Naruto's Undead Nightmare: Chapter 4
Outside the Ichiraku Ramen Shop: With Naruto, Tenten, Konohamaru and Hana
Kiba descended on Naruto and Naruto slashed at him with his machete; Kiba's claws gripped the machete and the blade sliced into his flesh as he pressed his entire weight against Naruto. Naruto gritted his teeth as Kiba pressed against him and bent his legs trying to keep himself from falling.
Naruto shifted his weight to his right ride and sent a kick with his left leg hitting Kiba in the ribs and sending him flying into a nearby building; Kiba crashed through the glass window and rolled around him broken glass.
The glass cut Kiba's face and one shard even got into his eye, but he stood up like nothing happened and let out a howl; upon doing so the infected Akamaru and the two other ninja dogs charged the group.
Hana seeing this spoke up "SCATTER" Haha shouted and everyone jumped into a different direction.
With Tenten
Tenten rushed down the alley she and her group came from as she remembered the route they took; as she ran one of the larger dogs chased after her. As she ran down the alley Tenten grabbed a trashcan and threw it to the ground blocking the path; Tenten ran a few more yards away and turned around and aimed her crossbow.
The infected canine jumped over the trashcan and Tenten fired at the dog; her bolt flew through the air towards the dog but her aim was slightly off. Instead of piercing through the forehead like she wanted to the bolt entered the dogs mouth and pierced through the back side of it's head.
The bolt missed the spinal cord and the bottom of the brain stem and Tenten cursed as the dog landed; the dog snapped it's jaws breaking the wood bolt shaft in half and shook it's head, shaking the other half.
"Goddamn it" Tenten said as she spun around and began running once more as the dog began to chase her again.
With Konohamaru
Konohamaru ducked down as Akamaru flew over his head and slammed into a telephone pole "Crud, crud, crud" Konohamaru repeated as he continued to run down the street from Ichiraku's. Konohamaru saw what looked like a china shop and ran inside bursting through the glass door and jumping over a stack of boxes.
He was breathing heavily as running from the infected puppy was harder than he realized; just when he thought he was safe he heard a crash as glass flew inside the store and landed on the ground.
Akamaru had broken through the glass door, bits and shards of glass embedded into his body causing a trail of blackened blood to leave a trail behind him; Akamaru sniffed around, using it's nose to try and find a scent.
Konohamaru held his breath as the dog raised it's nose to the air and sniffed; the dog then walked forward down an aisle out of sight but Konohamaru could still hear it's nails tapping the tile floor.
'It didn't smell me?' Konohamaru thought before looking at himself in a glass cup 'wait… is it because I'm so dirty; do these things rely on smell too?'. Konohamaru snuck down an aisle following the tapping and the ragged and garbled growls of the dog; Akamaru was still looking around for Konohamaru but couldn't get a accurate scent.
Upon seeing this Konohamaru quietly grabbed a plate off a nearby shelf and threw it across the room into another stack plates; the crash and the sound of plates breaking made Akamaru bark and run towards the noise.
'Got you now' Konohamaru thought as he snuck towards Akamaru.
With Hana
Hana ducked back from the snapping jaws of the nin-dog she was fighting; the dogs blackened and broken teeth nearly bit her right shoulder. Hana reached up and grabbed the dog around the neck and threw it back; the dogs blackened hit the ground and Hana immediately took out four shuriken.
Hana threw the shuriken towards the dog Hana hit it all four times but none of them were kill shots; two hit the dog in the left shoulder, one in the neck and one in the eye but not deep enough to puncture the brain.
"Oh come on" Hana growled as the dog turned back towards her and charged; Hana took out two of her kunai and got into a defensive stance. The dog first went low and aimed a bite towards her leg; Hana pulled back her leg and sent a slash to the back of the dogs neck.
The kunai sliced into the dogs already decomposing flesh and it's severed muscle and tendons still moved despite being cut; Hana sent a kick to the dogs ribs sending it skidding back a few feet.
