Buffy was gone by the time Eris had woken up, most likely trying not to continue the conversation from last night. She understood but it didn't make her any happier about it, she managed to get her cousin to open up a little about everything last night, but she could tell Buffy did not want to be the one that needed saving. Eris hoped that with time she was able to show Buffy that she could let down her guard a little, and just be a Summers girl, no slayer, even for just a little bit.
She wished she could go look for her cousin but her annoying roommate had told her they both had a meeting with the college admin to speak about the room situation. Either she was getting kicked out or the admin wanted to resolve their issues, and that was not something she was allowed to skip.
She had hastily headed to the head office to hopefully deal with this issue as quickly as possible then go look for her cousin. But from the smug look on her roommates face as she walked into a small office told her that might not be happening.
"Miss Vanzetti, I presume?" an Elderly man said from the head of the small office table. He looked around 70 or 80, well-kept grey mustache and hair and a nicely steamed black suit. To his left was Alana and a younger man with a scowl pointed at her, Eris guessed he was Alana's father.
"I am" she slid into the chair across from the other two, ready to deal with what she guessed was a scolding and other not so fun things.
"I am the Dean Pascott, and I've had multiple complaints given to me by your roommate, Alana" he seemed irritated with this entire ordeal, "I usually would not deal with this but Mr Roscue, her father, has been insistent on me dealing with this personally."
The Dean had sent a displeased look at Mr Roscue but the man seemed unphased, "I thought my daughter was having a good time at college and with her studies, I did not like hearing she was dealing with a horrible roommate and I thought you were the best to deal with this."
Eris glared in irritation as she replied, "I'm sorry Mr Roscue but your daughter decided to be instantly hostile the moment I walked into the dorm," she was not going to back down, "I'm guessing she did not tell you that the very first thing she said to me when we met was calling me Barbie as an insult? And has been extremely rude to me ever since?"
Mr Roscue shot a quick look of anger at his daughter that made her sheepish before looking back to Eris, "be that as it may, you have been equally rude to her as well. I will not stand for this; it has impacted my daughters learning. This girl comes in late, makes so much noise every night, last night she had another person come into the room without asking!"
"That was my cousin, and she had been injured, I wasn't going to turn her away when she had cuts and bruises that needed cleaning!" Eris shot back, leaving out the part where Buffy was attacked. She didn't need to get pressured in to making a report about it.
"Enough! Both of you!" the Dean snapped, "Mr Roscue you should not be yelling at a student!" the father looked away, realising he was arguing with someone his daughters age, "this is clearly an issue that isn't going to be resolved so easily when so much hostility is being shown" the man let out a sigh and opened up a thin folder which contained dorm transfer forms already filled out, "I have made the decision to move Miss Roscue out of the dorm and into another, one not in the same building as Miss Vanzetti" Eris silently cheered, she wanted the same thing as Alana, to get away from each other, "I will find a replacement roommate for you if I can Miss Vanzetti but if not you will be one of the lucky students that get to have the dorm to yourself."
"Thank you, Dean Pascott, I'll happily welcome anyone you send in" Eris said politely, though she was internally hoping she would get the room to herself.
"Of course, Miss Vanzetti, as for you Miss Roscue, you will be moved into a dorm with another roommate that recently had a freshmen dropout."
Alana looked angry, "why can't I have my own room like Eris!" she snapped.
"Lower your tone Miss Roscue, I am doing this as you were the one who requested to move, despite Miss Vanzetti having issues she chose not to report you like you have done to her." The Dean was not changing his mind, even with both Roscue's glaring at him. "If this is an isolated incident then you will have no issue with another roommate. If it does happen again then perhaps it is you that is the issue and not Miss Vanzetti."
Eris was imagining a marching parade in her head at how this situation played out, Alana was hoping to move and be put into a solo room, but it was Eris who got that treatment instead. "Now I will hear no more of this, the administration will be told to ignore all further complaints about this entire issue, be grateful you are getting moved at all. Good day to you all" The Dean stood and walked out, followed by Mr Roscue who hoped to tell him to change his decision.
Eris and Alan remained in the room, one looked pissed and the other smug, "looks like your complaints didn't help you at all" Eris stood and dusted off her clothes, "but it sure helped me."
