Good Morning, Darlings, and welcome to Eventid!
This story is dedicated to Pamela. Happy Birthday, my dear friend.
Thank you to both Pamela and Mel for their work on this story.
See below for posting schedule.
Prologue
Once upon a time, the world was swathed in shadows.
Then, from the west came a ship of starlight, carrying three beings who brought with them the sun, the moon, and all the stars.
These beings called themselves the Veda, and together they tamed the feral magic in the land, brought order to the seasons, and divided the world to make space for their new creations. The world thus was split and shared evenly amongst humans and fae; each who were granted their own different but equally important powers. The fae, born of magic, felt an innate connection to it and wielded it on an elemental level. The humans, who had been gifted magic, learned to connect with it through a spiritual level, and thus seers and prophets were born.
For an age, the world lived in harmony, the two races finding peace as the land was settled into five kingdoms.
But magic is a force of the gods, and mortals are not built to contain such power. Fearing the consequences of untamed magic destroying an all-too-mortal host, one of the Veda wove a spell in secret. Her enchantment worked to cleave magic in half in every living being. Those wishing to be made whole must now seek out their sultra, their magical other half, and live a life bound together. Only this, she concluded, would force balance back into the world.
But magic had formed the souls of every being, and with only half a soul, a shadow began to grow in the minds of the fae and humans alike.
Fear drove the species to war, turning them on each other until the five kingdoms were steeped in blood and betrayal.
In the wake of the carnage, the fae, who had been gifted to them longevity from the land itself, rose to rule, and over time, humans began to forget all that they once knew. With their magic weakened, and fewer and fewer finding their other half, the humans were left diminished and vulnerable until very few humans remembered they ever held any sort of power at all.
This was the beginning of the decimation of magic.
At the moment, I am heading back into my school year working no less than three jobs, so I'm a bit slammed and posting will start out at every two weeks, similar to my other wips at the moment. But as soon as I get my feet under me, I'll switch back to a weekly schedule again. Regardless of how often, this story will post on Fridays.
Thank you all for joining me here! I cannot wait to take this journey with you!
