A few years after the current events of PTV:
Junior Professor Vicky Ferrous looked at her paper notebook of her personal Pokédex in frustration. Just earlier that day she had gotten some more battling practice with her new Gastrodon, and the Ace Trainer she battled against had spent a solid five minutes flipping through his paper Pokédex in agony trying to find any source of information on his opponent to no avail before giving up.
He lost handily after trying to use Hydro Pump only for Gastrodon to absorb all the water and power herself up.
And it was so frustrating! Such things shouldn't have to be so hidden! Any trainer should be able to just scan a Pokémon with their 'Dex and look up that information, but the world was currently stuck with books and flashcards.
Looking up at the ceiling of her room, she closed her eyes and prayed exasperatedly: "Arceus, I know you sent me here to be Professor Oak and all, but I'm not him. I don't know how to design a Pokédex, and there's nobody here in this world who can. We're still using flip phones! And fax machines! And dial-up internet that beeps and boops for five minutes before loading! What am I supposed to do?"
Groaning in frustration, she looked down just in time to see her computer screen blip an email notification. The sender was not listed, the subject line was empty, and there wasn't even a message in the email. Just an attachment.
Looking over her shoulder to see if Dan the IT guy was around, she opened it, against her better judgment.
NEW CONTACT ADDED - Motoko Kusanagi [Ghost in the Shell]
Motoko was mid-grinding session on some programming work for Yoko when a strange notification came in on her holo:
"Is this Motoko Kusanagi?"
Scanning the message and sender for daemons, viruses, and scams all checked out, so against her better judgment, she replied.
"Yes, who is this? If this is Arasaka I'm not interested."
"Um, I don't know what Arasaka is but my name is Vicky. I need some help with engineering and building and machines and stuff."
How did she not know what Arasaka is? Did she live under a rock?
"How did you get my number?"
"Arceus gave it to me. Or I guess God did? Always weird that God is a Pokémon..."
Memories of a past life flooded 'Toko and stopped her dead in her work.
"...Pokémon? Like the video game?"
"Yeah, here they're real creatures! I remember the video games too, past life and all."
Oh, Vicky and her were going to be good chooms, that much was for sure.
"Okay, so you need me to design and build a Pokédex for you?" Motoko was currently in her workshop she... acquired... from some Scavs up in Northside.
"Yeah, but I also need to be able to make it here. Y'know the machines to make the machines to make the Pokédex and all."
"I can do that. Fun challenge it sounds like, but I don't work for free."
"I got Prism Scales!"
"I don't think Hiromi wants to work in the jewelry business. Got something else?"
"Um... maybe just some money? I got more than I know what to do with."
"Normally, I'd accept that but Hiromi is my manager and we want to keep this between us, right?"
The line went dead for a while until Vicky had a brainwave.
"What about a Porygon? I can get you a couple Porygon and maybe some Up-Grades! The Dubious Disc isn't a thing yet though. Probably a good thing too..."
Porygon. A living program. An AI construct with full sentience. Able to interact with any computer system.
"Sold."
Papa walked into Vicky's office only to be met with an array of sheet metal, plastic, wires, tools, and WD-40.
"Trouble, what on earth are you doing?"
"Building a new Pokédex!"
"...Just don't tell your mother..."
"Hello, I am Porygon. Pleased to meet you, Motoko."
"Good to meet ya, choom. Want to meet my Tachikoma bot?"
For the record, I love GitC and PTV but neither is really my writing style. I just had an itch of an idea and just put it on paper since it wouldn't leave me alone, so it's not polished in the slightest. Anyway, here's to more PTV and GitC!