The dog recovered quickly and rushed towards Hana jumping up and towards her; Hana was too close to avoid it and was tackled by the dog being sent to the ground. The infected dog aimed a bite at her neck and before it could make contact Hana reached out and stopped it; Hana had one hand around it's throat while the other grabbed it's ear and pulled it's head back.
The snapping jaws was inches from Hana's face and black bile dripped and splattered her as the dog barked and snarled; Hana was straining against the force of the dog as she tried to push it back.
Hana realizing what she had to do gripped the dog tighter with both of her hand and using all the strength she twisted the dogs neck while lifting it up; the dogs neck snapped as it's brain stem and spinal cord was severed. Hana pushed the now dead, undead dog off her and spat on the ground as some of the black bile got into her mouth and on her face.
'Oh god, am I infected now?' Hana thought in a moment of panic as she wiped her face and her mouth.
"GAH SHIT" came a shout and Hana looked over and saw Naruto fighting Kiba.
'Oh hell' Hana thought as she got up and ran over.
With Naruto
"GAH SHIT" Naruto shouted as Kiba slashed at him; Kiba's claws ripped the front of Naruto's jacket but didn't touch his flesh. Naruto sent a slash in return to Kiba, aiming at his neck for a decapitation; Kiba ducked under the blade and lunged towards Naruto but Naruto already raised his foot.
Naruto sent a kick to Kiba's head using the sole of his sandal to hit him in the nose; Naruto felt the cartilage of the nose break and crunch through the rubber sole as Naruto pushed and sent Kiba rolling backwards until he got to all fours.
Kiba's claws grew longer and he howled and was about to charge when Hana came in and sent a stab towards Kiba's head; Kiba hearing her running towards him turned his head at the last moment and Hana's kunai missed it's mark.
Instead of piercing through his temple it instead hit his forehead and glanced off his skull; Kiba took a swipe at Hana with his claws and his claws made contact. Hana's chunin vest stopped the attack from cutting her but the amount of force Kiba put into the blow sent her to the ground.
Kiba stood above head raising his other claw ready to strike her down when his hand suddenly fell off; Naruto used his machete to slice off Kiba's hand and Kiba turned to attack with his other hand Naruto. Naruto however was quicker and slashed at Kiba's other arm, severing it just at the elbow; Kiba snarled and lunged in with his fangs bared and tried to bite Naruto.
Hana raised her leg and kicked Kiba in the knee hard enough to break his leg and send him to the ground; Hana picked up her kunai and lunged towards Kiba and sent a stab. Hana's kunai stabbed him in the eye socket and Kiba groaned; Hana pulled out the kunai and stabbed again into the already punctured eye socket.
She twisted the kunai causing more damage to Kiba's infected brain before pulling it out; Kiba's body was now completely still and Hana dropped the kunai.
"Holy shit" Naruto said breathing hard as he looked at Hana "are…are you ok?"
Hana looked to Naruto and shook her head "no, I'm far from ok" Hana said as she stood up "the dog I was fighting, some of it's bile got into my mouth and on my face; I don't know if I'm infected or not".
Naruto went wide eyed at this and spoke "how… how long does it take to turn?" Naruto said and Hana let out a sigh.
"Anywhere from three to twelve hours" Hana said as her heart began to race "I-I-I don't wanna be one of those things". Hana looked at Naruto with worry etched on her face "promise me if I get a fever you'll put me down" she said and Naruto swallowed hard.
Naruto may have just met Hana but he didn't want to kill her; she seemed like a great person from what he's seen so far.
"You're not gonna turn" Naruto proclaimed as he spun around and began to walk; Hana followed him and spoke.
"How do you know?" Hana said and Naruto without stopping looked over his shoulder and spoke.
"I got a feeling" Naruto said with a grin on his face; for some reason Hana felt a wave of relief wash over her and Naruto spoke again "let go find the others; I'll go for Tenten while you go for Konohamaru".
Hana pushing her fears down nodded "alright then; I think I saw where he ran off to" Hana said; both Naruto and Hana ran off trying to find their other group members.
With Tenten
Tenten slung her crossbow over her shoulder as she ran through the alley with the infected dog right on her heels; Tenten saw at the end of the alley there was a drain pipe on the side of what looked like a small apartment building.