"You're such a ditsy bitch" Alana said, also standing up, "how is it you have everything so easily handed to you?"
"Because Karma loves me, but she's also a bitch, hence why you got the short end of the draw" she sighed dramatically and went to leave the room before something stopped her, "oh and before I go, I threw out your coffee grinds, I've been putting laxatives in it the entire time. Which you now can't prove. Chow!"
Eris cackled as she heard Alana screech in anger but didn't move from the room, the Black-haired woman was right, there was no way to prove it, but it made sense as to why Alana had to go so badly every morning after coffee.
No matter where she looked in the campus, she could not find her cousin. Not in her dorm, or the library, not even Willow and Oz had seen her all day. She ended up calling home and Joyce told her Buffy had come over but ended up leaving late to go to The Bronze. Happy to have a location, she thanked her aunt and hurried to the club, wanting to make sure her cousin was feeling better today.
She had wondered in and was glad it wasn't so full and busy tonight like it usually was; the music was a low and made it easier to hear everyone talking. "I think…I say thank you" she heard her cousin speak as she walked near a group of couches.
"And nothing says thank you like dollars in the waistband." A man said in response, she looked over to see Buffy smiling at an unfamiliar man, "Ok. What do we do first?" he asked Buffy.
"Hopefully give her cousin an answer on where she's been all day" Eris chimed in as she walked up to them both. Buffy turned to look at her sheepishly whilst the man looked at her with wide but confused eyes. She ignored his eyes trying hard not to look at her cleavage she had on display, choosing instead to give an unimpressed look at her cousin.
"Sorry Eris, I just felt like being alone today" Buffy said apologetically, "but I got to see my friend whose been on holiday so I'm feeling better."
The man waved, an awkward look on his face, "hi, the holiday friend is Xander…which is me"
She smiled back, an eyebrow raised in humour at his jumbled words, "a pleasure to finally meet you Xander, I'm Eris, Buffy's cousin" she made sure to put on a flirtatious tone, just to make him flounder. She wasn't interested in him, but she did like when men got flustered.
"Buffy has a cousin that looks like you?" that earned him a look from both women. "I mean you know, black hair, red eyes, hot- I mean nice looking, but you know, are you wearing contacts, how are your eyes like? They're cool but never seen eyes like that before" he said hastily, trying to skip over the hot comment.
Buffy decided to save her dorky friend and stepped in, "no contacts, doctors say it's a rare mutation."
"Right, that's fair" he took one more look at the attractive women that was giving him a flirty smirk that he thought was really hot and was making it harder not to blush like a schoolgirl. "We were about to do something, weren't we?"
Buffy chuckled and nudged her cousin, "ok Eris, you can stop giving him the flirty look, I don't need a melted friend" Eris laughed and changed her expression to a friendlier, innocent one. "And we were about to do something, we're going to find out who the vampires that attacked me were. You want to help?"
Eris nodded eagerly, "a chance to kill the vamps that hurt you, oh yes, count me in" she followed Buffy and Xander out of The Bronze, not noticing a pair of eyes belonging to a bleached blond vampire intently watching her from a distance.
They trio had broken in to the Administration office to do some research on their computers. Luckily the college was cheap and didn't have any cameras near the area.
Each of them had started to look thorough various things to find out info, Buffy had gone onto the computer at the front of the office, whilst Eris and Xander had looked through everything behind her in the tables and draws. "Kids disappearing every year" Buffy commented absently as she scrolled through all the reports "not too many, just enough so that everyone thinks they up and left."
Xander looked up from a pile of papers he had been looking through, "I can't believe the vampires took your stuff. Murder I expect, but petty larceny seems so…petty."
Eris nodded as she read a folder about the average freshmen drop out rate, "If it's a group of vampires they probably steal everything to add things to their nest, pettiness seems right up their alley."
"They have to be keeping it somewhere, on campus or at least nearby" Buffy replied as she went to a new report from 2 years ago.
Xander took a moment to read through some of the lines before something caught his eye, "Hey, how far back do the disappearances go?" he asked Buffy who started going further back in the reports.
