Marine Academy
Part 2
Chapter 15
The blonde sighed at the memo she had just received.
"He might as well suspend me directly." She said between her teeth, stopping herself from insulting her dear and tender man.
"Please report to the medical office of training camp three for a shift from eight to six."
She had operated for hours, saved lives, amputated men, aligned filthy fractures, closed gaping wounds, and now she had to play the soldiers' lapdog?
"You're going to pay for this Sakazuki." The blonde slammed the door behind her, her white coat on her back, her bag on her shoulder.
She crossed Marineford under the summer sun, ignoring the soldiers who were training hard. The young woman was angry, so it was better that no one came to tease her. The blonde finally arrived in front of the medical office of the training camp which was already invaded by soldiers.
She saw, in the distance, Vice Admiral Garp who was yelling orders to the exhausted soldiers and Rear Admiral Kuzan at his side. He gave her a cordial wave from the other end of the field, but she ignored him royally and locked herself in the office.
She collapsed on the chair, put her feet on the desk and took out her current book, paying no attention to the training that was taking place in front of her.
After a few minutes, a soldier who had seen the intern rush into the office came to knock on the door while supporting his arm with his left hand.
The intern did not answer so he allowed himself to enter discreetly.
"Hello, I'm going to need some treatment for my shoulder. I was doing push-ups and I felt like..." He was interrupted by the blonde who appeared in front of his face, looking threatening.
"Either you get away now, or I'll amputate your arm without anesthesia, it's your choice."
A wave of terror seized the soldier who fled at full speed to return to training, under the perplexed gaze of the rear admiral Kuzan.
The blonde got back into the silence of the office to continue her reading. As she began the paragraph on the creation of the civil code by the world government several centuries ago, a second man knocked on the door.
This time, she armed herself with a scalpel that she had stuffed in her bag (it could always be useful...), and opened the door forcefully. As she was about to slide the scalpel under the soldier's throat, she froze when she recognized the man at the door.
"Yo."
Kuzan and his legendary nonchalance.
"What do you want Kuzan? If no one is dying then leave me alone. I'm not in the mood today".
By sticking to the young intern when she arrived at Marineford, Kuzan had had plenty of time to discover all the facets of the blonde's personality. She was a mature, thoughtful and competent woman, but who could explode like a volcano when the world wasn't turning the way she wanted.
"I'm coming to see how you're doing since we got back." The soldier replied simply as he invited himself into the office, sitting on the chair where the blonde had been a few minutes earlier, absently looking at her book.
"I'm doing very well Kuzan, my arm is almost healed. But as you must know, a certain Rear Admiral has arranged for me to be unfit for sea service and the big hospital during my convalescence. That's why I find myself in this hole watching over soldiers, when I should be operating and treating people who really need it."
"Maybe if you didn't sleep with that Rear Admiral, he wouldn't poke his nose into your business..." The man whispered as he searched the blonde's bag for food.
"Mind your own business, Kuzan!" She thundered as she snatched her bag from his hands. He showed no resistance and even let out a small laugh.
"I was really surprised when I learned about your story with Rear Admiral Sakazuki. You two are so... different... You're the beautiful flower trying to grow in the garden of war, while he's... he's him..." The soldier continued slowly.
"If you're so curious about my married life, Kuzan, I can tell you about my favorite sexual positions and the places where I particularly enjoy having sex..." The young woman continued, a defiant look on her face.
Kuzan just threw his hands up in the air.
"No thanks, I'll be fine. I'd rather keep fantasizing about you in complete ignorance." He stood up slowly, tilting his head to avoid touching the ceiling.
"Come eat with us, it'll relax you. We have fried fishes and... arf I don't remember, we'll see..." The soldier finally went out, leaving the door open behind him, like an invitation.
The blonde sighed. She was tense at the moment. Sakazuki had pulled a dirty trick on her back, but on the other hand, she told herself that, if she had the opportunity, she wouldn't hesitate to make him unfit for combat against his will to force him to heal for a few weeks. They were selfish in a way, but always with the goal of protecting the other...
The intern left her her white coat on the edge of the chair. A light white bandage covered part of her right arm. She crossed the training ground that had emptied and joined the large group of soldiers who had formed to eat together.
She saw the rear admiral and the vice admiral on the left. As she approached discreetly, not really knowing how to integrate the group, Kuzan took the lead and delicately grabbed her wrist to invite her to sit next to him. He handed her a still-warm bowl, filled with rice, shrimps and sesame chicken.
"So kid, I hear you did a hell of a job on the island!" The vice admiral exclaimed, his mouth full of rice.
Murphy bowed respectfully, calmed down. "I did my best, Vice Admiral, I still have a lot to learn..."
"Don't be so modest, kid! I know at least ten men here who are only alive because of you and your team!" The high-ranking officer continued with a hearty laugh, stuffing a whole ball of rice into his mouth.
Kuzan looked at her out of the corner of his eye, analyzing her reaction. A veil had appeared in the intern's eyes. The memories of those atrocious days came back to her. Her heart had been oscillating between the desire to never set foot in such hell again, but her brain was screaming at her that this was precisely where she would be most useful. Even more useful than in intensive care or the emergency room of the Grand Hospital of Marineford...
"Sorry about your arm, Murphy..." Kuzan's voice pulled her out of her dark thoughts. "I promise you it won't happen again." His gaze was burning, determined.