Upon reaching the drain pipe Tenten began to pull herself up and climb up the wall as fast as she could; Tenten was barely eight feet up the pipe when the dog reached her. The dog jumped up towards her and opened it's jaws; the dog's teeth missed her ankle by only a few inches and clamped down on the cuff of her pants.
The weight of the dog threatened to pull herself down and Tenten almost lost her grip but thankfully the fabric tore away and the dog fell back down towards the ground. Tenten regained her grip and continued to climb up as the dog continued to bark and try to claw it self up towards her.
Tenten climbed another six feet and saw on both sides of her there were two narrow balconies with about three feet of space in between and Tenten thought it'd be a good idea to get to one and shoot the dog down below. Tenten decided to go to the one on the right and reached out and grabbed a hold of the ledge with one hand while taking out a kunai and holding it in the other; Tenten leaned over and looked into the balcony and saw there wasn't any infected.
Tenten moved her other hand over and was about to pull herself over the concert railing when an infected in the balcony to her left sprang up and grabbed her from behind; Tenten screamed as she felt herself being pulled backwards. She instinctively let go of the ledge and used one of her hands to push back on the infected's face while sending a stab with her kunai.
The kunai punctured the infected's skull with a 'squelching' sound' killing it instantly; the next thing Tenten knew she and the infected she just killed fell down the drain pipe towards the ground. Both her and the corpse fell about twenty feet towards the ground.
The infected she killed landed on the dog while Tenten hit a plastic garbage can breaking her fall before she hit a pile of garbage bags; while not a fatal fall Tenten had the wind knocked out of her and was on her back on top of her crossbow.
The dog struggled under the weight of the dead infected for a moment and Tenten tried to get up as fast as she could and unsling her crossbow; both rushed to get ready first, the dog shook off the body just as Tenten had her crossbow in her hands.
The dog leapt towards Tenten who was about to take aim when she realized her crossbow was unloaded from her last shot; Tenten got ready to swing the crossbow at the dog, using the wooden butt stock as a club when a blur of orange appeared.
Naruto slashed with his machete hitting the dog in the back of the neck and slicing it's head off; Tenten was wide eyed when she saw this and Naruto looked to her.
"You ok?" Naruto said breathing hard.
Tenten was breathing hard as well and lowered her crossbow "yeah, I am" Tenten said looking at the now dead undead dog "t-thanks".
Naruto gave her a foxy grin and a thumbs up, before he could speak they both heard the sounds of groaning and moaning and looked down the alley; all the noise they've been making had caused a horde of infected to come in investigate. Now the horde spotted them and started moving towards them, however instead of a dead run they were walking fast in almost a jog.
"Oh fuck" Naruto shouted as he reached out and grabbed Tenten's hand "we gotta bail"; Tenten didn't say another word as they both began to run back towards Ichiraku's to try and find Konohamaru and Hana.
With Konohamaru
Akamaru was sniffing around the area where the loud crash happened trying to find a scent of whoever was in there; walking through the piles of broken china Akamaru heard another crash off to his left and spun and looked.
A pile of porcelain plates just exploded making the small infected down begin to bark; Akamaru's infected mind wasn't able to comprehend that this was due to a tea pot being thrown. Konohamaru satisfied with his throw snuck forward just a little bit more until he was just behind a shelf full of plates and cups.
'I always wanted to do this; looks like dreams do come true' Konohamaru using all his strength began to push the wooden shelf over; it didn't tale much as with the shift in weight made it easier.
Akamaru heard clanging behind him and as the infected dog turned around the shelf full of ceramic plates, cups, teapots, dolls and other items crashed down onto the infected dog. The two hundred to so pounds crushed the dog with a splat and upon doing this Konohamaru spun around and ran towards the door at a dead sprint.
'I think it's dead, but I'm not sticking around to find out' Konohamaru thought as he ran; suddenly the door to the shop opened and Hana stood there.
"Oh thank god; are you-" Hana began but Konohamaru didn't stop as he ran by her and grabbed her hand.
