliding after us on his own make-shift snowboard*

Sonic: Oh, great. The Winter Soldier. *Knuckles slide towards us & punched Sonic in the face. then he went for me, but I dodged & he went flying into some trees* For a guy named Knuckles, you are really bad at punching.

*He quickly caught up with us again*

Knuckles: Surrender the compass! You are no match for me. I've been training for this my entire life.

Sonic: And Ayla is the only one with any training, and yet here I am ahead of you! That's gotta be embarrassing!

*We jumped off a big rock & Knuckles punched right through it. I saw his eyes glow red. Then we fell off our boards & slid towards a cliff. I managed to stop inches away from the edge, but Sonic was hanging off of it. I grabbed his hand, but the pouch tore open & the Rings spilled down the cliff*

Ayla: Our Rings!

*Suddenly, Knuckles appeared behind us. I helped my brother back up the cliff*

Sonic: Has anyone ever told you you've got serious anger issues?

Ayla: Sonic! Stop antagonizing him!

Knuckles: You mock me with your weak jokes, but you know nothing about me, hedgehogs.

Sonic: Well, I know you Echidnas have a habit of showing up uninvited and ruining our lives.

Ayla: Sonic!

Knuckles: Ruining your lives? Another bad joke. I lost everything because of you. My tribe was on the verge of its greatest victory. The last of the owl warriors had been located. Soon Longclaw's Emerald secrets would be ours. But my Father stopped me from joining the fight. He said my moment to honor our tribe would come, but it was not this moment. Those were the last words he spoke to me. I never saw him again.

*I was shocked to hear that. Then I remembered the last time we saw Longclaw. The Echidna warriors attacked us. Then we saw her on the other side of the Ring, preparing to fight the the Echidnas as they charged at her*

(Flashback - 10 years ago)

Longclaw: Goodbye, Sonic, Ayla.

Little Sonic & Ayla: No! Longclaw!

(Present Time)

Ayla: We all lost everything that day . . .

*Knuckles started to look sympathetic. Suddenly, an electric rope wrapped around, shocking him. Tails then flew down*

Tails: Sonic, Ayla! Are you okay?

Knuckles: Deceivers!

Sonic: No, it wasn't a trick!

Ayla: We weren't trying to trick you, I swear!

*Knuckles got free from the ropes*

Sonic: Tails, take the compass and get out of here!

*He threw the compass as Tails, but Robotnik grabbed it & flew away*

Dr. Robotnik: Later, haters!

*He launched two missiles & they hit Tails, hurting him & making him fall to the ground*

Sonic & Ayla: Tails!

*We zoomed towards him & Knuckles got on Robotnik's EggPod*

Sonic: Tails, come on. Wake up.

Ayla: Open your eyes!

Knuckles: They chose helping the fox over pursuing the compass.

Dr. Robotnik: Of course they did. New friend, same pathetic weakness.

*Knuckles gave him a look. Suddenly, as we glared up at them, everything started to shake. Then a huge wave of snow started coming down the mountain*

Sonic: Oh, no. No, no, no. Okay, we're in real trouble here. Come on, Tails. I need you to fly us out of here. Time to wake up.

Dr. Robotnik: See ya, kids. Enjoy the fresh powder!

Ayla: Sonic! We gotta run! Now!

*He & Knuckles flew away. Sonic picked up me & Tails & got back on his board. We started to slid away with the avalanche right behind us*
