While at lunch Luna filled Ginny in, "I've been receiving gifts and letters lately from a secret admirer. I wouldn't have ever thought that this was the sort of thing that would happen to me. They apparently have decided that they want to meet in person. I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I don't know who it is for sure. They've given away through our letters some things about themself." The redhead smiled, "well that is something what do you know about them?"
Luna smiled, "well for one thing they have great taste. They're smart too. Their taste in books runs to spell creation and runes. They were in Harry and Ron's year at Hogwarts, and that is about all that I know about them." Ginny thought back to who she knew from the year ahead of them. The some of them she scratched off the list for not taking runes, being a general git, or other such reasons. "Well, I have some possible candidates as to who it could be. There's Ernie McMillin, Anthony Goldstein, Terry Boot, Justin Finch-Fletchly. If we open it up to some of the more neutral Slytherins then that would be Blaise Zabini, maybe Theo Nott."
Luna looked up at her friend with alarm in her eyes at the last name. Finally, after taking a calming breath, the blonde said, "you would put Theo in the neutral camp?" Ginny nodded, "he wasn't openly hostile towards those from other houses or muggleborns. His best friend, quite possibly only friend is Blaise Zabini, although he tries to maintain a neutral relationship with Malfoy." Luna raised an eyebrow in surprise, "but his father was a death eater!" The bubbly redhead smiled, "yes, but he seems to be open to treading a different path. Just keep an open mind and I think you might be pleasantly surprised."
Luna smiled and the pair finished their lunch, before Luna returned to her flat. She then proceeded to write her response to the invitation for Valentine's Day.
Valentine,
I would quite enjoy spending the evening getting to know more about you. I admit that you have the advantage of me seeing as you know who I am and seemingly my taste. I hope that I don't disappoint you too badly.
Luna
The remaining days seemed to drift by for Luna going into the Department of Mysteries and studying all about the halls of prophecy, death and time. The petite blond was so busy studying that Valentine's Day caught her unaware. The day of her date ended up with her nerves being even more rattled. Luna had never dared think that it could happen again, no one did. They thought that the price to defeat the dark had been paid.
That was the day she was surprised to come across an inscription about a prophecy that she had hoped not to hear. Having survived one war, she had no taste in becoming involved in another. Yet here in front of her sat a prophecy that spoke too exactly that.
The child of the dark one will live in isolation and pain.
The child of the dark one will bring much pain.
Pursuing the child of the light, to avenge her pain.
The child of the dark one will live in isolation and pain.
Luna shivered as she read that nearly forgetting that she had to go and get ready for her date so that she wasn't still in her work clothes. Luna's black trousers and white blouse were rumpled from hours bent over her table studying her quill stuck over her ear for making notes as needed. Her hands were smeared with ink from writing notes that she had on certain items that she came across whether they were questions, thoughts on interpretation or suggestions for spells to help improve the time turners security or other such things.
So, she was running behind when she arrived home and swiftly began to get shower, using a shaving spell to clear any stubble she may have missed previously. She did a double cleanse and washed her hair. Upon getting out of the shower she cast a drying spell on her hair and swiftly straightened her hair using a styling spell that Lavender had taught her back during their school days.
Luna swiftly changed into her silky black underwear and bra and pulled on the black body contouring dress that Valentine had sent her. The finishing touch was her black pumps that added a good six inches to her height.
As she apparated to the restaurant which was located just down from the Weasley joke shop she took a calming breath. She wasn't sure what to expect since she had never been to this restaurant before. This was typically a place frequented by the swanky, well to do and connected. That was hardly how Luna saw herself.
She was quietly going back over the list Ginny had generated as to who her companion for the evening may be. Part of her was hoping that it would be someone who it would not be too complicated for her to handle a conversation with. After all, what could she say to someone who had connection on the other side of the war.
The place was elegant with small fires of blue flame at the center of each table some for larger parties with wooden chairs made of English oak situated around round stone tables. Others were tables for two and were small and square with seating for two made of the same material. Beautiful napkins of turquois blue adorned each seating at the tables holding the utensils. The walls had pictures of peaceful landscapes that set Luna at peace after her day at work.
She looked around for anyone who appeared to be alone. Then the MaƮtre D approached her, "ah, Miss Lovegood we have been expecting you. Right this way please." He gestured for her to follow him, and she smiled as she went along behind him to the left where the man stopped at a table that sat in front of a window. As he stepped aside to assist her to her seat Luna let out a gasp when she saw who it was on the other side of the table.