"Hurry up, no time for talking" Konohamaru shouted as he ran out the door with Hana in tow; Hana didn't question anything but followed Konohamaru as they ran back towards Ichiraku's. They barely made it down the street when they spotted Naruto and Tenten running towards them with a horde of infected behind them.
"NO, NO, NO; BACK THE OTHER WAY" Naruto shouted as he and Tenten reached them; Hana and Konohamaru spun around and began to run in the opposite direction.
"Where are we going?" Konohamaru shouted as he ran.
"Northern Konoha, towards the Hyuga compound; it has thick walls we can hide behind" Tenten shouted and everyone looked at her "it's also close to the north gate; we can escape from there".
"Well, lead the way and get us off this fucking street" Hana shouted as they ran for their lives.
At Dusk (15 minutes later); Hyuga Compound: With Naruto, Tenten, Hana and Konohamaru
At normal walking speed the trip to the Hyuga compound should've taken an hour, at a light jog at maybe thirty minutes; Naruto, Tenten, Hana and Konohamaru all made the trip in fifteen minutes.
Tenten led the way down a road towards the Hyuga compound, the big wooden gates wide open revealing the clear training field "get through the gates, now" Tenten shouted as the group picked up their pace and continued running forward.
As soon as they entered the gates Naruto and Hana spun around and grabbed one of the heavy wooden doors each and began to push them closed; it took them only a few seconds to close it and Hana saw there was a wooden bar on her door.
Hana grabbed the wooden bar and slammed it down horizontally into a cut groove effectively locking the doors just as the horde of undead slammed against it.
Naruto and everyone else fell to their knees breathing heavily as they were all winded; Naruto spat on the ground and gave a cough before taking off his pack and taking out a bottle of water and taking a sip.
He looked over to Hana who was also sitting on the ground and offered her the bottle; Hana took the bottle and took a big gulp, she coughed a little and handed back the water.
"Thanks" Hana said as she got to her feet; Tenten was reloading her crossbow while Konohamaru was wiping his face with his torn scarf "ok… what now?"
Tenten looked at her and spoke "we take a look around for my friend Neji; then we escape" she said before looking at Naruto "Naruto I'm sorry, but it's almost night; we can't look for your friends and-".
"It's ok, I get it" Naruto said as he looked to the wooden doors as they creaked with the weight of the horde "at this point, I'm sure they're either not here… or dead; it sucks but, I can't risk all your lives". "But I'm sure they made it out of here; there's no way they could die from these things" Naruto said more like he was trying to convince himself rather than the others.
"I'm sorry boss" Konohamaru said as he got to his feet; Naruto waved him off and got back up
"It's fine; lets just find a way out of here" Naruto said and Tenten shouldered her crossbow.
"Alright, follow me; lets take a look around" Tenten said as she pulled out a flashlight; Naruto and Konohamaru pulled out flashlights as well, however Hana didn't have a flashlight or a bag in general.
"You don't have a flashlight?" Naruto asked and Hana shook her head.
"Lost my pack a few days ago; it got ripped off me when I was getting chased" Hana said and Naruto nodded.
"Alright, stay close to me I guess" Naruto said.
Tenten led the group through the compound with Konohamaru rolling behind, Naruto behind him and Hana bringing up the rear of the group; Hana was gripping Naruto's shirt so she could not get lost in the dark and eerie Hyuga compound.
As the group walked through the compound they saw the telltale signs of infected; blood on the floor and walls, knocked over furniture and vases. The group took great steps to avoid the shards of porcelain and glass on the ground to avoid making any extra noise.
Upon reaching the end of the hallway they saw that the hallways split in two directions, left and right; Tenten saw this and spoke "lets go right, I think that's the way to the court-" she whispered until Hana held up a hand.
"Wait" Hana said in a harsh whisper "listen"; everyone stopped talking and they all heard it.
The sound of a girl crying.
"A survivor" Naruto said as he pointed his flashlight down the left hallway "down there"; everyone looked and saw it was a hallway leading to what looked like a multitude of sleeping quarters. "I'm gonna go and take a look" Naruto said before looking at Tenten "you guys stay here and guard the hallways; just in case we have any 'guests' lurking around.