"Uhh, they weren't too common before '82" The Slayers response seemed to match up with something Xander found.
"Magic number, check this out" he grabbed some papers and motioned Eris and Buffy over.
Buffy grabbed one of the newspaper and began reading the headline, "Psi Theta loses its charter. Building to be closed for renovation."
"1982. Look at this, the former Psi Theta fraternity house lies dormant whilst zoning issues drag on before the city council. We have a winner."
"You think the vamps were causing the problems?" Eris asked as she looked at the image of the run down fraternity.
"Looks pretty cherry" Buffy said in a more serious tone, though a hint of nervousness was there.
"You both up for a little reconnaissance?"
Buffy looked confused by Xanders question, "you mean where we all sculpt and pain and stuff?"
"No. That was the Renaissance."
"Oh...I've had a really long week."
"And a hard hit to the head it seems" Eris shot back as she pat Buffy's head softly.
The Slayer swatted her cousin's hand away, "let's go look at the house."
The fraternity house was incredibly warn down and covered in graffiti, along the edge of the doors were various keep out signs that looked both new and old. The trio had worked their way to the top of the house to look through a window in the hopes of seeing the vampires.
They heard maniacal laughter as they brushed away some dead foliage from the gap they looked into. Below were the group of vampires that attacked Buffy. "Score" Buffy said softly as Xander and Eris crouched behind her, she was leaning on the window looking in as the vampires were using her clothing to make fun of her "oh. That's my skirt. You're never gonna fit in it with those hips" she looked to the other two "we have to kill them."
Xander looked nervously at the Slayer "we need weapons."
"I don't see my weapons trunk down there, it was right by my bed" Buffy looked around and saw them playing with her plush, "Mr. Gordo?"
"How dare they," Eris commented in an offended voice.
"Go to my room, if its not there, try Willow's, I'll keep and eye…my diary?"
Xander looked to Eris and motioned to leave, "we'll hurry" not wanting Buffy to start fighting unarmed, the two of them hurried off to grab any weapons they could before something happened.
Upon arriving at Buffy's dorm, they found Willow, Oz and Buffy's roommate inside with worried looks as they looked over a letter. "it's a prank!" Xander shouted as he walked inside.
Willow looked to the door excitedly, "Xander!"
With big outstretched arms he came over and gave all of them hugs, "how are my guys!?" he said as he hugged the random roommate "I don't know you, do it?"
"No."
"This is very intrusive, isn't it?" he had yet to let go.
"Little bit" he quickly pulled away from the roommate.
"Xander."
"Kathy" so that was her name, Eris never really cared to remember it.
Eris decided to join the group so that the conversation steered back to the important topic, "changing subject, Xander, the prank?"
"Prank?" he shot back in confusion before he remembered why he said it in the first place, "oh, the room, well some friends of Buffy's played a funny joke and took her stuff, and now she wants us to help get it back from her friends who sleep all day and have no tans."
It didn't take long for Willow to realise Xander was talking about vampires, "oh, those friends."
"Funny guys," Oz said, also realising the problem.
Xander, not wanting to make Buffy wait anymore, checked to see if the weapons chest was in the room, which it sadly was not "they took the chest, well lets go. Let's go to our friend. It was nice meeting you, Kathy" everyone hurried out of the room to get some weapons, leaving Kathy by herself, mainly confused.
By the time they arrived at the fraternity house, Buffy was already in the fight with the vampires. Without thinking, Willow quickly fired a crossbow bold, turning a runaway vampire to dust as Xander and Oz attacked another vampire with a stake and cross. Eris had grabbed the larger sized female vampire and started a fight with her before she could run away. Using the vampires uncoordinated attacks to her advantage, Eris kicked her into the wall and quickly followed up with a stake to the heart right as Buffy punched the leader into a pile of clothes.
"Hey Buff, need a hand?" Oz asked as they all walked up to the Slayer, who was now looking more confident than she had looked in days.
With a twirl of the stake in her hand, Buffy simply said, "No thanks," and threw the weapon right into the vampire's heart. "I'm good."
As she turned into dust, the Scooby gang began grabbing all of Buffy's things so they could bring it back to the dorm.
What a weird start to college.
