Lithuania stayed an hour sitting on the bed waiting for Poland but he never came out. He was certain Poland wasn't getting himself dressed; he could only imagine what Poland had locked himself up for. Did he say the wrong words? Lithuania got off the bed and went to stand in front of the bathroom door. Lithuania heard nothing when he put his ear against the door, it was completely quiet.
"Im sorry if I said something to upset you… You get some rest and I will come by later to see how you are doing." Lithuania said to Poland from behind the door.
Odd as the thought was, it wouldn't surprise Lithuania if Poland had fallen asleep in there since Poland couldn't have had a good rest earlier because of the nightmare. His energy was most likely drained out of him too since he had cried so much and for having talked about his traumatic memories; Poland may have locked himself up to feel safe and to be at peace from everything. Lithuania hoped Poland knew he wouldn't be alone for long in case he didn't hear what Lithuania had told him.
Lithuania went from Polands house with a heavy heart. Was it foolish of him to leave Poland alone when he was like this? What if another nightmare haunted him? Lithuania didn't know what he could do to help. He was a country himself, and every country had been through hardship involving wars, but this was different somehow. Russia invaded Lithuania in the past but he wasn't alone, Latvia and Estonia were with him. Despite the scars he got from Russia, Latvia and Estonia were there to patch him up but Poland had no one there for him through anything. Lithuania would be there for Poland now but would that be good enough?
"Oh, excuse me!"
Lithuania bumped into someone again. It made him think about the Polish man but a woman's voice apologized. He sighed with relief.
"No, no, its my fault. I was lost in my thoughts and didn't focus" Lithuania assured the woman.
She smiled and gave Lithuania a nod of gratitude. The woman, who was probably in her early twenties, looked around with an uncertain look.
"Pardon for asking but are you lost?" Lithuania asked gently.
She nodded.
"Yes, I cant find the hospital. Do you know where it is?"
Lithuania looked at the woman carefully once he heard her reply.
"Are you hurt? Do you need an ambulance?" Lithuania asked worriedly.
She shook her head and smiled again.
"No, no, Im fine! I need to get to the hospital to see my grandfather, something has happened to him"
Lithuania was relieved to hear she was fine but he could see she was stressed and worried behind her calm façade.
"I know the way to the hospital"
Lithuania extended his arm towards the woman.
"Please, let me escort you"
The woman took hold of Lithuanias arm.
"Thank you very much, how kind of you!" She gleamed with joy.
A spark of happiness entered Lithuanias heart. The troubled thoughts and feelings of not being able to do anything for Poland made him feel useless but being able to help this woman gave a boost for his confidence. With this newfound use for his assistance, Lithuania could continue to think of what to do for Poland.
The ultimate cure would probably be forgiveness from his people but almost all of the survivors who were there during the holocaust have passed away of old age now. And Lithuania couldn't bring anyone back to life! Even if he, or anyone else, could bring people back to life it wouldn't guarantee the past prisoners had let go of their unreasonable blame on Poland. The survivors, or some of them, might have let go of their bitterness after they were liberated. It was too hard to believe that absolutely everybody hated their country back then, what if Poland was unfortunate enough to have ended up with the exact prisoners who blamed him.
Lithuania felt anger build up inside of him thinking about it. If humans knew anything about how it was to be a country, they would never have been like this ever again. The prisoners should have yearned forgiveness from Poland!
"Here it is! Thank you once again, I can go see my grandfather!"
Lithuania snapped out of his thoughts. They arrived at the hospital, luckily Lithuanias absent concentration didn't lead them astray. The young woman dragged Lithuania along through the entrance. Once they were inside the young woman looked around with worry grazing her features.
"Where could he be?"
Lithuania smiled at her reassuringly.
"Lets ask the reception, Im sure your grandfather is being taken care of"
The young woman put up a brave face.
"Yes, hopefully he is. Hold on a second, I will be right back"
She let go of Lithuanias arm and went off, leaving him back to his thoughts.
A clock on the wall showed the time 3.15 pm, less than an hour ago Lithuania left Polands house. If Poland fell asleep in the bathroom maybe he had woken up unless he was at ease in a peaceful slumber. Hopefully after everything Poland had told Lithuania it helped him let out enough to ease his heart and give him one good dream at least. Lithuania didn't know what Poland would do if or when he woke up, he had to leave and see to Poland soon.
The young woman came back to Lithuania.
"My grandfather has been assigned a room and he is okay! Come with me, I want you to meet him"
She took hold of his hand and led him towards the room her grandfather had gotten. Lithuania felt honoured for the way she had treated him and he found it harder to tell her he had to leave. How long could this meeting last? Maybe her grandfather was of the talkative type, old people had the tendency to talk much about everything such as the times from when they were young or how the weather was outside. No, Lithuania decided to leave as politely as possible after meeting her grandfather.
After a short walk the two stood in front of a door and the young woman gently knocked on the door.
"Dziadek? Are you in here? Its me"
Rustling sounds were heard from behind the door.
"Agnieszka? Is that you? Come in!"
The voice sounded familiar to Lithuania but he didn't know where he had heard it before. The young woman, whose name was Agnieszka apparently, opened the door and led herself and Lithuania in to the room. Once they were inside Agnieszka went over to hug her grandfather who sat on a bed.
"Im so happy to see you, dziadek! Thank goodness!"
Her grandfather hugged her back and let out a soft laugh.
"It takes more than that to get rid of me, my dear girl! I see you have brought someone with you"
"Oh, yes! This guy here helped me find the way to the hospital; without him I wouldn't have been here"
Lithuania stood frozen in his place. This is where he had heard the voice, Agnieszkas grandfather was the old man he and Poland met on their way to the swimming hall!