"You can't go alone" Hana said.
"I'll go with him" Konohamaru said "I'm with you boss"; Naruto nodded in appreciation and both he and Konohamaru began to sneak down the left hallway. Tenten looked down the right hallway while Hana looked down the hallway they just came from.
As Naruto and Konohamaru walked down the hallway the crying got louder and the darkness made it even creepier; despite the flashlights they couldn't see much and had to constantly move their heads around.
Upon passing the first few doors Konohamaru patted Naruto on the back making him stop "what's up?" Naruto asked and Konohamaru pointed his flashlight at what he was looking at. Inside a room a young Hyuga girl with long brown hair laid on the ground; her body, face and cloths all looked like she got chopped up by a blender "shit" Naruto said.
"Hanabi" Konohamaru said and Naruto looked at him "she was in my class; she was kinda uptight… but she didn't deserve that".
"No one does" Naruto said as he and Konohamaru moved again; both boys walked down a few more doors until they reached the door where the crying was coming from. Upon doing so Naruto looked at the name on the door and recognized it "Hinata Hyuga?" Naruto said wide eyed.
"You know her boss?" Konohamaru asked.
"Yeah, we were in the academy together" Naruto said with a smile "she's kinda weird but she was nice; now to find out she's alive… this is great". Naruto began to feel hope rise in his chest as he reached out and slowly open the door; grabbing the handle Naruto opened the door and shined his flashlight inside "Hinata? Hinata?" Naruto repeated.
Naruto took a step inside the room and by the small beam of light was able to see the room was virtually undamaged and what you'd expect of a young lady.
"Hinata, it's me, Naruto; you know from the academy" Naruto said as he shined his light to the corner of the room; upon doing so he saw the figure of a young girl crouched in the corner. Naruto recognized her as Hinata, her dark blue hair cut into a 'Hime' style with two long strands on the sides; she was almost naked, only wearing her panties and a short shirt and no shoes.
Hinata had her knees pulled up to her chest with her arms folded on top and was sobbing into her arms; Naruto put his machete up and got down to his knees and began to slowly crawl towards her.
"Hinata, are you ok?" Naruto asked as he crawled closer "listen, we're about to get out of here; lets get out of the village?"; hearing no response he got closer. "Hinata?" Naruto said and at this Hinata stopped crying.
Konohamaru was looking at this and in a split second he saw something that Naruto didn't see that made his blood run cold; Hinata had a bite on her left thigh that was only visible from his angle. Hinata began to slowly bring her head up and Konohamaru spoke up in a rising frightened tone "boss" Konohamaru said.
"Hinata, lets-" Naruto began until he paused only three feet away from Hinata as she revealed her face; her lavender eyes were now blood shot and glowed red like a match head and her mouth was now full of sharpened teeth shown by her snarling face. Hinata unfolded her arms revealing her hands; her fingers had elongated and turned into six inch long spike like appendages.
Hinata let out a loud scream and Naruto instinctively jumped back just as Hinata took a swipe at him; Naruto fell back onto his ass and Konohamaru grabbed Naruto by the back of his collar and with a surprising amount of strength from a little kid pulled Naruto out of the room just as Hinata got to her feet.
Konohamaru closed the door to Hinata room and she began to bang on it; Naruto looked at Konohamaru wide eyed and both boys were breathing heavily.
"Holy shit… thanks Konohamaru" Naruto said as he got back up Konohamaru smiled and spoke.
"No problem-" Konohamaru began until a clawed hand shot through the door just missing Konohmaru's head by mere inches; Konohamaru jumped to the side as both he and Naruto looked on in horror.
Hinata was using her claws to tear through the wooden door like it was made of paper; without saying a word Naruto and Konohamaru spun around and began to run back down the hallway towards Tenten and Hana who were both looking at them wide eyed.
"RUN, RUN, RUN GODDAMN IT" Naruto shouted just as the door burst into pieces and Hinata entered the hall and looked at them; Hinata let out another loud shout and Naruto, Tenten, Konohamaru and Hana all tuned and ran down the hall as the infected Hinata began to chase them in the darkened Hyuga compound.
